Genetic studies on the purple-fleshed sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas L.), which is rich in anthocyanin (AN) in the storage root, were performed by polyploid GWAS based on the allele dosage probability using 59,675 SNPs obtained from 94 F1 progenies between the cultivars 'Konaishin' (which has a high yield but no AN) and 'Akemurasaki' (which has a high AN content but low to moderate yield). The distribution of relative AN content was highly biased, with 60% of clones showing a low to undetectable level (A530 < 0.5). Fifty-nine SNPs from six signals on homologous groups (HGs) 3, 5 (one major and one smaller signal), 7, 13, and 15 were strongly associated with the relative AN content. Twelve SNPs from the major signal and one from the smaller signal of HG 5 were further detected by QTL analysis. In a database search of the AN biosynthesis gene, transcription factors IbMYB1 and IbWD40 and AN structural genes IbF3H and IbDFR were located on HG 5, suggesting that an SNP marker or markers from HG 5 might be tightly linked to candidate gene(s) homologous to one of these transcription factors and AN structural genes as a major factor in determining AN accumulation in the storage roots. These results would enhance our understanding of the underlying genetic basis of AN accumulation in the storage roots of sweetpotatoes, and the SNP markers found here, especially 13 SNPs from HG 5, would be a potential platform for future marker-assisted selection for breeding high-AN sweetpotato varieties.

入院および外来の患者,延べ387名より胃管にて空腹時に有管法にて分画採取した基礎およびテトラガストリン刺激後のpH0.95からpH6.9までの標本,3206検体を用いて胃液のpHと滴定酸度(mEq/l)との関係について検討した.一定のpHに対応する滴定酸度は一定した値ではなく,かつその変動幅はpHが高いほど大であったが,pHが高くなるとともに酸度は全体として低下し,pH(X)と滴定酸度(Y)との関係の近似式(Y=369.19-424.09X+203.66X<SUP>2</SUP>-48.29X<SUP>3</SUP>+5.57X<SUP>4</SUP>-0.25X<SUP>5</SUP>)を求めることができた.また,これにより計算したヒト胃液のpHから酸度(mEq/l)を求める換算表を日常臨床のために呈示した.

1) The manufacturing industries in Nagasaki are forming a seaside-industrial area standing for an exclusive accumulation, in a limited area which is closely related with labour and production. This geographical fact in a spatially-occupied area shows the economic structure of industry, as described in the following 2), 3), and 4).<br>2) Nagasaki is a mono-industrial city, in which the production of a metal-machine industry accounts for over 80% of all industrial productions.<br>3) The main metal-machine industry is ship-building of all-round assembly ndustries, and nearly all of them are carried on by correlated enterprises or subcontracted enterprises.<br>4) A colossal monopolistic enterprise, named &ldquo;Mitsubishi&rdquo;, is responsible for over 90% of all productions of the metal-machine industries, and over 80% of all manufacturing industries. This is a regional characteristic of Nagasaki depending upon authority, of course, though these structures are observed in Japanese economics as a general tendency.<br>5) A specially fixed area as described in 1) is the old Fuchi Mura village, portion of Nagasaki City, which was incorporated with Nagasaki at the time of the expansion of the first municipal area, in the 31st year of the Meiji era: 1898. This area had already become an industrial area, at the time when the Mitsubishi ship-building yard and its correlated industries were located.<br>6) As this area was incorporated with Nagasaki City, the port of Nagasaki, which was once a luxury-consuming city, began to show to signs of being newly reconverted to an industrial city in many sections. It was, so to speak, a spatial proclamation.<br>7) The center of the present industrial area in the city is a district belonging to the old Fuchi Mura village, a portion of Nagasaki, just as it was. This indicates that only an exclusive accumulation by regional groups was set forward, not carrying out spatial expansion from the 31st year of the Meiji era: 1898, and later, notwithstanding the industrial extensive growth of Nagasaki after that.<br>8) The industries of Nagasaki have been growing together with the Mitsubishi ship-building yard, and the correlated industries&hellip;&hellip;especially the metal-machine industry, located in the interior of the ship-building yard or in the neighborhood. As other industries in this area repeated the rise and fall of prosperity in proportion to Japanese capitalism, there was no formation of an extensive industrial area with mentioning in this area.<br>9) The industry did not expand spatially, the geographical facts setting forward the exclusive accumulation to the old Fuchi Mura village are nothing else but having a spatially-represented, historical process of which the interior structure of industries shows extreme patterns, as described in 2), 3), and 4).

