In the biological system, various processes of the self-assembly and formation of ordered structure (e.g., protein folding, molecular recognition, association of protein molecules, and protein-membrane association) occur to sustain life. By referring to our results of analyses using statistical-mechanical theories, we argue that the entropic gain originating from the translational movement of water molecules play crucially important roles in these processes.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the microstructure and chemical composition of the oldest heavy section cast iron cannon in China, which was manufactured at the early Ming dynasty in the year of 1377 with the inscription of Hongwu. It is worthwhile to study any characteristic casting processes and advancement of the heavy section casting technology during the Ming dynasty because the cannon technology could be developed based upon the leading technology of that age. This cannon has been preserved and displayed at Shanxi Province Art Museum. Some microstructural analysis was performed on site by use of portable grinding and polishing tools for the metallurgical examination. In addition, more detailed metallurgical examination by EDX, XPS, high temperature optical microscope (OM) and DSC analysis was performed on a small sample taken from the cannon. Chemical analysis was also performed on the grinding chips and powder collected during the metallurgical surface preparation. A thermodynamic phase diagram was calculated by CALPHAD method for the material with the same chemical composition as measured. After the detailed metallurgical examination and chemical composition analysis, it turned out that the cannon has a chemical composition range of minor elements as: C: 1.36-1.8 mass%, S: 0.58-0.78 mass%, P: 0.61-0.81 mass%, Si: 0.45-0.61 mass%, and shows a uniform hypereutectoid microstructure. Taking into account the evidence of no microstructural gradient from a surface to inside which is not common in ancient decarburized cast iron, the cannon is highly likely to be made by a cast steel rather than by a cast iron.    Non-metallic inclusions are observed both by OM and by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) on the sample. A high temperature optical microscope with an in-situ heating capability was used to directly observe any phases with a lower melting temperature. Also DSC analysis was performed on the sample to examine any phase change at some specific temperature. Based upon these observations and analysis, it was concluded that the Hongwu cannon was made by cast steel with a hypereutectoid microstructure. This microstructure contained a eutectic phase in pro-eutectoid cementite, which suggests a formation of steadite Fe-Fe3C-Fe3P with a low melting temperature of 1227 K. This finding strongly suggests that, instead of cast iron technology, cast steel technology had already existed and was put in use for heavy-section cannon production during early Ming Dynasty in China.

Media coverage of disasters potentially damages mental health. Moreover, its effects may differ as recipients may have different emotional responses toward media. The present study examined whether social capital, known to be protective against mental problems, influences a recipient’s emotional response toward news media broadcasting of natural disasters via newspapers, television and internet in Japan. Three social capital components, social participation, social support and cognitive social capital, were considered in the present study as each component reportedly had different effect on mental health. This nationwide cross-sectional survey was undertaken in 2015 among 1,200 Japanese citizens aged 15 to 79 years who were selected using the multi-stage sampling procedure. Data were collected via the drop-off pick-up method using a printed structured questionnaire. Negative and positive emotions were classified based on recipients’ responses against news media. Among 1,190 participants who reported emotions toward news media, 30.9% (368) had experienced any natural disasters, 37.4% (445) belonged to at least one formal or informal organization (social participation), 40.2% (478) had high social support, and 68.8% (819) had high cognitive social capital. High social support was associated with both reduced negative emotional response (OR 0.66, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) 0.47-0.93) and increased positive emotional response (OR 1.48, 95% CI 1.04-2.12) in multivariate analyses, while high cognitive social capital was only associated with increased positive emotional response (OR 1.62, 95% CI 1.11-2.37). These results suggest protective effects of social support and cognitive social capital against news media coverage of natural disasters.

【目的】今回、試合中のバッティング動作において、腰痛を発症した高校野球選手のバッティングフォームを三次元動作解析したので、フォームと腰痛発症要因の関係について若干の考察を加え報告する。<BR>【対象】本研究に同意を得た年齢18歳の高校野球選手で右投げ右打ちの外野手である。試合のバッティング時に内角低めを空振りして腰痛発症し、腰部椎間板障害の診断を受け、3ヶ月の理学療法により症状消失した症例である。<BR>【方法】野球のティーバッティング動作を6台の赤外線カメラ(180Hz)を有する三次元動作解析装置UM-CAT_II_(ユニメック社製)を使用して分析した。そして、内角・外角の2コースを設定し、各コースのティーバッティング動作における腰部の回旋と脊柱の側屈の動きについて測定した。腰部の回旋や側屈は、15ヶ所に貼付したマーカーのうち両肋骨下縁のマーカーを結んだ線(胸郭線)に対する両上前腸骨棘を結んだマーカーの線(骨盤線)のX軸に対する水平面上の回旋や前額面上の傾きで計測した。回旋は上から見て反時計回りを左回旋とした。また、腰椎の回旋は骨盤線に対する胸郭線の回旋とした。側屈は後方から見て骨盤線が胸郭線に対し反時計回りに傾いた状態を左凸の右側屈とした。<BR>【結果】バッティングにおける体幹の動きは、内角や外角のボールを打つのに関係なく軸脚加重期(ステップ足が離床から膝最高点)では右凸の左側屈・右回旋、踏み出し期(ステップ側の膝最高点からステップ足の床接地)では左凸の右側屈・腰椎右回旋(骨盤左回旋>胸郭左回旋)、スウィング期からフォロースルー期にかけては左凸の右側屈と腰椎左回旋(骨盤左回旋<胸郭左回旋)を行う。内角と外角のボールを打つときのバッティングフォームの違いは、スタンス期の左側屈角度、スイング期、フォロースルー期における体幹右側屈角度と腰椎回旋角度が内角を打つ動作より外角を打つ動作のほうが大きかったことである。<BR>【考察】今回行ったティーバッティング動作の体幹の動きについての分析では、内角のボールを打つときにくらべ、外角のボールを打つときには体幹の側屈角度や回旋角度は大きくなった。このことから、関節角度が大きくなる外角のボールを打つ動作は、腰椎へのストレスが大きく障害発生の危険性が高いと思われる。しかし、今回の症例では、内角のボールを打つ際に空振りをして腰痛発症している。これは、脊柱の動きが少ない内角打ちを空振りしたため脊柱の動きが急に大きくなり、関節中心軸から逸脱した腰椎回旋を生じ腰痛を発症したと考えられる。今後は、実際にボールを打ったときの脊柱の動きと空振りをしたときの脊柱の動きについて検討する必要があると思われる。

