It has been recognized that chromium is an essential trace element associated with carbohydrate metabolism, and chromium deficiency causes an impaired glucose tolerance. Recently, however, Vincent et al. have reported that chromium is not an essential trace element. In the present report, the author evaluated the nutritional essentiality of chromium by reviewing several previous reports. In almost all previous reports, the chromium concentration in the animal feed used was higher than 0.1 μg/g, and it is difficult to consider that the experimental animals were in a low-chromium state. In addition, the amount of chromium administered to the animals for the improvement of glucose tolerance was at a pharmacological level, and corresponded to a level that far exceeded the human daily chromium intake (20 to 80 μg/day). On the other hand, recent research has clearly shown that feeding with a severely low-chromium diet (0.016 μg/g) does not impair glucose tolerance. The amount of chromium absorbed in humans estimated from chromium intake (20 to 80 μg/day), chromium absorption rate (1%), and urinary chromium excretion (<1 μg/day) is less than 1 μg/day, which is much lower than those of other essential trace elements. In addition, because there is an inconsistency between the chromium concentration in food and chromium intake, chromium intake seems to be dependent on chromium contamination during food processing and cooking. It is concluded that there is a high possibility that chromium is not an essential trace element.

Ophieleotris aporos was originally described by Bleeker (1854: 59) as Eleotris aporos.After Gill (1863: 270) established the genus Ophiocara based on Eleotris ophicephalusValenciennes, a synonym of Ophiocara porocephala (Valenciennes), E.aporos wasassigned to the genus Ophiocara by Bleeker (1877: 27).Aurich (1938: 132) established a new genus Ophieleotris for O.aporos based on the study of sensory canal pores, arrangement of pit organs and other characteristics. However, his genus has not been used by others but Whitley (1964: 55), as far as it is known to us.Our study on comparative morphology on O.porocephala and O.aporos with other species, listed on p.74, has revealed further different characteristics between two species and other species, some of which can be used for separating O.aporos from the genus Ophiocara and for recognizing the genus Ophieleotris for O.aporos.The characteristics of the two species are listed in Table 1.The most importantcharacteristics of the two genera, Ophiocara and Ophieleotris, in comparison with othergenera listed on p.74 are: 1) The presence of a process on the inner side of themaxillary in Ophiocara (Fig.1A) and the absence in Ophieleotris (Fig.1B).2) Thepresence of oculoscapular canal from nasal to posttemporal with the pores A to Lexcept for G, of preopercular canal with the pores M to Q and three supratemporalsin Ophiocara (Fig.2A);the absence of oculoscapular canal and supratemporals andthe presence of short preopercular canal with the pores N'and O'in Ophieleotris (Fig.2B). 3) 17 segmented caudal fin rays in Ophiocara and 15 segmented caudal finrays in Ophieleotris.4) 26 (or rarely 27) vertebrae and the first and second pterygiophoresof the first dorsal fin are inserted between the third and fourth vertebrae in Ophiocara (Fig.3A);25 vertebrae and the first pterygiophore between the third and fourthvertebrae (Fig.3B) or the first two or three pterygiophores between the fourth andfifth vertebrae in Ophieleotris (Fig.3C).5) The presence of a short, low longitudinalridge on frontal in Ophieleotris (Fig.4A);the absence of the ridge in Ophiocara (Fig.4B).6) The size of a scale of interorbital space of Ophiocara smaller than thatof caudal peduncle;the size of a scale of interorbital space of Ophieleotris larger thanthat of caudal peduncle and the largest of all the genera;the size of a scale of caudalpeduncle of both genera is not different.Although O. porocephala has no suborbitalwhose presence is thought to be an unspecialized characteristic, it has common characteristicsin 1) to 4) with the species with a suborbital, except for the loss of thepore G.Thus O.porocephala closely resembles the species with a suborbital whichare thought to be the most unspecialized species. As for O.aporos, when compared with them, it has no characteristics which are as unspecialized as those found in O.porocephala.