黒塚古墳は奈良盆地の東南部,奈良県天理市柳本町に所在する全長約130mの前方部を西に向けた前方後円墳である。周辺一帯には多数の前期古墳が集中して分布し,大和古墳群と呼ばれる。1997年8月~1998年5月,1998年7月~1999年2月にかけて,奈良県立橿原考古学研究所・天理市教育委員会を主体とする大和古墳群調査委員会によって学術発掘調査が実施された。埋葬施設は後円部中央に南北に設けられた内法長約8.3mにおよぶ大規模な竪穴式石室である。石室石材は川原石と大阪府柏原市に産出する芝山玄武岩・春日山安山岩板石を使用する。石組の排水溝を備えているほか,石室の構築にあたっては前方部に向かってのびる切り通し状の作業道(墓道)を設けていたことが判明した。石室内におさめられていた木棺は,クワ属の巨木を使用した長さ6.2m,最大直径1mを超える割竹形木棺である。中世に大規模な盗掘を受けているが,それ以前に石室が大きく崩壊していたことが幸いし,盗掘は基本的に石室床面付近にはおよんでいない。結果として,副葬品の大半は後世の撹乱を免れ,奇跡的に埋葬当時の状況をとどめていた。副葬品は三角縁神獣鏡33面,画文帯神獣鏡1面のほか,大量の鉄製武器・武具・農工具類など豊富である。三角縁神獣鏡33面はすべて舶載鏡で,鏡式の上では三神三獣鏡を含まず,現在までに知られる最古の組み合わせである。7種15面の同笵鏡を含み,京都府山城町椿井大塚山古墳出土鏡との間に10種の同笵鏡を分有する。棺内副葬品は画文帯神獣鏡1面と若干の刀剣類のみで,それら以外はすべて木棺と石室壁体との隙間に置かれていた。また,三角縁神獣鏡はいずれも木棺側に鏡面を向け,西棺側に17面,東棺側に15面,棺北小口に1面を,棺の北半部をコの字形に取り囲むように配列していた。前期古墳の豊富な副葬品の内容と,副葬時の配列方法が具体的に判明する貴重な資料である。同時に,作業道(墓道)・排水溝の存在や石室壁体の構築状況,副葬品の配列状況などから,古墳祭祀の具体的復元に向けての良好な資料が得られた。築造時期は古墳時代前期前半と考えられる。

A 1-year- and 11-month-old spayed female toy poodle had showed progressive ataxia and paresis in the hindlimbs since 11 months old. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed high signal intensity on T2-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery images at the thoracic and lumbar spinal cord. The dog’s neurological condition slowly deteriorated and flaccid tetraparesis was exhibited. At 4 years and 11 months old, the dog died of respiratory failure. On postmortem examination, eosinophilic corkscrew bundles (Rosenthal fibers) were observed mainly in the thoracic and lumbar spinal cord. Histological features were comparable to previously reported cases with Alexander disease. This is a first case report to describe the clinical course and long-term prognosis of a dog with Alexander disease.

<p>In this commentary, we will introduce the tribology technology related to the cultural properties of Aichi prefecture. First of all, with regard to intangible cultural properties, we focus on the Aichi parade floats and describe the technical features. Also on abundant industrial heritage, we describe machine tools and railway technology. In addition, we introduce the war legacy which keeps the remnant of war damage, and look back on the history of tribology. By looking at these cultural properties, you can feel familiar with the technologies that form the basis of today's tribology.</p>
