We conducted a home medical care (HMC) training workshop consisting of presentations given by regional HMC leaders that targeted community pharmacists in collaboration with a nearby pharmaceutical association. Subsequently, we conducted a questionnaire survey with the pharmacists in attendance to assess their opinions of the present HMC situation. The participants' satisfaction with the workshop was relatively high, at an average of 8.13 out of 10. Among the participants, 70.9% had experience with HMC, such as visiting pharmacy services at patients' homes, with the most frequently practiced activity being “drug administration guidance for patients at home.” However, activities such as “accompanying medical rounds” and “participation in home care conferences” were not widely practiced (at a rate of less than 50% of the most popular activity) among the participants. Next, many participants responded that the key HMC factors were the creation of systems of cooperation between different professionals and their environmental arrangements. Participants also made suggestions for future lectures, such as on the subjects of contract procedures and HMC case reports. Furthermore, the participants suggested that the qualities necessary for effective HMC were a wide and practical knowledge of HMC and a positive attitude. In conclusion, many patients stated that cooperation with other professionals is important in deepening pharmacists' HMC involvement, and the pharmacists hoped to establish greater communication between pharmacists and other HMC workers.

Submarine Groundwater Discharge (SGD) is now recognized as a significant role to the ecology of coastal environment as well as river discharge. This paper takes a first step for highlighting nutrient transport through SGD to volcanic rock area along the Ariake Bay. SGD rates and their qualities along the coastal area of the Ariake Bay, Ohura, Saga Prefecture, Kawachi, Kumamoto Prefecture, and Fukae, Nagasaki Prefecture regions are investigated. As a result, SGD generally decreased with the distance from the shoreline except Ohura point where large seepage rate is observed. It is presumed that SGD could be classified into two types based on the rate of SGD and the geological structure. Then, it is indicated that the SGD oxidation-reduction condition varied with seepage rate and path way. The results of this study demonstrate that SGD may be considered as a significant source of nutrient to the coastal area in Ariake Bay.

Electrochemical oxidation of olefins using N-hydroxyphthalimide as a mediator was studied. Allylic methylene and allylic methine groups were oxidized to give the corresponding enones, while allylic methyl groups were not readily oxidized except for those of 2, 3-dimethyl-2-butene. The product distribution was similar to that observed in free radical autoxidation of olefins. A possible mechanism of the oxidation is proposed.

In plant cells, the trans-Golgi network (TGN) is known to act as the early endocytic compartment, whereas RAB5-localizing multivesicular endosomes (MVEs) act as the later compartment. Land plants and certain green algal species possess plant-unique RAB5 homologs (ARA6/RABF1 in Arabidopsis thaliana) in addition to the orthologs of animal RAB5 (RHA1/RABF2a and ARA7/RABF2b in A. thaliana), and these two RAB5 members reside in substantially overlapping but different subpopulations of MVEs. Several studies indicate that the TGN and MVEs are closely related; however, the distribution of the two RAB5 groups in relation to the TGN remains elusive. Here, we quantitatively showed that ARA6 and ARA7 are closely associated with the TGN, and the subpopulation of ARA6 and ARA7 overlaps with the TGN in the root epidermal cells of A. thaliana.

夏季における新ソバ供給と水田の高度利用を目的にした, 西南暖地における夏ソバ栽培技術の確立に関する研究の一環として, 播種期の違いが夏ソバの生育ならびに収量に及ぼす影響について調査した. 普通ソバ品種キタワセソバの種子を, 愛媛大学農学部内の雨よけビニルハウスに設置したポットに3月中旬から6月初旬まで10日ごとに播種した. 播種期が遅くなるほど開花数は増加したが, 結実率の著しい低下により粒数が減少し, さらに千粒重も低下して子実重は減少した. 特に, 開花始~成熟期における日最低気温の平均値が17.5℃を越えると結実率は顕著に低下した. したがって, 西南暖地における夏ソバの播種は, 遅霜の心配がなければできるだけ早く, かつ開花始~成熟期における日最低気温の平均値が17.5℃を越えない時期までに終える必要があることが明らかになった. さらに, 瀬戸内地域においては遅霜と梅雨入り時期ならびに上記臨界温度を考慮すると, 播種期は3月下旬から4月中旬に限定されること, 4月中旬までに播種すれば収穫は6月初旬となり, 初夏には新ソバの供給ができるばかりでなく, その後作に水稲はもちろんダイズ, 飼料作物などの栽培も可能となり, ソバを水田における輪作体系に組み込むことができることも明らかになった.

The Escherichia coli chaperonin GroEL is an essential molecular chaperone that mediates protein folding in association with its cofactor, GroES. It is widely accepted that GroEL alternates the GroES-sealed folding-active rings during the reaction cycle. In other words, an asymmetric GroEL–GroES complex is formed during the cycle, whereas a symmetric GroEL–(GroES)2 complex is not formed. However, this conventional view has been challenged by the recent reports indicating that such symmetric complexes can be formed in the GroEL–GroES reaction cycle. In this review, we discuss the studies of the symmetric GroEL–(GroES)2 complex, focusing on the molecular mechanism underlying its formation. We also suggest that GroEL can be involved in two types of reaction cycles (asymmetric or symmetric) and the type of cycle used depends on the concentration of non-native substrate proteins.

The multiple sequence alignment (MSA) of a protein family provides a wealth of information in terms of the conservation pattern of amino acid residues not only at each alignment site but also between distant sites. In order to statistically model the MSA incorporating both short-range and long-range correlations as well as insertions, I have derived a lattice gas model of the MSA based on the principle of maximum entropy. The partition function, obtained by the transfer matrix method with a mean-field approximation, accounts for all possible alignments with all possible sequences. The model parameters for short-range and long-range interactions were determined by a self-consistent condition and by a Gaussian approximation, respectively. Using this model with and without long-range interactions, I analyzed the globin and V-set domains by increasing the “temperature” and by “mutating” a site. The correlations between residue conservation and various measures of the system’s stability indicate that the long-range interactions make the conservation pattern more specific to the structure, and increasingly stabilize better conserved residues.

