当研究は国際的な観点から大学の成績評価制度におけるGPAの受容と運用の実態を知るために33ヵ国,311大学に実施した質問紙調査の分析報告である.主たる結果は次のとおりであった.米国,欧州,アジア,豪州に分けてみると,GPA制度の運用実態は地域によって大きな違いがあり,米国と日本以外のアジアの大学では9割以上で運用されている反面,欧州での運用は約2割に留まっていることがわかった.レターグレードによる成績等級とGPとの関係をみると,米国の大学ではGP の最大値を一般に4.0にしているが,これを国際的な標準とみなせる証拠は見いだせなかった.現況,同指標の国際的な通用性は成績に当該科目の単位数を関係させるというGPA 制度の根幹をなす算定原理についてのみ認めることができた.

This paper is a critical review of Elisabeth M. de Boer's The Historical Development of Japanese Tone (Wiesbaden: Otto Harrassowitz Verlag, 2010). Traditionally, Kindaichi Haruhiko's reconstruction of the accentual system of Middle Kyoto Japanese has been widely accepted. About thirty years ago, however, an alternative theory was proposed by Samuel Robert Ramsey, according to which the tone values that Kindaichi had reconstructed as 'high' and 'low' are exactly reversed. De Boer, in her book, re-evaluates and builds on Ramsey's theory, while (almost) all other scholars have ignored it. In this paper, I introduce and review her book critically, and discuss some issues in the historical study of Japanese accent.

本研究は,ラオス北部の盆地に位置するラオ族が設立した2村において,人口動態と水田所有の変化を3世代にわたって明らかにした.1970年代以降,政府の政策により高地から低地への移住が進められたが,研究対象地域では新しく水田を造成する土地は限られていた.したがって,高地から移住してきた住民であるクム族の多くは,水田を得ることができず,高地に住んでいた時と同様に自給自足的な焼畑農業を継続していた.1970年代以降の水田所有の変化を追跡したところ,水田を入手する一般的な方法は,離村した住民から水田を購入することであり,多くの住民は,その機会を待ちながら,水田の購入資金を準備するために都市へ出稼ぎに行くことが常態化するようになった.このような低地の盆地農村における高地からの移住者は,水田の少ない盆地にとどまるか,都市に移住するかの選択を迫られており,また高地と都市との移住の中継点として盆地農村が機能している.

Scalp surface lipid (SSL) is one of the important parameters for the physiological study of human scalp. We investigated the refatting rate on the four sites (vertical, frontal, occipital, temporal) of the head in different seasons, before and 2, 24, 48hrs after shampooing. Forty normal females aged between 27 and 52 years were employed as subjects, and the Lipid Meter (Ricoh Co.) was used for measuring SSL. Following results were obtained:1. SSL began to be secreted immediately after shampooing and returned to the level of before shampooing in 24hrs.2. The refatting rate on the scalp depends on sites of the head: SSL was produced in the vertical and frontal sites almost from twice to thrice as much as that of the occipital and temporal ones.3. No seasonal difference was observed in the reffatting rate on each of the three sites of the head except frontal site.

Two-thirds of refugees in the world are said not to be in emergency situations, but trapped in protracted refugee situations (PRS). UNHCR advocates three durable solutions for refugees; (1) voluntary repatriation, (2) local integration, or (3) resettlement to a third country. However, these solutions are not really feasible in light of the fact that the number of refugees in PRS has been increasing. This may have happened because international agencies tend to pay little attention to the idea of social inclusion, especially as it relates to social relations or belonging.Through a case study of Afghan refugees in Iran, this study aims to analyze the roles and meanings of a school managed by refugees themselves from the viewpoints of belonging and approval. The number of Afghans in PRS is approximately 2.6 million and they occupy the largest number of refugees in such a situation. The majority of the Afghan refugees live in urban areas, where they establish and operate their own schools for their children without any external assistance. This study was carried out in one of these schools in Tehran. The teachers and the students at this school are all Afghans. Semistructured interviews and participant observation were the principal tools utilized in the study.It was found that the Afghan refugees have been frequently discriminated against and have encountered difficulties in their lives. They appear to have been often excluded from Iranian society. The study identified three practical roles of these schools as follows: (1) The school can offer alternative learning opportunities for many Afghan children. (2) It functions as one of a few working places for Afghan women. (3) It is a place where Afghan mothers can gather and communicate with each other. These roles have been explored by means of employing the concept of ‘I-basyo’ (a psychological place where one feels one belongs). This might be of importance in understanding more inclusive strategies for refugees in new social contexts.

