Number of death and injury from the farm accidents in Hokkaido increases exponentially by year in proportion to the propagation of large farm machinery. The death and injury rate are 1.9 and 27.5 respectively per 10, 000 workers in 1974.This analysis was held to get information for safety work which is derived from 1663 accident cases in last two years.1) About 9% of the reported accidents are the animal-related injuries. And apporoximately 12% are occurred in burn and other structures around farm, and most of them are slip or falls of the workers (Table 2).The remaining 79% are the machine-related injuries (Table 3, 6, 7).2) The tractor and it's implements are involved in 36% of the total injuries. Over-turns and runover of the tractor have the highest fatality rate for the machine-related injuries. While transporting job are involved in 11%, and over two third of them are due to falls on the different level.The remaining 31% are due to stationaly or selfpropelled machines.3) Less than a third of all injuries were due to “falls” of man on the same or different level, and being “struck by” or “caught in” the machine parts accounted for nearly another one third of the all injuries.4) The information of labour scientist will be a great help in producing the program of accident prevention.

A 34-years-old woman, who had received Kasai operation due to congenital bile duct atresia at the age of 0, was pointed out esophageal varices and liver cirrhosis at one year and a half before pregnancy. At 25 weeks pregnancy, the esophageal varices was ruptured and she received endoscopic variceal ligation after emergent admission. Although the variceal bleeding was well controlled, the fetus grew up slowly and its growth arrest was recognized by ultrasound examination at 29 weeks pregnancy. Caesarean section was performed and a boy of 842g was delivered. Genital bleeding, however, continued postoperatively because of poor uterine contraction, and a large amount of blood transfusion was necessary. Both of uterine arterial embolization was performed by interventional radiology and she was discharged on the postoperative 15th day. The newborn grew up and was also discharged on the 92nd day of his birth.

A simple, rapid and sensitive method has been developed for determination of traces of silver(I) (0.2 - 13 ng mL-1) based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of thionine by peroxodisulfate in the presence of 1 - 10 phenanthroline as an activator. The reaction is monitored spectrophotometrically by measuring the decrease in absorbance of thionine at 600 nm by the fixed time method. The detection limit is 0.098 ng mL-1 and the relative standard deviation for 0.5, 3.0, 5.0 and 10 ng ml-1 Ag(I) are 4.1, 1.37, 1.06 and 0.64%, respectively. The method is free from most interferences and it was applied to determination of silver in photographic solutions and well-water samples.

低温菌のPseudomonas fragiと中温菌のPseudomonas aeruginosaの生育,死滅,揮発性塩基窒素産生ならびに数種の基質酸化活性におよぼす温度の影響を検討した結果,両菌の生育差を生ずる要因の一つとして,P. fragiがP. aeruginosaに比し,低温で安定な基質酸化機能を営む酵素系をもつことが示唆された。しかしその詳細はまだ不明な点が多い。

We report herein on a 52-year-old Japanese woman with acute pericarditis and glomerulonephritis associated with human parvovirus B19 infection, who had no significant medical history. The patient was admitted for progressive edema and upper abdominal pain. On physical examination, she had hypertension, generalized edema and upper abdominal tenderness. Urinalysis revealed protein (1+), and occult blood (±), with cellular casts. Echocardiography revealed pericardial effusion measuring 3-9mm in diameter. A serological test showed elevation of serum IgM antibodies for parvovirus B19. At the end of two weeks, generalized edema and glomerulonephritis improved spontaneously, and pericardial effusion was resolved three weeks after admission. This case would appear to be a very rare case indicating a direct relationship between human parvovirus B19 infection and acute pericarditis in a healthy adult patient.

We encountered two cases of Pasteurella multocida subsp. septica isolation from exudates with seminal fluid-like odor from dog scratch and cat bite.Case 1: A 78-year-old male who had been diagnosed as having diabetes mellitus five years ago was scratched by the claw of a pet dog (Pekinese) on the back of the right hand. Since inflammation ascended to the arm, the patient visited Nihon University Itabashi hospital for a medical examination. Case 2: A 51-year-old female without a specific past history other than hyperlipidemia was bitten by a pet cat at the medical and lateral sides of the left carpus. The patient immediately opened the wound and washed it with tap water, followed by disinfection using a non-iodine disinfectant at home. Two hours later, the patient felt an unpleasant sensation and smelled a seminal fluid-like odor at the wound. The next morning, the entire left arm swelled and pain worsened, then the patient sought medical attention. The patients were treated with antibiotics and the wound completely healed on the 16days from on set in Case1and on the 10days from oncet in Case 2.From these two cases, Pasteurella multocida subsp. septica was isolated from the exudate, suggesting that when wounds caused by animals smell like seminal fluid, the wound is infected with Pasteurellae. This finding may be an important clue for differentiation in clinical diagnosis.

