The paper presents the prefaces used in the discussion in a TV program in Japanese. It is natural that people should express their own opinion in the discussion without any hesitation. In Japanese, however, many prefaces, hedges, indirect expressions and so on are used, when objections are raised in discussion. To summarize, the prefaces are used in both ways showing one's approval and making an objection. The use of prefaces reflects the possessing "politeness" in mind. Making an objection to someone means "Face Threating Act, " nevertheless we often have to make an objection. In this case, we show our concern of "politeness" by saying that "To tell the truth, " "If I may ask, " and so on. Received Sept. 28,1998

マネジメントコントロールシステム(MCS)は,経営目的を達成するために利用されている情報ベースの仕組みであり,管理会計システムに基づく会計コントロールはその中軸に位置し,経営理念を基礎とした理念コントロールや人間関係に基づく社会コントロールとともに組織の行動パターンに影響を及ぼしていると考えられる。本研究では,日本企業におけるMCS の利用実態を明らかにするためにサーベイ調査を実施し,組織文化によってMCS がどのように組み合わされて利用されているのか,MCS が組織成員の心理的状態に及ぼす影響を手がかりにその実態を分析した。分析の結果,組織文化の違いによって,組織成員の心理的状態や企業業績に影響を及ぼしているMCS の組み合わせが異なることが明らかになった。具体的には,柔軟性を重視する組織文化を有する企業群では,理念コントロールや社会コントロールの役割が大きく,安定や統制を重視する組織文化を持つ企業群では,理念コントロールや社会コントロールに加えて会計コントロールも重要であることが示された。

This study purported to analyze and clarify factors that cause interpersonal stress, conflicts, inferiority complex and dislocation in adolescence. Study I identified three categories of interpersonal stress: (1) interpersonal conflict, (2) interpersonal inferiority complex, and (3) interpersonal dislocation. Study II examined correlations between personality trait scales and these three categories. These correlations were analyzed according to stressfulness and frequency of events. As a result, validity of the three categories was supported, and it was suggested that different strategies were necessary for intervention in order to reduce the impact of stress.

昨今, 出版界ではオンデマンド出版(POD)がホットな話題になっている。PODは, ニッチなマーケットを扱う学術出版, 返本率の異常な高さ, 過剰在庫, 品切れや絶版本に対する小口注文の扱いなど, 出版界が抱える懸案課題の一部を解決するだろう。PODは, 出版ニーズが少部数化に向っている現在, 出版界の改革を促す役割を果たすであろう。しかし, 従来の画一的な製作・流通環境の再構築を行い, 効率的かつ良質本の出版に移行しない限り, 出版界の本質的な問題は解決しない。本稿では, 紀伊國屋書店が「電写本」を始めた理由やそのサービスの仕組みを解説するとともに, 現在の出版界が抱える本質的な懸案課題についても論じる。

In order to clarify the health effects of work stress and possible strategy for its prevention and treatment, we reviewed the literature on work stress as follows:1) Review was made on 12 major psychosocial work stressors, 4 acute reactions to stress, disease outcome of work stress, measurement methods of those variables, and theoretical models of work stress.2) Epidemiological studies of the effects of work stressors on cardiovascular diseases, psychological distress and mental disorders in Japan were reviewed. Also, work stress in specific occupations such as software engineers, nurses and female researchers was reviewed.3) The following strategies for the prevention and treatment of the health effects of work stress were reviewed: i) surveillance of work stress, ii) improvement of psychosocial work environment, iii) education and information dissemination, and iv) reinforcement of occupational mental health services.Finally, the need for further investigation on the health effects of work stress and on the possible programs for the prevention and treatment in occupational health care system was discussed.

オンデマンド印刷は, 一般的には少部数・短納期のコンピュータを駆使した印刷技術と捉えることができる.ただし, 組版を印刷会社でおこなうことはコスト上問題があり, 多くの場合顧客データをそのまま印刷している.これは顧客と印刷会社間でのソフトウエアの共通認識がなければ困難でもある.機械のマニュアル類をデータベースに蓄積しておき, 必要があり次第印刷するといった本来の意味でのオンデマンド印刷は, それだけで会社が成り立つほど, 多くの需要がある.<BR>出版に目を向けると, 絶版本をスキャニングして蓄積するといった当初の試みは成功しなかったが, インターネット受注による個別の全集製作, 本屋の店頭でのオンデマンド印刷といった試みがなされている. しかし, まだ, 品質的, 価格的には実験段階であり, 商業ベースとして成功しているとは言い難い. 今後, 価格面での競争力向上が鍵だろう.<BR>オンデマンド印刷はコンピュータと密接な関係があり, 印刷機というより情報処理端末である. オンデマンド印刷の前提にはプリプレスのフルデジタル化があり, 今まではこのデータ生成そのものに苦労してきた. CTPの普及とともにフルデジタル化は達成されつつあり, これからオンデマンド印刷の新時代がはじまる. そして最終的にはオフセット印刷の代替品としてではなく, One to Oneマーケティングや弱視者のための大活字本といったオンデマンドでなければならない商品を生みだすことで, 新たな印刷技術として定着するだろう.

