The mutations of TP53 gene are frequently observed in canine histiocytic sarcoma (HS). The objective of this study was to examine the distribution of tumor cells with TP53 gene mutations. Tumor tissues were divided into three or four regions and TP53 gene mutations were examined. TP53 gene mutations were detected only in parts of the HS tissues from six of the eight dogs, and the frequency of the mutant allele varied (0–65%) among the tumor regions. This study suggests that canine HS can exhibit intratumor heterogeneity. Further studies are needed to examine the clinical significance of the intratumor heterogeneity of TP53 gene mutations.

A 4-year-old male Toy Poodle was presented with a history of status epilepticus. On presentation, neurological examination revealed a delay in postural reactions in the right pelvic limb. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a fluid-containing cystic lesion that compressed the mesencephalon, hippocampus, and amygdala. The cyst was surgically removed via left rostrotentorial craniotomy. The final diagnosis was an intracranial ectopic choroid plexus cyst. The patient has remained free of seizures for 18 months after surgery. This is the first case report of an intracranial ectopic choroid plexus cyst that was surgically removed in a dog.

This study was undertaken to establish a method for measuring mRNA expression by using real-time RT-PCR in the diagnosis of canine meningiomas. When performing real-time RT-PCR, it is essential to include appropriate control tissues and to select appropriate housekeeping genes as an internal standard. Based on the results of our study, RPS18 constitutes a suitable internal standard for the comparison of mRNA expression between normal meninges and meningiomas. The results showed increased mRNA expression of VEGFA and EGFR; however, mRNA expression of KDR was reduced. Measuring mRNA expression by using real-time RT-PCR with appropriate control tissues and internal standards can provide useful information to understanding the pathogenesis of canine meningiomas, which corresponds with immunohistochemical findings.

Samples of savory cup custard obtained from the food service industry were analyzed for the concentration of egg solution by the amount of protein, for the ratio of egg yolk solution by the total amount of phophorous, and for the quantity of dried bonito by the amount of histidine.The concentration of egg solution in the samples of savory cup custard prepared by the food service industry varied from 21.9% to 33.2%. The ratio of egg yolk to egg solution and the bonito concentration in the samples from special shops were larger than in those from general shops.The sensory evaluation result showed that the savory cup custard with an egg solution concentration of 25%, a breaking strength of 3734±267 Pa and a storage modulus of 135±18 Pa was most favored by the panelists.The ratio of egg yolk to egg solution corresponded to the breaking strength. It is clear that both the 30∼40% and 65∼80% ratio of egg yolk to whole egg contributed to the firmness of a good savory cup custard. It is suggested that the addition of egg yolk to whole egg is the best method for preparing savory cup custard. The samples prepared at the ratio of 65∼80% egg yolk to whole egg did not have a smooth texture and strong egg yolk flavor which is not a desirable feature in a good-quality savory cup custard.

ダイヤモンドは超高圧安定相であることから大型結晶の合成が困難であり、応用は工具など硬度を利用した用途に限られていたが、大きさとコストの課題をクリアできれば、その用途は計り知れない。特に究極の半導体と称され、半導体開発ロードマップ上では、炭化ケイ素SiCや窒化ガリウムGaNの次に位置している。高温動作が可能であり、物質中最高の熱伝導率が活かせるパワーデバイスが実現すれば、例えば、車載用インバータを冷却フリー化でき、低電力損失と冷却システムの軽量化の両面から省エネに貢献できる。本稿では、大型化が可能な気相合成による単結晶ダイヤモンド合成と難加工材であるダイヤモンドをウェハ形状にする技術開発について述べる。