常時微動を測定・解析することは地盤・構造物等の動特性を明らかにし,強震時における災害の可能性を把握する上で非常に有効である。本論文では測定された常時微動の波動の性質を振巾に関する確率密度分布,周期に関するフーリエ振巾スペクトルとゼロクロッシング法による周期一頻度スペクトルとの比較検討を行い波動解析に関する若干の考察を行ったものである。測定はナゴヤ球場で行われたものである。

This paper focuses on representative works of sekai-kei(セカイ系)which came out in the 1990s and 2000s in Japanese subculture. Sekai-kei literally means "world-type", but セカイ("world" written in katakana) is different from 世界("world" in kanji).Then one question is, why is it that "world" is written in katakana? Furthermore, another question arises as to the storyline of the works of sekai-kei. In those works, a tiny relationship between two persons (you as a fighting cute girl and I as an ordinary boy) directly leads to a catastrophe of the world. What does the storyline mean? This paper illuminates the works of this genre in terms of sociocultural history of Japan.

これまで機械システムが人間の感情やストレスを理解する研究を行ってきた.これを応用すれば,装着型センサやスマートフォンを用いて気分の浮き沈み状態のセルフチェックや SNS を介した他者からのアドバイスを得ることができる.本報告では,音声情報に含まれる感情価を分析し,連続的な変化として可視化することを目標とし,ストレス負荷時と安静状態の差異を実験的に検証した.分析結果がアンケートによる主観評価と良い相関を示したことを報告するとともに,音声入力のインタフェースデザインの改良方法について議論する.The author has researched and developed emotional recognition or stress estimation by sensor system. Using these techniques, one can not only understand his/her own mental state by a wearable sensor and a smart phone, but also get some useful advice from others through social networking service. The in this report purpose is to continuously monitor one's mental state by analyzing the emotional valence in one's voice signal. From experimental results, emotional valence changed from the rest and stress situation. Also, subjective assessment showed a good correlation with voice analysis. So, an application implementation for a smart device will be proposed for usage in daily life.

Some kinds of spatiotemporal pattern generator systems are expressed by evolution equations. Such evolution equations are composed of many dynamic units which behave from only its local information. This is one example to coordinate many subsystems which observe the system from inside and to generate a global order. This paper shows how to treat these evolution equations and how to apply it to network systems. First, a continuous media system which is expressed by a gradient system in function space is considered. One of the simplest potential functional derives a reaction diffusion equation which decreases the value of potential functional monotonously. The similar result is found in graph space. That is, a reaction diffusion equation on a graph decreases the value of a potential functional monotonously. This means that a network of dynamic units which observe only their connecting units' states can generate a global order in the same way of continuous media. This theory can treat some internal dynamic network system which should coordinate without some kinds of central controllers.

Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) contains a major allergen, Fra a 1, which causes oral allergic syndrome. Fra a 1 is a PR-10 homolog that is regulated by environmental conditions. The allergenicity of fruit caused by Fra a 1 may depend on the genotype or growing conditions. We analyzed the Fra a 1.01 transcript levels and Fra a 1.01 protein levels in strawberry fruits of several genotypes across all seasons. In the preliminary rough screening, we selected the line WH1 bearing white fruit and the red-fruited cultivar ‘Akihime’. Under the same environmental conditions, there was no significant difference in Fra a 1.01 levels between the two cultivars over several months, suggesting that receptacle color was not indicative of allergenicity caused by Fra a 1.01. Fruits cultivated under the same environmental conditions should be used for comparisons of the allergenicity among genotypes. Both ‘Akihime’ and WH1 accumulated significantly higher levels of Fra a 1.01 protein in winter than in spring. We investigated the effects of irradiation and low temperature as environmental factors controlling the accumulation of Fra a 1.01 in winter. A shading treatment on fruit did not significantly affect Fra a 1.01 protein accumulation in strawberry fruits. Regarding variations over time, the Fra a 1.01 protein content was higher in fruits harvested at midnight in January than in those harvested at other times and in other months. These findings suggested that the Fra a 1.01 protein accumulates in response to environmental factors such as cold stress.

Non-task-oriented dialogue systems are required to chat with users in accordance with their interests. In this study, we propose a neural network-based method for estimating speakers’ levels of interest from dialogues. Our model first converts given utterances into utterance vectors using a word sequence encoder with word attention. Afterward, our novel attention approach, sentence-specific sentence attention extracts useful information for estimating the level of interest. Additionally, we introduce a new pre-training method for our model. Experimental results indicated that it was most effective to use topic-specific sentence attention and proposed pre-training in combination.
