The purpose of this article was to introduce the case of the Aspen Institute Project Play and to consider a few current topics in Japanese youth sports. In 2013 this project was launched by the Aspen Institute Sports and Society Program in the U.S. Subsequently, it has produced multiple reports regarding issues surrounding youth sports in the U.S and has held annual summits to address these issues (2016, 2017). Additionally, it has succeeded in obtaining various stakeholders’ support (e.g. MLB, NBA, NBC Sports Network and NIKE) through implementation of its nationwide projects. The primary issues around childhood play/movement that Project Play has highlighted are the impact of childhood obesity and inactive lifestyles. To address these concerns, they developed eight strategies, including the “Sport for All, Play for Life Model”. This model aims to encourage all young people in the U.S to participate in competitive and/or recreational sports throughout their lives. In summary, the strengths of this project can be described as improving the cycle “research → strategy → evaluation” based on the above-referenced model. Furthermore, the vast network of stakeholders has enhanced the impact of its resources. Therefore, in the Japanese youth sports setting, it might be useful to consider the development of a similar model which encompasses both competitive and lifelong sports. Two key steps, as demonstrated by Project Play, are development of an effective network and utilizing the existing data related to youth sports in Japan.

ブルバキの数学的構造主義とヒルベルトの形式主義からの影響を軸としてパタン・ランゲージに至るアレグザンダーの初期理論の全体像を明らかにした.具体的には『システムを生成するシステム』(1967)に挙げられている「システム」に関する二つの概念,「全体としてのシステム」と「生成システム」が,それぞれブルバキの数学的構造主義における「構造」とヒルベルトの形式主義における「形式システム」に対応し,特に後者に関しては,「生成プロセス」が形式システムにおける証明プロセスをモデルにして構築されていることを示した.さらに,アレグザンダーの初期理論の全体構成は,統語論と意味論の分離をその特徴として持つヒルベルトの形式主義の中に位置づけることが可能であり,「構造」はその枠組みの中で意味論を与える役割を担っていることを明らかにした.

潮汐現象は高校地学で学習する身近な自然現象の一つである。高校地学の教科書では、潮汐は次のように説明されている。①潮汐は主に月の引力と地球の公転による遠心力の合力によって起こる、②月に面した側とその反対側で満潮となる。③満月と新月の時に干満差が最大になる(大潮)。④満潮と干潮は一日にほぼ2回起こる。このうち満潮と干潮の時刻については、問題があるのである。満月の日に月が南中するのは真夜中の 0 時である。したがって、①が正しいならば、大潮の日の満潮は真夜中と真昼に起こらなければならない。ところが、実際には朝と夕方に満潮となり説明と矛盾している。この矛盾は、潮汐の波の速度(約 200 ㎞/s)が地表面に対する月の移動速度(約 470 ㎞/s)に比べてはるかに遅く、月の動きについて行けないことが原因である。本研究では、潮汐を単振動モデルで表し、月の引力の変動に対する海水の運動を力学的に考察して、月の運動に対して潮汐波の位相が 180 °のときに周期的に安定した運動になると考えれば、この矛盾を説明できることが明らかになった。

We have established a new method of HPLC analysis for the rapid separation from human serum and the quantification of 4-O-methylpyridoxine (MPN), which is contained in Ginkgo biloba seeds, and which, when consumed in large amounts, causes vomiting and convulsions. As a result of using IPCC-MS3 (GL Science, Tokyo, Japan), an ion-pair reagent, in the mobile phase, we succeeded in separating MPN in the deproteinized serum sample which was introduced directly onto the reverse-phase HPLC column. For the calibration curve of MPN standard solution, prepared with fluorescence detection at an excitation wavelength of 290 nm and an emission wavelength of 400 nm, a good linear relationship was obtained within the HPLC injection range of 10 ng—10 pg (in terms of the injected sample concentration, range: 1.0 μg/ml—1 ng/ml), allowing the detection of minute amounts, with the limit of detection (concentration of injected sample: 500 pg/ml) being 5 pg. In addition, when MPN solution was added to human reference serum to give a concentration of 0.002 μg/ml, the mean recovery rate was 92.5%, with RSD=7.09% (n=5). The time required for one analysis using this method is approximately 30 min, and thus it offers the advantages of greater speed and superior analytical sensitivity over the conventional methods, which require solid-phase extraction. We employed our new method to determine both the serum levels of MPN in 5 patients with Ginkgo biloba seed poisoning and the levels of free-form MPN in such seeds obtained in 8 regions of Japan.

特集にあたって:近年,様々な分野で「大麻・カンナビノイド」が注目を浴びつつある.大麻はもちろん大麻取締法で規制される依存性薬物であるが,医療用大麻は日本以外では鎮痛や食欲増進,吐き気の緩和などを目的に使われているのも事実である.そこで本特集号では大麻草や内因性カンナビノイドシステムの現況をより深く知り,米国での医療用大麻使用や社会問題化した危険ドラッグの実情に迫るとともに,創薬標的としてカンナビノイドCB1,CB2受容体に焦点を当て,化学系・生物系・医療系など多分野の先生方にご執筆いただき,分野横断的な特集とした.表紙の説明:近年,大麻草(右下)に注目(一筋の光り)が集まりつつある.医療用大麻は世界では欠かせない医薬品になりつつあり,大麻の主要成分であるΔ9-THC(左手上の化合物)が特異的に作用するカンナビノイドCB1,CB2受容体(イラスト)は新たな創薬標的として研究が進むが,カンナビノイド受容体は危険ドラッグ(右手)の作用点でもあり,影の部分があることも否めない.