韓国での地熱利用は最近の10 年間に著しい成長をとげた。中でも地中熱ヒートポンプ(GHP)が際立っており,それは主として,さまざまな補助金制度,研究開発への支出,新エネルギー・再生可能エネルギー利用を公的機関に義務づける法令,電力料金定額制度等を含む,強力な政府支援によるものである。深部地熱資源に関しては,韓国は火山性の高エンタルピー地熱資源を持たないものの,地下深部には莫大な量の地熱資源がある;例えばEGS 技術を用いれば6.5 km までの深度に19.6 GWeの地熱発電ポテンシャルがあると評価されている。EGS による地熱発電のための最初の概念実証プロジェクトは,ポハンで2010 年12 月に開始された。EGS による地熱発電が5 年間のうちに実現する予定である。国家地熱技術ロードマップ(TRM)は,2030 年までに200 MWe の設備容量導入を達成する目標を定めている。国家地熱TRM に基づいた研究開発プログラムは,全国的なGHP システムとEGS システムの普及に対しその技術的な側面を支援していく。政府による助成金制度が続けられる限り,少なくともこの先5 年間は,急速なGHP の導入が続くと予想される。

Compressive sensing (CS) is an effective approach for fast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). To improve the reconstruction accuracy and computational speed, we propose a novel deep architecture using deep learning. Experiments on MR image reconstruction demonstrate that proposed method significantly accelerates the reconstruction time, with image quality comparable to that of traditional iterative reconstruction.

カルボキシリックポリブタジエンゴムにε-カプロラクタムをグラフトさす反応において, リン酸を触媒として, ゴムへのε-カブロラクタムの添加量の影響, 加熱温度と時間の影響を検討した.その結果, 混入するε-カブロラクタム量が増加するにつれて, ゴムへの結合量は直線的に増加した.また混入ε-カプロラクタム量が40~50部程度の時に良好な物性がえられた.ゴムに結合するε-カプロラクタム量は高温, 長時間加熱するほど増加した.しかし物性面にはゴムの過度のゲル化によると思われる影響が現われ, あまり好ましくないことがわかった.さらに, ゴム用補強剤として代表的なカーボンブラックの影響についても検討した結果, 酸性カーボンよりも塩基性カーボンの方が補強効果が大であった.

Two oceanographic Radars targeting tsunamis had been installed in Wakayama Prefecture in Japan. To study observation capabilities of the radars on far field and near field tsunamis, numerical experiments were carried out. After starting the operation of the radars, nine earthquakes occurred in the observation area, however, they were too small to be observed by the radars. Parameter study on near field tsunamis showed the radars can observe earthquake of Mw 7 and very shallow Mw 6. As a far field tsunami, the 2012 Haida Gweii Earthquake Tsunami arrived at Japan, however, the radars could not detect it because of very small velocity. Parameter study on far field tsunamis showed the main energy of tsunamis off Canada propagates northward, and Oshika Peninsula is suitable to observe the tsunamis.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors. During the recent years, external-beam radiation therapy (EBRT) has been safely and effectively employed for the management of HCC. We overviewed the current evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of EBRT for HCC according to the different target population. PubMed database was searched for identifying English-language full-text articles regarding EBRT for the treatment of HCC. Search items were "hepatocellular carcinoma AND radiation therapy". Until now, preliminary evidence has suggested the following role of EBRT for HCC. 1) EBRT, especially stereotactic body radiation therapy, is an emerging choice of therapy for small HCC. 2) EBRT combined with non-surgical treatment can achieve an excellent intrahepatic tumor control and a potential survival benefit for huge HCC. 3)Adjunctive EBRT may improve the efficacy of transarterial chemoembolization for HCC with portal vein tumor thrombosis. 4) EBRT can relieve the pain and improve the quality of life for patients with extrahepatic metastases. 5) EBRT may be a bridge to liver transplantation by minimizing the tumor progression. 6) Adjunctive EBRT may reduce the tumor recurrence and improve the survival after resection. In summary, EBRT is a promising choice of treatment of HCC. However, more high-quality evidence is needed to further establish the status of EBRT for the management of HCC.