Due to the coronavirus crisis, schools and universities in Japan faced temporary closures. Online classes were introduced to schools and universities to tackle the situation. Many discussions arose over online classes and face-to-face classes, but they sometimes turned out to be unproductive. In this paper, three points are shown from the viewpoint of pedagogy for sorting out and improving the discussions.The first point is the autonomy of learners. Under the coronavirus crisis, online classes were sometimes recognized as being in accordance with the traditional ‘chalk and talk’ teaching style. However, online learning had originally been promoted in the context of self-directed learning.The second point is the view of curriculum. There are two views of curriculum: curriculum as a teaching plan and curriculum as what is learned by the students. In the discussions under the coronavirus crisis, the latter tended to be neglected. This led to problems such as lack of places for casual talk among students before and after the class and an overload of assignments.The third point is physicality. In online classes, images of the teacher and the students are shown on the display. However, in reality, they have bodies and interact with their surroundings through them. By paying attention to this aspect, online classes can be enhanced.

症例は40代男性, 原発不明がん, 肺転移, 脊椎転移 (T5-6) . モルヒネ硫酸塩徐放錠, ナブメトン錠, アミトリプチリン塩酸塩錠で疼痛治療中に, 腫瘍の進展に伴う脊髄圧迫部位以下の麻痺が完成し, 同時期から, 高度の腹部膨満感, 便秘を認めた. 各種腸管蠕動亢進薬を使用したが症状は改善しなかった. そこで, モチリン受容体アゴニストとして, 自律神経系の麻痺による消化管運動障害改善効果が報告されているエリスロマイシン点滴静注 (1回500mg, 3回/日) を開始したところ, 症状が著明に改善した. その後, エリスロマイシン錠 (1回200mg, 3回/日) へ変更し, 良好な排便コントロールを得ることができた. エリスロマイシンは, 各種腸管蠕動亢進薬が無効な腫瘍の脊髄圧迫など麻痺性の消化管運動障害による便秘に対し有用な治療薬の一つであると考える.

This article presents the status of development of microalgae production for renewable jet fuel. A special species of improved Botoryococcus braunii is cultivated in the pond for producing jet fuel. The species has great characteristics of large growth rate compared with wild species, high content of oil and large particle size. The open-pond cultivation has been succeeded through the scaled-up examinations using pond ranging from 100 m2- to 1500 m2-area in Japan without contamination troubles that other species attacked to it. In the meantime, the open-pond cultivation was also succeeded in low latitudes. The growth rate was larger than that in Japan, that revealed the strength of solar radiation has the tremendous effect of enhancement of growth on the species.

A virtual zero power (VZP) method was used to reduce the power consumption of hybrid magnetic bearings (HMBs) in left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). The mathematics of the HMB system in LVAD was established, and the stability was analyzed with a proportional-derivative (PD) controller. The unbalanced forces on the rotor can be identified by the output voltage of the PD controller, together with the negative stiffness of the permanent magnet, and the rotor can be suspended at a point where the rotor’s reluctant force is at a minimum to lower power consumption. Experiments were conducted to measure the power consumption of the magnetic bearing at different rotational speeds, and different trajectories of the rotor were demonstrated. The results showed HMB using VZP consumed 0.28W averagely at 1000-4000rpm in the LVAD.

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are widely used in various fields. However, their limited computing resources make them extremely vulnerable and difficult to be effectively protected. Traditional intrusion detection systems (IDS) focus on high accuracy and low false alarm rate (FAR), making them often have too high spatiotemporal complexity to be deployed in IoT devices. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes an intrusion detection model of IoT based on the light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM). Firstly, the one-dimensional convolutional neural network (CNN) is used to extract features from network traffic to reduce the feature dimensions. Then, the LightGBM is used for classification to detect the type of network traffic belongs. The LightGBM is more lightweight on the basis of inheriting the advantages of the gradient boosting tree. The LightGBM has a faster decision tree construction process. Experiments on the TON-IoT and BoT-IoT datasets show that the proposed model has stronger performance and more lightweight than the comparison models. The proposed model can shorten the prediction time by 90.66% and is better than the comparison models in accuracy and other performance metrics. The proposed model has strong detection capability for denial of service (DoS) and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Experimental results on the testbed built with IoT devices such as Raspberry Pi show that the proposed model can perform effective and real-time intrusion detection on IoT devices.
