Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) solutions were evaluated for their virucidal ability against a low pathogenic avian influenza virus (AIV), H7N1. HOCl solutions containing 50, 100 and 200 ppm chlorine (pH 6) or their sprayed solutions (harvested in dishes placed at 1 or 30 cm distance between the spray nozzle and dish) were mixed with the virus with or without organic materials (5% fetal bovine serum: FBS). Under plain diluent conditions (without FBS), harvested solutions of HOCl after spraying could decrease the AIV titer by more than 1,000 times, to an undetectable level (< 2.5 log10TCID50/ml) within 5 sec, with the exception of the 50 ppm solution harvested after spraying at the distance of 30 cm. Under the dirty conditions (in the presence of 5% FBS), they lost their virucidal activity. When HOCl solutions were sprayed directly on the virus on rayon sheets for 10 sec, the solutions of 100 and 200 ppm could inactivate AIV immediately after spraying, while 50 ppm solution required at least 3 min of contact time. In the indirect spray form, after 10 sec of spraying, the lids of the dishes were opened to expose the virus on rayon sheets to HOCl. In this form, the 200 ppm solution inactivated AIV within 10 min of contact, while 50 and 100 ppm could not inactivate it. These data suggest that HOCl can be used in spray form to inactivate AIV at the farm level.

認知機能の脳内機構を探るには,特定の能力のみが選択的に障害された純粋例が有用である.純粋失音楽症(pure amusia)はこれまでに9例報告され,右上/中側頭回の皮質・皮質下が共通して障害されていた.一方,音楽的情動だけが障害された音楽無感症(musical anhedonia)は,筆者による2例も含め,これまでに5例が報告され,右島後部から上側頭回が主に侵されていた.音楽の知覚・認知が障害されたにも拘わらず,音楽的情動が保たれていた症例が存在することから,両者は少なくとも一部は脳内で異なる神経基盤を有すると考えられる.これらの結果は,過去に報告された脳賦活化実験の所見とも一致している.今後も,症例研究と脳賦活化実験のそれぞれの特徴と限界を理解したうえでの検討が求められる.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the adolescents' attitudes toward gay men and lesbians and to examine the effects of sex and gender-role identity on them. Subjects were 312 (124 male and 188 female) undergraduates. Sixty-three males and 95 females rated the attitudes toward gay men. Sixty-one males and 93 females rated the attitudes toward lesbians. Major findings were as follows: 1. From factor analysis, three factors were extracted: social acceptance, psychological distance, and positive images. 2. As compared with females, males scored lower on social acceptance, higher on psychological distance, and lower on positive images. Especially, males avoided gay men more psychologically than lesbians. 3. Males in high masculinity (HM) accepted gay men less and avoided them more psychologically than males in low masculinity (LM). 4. Females in LM accepted gay men and lesbians less and avoided them more psychologically than females in HM. Females in high femininity (HF) accepted gay men and lesbians less and avoided them more psychologically than females in low femininity (LF). Females in HM imaged gay men and lesbians more positively than females in LM. These findings were discussed in terms of the sex differences of socialization (gender role expectation) and same-sex friendship.

砂糖液の加熱時における火力と最終温度がカラメルソースの色や味とどのような関係にあるかを明らかにするため実験を行い, 次のような知見を得た.1) カラメルソースの濃度は, その仕上がり重量がもとの砂糖重量の1.10~1.15倍がよい.2) 官能検査の結果, 強火では 210~230℃ 加熱のものが色・味ともに評価が高かった.これに該当するのは, 中火では220℃, 弱火では210℃加熱のものであった.3) カラメルの色は弱火で210℃, 中火で220℃, 強火で230℃になると急変しやすく, ばらつきが大きくて再現性に欠ける.4) カラメルソースの色価は 600 前後が適当である.5) カラメルソースの pH は, 加熱温度の上昇とともに低下する.6) 火力は強火よりも弱火のほうが温度が緩慢に上昇し, 低温で着色する.7) カラメルの調製法としては160℃まで強火にし, その後弱火で加熱するのが, 所要時間や調理操作上よいと考えられる.

本稿は、日本教育方法学会第41回大会における筆者の自由研究発表「思春期の性教育における男女別学習と男女合同学習の意味‐スウェーデン王国の事例を参考に‐」(2005年10月2日、鹿児島大学教育学部)の発表時配布資料を一部修正、加筆したものである。社会における男女平等、男女共同参画社会の推進の流れの中で、わが国の小中学校における性教育についても、かつての小学校における女子のみの初経指導と男子の放置という貧弱な性教育の実態への反省もあって、学級において男女合同で性に関する学習を行なうことが望ましいと考える関係者が多いのではないかと思われる。しかし、思春期特有の性に関する強い羞恥心と児童生徒の自らの性のprivacyを守りたいという正当な要求に配慮するならば、学習過程で男女別学習を組み込むことが効果的である場合もある。このことを日本とスウェーデンの実践事例の検討を通じて考察した。但し、性の学習における「男女」という二区分は、性自認や性志向におけるマイノリティの立場にある児童生徒がクラスに存在する場合には、却って弊害をもたらす場合もあり、当事者との協議を含む慎重な対応が必要である。

It is not so widely known that various kinds of marble had been quarried in Japan as building stone. Marble quarries were active in Japan until about the end of 1960's. Those marbles have been used for the interior finishing of many historic buildings in Tokyo. This is the investigation report on the domestic building stones used for the interiors (mantlepieces) in some of the historic western style houses in Tokyo, designed by Josiah Conder. The houses are: the Former Iwasaki Residence, the Former Shimazu Residence, and the Former Furukawa Residence. Completion of the houses was between 1896 to 1917. Provenance of the marble of the mantlepieces was identified non-destructively. Marbles from Ibaraki Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and Tokyo Metropolis were identified. The result showed that quarrying of those marbles was active during those years. The investigation is significant for understanding the history of the use and logistics of building stones in Japan, which leads to righteous assessment of the cultural heritage.

本研究ではオレゴン州スプリングフィールド市憲章,コロラド州憲法第2修正およびシンシナティ市条例という3つの同性愛差別法へのアメリカ図書館協会の反対運動に焦点を当て,図書館専門職団体としての協会の社会的責任をめぐる議論を検討した。差別法に対する協会の姿勢は明確であり,一貫して同性愛差別法への対抗的活動を行った。また同性愛差別を図書館専門職の問題として認識し,反差別に取り組むことが協会内で了解されていた。考察の結果,専門職団体としての協会は同性愛者保護を専門職の価値観に内包していたことが明らかになった。