〔目的〕本研究は踵接地時に足関節背屈を意識させたランニングでの下肢筋活動および関節角度の変化を測定し,アキレス腱障がいのリスクを軽減するための一助とすることを目的とした.〔対象と方法〕対象は大学陸上長距離選手7名とし,トレッドミル上で通常のランニングと足関節背屈を意識したランニングを行った.〔結果〕背屈を意識したランニングでは,踵接地時に床と足底のなす角度が増加し,立脚前期での足関節背屈角速度の最大値が減少した.筋活動は,踵接地前の前脛骨筋,立脚前期の大腿直筋で増加を認めた.〔結語〕背屈を意識したランニングでは,接地時の衝撃吸収に足関節底屈筋群以外の筋がより貢献したと予想され,アキレス腱への負担が小さくなると思われた.

A routine parentage test as part of a conservation program for Kiso horses identified a possible sex chromosome anomaly in a 7 months-old filly because of an aberrant result using LEX3, an X-linked marker. We then analyzed X-linked markers (LEX26, TKY38, and TKY270), Y-linked markers (Eca.YH12, Eca.YM2, Eca.YA16, and the sex-determining region Y gene), and an X/Y marker (Amelogenin gene). This analysis demonstrated that the filly had not inherited an X chromosome from her sire. A karyotyping analysis confirmed that the filly was 63,XO. As it was suspected that the horse would be sterile, we avoided using the horse as a broodmare; the information should also serve to prevent unnecessary conflict between owners transferring and receiving the horse.

近視は欧米に比してアジア諸国で頻度の高い疾患であり,特に我が国は世界有数の近視国である.近視人口は年々増大傾向にあり,視覚障害の原因としても大きな割合を占めている.近視の薬物治療については,大きく近視進行の抑制と近視による合併症の治療とに分けられ,前者はまだ保険適応でないものが多いが,後者については近年保険適応となった薬剤も出てきた.本稿では,最近注目されている近視治療に用いられる薬剤に焦点を当てて概説する.

The perennial grass Vetiveria zizanioides (vetiver) is mainly cultivated for its fragrant essential oil. Although the components of the oil and their biological activities have been studied extensively, the effect of the volatiles emitted from the roots of V. zizanioides on humans has so far remained unexplored. We investigated the effects of volatile compounds emitted from the cut roots of V. zizanioides (1.0 g, low-dose conditions; 30 g, high-dose conditions) on individuals during a visual display terminal task. Participants who breathed the volatile compounds emitted under low-dose conditions showed faster reaction times and stimulation of sympathetic nerve activity as measured by electrocardiography. These effects were not observed under high-dose conditions. The total amounnt of volatiles emitted during the experiment was 0.25 μg under low-dose conditions and 1.35 &me;g under high-dose conditions. These findings indicate that volatile compounds emitted from the roots of V. zizanioides under low-dose conditions may have helped subjects to maintain performance in visual discrimination tasks while maintaining high sympathetic nerve system activity.

多発性筋炎(polymyositis:PM)/皮膚筋炎(dermatomyositis:DM)は,自己組織に対して過剰な免疫応答が生じる結果,筋肉,皮膚,関節,肺などに炎症を来たす膠原病である.皮疹を認めない場合はPM,特徴的な皮疹を伴う場合はDMと診断する.PM/DMでは間質性肺炎や悪性腫瘍の併発が比較的多い.モデルマウスを用いた病態機序の解明,自己抗体の発見とその測定法の開発,間質性肺炎を併発したPM/DMの診断・治療のマネジメントなど,ここ10年で日本より世界へ多くの研究成果が発信された.2015年には厚生労働省自己免疫疾患に関する調査研究班内PM/DM分科会により治療ガイドラインが作成された.これらの成果により,日常診療を行う上で非常に有用なノウハウが,医療従事者や患者を含め世の中へ示された.今後,PM/DM患者の機能予後・生命予後のさらなる改善をめざし,具体的な個別化医療の確立が求められる.