伊勢湾を対象として, 沿岸部と海上部で取得された風観測資料を用いて1時間ごとの海上風分布のデータセットを9年間にわたり作成し, その平均特性を調べるとともに, これと1点浅海モデルおよび波候解析モデルを組み合わせた波浪の長期推算システムを構築し, その精度を検討した. この結果, 1) 伊勢湾では湾奥から湾外に向けて平均風速が増大するが, 夏季にはSE方向, それ以外の季節ではNW方向の風が卓越し, 湾軸が風の通り道になっていること, 2) 本システムによる外洋性波浪資料はECMWF-WAM解析資料より高い精度をもつことや, 本システムは伊勢湾内外の観測地点の波浪に対して良好な再現能力を有すること, を明らかにした.

ブルーノ・タウト(Bruno Taut)が設計した集合住宅ジードルング、および独立住宅の旧自邸について、その時代の建築設備を考察した。その結果、集合住宅ジードルングでは、鋳鉄製や陶製の暖炉が用いられていたが、独立住宅の旧自邸では、当時普及し始めた重力式温水暖房を設置していた。玄関と反対側の扉の間に風の通り道を作り、また、階段の煙突効果を利用して、自然に通風がなされるよう工夫を凝らしていた。ジードルング、旧自邸ともに改修を経て現在も使用され、その間、暖房機器が暖炉から重力式温水暖房、そしてポンプ式暖房へと変遷した。

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of changing the plantar flexion resistance of an ankle-foot orthosis on knee joint reaction and knee muscle forces. Furthermore, the influence of an ankle-foot orthosis with an over-plantar flexion resistance function on knee joint reaction force was verified. [Participants and Methods] Ten healthy adult males walked under the following three conditions: (1) no ankle-foot orthosis, and with ankle-foot orthoses with (2) a strong and (3) a weak plantar flexion resistance (ankle-foot orthosis conditions). The knee flexion angle, quadricep muscle force, hamstring muscle force, and knee joint reaction force during the stance phase were measured using a motion analysis system, musculoskeletal model, and ankle-foot orthosis model. [Results] The peak knee joint reaction force, knee flexion angle, and quadricep muscle force in the early stance phase significantly increased in the strong plantar flexion resistance condition in comparison with the “no ankle-foot orthosis” condition. [Conclusion] Increased knee joint reaction force with over-plantar flexion resistance suggests that over-plantar flexion resistance causes various knee problems such as knee pain and knee osteoarthritis.

This paper clarifies the basic structure of the modes of <i>togaku</i>, based on analysis of <i>Sango Yoroku</i>, an extensive collection of notation for the <i>biwa</i> (four-stringed short-necked lute) compiled by Fujiwara no Moronaga (1138-1192). It is said that the modes of <i>togaku</i> derive from modal usage in China of the Tang dynasty (618-917). Detailed analysis of the full range of individual pieces in notated in <i>Sango Yoroku</i>, however, indicates that various transformations occurred as the modes were transmitted in Japan, which resulted in a multi-levelled japanization of modal usage. In this paper three main levels of japanization have been identified: 1. changes in mode-key (Ch. <i>jun</i>, Jp. <i>kin</i>); 2. incorporation into certain modes of pieces originally in other modes; and 3. changes of scale structure in certain modes.<br>Next, in an effort to determine the basic structure common to all modes, statistical analysis was made of the modal usage in the melodies of pieces in <i>Sango Yoroku</i> with reference to the four basic Tang modal species, namely <i>gong</i> (Jp. <i>kyu</i>, church lydian), <i>shang</i> (Jp. <i>sho</i>, church mixolydian), <i>yu</i> (Jp. <i>u</i>, church dorian) and <i>jue</i> (Jp. <i>kaku</i>, church aeolian). Factors considered include the relative frequencies of appearance of the degrees of the modal scale, tendencies in melodic progression, and the position of mordent-like melodic ornamentation. A basic structure was identified: the character of each mode is determined by the relationship between two factors, namely the existence of two melodic centers, which might be called keynote and sub-keynote (the relative position of which differs according to mode), and the appearance of mordent-like ornamentation at specific positions in the basic heptatonic series. This structure is based on the concept of mode-key, which was not fully understood or transmitted in Japan, and it therefore seems reasonable to surmise that it derives from Tang-dynasty modal usage.
