When developing rehabilitation assist suits, safety consideration for patients is crucial. Computer-aided control techniques can improve their safety. However, when the computer breaks down, the assist suit may be dangerous for the user because of its unintentional motion. Therefore, assist suits with hardware-based safety devices are desired to guarantee safety even when the computers do not operate properly. In this paper, we present a new rehabilitation assist suit equipped with a velocity-based safety device and a torque limiter. The assist suit assists a patient's knee joint. The velocity-based safety device switches off the assist suit's motor if it detects an unexpected high joint angular velocity. The torque limiter cuts off the torque transmission if it detects an unexpected high joint torque. These safety devices will work even when the computer breaks down, because they consist of only passive mechanical components without actuators, controllers, or batteries. Firstly, we describe the features of the assist suit with the safety devices. Secondly, we introduce the structure of the assist suit. Thirdly, we explain the structure and mechanism of the velocity-based safety device. Fourthly, we show the prototype assist suit that we have developed. Finally, we present experimental results to verify the effectiveness of the velocity-based safety device installed on the developed assist suit.

Background:Giant coronary aneurysm is the most severe sequela in Kawasaki disease, occurring in approximately 0.2% of patients in Japan. Regression is rare, while myocardial infarction (MI) and sudden death are relatively common. Herein, we reviewed patients with giant coronary aneurysm in a 10-year period.Methods and Results:A nationwide questionnaire survey was conducted based on a national epidemiological database from 1999 to 2010. We identified 355 giant coronary aneurysm patients, of whom 209 were analyzed. The 5- and 10-year total cardiac event-free rates were 0.72 and 0.68, respectively. Twelve patients died, and MI was observed in 32 patients (18.1%). Five and 6 deaths were due to coronary rupture and MI, respectively. All ruptures occurred within 1 month of onset, while most MI occurred within 18 months. There was no death beyond 2 years. Aneurysm size was significantly related to the occurrence of MI in both the right and left coronary arteries. At the time of writing, 55% of patients had no exercise limitations. And including patients who cannot perform strenuous exercises, 81% of patients were leading ordinary lives.Conclusions:Severe cardiac events are likely to occur within 2 years from onset of Kawasaki disease, while no deaths occurred beyond this time. Hence, careful monitoring is needed especially for the first 2 years. Most patients with giant coronary aneurysms can lead ordinary lives with appropriate management.

Ni/CeO<sub>2</sub>系のハニカム型構造体触媒における構造様式の違いがCO<sub>2</sub>のメタン化特性に及ぼす影響を調査した。ストレートチャネルにより構成されるプレーン様式の構造体触媒に比べて,流路部を短く分割し,間に空隙を設けたセグメント様式の構造体触媒が高い反応性を示した。セグメント様式の反応場はNu数とSh数が大きく,この物質・熱移動の促進が高い反応性の一因であると推測された。

スケート選手を対象とし,寒冷環境下での身体活動がサイトカイン応答に及ぼす影響を寒冷適応の有無から検討した.寒冷環境適応者のショートトラックスケーター,寒冷環境不適応者のインラインスケーター,それぞれ男子 10 名を被験者とし,60 分間の寒冷 (5~8℃) または常温 (20~25℃) にて安静状態を維持した後,最大酸素摂取量の 65%強度に相当する自転車エルゴメーター運動を 60 分間負荷し,常温で 120 分間安静状態維持を実施した.採血は,安静時,寒冷ないし常温下で 60 分安静後,運動負荷直後,30 分後,60 分後,120 分後の計 6 回肘静脈より行い,血漿を分離した.サイトカインの濃度は酵素免疫測定法により測定した.寒冷環境適応者が常温で運動すると IL-1ra,IL-10, IL-12p40 などのサイトカインが誘導されるが,これらの運動時のサイトカイン応答は寒冷(冷却)によって抑制できることが評価できた.<br>
