核磁気共鳴(NMR)は静磁場中で原子が固有周波数の磁気エネルギーを吸収・放出する現象で、これを利用した地中の石油貯留層を探査する地下資源探査システムの研究開発に取り組んだ。rf-SQUIDに結合したシステムを作製し、地磁気レベルの低磁場を用いてプロトン1^HのNMR信号の計測を行なった。実験の結果、1^Hのピーク信号が確認でき、このときのSN比(信号対雑音比)は7以上の良好な結果を得ることができた。よって、地磁気中の1^H-NMRを計測可能なSQUID地磁気NMRシステムの基礎を構築することができたと考えられる。

The reform of China's state-owned companies: Of the 100 large and medium sized enterprises decided on as models for reform in 1994, 95 companies had their reform implementation plans approved during 1996. Of these, approximately 80% were entirely government owned stock companies, and fewer than 20% were joint stock companies. Loss-making state enterprises are numerous, and they are subsidized by profitable firms. Profits are few, and 20 million, or one out of three workers, are superfluous. The figure for these surplus workers' salary is roughly equivalent to state farms' total profits. Due to the inadequacy of the social security system, the separation of housing, schools, hospitals and such from companies is not progressing, leaving state firms not very solvent and dependent on bank loans, and it will take several years to clear these debts. Ultimately, it is banks that must shoulder the burden of bankrupt firms. It has been decided that Rural Agricultural Cooperatives should be converted to regional banks (funded by farmers and rural people), but with the modernization of agriculture and agricultural processing, the concentration of labor in agricultural industry, and the rapid growth of transportation and construction firms, there is much interest in whether the financial system can adapt and move forward effectively or not.

EMC計測用アンテナの較正法は、ANSI C63.5の水平偏波(HP)による「標準サイト法(SSM)」が世界的に普及しているが、この欠点を改善するとしてCISPRに提案されたのが日本(郵政省通信総合研究所;CRL)の「改良標準サイト法」である。これに、近年(1996)CENELECが「中高アンテナ垂直偏波(VP)法」を提案、ANSIと対立する形になった。これらと、古典的な自由空間型アンテナ較正サイトを低高度で実現する「Uサイト法(HP, VP)」を併せて、理論と実用の見地から利害得失を比較した。その結果、アンテナ較正用サイト(CALTS)としては、金属床面を使用する「標準サイト法(ANSI)」と「改良標準サイト法(CRL)」は原理的に不適性で、自由空間近似の「中高アンテナVP法(CENELEC)」と「Uサイト法」が適合すること。送受信アンテナ間の実効反射係数を0.1(-20dB)以下にすれば、アンテナ係数の較正誤差を1dB以下にできることを示した。

農産物の残留農薬調査における, 市販のイミダクロプリド測定キットの実用性について検討した.6名の作業者による, 同一農産物試料としてトマトを用いたイミダクロプリド添加回収実験では, いずれの作業者においても回収率および繰り返し再現精度は良好であった.また, 数種農産物(トマト, イチゴ, ナス, ピーマン, キュウリ, キャベツ, ダイコン, ニンジン, リンゴ, ナシおよびダイズ)を用いた添加回収試験では, いずれも回収率は良好であった(94.2〜132.0%).以上より, イミダクロプリド測定用キットは農産物の残留農薬のスクリーニングに有効な手段であると言える.

For several years, our research group at Sumitomo has been conducting an extensive search for new biologically active natural products. Some of the isolated natural products could be looked upon as prototype models for synthetic research to develop new agrochemicals. In this paper, the followings are described as examples of our research : (i) The extract of black pepper fruits (Piper nigrum L.) exhibited strong insecticidal activity against several pests. A new amide, N-isobutyl-11-(3, 4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2E, 4E, 10E-2, 4, 10-undeca-trienamide (pipercide), as well as two structurally related amides, were isolated as insecticidal principles. From the results of synthetic studies, N-isobutyl-12-(3-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-2E, 4E-2, 4-dodecadienamide was found to have especially potent activity. This amide, as well as the amides from pepper plants, exhibited notable paralyzing effects and lethal activity against pyrethroid-resistant houseflies. Electro-physiological studies using the central nerve cord of the American cockroach demonstrated that these amides are neurotoxic compounds. (ii) The chloroform extract of the stems and leaves of May apple (Podophyllum peltatum L.) showed fungicidal activity against rice blast. Three new 2-pyrones (podoblastin A, B and C) were isolated as fungicidal components and their structures were determined by synthesis. Fungicidal activities against rice blast were greatly improved by structural modifications, and 3-(2-oxodecanyl)-4-hydroxy-6-n-propyl-5, 6-dihydropyran-2-one was selected as the most potent compound. The preventive effect of this compound against rice blast was most successful, however the curative and systemic effects require further improvement. (iii) A biphenyl(3, 5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxybiphenyl, aucuparin), as well as a new dibenzofuran (2, 4-dimethoxy-3-hydroxydibenzofuran, eriobofuran), were isolated as phytoalexins from fungi-infected loquat trees (Eriobotrya japonica L.). The structure of eriobofuran was determined by synthesis. Eriobofuran exhibited fungicidal activity against Pestalotia funerea (phytopathogenic fungi to loquat), however it did not show any activity against several fungi which are non-pathogenic to loquat. The biological significance of the self-induction of the phytoalexins in the loquat tree was considered in relation to plant resistance against fungal attack.