Delayed wound healing is one of the complications of diabetes mellitus. The present study was performed to investigate the effect of Aloe vera oral administration on open wounds in type 2 diabetic rats. Full thickness open wounds (1.5 × 1.5 cm) were created under general anesthesia on the backs of the rats. These rats were divided into two group, a control group (Group C) and an Aloe vera oral administration group (Group A). Each wound area was measured on days 1, 2, 4 and 8 postwounding. The stages of wound granulation tissues were evaluated histopathologically. The expression of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were determined by immunohistochemically. The wounds were significantly contracted in Group A on days 2, 4 and 8 postwounding. Histological results revealed that the inflammatory cell infiltration, angiogenesis, extracellular matrix deposition and epithelialization were promoted in Group A, respectively. The immunohistochemical results revealed that both TGF-β1 and VEGF protein-positive cells increased in Group A on day 4 postwounding. We concluded that Aloe vera oral administration accelerated wound healing in type 2 diabetic rats.

Aloe vera is a medicinal plant with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antidiabetic and immune-boosting properties. In the present study we investigated the inhibitory activities of Aloe vera gel on some cariogenic (Streptococcus mutans), periodontopathic (Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis) and an opportunistic periodontopathogen (Bacteroides fragilis) isolated from patients with dental caries and periodontal diseases. Twenty isolates of each of these bacteria were investigated for their sensitivity to Aloe vera gel using the disk diffusion and microdilution methods. S. mutans was the species most sensitive to Aloe vera gel with a MIC of 12.5 μg/ml, while A. actinomycetemcomitans, P. gingivalis, and B. fragilis were less sensitive, with a MIC of 25-50 μg/ml (P < 0.01). Based on our present findings it is concluded that Aloe vera gel at optimum concentration could be used as an antiseptic for prevention of dental caries and periodontal diseases. 東海大学医学部付属病院リニューアルにおける効率的な手術室運営の実際をハード面から言及した. 手術室を有効に利用するためには, 以下の工夫が必要である. (1)手術室を増やし, 一部の手術室では, 1部屋に2台の手術台を置き, 1人の術者が次々と手術のできる環境を作る, (2)Convertibleな手術室に代表される連続して手術を可能にする手術室の構築, (3)一足制, 手術進捗管理システム等の患者の出し入れをスムーズに行うための工夫, (4)入院医療の外来化および麻酔科医の有効利用, (5)短期入院手術センター (SSSC) を利用した日帰り手術, 短期入院手術化の推進.

Japanese pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) is an important Rosaceous fruit tree in Japan. This species exhibits gametophytic self-incompatibility (GSI), which is controlled by a single S-locus with multiple S-haplotypes. Although GSI is a genetic mechanism to prevent inbreeding and promote outcrossing to maintain genetic diversity, it can be problematic in fruit trees because it causes unstable fruit set. Therefore, orchardists interplant Japanese pear with other lines as pollinizers or conduct artificial pollination to ensure fruit set. To achieve stable fruit production and to reduce or eliminate the need for artificial pollination, research on the GSI of Japanese pear has been conducted by pollination experiments and by characterization of self-compatible (SC) mutants. Additionally, breeding programs have progressed to produce SC cultivars with high fruit quality. Recently, molecular analyses of GSI and SC mutants in Japanese pear have provided new information that is relevant to the stable fruit production and efficient breeding of Japanese pear. This review focuses on studies of the GSI of Japanese pear, and especially on the recent development of DNA markers for S-genotyping and marker-assisted selection of SC trees. In addition, the candidate genes controlling pollen S specificity and a model of the molecular mechanism of GSI in Japanese pear are described.

本研究の目的は、サッカーにおけるインサイドキックのスキルを解明することである。本研究では、モーションキャプチャで計測した身体運動の時系列データをもとに、統計モデルを用いてインサイドキックスキルの決定要因を抽出した。この結果、インサイドキックの誤差(エラー)は、インパクト直後の蹴り足の足部角度にきわめて強く依存しており、この再現性の獲得が正確なインサイドキックのスキル獲得の本質であることが示唆された。発表では、身体運動へのデータマイニング法の応用による「スキルサイエンス」の可能性についても言及したい。

Sacoharomycesに属する産膜酵母によるワイン産膜の現象には功罪の両面がある。一つは産膜病で, ワインの品質が劣化すること, 他の一つはシェリー酵母の産膜で, 良質なシェリー酒が造られることである。今回はこの酵母産膜の機作について, 最近解明された知見を中心に, わかり易く解説していただいた。ワイン関係者はもとより, 酵母細胞表面の構造に興味のある読者に, 大いに参考となろう。