Provanna Dall, 1918ハイカブリニナ属は深海の化学合成生物群集に広く生息し多産するグループである。日本の近海では,ハイカブリニナ属にはP. glabra Okutani, Tsuchida & Fujikura, 1992サガミハイカブリニナ,P. abyssalis Okutani & Fujikura, 2002カイコウハイカブリニナ,P. shinkaiae Okutani & Fujikura, 2002シンカイハイカブリニナの3既知種が分布しており,種によって深度分布と底質が異なる。本研究では南西諸島海域から新たに発見された新種について報告する。貝殻の比較形態学的解析および分子系統解析の結果から,4新種の存在が明らかになった。(1)P. subglabra n. sp.ニヨリハイカブリニナ(似寄灰被蜷:和名新称)は膨らみのある平滑な貝殻で特徴づけられ,沖縄トラフの熱水噴出域では最も多産する。種小名と和名は,本種がかつてP. glabraサガミハイカブリニナに同定されていたことに由来する。(2) P. clathrata n. sp.コウシハイカブリニナ(格子灰被蜷:和名新称)は粗い格子状の彫刻を持ち,沖縄トラフ南部の熱水噴出域に生息する。(3) P. lucida n. sp.ミガキハイカブリニナ(磨灰被蜷:和名新称)の殻は平滑で縫合が深く,今のところ沖縄トラフ北部の南奄西海丘にのみ出現する。(4)P. kuroshimensis n. sp.クロシマハイカブリニナ(黒島灰被蜷:和名新称)の殻は平滑でオリーブ色の殻皮を持ち,黒島海丘に固有である。一方,歯舌の形態は4種の間で明確な差は見られなかった。この発見により,ハイカブリニナ属は南西諸島の狭い範囲で多様化していることが明らかになったが,その要因としては南西諸島海域の化学合成生態系形成域が多様な環境にあることが関係していると考えられる。

全てを階層的な関係の中に包摂する全体論的な構造から逃れる先住民の女神がいる。この南インドの女神は、ある女性の非業の死から単独の神として生まれた。女神はヒンドゥー寺院の象徴的階層構造に取り込まれて穢れた部分を排除される。だが全体からは予測できない飛躍の中で排除された部分から意味が生み出される。系列と系列を横切って創発が起こり、全体論的な構造が部分化する過程を記述した後、部分と全体の関係を再考する。

Atherosclerosis is considered a chronic inflammatory disease and an intervention targeting the inflammatory process could be a new therapeutic strategy for preventing atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (CVD). We hypothesized that the intestine, which is considered the biggest immune organ in the human body, could be a therapeutic target for preventing CVD. We demonstrated that oral administration of anti-CD3 antibody or an active form of vitamin D3reduced atherosclerosis in mice via induction of regulatory T cells and tolerogenic dendritic cells in the gut-associated lymphoid tissues. Similar to regulatory immune responses achieved by oral tolerance, our method had systemic effects that ultimately contributed towards atherosclerosis reduction. Recently, we have been interested in the gut microbiota, which have been reported as highly associated with intestinal immunity and systemic metabolic disorders, including obesity and diabetes. Notably, the guts of obese individuals are predominantly colonized byFirmicutesoverBacteroidetes. The association between atherosclerosis and microbiota has been attracting increased attention, and gut microbiota have been shown to participate in the metabolism of a proatherogenic compound called trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) and aggravate CVD. Our investigation of the relationship between susceptibility to CVD and the gut microbiota revealed a characteristic flora type. Here, we discuss the evidence for the relationship between the gut microbiota and cardiometabolic diseases, and consider the gut microbiota as new potential therapeutic targets for treating CVD. Lethal effects of tetrodotoxin (TTX) and saxitoxin (STX) on 6 species of nontoxic marine crabs, as well as effects of the toxins on their nerves, were investigated. There was wide variance among species examined for the lethal effect of TTX and STX. The tolerances of nerves are almost compatible to lethal tolerance with the exception of Hemigrapsus sanguineus. This species showed relatively high resistance to TTX, but its nerve was at almost the same level of tolerance as those of other TTX-sensitive crabs. In order to elucidate the mechanism for high TTX-resis-tance in H. sanguineus, nerve tolerance was measured in the presence of its body fluid. The body fluid reduced the effect of TTX on the nerves, while no effect was observed for STX. It is also con-firmed that pre-injection of the body fluid of H. sanguineus into a mouse was effective to some extent in protecting the mouse from TTX attack.

要旨:一葉性はイワタバコ科のモノフィレア属とストレプトカルプス属にみられる。これら一葉植物では大きく成長した1枚の子葉だけで体が構成され、一生を通じて茎も普通葉も作られず、花序は子葉の葉身基部から生じる。一葉植物は、その形態の特異さから、これまで様々な分野、特に進化形態学の研究者の注目を集めてきた。本稿では最近の比較形態形成研究ならびに分子系統解析の情報から、イワタバコ科における一葉性の進化について議論する。

雄成虫の形態に基き,3亜属に属する日本産Polypedilum属7未記載種を新たに記載した。これらのうち,P.akisplendens, P. albiventris, P. crassistyla, P. fuscovittatum, P. paranigrum の5種はPolypedilum亜属に属し, P. pseudomasudai及びP. bingoparadox-umは,それぞれ Tripodula 亜属及び Uresipedilum 亜属に属している。