In order to revaluate the contents of homemaking education in elementary school, a questionnaire was carried out to school children of the fourth, fifth and sixth grades on the learning efficiency of food and nutrition area. The results were as follows: 1.More than 90% of the children of fourth grade have known about good sources of calcium before they took homemaking class. 2.As to the questions about sources of carbohydrate and protein, and soaking time of rice prior to cooking, over ca.50% of the children failed to give correct answer. 3.There were no significant differences among the children of fourth, fifth and sixth grades as to popular knowledge such as sources of calcium, handling of dish towel and usage of gas heater and general skill such as peeling of apple. 4.As to the knowledge of the functions and sources of nutrients, the children of the higher grade showed significantly higher marks reflecting effectiveness of the homemaking class. In summary, the study showed the general propriety of the contents of the homemaking with a few exceptions which showed no difference among grades. Such exceptional items need to be treated differently in those presentation, conceptional definition and interpretation.

The size of the microbial biomass and dehydrogenase activity were measured in air-dried and rewetted apple orchard surface soils with accumulation of Cu, Pb, and As due to the application of Bordeaux mixtures and lead arsenate. The largest amounts of total Cu, Pb, and As found in the soils used were 1, 108, 1, 271, and 209 mg kg^<-1> soil, respectively. The amounts of 0.1 M HCl-extractable heavy metals were strongly correlated with the total amounts, while those of 0.1 M CaCl_2-extractable heavy metals, except for As, increased significantly with decreasing soil pH. The amounts of microbial biomass C and N, expressed on a soil organic C and total N basis, respectively, were each negatively correlated with the amounts of total and 0.1 M HCl-extractable Cu. On the other hand, the dehydrogenase activity was not affected by the amounts of total and 0.1 M HCl-extractable heavy metals, and was negatively correlated with the amount of 0.1 M CaCl_2-extractable Cu and positively with the soil pH. Higher significant correlations were observed when the dehydrogenase activity was calculated per unit of soil organic C. Thus the microbial biomass was adversely affected by the slightly soluble fractions of Cu accumulated in apple orchard soils, whereas the dehydrogenase activity was affected by the water-soluble and exchangeable Cu of which amount depended on the soil pH. It is suggested that the microbial biomass and dehydrogenase activity expressed on a soil organic matter basis could become useful indicators for assessing the effects of heavy metals on the size and activity of the microbial biomass in soils differing in organic matter contents

Immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC) was used to separate ovotransferrin (OVT) by a single chromatographic step. Ovotransferrin was bound strongly to immobilized copper ions, while other components of egg white passed through the column. Using acidic pH and/or a strong competing solute, imidazole, ovotransferrin was recovered in 94〜98% pure form as indicated by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and immunoelectrophoresis. The elution profiles from the IMAC column indicated the presence of two forms of ovotransferrin. The capacity of the IMAC column was 20mg OVT/ml copper loaded gel. Saturation of the metal binding sites of ovotransferrin with Fe^<2+> and Cu^<2+> did not interfere with the binding of ovotransferrin to the IMAC column. However, modification of the histidine residues in ovotransferrin with diethyl pyrocarbonate almost completely destroyed the binding to the IMAC column.

無線通信における情報量的安全性に基づく鍵共有方法として,エスパアンテナを用いた秘密鍵共有方式が提案されている.本稿では,秘匿条件付相互情報量Imacを高めるための方法として,指向性セット候補用意法及び雑音環境により使用する指向性セットを切り替える適応選択法を提案する.鍵長を16bitとする計算機シミュレーションの結果,無作為に指向性セットを選んだ場合の平均と比較して以下を確認した.(1)指向性セット候補用意法によりImac=0.5となる送信電力を5.7dB低く抑えられる.(2)指向性セット適応選択法により同じく7.1dB低く抑えられる.

Background The identification of protein kinase A(PKA) anchoring proteins on mitochondria implies a direct effect of PKA on mitochondrial function. However, little is known about the relationship between PKA and mitochondrial metabolism. Methods and Results The effects of PKA on the mitochondrial redox state(flavin adenine dinucleotide(FAD)), mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨ_m) and reactive oxygen species(ROS) production were investigated in saponin-permeabilized rat cardiomyocytes. The PKA catalytic subunit(PKA_<cat>; 50 unit/ml) increased FAD intensities by 56.6±7.9%(p<0.01), 2'7'-dichlorofluorescin diacetate(DCF) intensities by 10.5±3.3 fold(p<0.01) and depolarized ΔΨ_m to 48.1±9.5% of the control(p<0.01). Trolox(a ROS scavenger; 100μmol/L) inhibited PKA_<cat>-induced ΔΨ_m, FAD and DCF alteration. PKA_<cat>-induced ΔΨ_m depolarization was inhibited by an inhibitor of the inner membrane anion channel(IMAC), 4,4'-diisothiocyanatostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid(DIDS: 1μmol/L) but not by an inhibitor of mitochondrial permeability transition pore(mPTP), cyclosporine A(lOOnmol/L). Conclusions PKA_<cat> alters FAD and ΔΨ_m via mitochodrial ROS generation, and PKAcat-induced ΔΨ_m depolarization was not caused by mPTP but rather by DIDS-sensitive mechanisms, which could be caused by opening of the IMAC. The effects of PKA on mitochondrial function could be related to myocardial function under the condition of extensive β-adrenergic stimulation.
