The Shimozaisho alternation of limestones and clayslates is an unusual sedimentary mass located within the Hida gneiss terrain., The alternation is covered by later sediments and lavas; however, its relation to the Hida gneiss is indeterminable., Although the alternation of limestones and clayslates is both thermally and dynamically metamorphosed, some poorly preserved fossil corals and fusulines have been found in the Shimozaisho limestone, a member of the alternation., These fossils suggest Moscovian for the age of the limestone., The find of the Moscovian Fusulina Zone is a new discovery in the strata of the Hida Plateau., Because the Jurasso-Cretaceous Tetori group which overlies the Shimozaisho alternation is not metamorphosed, the alternation is thought to have been metamorphosed sometime between the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic.,

A new species of yeast belonging to the Genus Pichia Hansen was isolated from exudation of a tree stump, (Carpinus spec.) in Japan. The name Pichia saitoi was proposed for this microorganism. A characteristic feature of this species is in its unique shape of ascospores.

1 0 0 0 OA 小選挙区比例代表並立制下における補助金配分の機能に関する分析
本研究の目的は、1996年以降、衆議院の選挙制度として用いられてきた小選挙区比例代表並立制下において、国庫支出金を主とする補助金の各地方自治体に対する配分を手段として利用することによって、政権の維持を可能にしてきたということを実証的に明らかにすることである。財政を拡大しにくい、一様に補助金を減らす方向である場合にあっては、政権与党に対する支持の高い地域ほどその度合いが緩やかであることが明らかとなった。したがって、補助金を手厚くする局面にとどまらず、補助金を減らす局面においても、その配分には政治的な影響がみられるということである。

A prediction and analysis system for the performance of a ship in real seas is proposed and constructed, with EUT (Enhanced Unified Theory) adopted as the main calculation method. The proposed system can compute the frequency-domain response functions of the wave-induced ship motions, the distribution of the pressure and global wave loads, the relative wave height, and etc. In addition, the added resistance, wave-induced steady lateral force and yaw moment can be predicted, including effects of the bow wave diffraction, the forward speed and 3-D interactions in a rational manner. By using these results and a wave spectrum representing real irregular seas, the short-term prediction of linear responses, the averaged added resistance, and the resultant speed loss of a ship in irregular waves can be calculated with the present system. Good performance of the system is demonstrated with some comparisons to experimental results and some applications to the speed correction in the speed trial and the prediction of the speed loss in actual voyages.

This paper describes new mechanisms, principle, control methods, computer simulation and experimental results of the second version of an all-direction steering-type mobile robot which has a spherical monowheel. Basic simulation results of straight running and rotation coincide with experimental results of the robot, and these results clarified, firstly, relationships between center of gravity and running ability of the robot, and secondly, the relationships between the robot's rotational angle and friction torque of the spherical wheel with the ground. Furthermore, it was confirmed experimentally that the new robot has high maneuverability, such as omnidirectional travel with zero-turning-radius rotation on any kind of surface. Therefore, it is expected that the spherical-wheeled robot developed here can be applicable as a safe personal service robot that can work with human beings in a limited space.

本研究の特色は、寛政期の対外政策を、当該期を世界観の変容というダイナミズムの中に位置づけた点にある。具体的には以下のことが解明できた。(1)蝦夷地政策に積極的であった田沼期と蝦夷地幕領期との間に位置する寛政改革期は、蝦夷地政策を展開させる重要な一段階であった。(2)対ラクスマン外交は、むしろ、日本の伝統的な対外関係のあり方に即して策定された(3)定信はロシアに対する深い知識を背景に、礼節を持った法治国家、すなわち、文明の国として、ロシアに対し日本を対置した(4) 「鎖国」の観念がナショナリスティックな色彩を帯びつつ、日本の国是として定着する契機は、日露紛争という近世日本が初めて遭遇した深刻な対外的危機にあった。
1 0 0 0 OA 海のこころ、森のこころ─鯨類と霊長類の知性に関する比較認知科学─
チンパンジーなどの大型類人猿とハンドウイルカなどの鯨類を主たる対象として、われわれ人間の知性の進化を、特に系統発生的制約と環境適応という観点から比較認知科学の手法を駆使して検討を行ってきた。研究は、物理的世界および社会的世界の知覚・認識・理解に関して様々な観点から多様な種を対象に実施された。その結果、基礎的視知覚、空間認識における身体的制約、イルカ類における道具使用的行動、概念的メタファーの理解、他個体認識、聴覚コミュニケーションの種特異性と一般性、オランウータンやイルカにおける向社会行動の発現過程、チンパンジー、オランウータン、イロワケイルカにおける母子間関係の発達的変化を明らかにした。
