文献データベースと電子ジャーナルをリンクするシステムとして,リンクリゾルバが利用されている.本論文では,文献データベース,電子ジャーナル,リンクリゾルバそれぞれのアクセスログを解析することにより,リンクリゾルバの影響の分析を試みた.この結果,データベースの検索結果からリンクリゾルバを経由して幅広い分野の雑誌タイトルに利用者を誘導できる効果が確認できた.このとき,リンクリゾルバは,PNAS やScience,Nature などの総合科学雑誌と比較して分野に特化した雑誌へ多くの利用者を誘導している.特に,Web of Science のような収録範囲の広いデータベースの利用においてこの効果は顕著であり, リンクリゾルバの導入は特定分野の雑誌論文の可視性を高め,利用に結びつける効果があることを明らかにした.

Epidemiology is the study of health-related states or events in specific populations and their determinants, with the aim of controlling health problems. It encompasses various research fields, such as cancer epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, and social epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, environmental epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, spatial epidemiology, and theoretical epidemiology, among others, and is closely related to statistics and biometrics. In analytical epidemiological studies, data is collected from study populations using appropriate study designs, and statistical methods are applied to understand disease occurrence and its causes, particularly establishing causal relationships between interventions or exposures and disease outcomes. This paper focuses on five topics in epidemiology, including infectious disease control through spatial epidemiology, cancer epidemiology using cancer registry data, research about long-term health effects, targeted learning in observational studies, and that in randomized controlled trials. This paper provides the latest insights from experts in each field and offers a prospect for the future development of quantitative methods in epidemiology.

It is not easy to treat patients with intractable Meniere's disease. Intratympanic injection of gentamicin or steroid is one option. The other is a surgical procedure like endolymphatic shunt surgery. Middle ear pressure treatment using the Meniett device, which has not been approved by the Japanese government is widely accepted in foreign countries. We had a chance to use this Meniett device under approval of the ethic's committee of Hino Municipal Hospital since September 2004. ‹Methods› Four patients with intractable Meniere's disease who suffered intensive vertigo attack for more than 5 months with conservative medical treatment were employed in the study. Ages ranged from 67 to 72, with 3 females and 1 male. After a ventilation tube was inserted under local anesthesia, treatment with the Meniett was performed 3 times a day at home. ‹Results› Two patients improved and 2 slightly improved concerning vertigo attacks. One showed no change, 1 experienced a worsening, and 2 showed slight improvement concerning the hearing level. ‹Conclusion› The Meniett device is less invasive and may be suitable for elderly patients who prefer conservative treatment. The mechanism involved in the reduction of vertigo attacks is not clear so far, but we speculate that middle ear pressure may suppress serum vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone) secretion and thereby reduce endolymphatic hydrops. It is necessary to accumulate treatment data with the Meniett in Japan to obtain official approval by the government.

近年における学術情報の急激な電子化、特に一次情報である電子ジャーナルの普及はめざましい。これらの電子情報資源へは、抄録・索引データベースやOPACのような書誌所在データベースの検索結果からリンクリゾルバと呼ばれるツールを介して、自機関で利用可能な電子ジャーナルなどの情報資源へ利用者を適切に誘導することが可能となっている。本稿では、一般的なリンクリゾルバの利用方法に加え、WebブラウザであるFirefoxから直接リンクリゾルバを利用するためのツールや、保有するデータベースから利用者が自機関のリンクリゾルバを利用する手法など、農林水産研究情報総合センターにおけるリンクリゾルバの多面的な活用事例について報告する。

スポーツフィッシングにおいて,勝敗の行方を左右する大きな要因の一つにポイント移動が挙げられる.ポイント移動は「なぜ移動するのか?どこへ移動するのか?」といった問題に対し,状況を総合的に考慮し決断される.このような過程は暗黙的であり,その決断は極めて身体的な感覚によってなされている.本研究では,元プロの湖上での振る舞いを記録し,身体知獲得を支援するツールのデザインを実施した.

The authors studied the likelihood that seeds were being dispersed by the Japanese black bear (<i>Ursus thibetanus japonicus</i>) in a deciduous forest near Ashikawa Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. The forest was composed of 113 tree species. Japanese black bear ate fruits and seeds belonging to 37 species (including 7 unidentified). About 86.7 to 99.7% of seeds identified in 360 samples of bear feces were in good condition for 17 species (10 drupes, 5 berries, 1 multiple fruit of droplets and 1 pome). However, no intact seeds were found for 5 nut species. The germination rate of Yamasakura (<i>Prunus jamasakura</i>) seeds taken from feces was the same as for uneaten seeds. The results of this investigation suggest a high likelihood of seed dispersal by the Japanese black bear.

本稿では,Web上の検索エンジンについて標準的な検索手法になりつつあるOpenSearchについて概説するほか,1)OPACを題材として,図書館システムに標準で用意された検索ページを解析し,タイトル検索のみ可能なシンプルな検索ページへ再構成を図ることで検索に必要な最小限の要素の把握,2)OpenSearch Descriptionファイルを作成し,Firefox上から直接OPACを検索するプラグインの作成,3)作成した検索プラグインの設置とインストール方法について解説する。

血液型検査においてキメラが疑われた症例が見出されたので, HLA-A, B, CとHLA-DRB1のDNAタイピング, マイクロサテライト解析およびフローサイトメトリー解析を用いた確認試験により双生児キメラであることが示唆された. 本症例は, 37歳の男性で, 二卵性双生児の弟がいる. 平成14年9月左橈骨遠位端骨折のため越谷市立病院に入院したが, 輸血歴はない. この症例の末梢血を用いてABO血液型のフローサイトメトリー解析ならびにヨウ化カリウム法で末梢血からDNAを抽出し, マイクロサテライト解析, ABO血液型遺伝子タイピングおよびHLA遺伝子タイピングを実施した. フローサイトメトリー解析の結果, B型血球とAB型血球が90.04%と9.96%の比率で混在していた. すべての遺伝子検査で3種類ないし4種類のアリルが検出された. これらのことから, この症例が双生児キメラであることが示唆された.