2007年4月に開かれたニューヨーク・モーターショー(New York International Auto Show)。北米で好調な日本車メーカーからの新型車が目立つ半面、米国メーカーや欧州メーカーからは新しい提案は少なかった(図1)。ショーの主役を飾ったのは、日産自動車の「Infiniti」、トヨタ自動車の「Lexus」ブランド、そして富士重工業の新型「インプレッサ」だった。

浜田の提案したURR (Universal Representation of Real numbers)表現は絶対値が1から離れるに従って,急速に精度が悪化するという欠点がある.この欠点を改善するために一般化した二重指数分割に基づく数値表現法を提案する.URR表現は二重指数±2±2mで実数を大まかに近似するが,本論文ではこれを±p±qmと一般化した.この一般化した表現ではpとqを大きくすることで,大きな実数に対してURR表現よりも少ないビット数で近似できるようになる.特にp=4,q=16と選ぶことによって,URR表現に比べ広範囲で精度の良い二重指数分割に基づく数値表現法となる.この一般化した数値表現は数々のURR表現の長所を有し,急速な精度の悪化も抑えている.この数値表現で実際に簡単な数値計算を行い,URR表現に比べ精度が良い本数値表現の有効性を検証した.A precision of URR(Universal Representation of Real numbers)which was proposed by Hamada goes to worse rapidly when the absolute value goes away from 1.We proposed generalized numerical representation based on the double exponential cut for the improvement to the serious drawback of URR.URR approximates real numbers with double exponential form of ±2±2m.We generalized the base of double expential cut ±p±qm in this paper.With larger p and q,our representation can approximate large numbers,spending lesser bit length than URR.Especially,our numerical representation with parameters of p=4,q=16 is preciser than URR.The generalized representation also has the same merit as in URR,and it canescape from the demerit in URR.We verified the effectiveness of our representation with simple numerical calculation.

The development of Hemingway's view of death can be traced through his trials to find out how to live in our life that is 'nada' in itself. In the trials there are three aspects; the first is the way of living that is found in the series of 'men of endurance' from Henry to Cayetano. They are to live in absolute lonliness rejecting the imminent death by means of their strong physical power. The essence of their way of living is revealed in Cayetano's tenacious attitude toward life when he says, "Continue, slowly, and wait for luck to change," which is nothing other than the claim for the existence of human beings in the painful, cruel and aimless violence of life. The second is in the images ranging from Macomber to Santiago. They are willing to challenge death, feeling "religious ecstasy" from their standpoint as 'men-out-of-himself.' This mental attitude of theirs is manifested in Hemingway's study of "the complete faena (of the bullfighter) that takes a man out of himself and makes him feel immortal while it is proceeding, that gives him an ecstasy that is, while momentary, as profound as any religious esctasy." The third and final one is Harry's attitude toward life. He exemplifies 'the dignity of human beings' beyond death in spite of the fact that he is completely deprived of physical power and good luck (the two fundamental elements of the above two aspects) by the limitation of time. This theme of the limitation of time is, for the most part, the principal element of Green Hills of Africa, and Harry's spiritual calmness is symbolized in the shining white snows of Kilimanjaro. The literary world of Hemingway begins with the real things which are pursued to the utmost, but it ends in the abstract sphere of thought in which the spiritual victory of man over death is groped for. Such an abstract conception of his world arises from his longing for the dignity of human beings who are destined to live in this life that has no end but death.

マツダの新型SUV「CX-5」が売れている。日本では、2012年2月の発売から4カ月半で約2万4000台を販売した。これは、同社が掲げた年間目標販売台数の2倍に相当する。海外でも、年間目標販売台数が1万2000台のロシアで既に受注台数が1万台を超えるなど、好調な滑り出しだ。こうした状況を受けて、同社はCX-5の生産能力増強を決めた。

現行学習指導要領の実施に伴う図学関連教育の学習定着度の変化を調べるために東京大学においてアンケート調査を行った.また,空間認識力の変化を調べるために,東京大学,日本大学においてMCT 調査を行い,日本大学の調査結果については明星大学の従来の調査結果と比較した.その結果,以下の事が明らかになった.高校迄の図学関連項目に関する学習定着度は,現行指導要領の実施に伴って低下した.現行指導要領実施前後におけるMCT 調査において,東京大学では得点に変化はみられなかったが日本大学においては有意に下落した.現行指導要領の実施に伴い学生の空間認識力が低下した可能性が考えられる.現行指導要領実施以前のMCT 得点の経年変化をみると,両大学ともに低下していたが,その下落幅は大学進学率の上昇による偏差値変化によって説明できる.このことから,この間の指導要領改訂は空間認識力に大きな影響を及ぼしていないものと考えられる.
