A previous report (Kusakabe, 2011, in Japanese) warned about an interpretation of a scatter diagram with coordinates expressed in the percentages or per capita data. Since most of the social indicators obey the Law of Power Function (Kusakabe, 2011), the scatter diagram of such indicaters in terms of ratio (percentage or per capita) inevitably shows positive or negative spurious correlations in cross section data analysis, irrespective of the causation. These spurious correlations are induced by the population size effect. Here, I will critically examine Putnam's Social Capital Index (SCI) in "Bowling Alone, Part 4." Putnam's SCI is highly correlated with the population size (Fig.12; R=-0.487**). Path analysis shows clear effect of population size on Putnam's SCI (Fig. 15(2)). Thus, Putnam's SCI inevitably induces both spurious correlations with most of the various social indicators and strong bias in his estimates for Social Capital Index. However, if we exclude the population size effect from Putnam's SCI using a regression method,the resulting regression residuals (adjusted SCI or the Regression-based score, R-score, defined by Kusakabe 2002a,b,c in Japanese) almost coincide with a Regression-based score of the number of nonprofit organizations in the United States (Fig.16(1),(2), R=0.663**).Both of the Regression-based scores of Putnam's SCI(adjusted SCI) and those of NPOs significantly correlate with the Regression-based scores of murders (Fig.20(1),21(1); R=-0.776**and -0.605**, respectively). Path analyses on both Putnam's adjusted SCI and R-score for NPOs clearly show the strong effect on the R-score for murders (Fig.20(2),21(2); pass coefficient, -0.776** and -0.605**, respectively). These results disclose firm evidences for "cultural embeddedness" of Social Capital in the United States. Thus, Social Capital, indeed, can be measurable with these Regression -based scores for the number of nonprofit organizations or Putnam's adjusted SCI (Regression-based SCI score).The revised version of Putnam's barometric map of America's Social Capital (Figure 25) is successfully presented in this study in terms of R-score for nonprofit organizations in the United States of America.2013年12月17日PDFファイル更新

分化多能性をもち,その性質を維持したままほぼ無限に増殖させることができる胚性幹細胞,ES細胞は細胞移植治療や創薬試験系への応用に大きな期待が寄せられてきた.しかし,その作製には受精卵が必要になることから倫理的に慎重な運用が求められ,また他家移植となることから免疫拒絶の制御という問題も抱えていた.これらを回避すべく,真に臨床応用可能な幹細胞の開発を目指し,様々な研究が行なわれている.ここでは,その試みから生まれた人工多能性幹細胞,iPS細胞について,樹立までの経緯とそのインパクト,展望について触れたい.

2011年と2012年の2月に行った個人投資家を対象とするインターネットアンケート調査から,個人投資家の投資スタイルによる投資行動とパフォーマンスの違いを多面的に分析した.その結果,(1) 明確な投資スタイルを持つ投資家は大きく2つのグループ(「長期パッシブ分散派」と「短期アクティブ集中派」)に分かれること,(2) 2つのグループを比較すると,長期パッシブ分散派の方が相対的に,投資家間で運用パフォーマンスの差が小さく,投資満足度,幸福感が高く,ストレスや不安が少なく,資産の形成に成功していることが確かめられた.

In order to assess the safety of electronic cigarettes, 32 smokers who consume more than 20 tobacco cigarettes daily were enrolled in the present study. The cartridge of an electronic cigarette contains 0.25 g of glycerin aqueous solution. Each participant was asked to consume one filter cartridge per day (more than 150 puffs per day) for 4 weeks. Following the treatment, no abnormal changes in blood pressure, hematological data, or blood chemistry and no severe adverse events were observed. Although a trace amount of acrolein was detected in the vapor collected from a single filter cartridge, it was less than the minimum amount in the mainstream smoke from a single tobacco cigarette. During the use of the electronic cigarette, the daily consumption of tobacco cigarettes decreased significantly. This electronic cigarette containing glycerin aqueous solution may be a safe alternative to cigarette smoking.

この論文は,観光研究におけるアクター・ネットワーク論的なアプローチ の必然性と可能性を探求する。まず,従来の観光研究における全体論的な視 点の欠如とモノについての考察の不足といった問題点を指摘する。観光地対 観光者という二分法や,イメージ論のような表象分析の枠では,観光実践の 複雑性を十分に研究することができない。ここで,関係の生成変化に注目し, 人やモノ等の断片的な諸要素を,諸関係を構成する対称的なアクターと見て, それらのアクターが織り成すネットワークの動態の過程を把握するアク ター・ネットワーク論に注目する。そして,観光におけるモノの物質性と場 所の多元性の存在を論証し,観光者のような特定のアクターが観光ネット ワークの中で他のアクター(地域イメージ,モノ等)を翻訳し,自らの実践 に導く様相を,先行研究に基づいてまとめる。さらに,中国人の北海道観光 を例として,アクター・ネットワーク論に基づき,個的実践の共有化の過程 と,地域イメージのブラックボックス化の過程をまとめた。最後に,観光研 究へのアクター・ネットワーク論的アプローチを,地域の複数性を提示する 研究として提示してみた。

In the last decade, scientists are expected to present their researches. It is symbolized as the term:"science communications" and "inter-discipline communications." We suggest and explain "PresentationCompetition of Graduate Students" (PCGS). In October 2011, we, Tsukuba Graduate students’Network, conducted PCGS during a university festival and proved its effects. As results, various multidisciplinecommunications have been promoted among University of Tsukuba. In our university, thereare few cases of the collaborated researches which leverage the opportunities that the university hasalmost every discipline. In this paper, we suggest PCGS as a solution of the problems and demonstratethe details about the implementation plans, strategies and results. We also inspect the impacts asevaluations with the interviews of each concerned, e.g. speaker, judge and visitor. We expect that thePCGS will be held at other universities.

小中学校の「調べ学習」や「総合的な学習の時間」において,子ども用百科事典は重要な役割を果たす。『総合百科事典ポプラディア』全12巻は,9年前に刊行され,このたび改訂された日本で唯一の子ども用百科事典である。『ポプラディア』刊行は,子どもたちの「生きる力」,問題解決力を育てる教育のなかで百科事典を望む声が大きくなっていったことを背景としている。『ポプラディア』は五十音順の百科事典である。項目の選定や編集方針をはじめとする製作の過程について解説し,学校図書館における利用について紹介する。さらにデジタル化およびインターネット版「ポプラディアネット」の開発,9年ぶりの改訂について記す。あわせて図書館とインターネットが教育の中で果たしている役割と課題についても触れる。
