Lightweight Al-Si alloy is expected as a substitute material for the cast iron of engine parts to improve fuel consumption of automobiles. In this study, the tribological properties of Al-Si alloys against diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were examined to comprehend the influences of Si particles on Al-Si alloy surfaces under lubricated with a fully formulated oil. Sliding tests were performed with a hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) film coated steel cylinder against the five kind of Al-Si alloy disks with different Si contents. Sliding tests and surface analysis results showed that the friction coefficient of a-C:H/Al-Si tribo-pairs depended on the exposure height of Si particles on the Al-Si alloy surfaces rather than the area ratio of Si particles. The exposure height of Si particles plays important roles in determining the frictional properties of a-C:H/Al-Si tribo-pairs under lubrication with the fully formulated oil.

In this paper we propose a 1DOF master-slave system called HandShake Device (HSD). HSD is composed of 2 systems: one is a master system, which is grasped by an operator, the other is a slave system, which grasps the operator's palm. Two HSDs are respectively placed at a local site and a remote site so that people can physically communicate (by shaking hands) each other through HSDs. HSD applies the virtual model method as an algorithm of tele-operation (tele-handshake). HSD was exhibited in SIGGRAPH'95 with Network Neuro Baby (NNB) which is an Artificial Life acting as a network agent in the computer network. HSD is an interface device which an operator can communicate with NNB physically.

<p> テニスにおいては「強い」ボールが打てることが競技力が高いことの一つの条件であると考えられる。本研究において「強い」ボールとは、ボールの速度-回転量グラフにおいてより「右上」(村松ほか2015)に位置するボール、すなわち同じ速度であればより大きな回転量、同じ回転量であればより大きな速度を持つボールのことであると定義する。「弱い」ボールはその逆とする。本研究は、強いボールが相手のショットを弱める効果があるのかどうか、という点について大学トップクラス男子学生テニス選手(1名)を被験者として検討した。ボールマシンから2種類の強さのボールを出し、それに対してフォアハンドグラウンドストロークで打球した。ボールマシンから出たボールと選手が打つボールの速度と回転量を、それぞれスピードガンと高速度カメラ(2000fps)で計測した。その結果、ボールマシンから出たボールが強いと、選手が打つボールが弱くなる傾向が明らかとなった。この原因について考察する。</p>

More and more American multinational corporations (MNCs) are outsourcing the production and assembly of their products to foreign companies. When they do so, they derive the largest share of their revenue from the intellectual property embedded in core technological innovation and brand names. However, conventional trade statistics are compiled based on the value of goods crossing national borders, as declared to customs. Generally, the value added associated with intellectual property rights and embedded in physical goods is not recorded as either export or import of any country. Hence, current trade statistics greatly underestimate US exports and substantially exaggerate its trade deficit. In this paper, we use the case of Apple, the largest American consumer products company, to illustrate the failure of conventional trade statistics to report actual US export capacity in the age of global value chains. According to our analysis of this case, if the value added of Apple intellectual property sold to foreign consumers were counted as part of US exports, total US exports would increase by 3.7%, and its trade deficit would decrease by 7.5%. In terms of bilateral trade, the value added under examination here would lower the US trade deficit with the Greater China region by 6.7% and that with Japan by 9.1%.

情報システムが企業活動において有効に機能するためには,システムが前提としているビジネスプロセスが経営目標,経営戦略の実現に適合していることが必要である.昨今の変化の激しい経営環境の下では,ビジネスプロセスは定常的な機能モデルからダイナミックなプロセスモデルに転換せざるを得ない.こうした中でプロジェクトマネジメント協会(PMI: Project Management Institute)が2003年12月に発表した「組織的プロジェクトマネジメント成熟度モデル(OPM3: Organizational Project Management Maturity Model)」は,プロセス最適化に向けて成熟度評価のリファレンスモデルと継続的改善のフレームワークを提供するものとして興味深い.本論では,OPM3の構成要素について概説するとともに,その将来的な意義について考察する.

In 1991, Uzbekistan declared independence from the SSSR. The resultant transition from a planned economy to a market economy has had an impact on the daily life of ordinary people living in Uzbekistan. People have been experiencing increasingly severe economic conditions on a daily basis, due to the rise in both inflation and unemployment. In contrast, culturally, there has been a revival of "traditional" Uzbekistani skills in the renewed nationalistic climate that emerged following the independence. This paper analyzes the role that carpet weaving plays in the lives of the weavers themselves by focusing on a carpet factory in Khiva, a town in the Khorezm province of Uzbekistan. In Chapter I, I explain the transformation that occurred in the life of Uzbekistani women under Soviet rule. In Chapter II, I explain the historical change that occurred in the carpet industry in Khiva. In Chapter III, based on data obtained through participant observation, I describe the relationships between the weavers working at the factory. In Chapter IV, I analyze the various roles that carpet weaving plays in the lives of the weavers. The conclusion of the study can be summarized in the following points. First, weavers earn a moderate income for weaving at the factory, which they are free to spend as they wish. Second, the relationships between the weavers are comparatively equal. Third, the equal nature of the relationships forged at the factory serve as a model that they can introduce, should they move factories, or establish a new factory. Fourth, the weavers are motivated daily by the enjoyment and satisfaction they derive from weaving carpets.

Japan and Russia are in dispute over the Northern Territories (Etorofu, Kunashiri, Shikotan, and the Habomai Shoto) in the Chishima Archipelago held by Russia since 1945. Although this issue will be solved by the governments of both Japan and Russia, there has also been since 1992 a system of so-called "Interchange without Passports / Visas", or unofficial diplomacy by citizens of Japan and Russia in the Northern Territories. This system has been crowned with great success, especially after the Hokkaido Tohooki Earthquake occurred in 1994. The first group to deliver necessities of life to Russians in Shikotan was not the Russian government, but the group of Japanese former residents. Since that time, the Russian residents have changed their sentiment and now say that they may be able to live a life together there. We can say that this "Interchange without Passports / Visas" has helped to improve their mental infrastructure. This thesis is not only makes use of the academic analysis of the former research, but it is also based on original interviews of former residents, diplomats, Russian residents, and Japanese teachers. Moreover, it reflects the author's own inspection, conducted through participation in the "Interchange without Passports / Visas" in 2005 and 2006.