クオリティの高い映像を制作する場合には,ハイエンドなパソコンやアプリケーションを利用する必要があるため,実践者は映像制作のコツを獲得することが必要となる.そこで本研究は,映像制作のスキル習得を目指す学習者の言語報告に注目し,そのコツの獲得に関する認知プロセスを検討することを目的とする.方法として,パソコンによる映像編集の経験がないノービスの大学生4名が,研究協力者として参加し, MacBook ProとFinal Cut Proを使って約2か月間の映像制作を行った.学習者に対して,映像制作の実践後,言語報告するように教示した.学習者の映像制作の熟達度合の評価として,自己評価の経時的変化を検討した.言語報告を分析した結果,「疑問・エラー」「理解・意識」「コツの獲得」「その他」の4つの大区分と、8つの小区分に分類された.考察から、映像制作に対する共通する認知プロセスとして、映像編集に関する疑問・エラーを繰り返しながら,それらの知識を習得し,コツを獲得していくことが示された.また,ノービスが映像制作を行う上で,他者の評価を意識し過ぎることが,コツの獲得に影響する可能性が示唆された.

かおりのある植物精油を用いたアロマセラピーは,近年,代替医療のーつとして感染症に対する効果に大きな注目が集まっている.精油は,既存の抗真菌剤にはない特徴を有しているが,その代表的なものに揮発性がある.精油は,真菌に直接接触できなくても,揮発成分の拡散により,抗真菌効果を示すことが可能である.また,感染症で臨床的に問題となる炎症症状をも抑制することができる.これらより,表在性真感染症に対する新たな治療法としての精油の有効性が期待される.

自律型無人探査機(AUV)は母船とケーブルで繋がれておらず,全自動で活動できることから,氷の下のようなこれまで調査の難しかった場所の観測を実現できると期待されている.本稿ではAUVの概要および一般的な構成について紹介するとともに,氷の下に展開する際の課題,これまでの研究開発事例,そして我々が今後開発を目指すAUV の設計方針について紹介する.

食用油製造における脱臭工程および精製条件について紹介した。脱臭工程での精製条件は, その選択により食用油商品の品質が決定付けられるので, 脱臭工程中の精製条件の食用油の品質に及ぼす影響についても説明した。また, 最近は消費者の嗜好が多様化するに従って, 健康指向, 特徴ある風味, あるいは臭い, 汚れなどの視点で差別化した商品が食用油市場に増えてきた。これらの商品の品質を判定する手段として食用油の重合物生成や臭いなどに関する評価方法について言及した。

欧米諸国では,経済の低迷や人口の高齢化等による社会保障費支出の増加等により,構造的に支出が収入を上回っている傾向にあり,厳しい財政運営を強いられている。このような財政状況の下,各国においては財政再建を進めたり,財政の健全性を維持したりするためには,一定の拘束力のある中期財政計画や支出の総額上限等を定めた財政ルールに則った財政運営が必要であるとされている。そして,中期財政計画を策定するために中長期の財政の見通しを試算したり,政府が財政ルールを遵守しているかなど,政府の財政健全化の取組や予算作成の全体を分析評価したりする独立財政機関が注目されている。他方で,財政監督機関として伝統的な会計検査院が存在している。 本稿では,アメリカ,イギリス,ドイツ,フランス及びフィンランドを取り上げ,各国の独立財政機関の制度,組織及び活動状況について概観し,伝統的な財政監督機関として存在している各国の会計検査院は,どのように財政の健全化のための取組を行っているのかについて考察するとともに,独立財政機関と会計検査院の役割の相違,役割分担等について検討を行った。 独立財政機関と会計検査院の役割分担について考えてみると,一般的に,独立財政機関には,財政計画や予算の策定に使用するマクロ経済の推計を行ったり,財政健全化目標の達成状況を評価したり,個々の政策の財政への影響を具体的に分析評価したり,財政の持続可能性など将来の事象についての分析評価が期待される。一方,伝統的な会計検査院の役割は,主に予算執行の結果である決算の正確性,妥当性など過去の事象についての分析評価や検証を行うことであり,予算の執行について事後的に分析評価や検証を行っていく過程で決算数値を基に,様々な比較検証を行うことにより財政の持続可能性の検証など将来の事象についての分析評価を行っている。
