This paper proposes the evaluation method of seismic performance of shear resisting elements in timber construction with shear walls. Proposed new evaluation method uses two parameters of horizontal stiffness and potential energy of the shear walls. These two design values provide horizontal damage limit and safety limit strengths of stories that have equal quality to those by the summation of load-deformation curves of the shear walls. These strengths by this method have less variety than those by existing simple evaluation method. This method also provides Ds values of stories that consist of different type of shear walls. Ds values of the stories have not been provided by the existing simple evaluation method. Precise safety limit strengths and Ds-values of the stories realize to apply horizontal load-carrying capacity design method for the structures with different type of shear walls. This evaluation method would be possible to apply for other structures than the timber construction as a simplified method.

Although rabies still kills many people, the global eradication of human rabies is considered to be feasible. Progress towards eradication may differ among regions with differing socio-economic statuses; therefore, states that successfully eradicate this disease must be vigilant for rabies re-emergence. Here, we discuss challenges that remain concerning current rabies prevention measures and risk assessment results concerning possible rabies introduction and spread in rabies-free Japan. We summarize the preventative measures undertaken by representative rabies-free countries and regions. Our risk assessment results show that the risk of rabies reintroduction under current circumstances is very low, and that subsequent spread of the disease would be minimal because of quite low value of basic reproduction number. Similar assessments conducted in other rabies-free areas also showed limited risks of introduction. The majority of rabies-free countries maintain their rabies-free status through strict import quarantine of carnivorous animals, efficient surveillance of animal rabies including wildlife, quick emergency responses, and raising public awareness of the disease. To maintain the current rabies-free status in Japan, we strongly recommend maintaining the current quarantine system and reinforcing stakeholder compliance for those involved in international movement of dogs. Moreover, sustainable surveillance systems targeting wildlife are indispensable.

我が国の航空政策は1980年代から規制緩和として運賃設定の自由化等が進められてきた.2000年以降はLCCと呼ばれる新規航空会社の参入等が積極的に進められてきたが,その影響を定量的に評価した研究は少なく,特に2000年以降の影響は明らかとなっていない.本研究では2000年までの影響を評価した既往の研究をベースに,2000年以降の規制緩和の影響について,レガシーキャリアのネットワーク,正規運賃,路線距離と運賃の関係,モデル分析による実効運賃水準の時系列変化等に着眼点し,航空会社の収益状況 とあわせて定量的に分析することを目的とする.分析の結果,2000年以降,レガシーキャリアの正規運賃の上昇,地方路線網の衰退などの負の影響が明らかとなった.また,正規運賃の上昇に反し,実効運賃水準の上昇が確認されない結果も得られた.

1. 錦川上流域, 錦町付近に生息するアマゴについて得られた標本を調査し, その分布, 成長, 成熟およびアマゴ, 降海型アマゴ, 溯河マスの相互関係を明らかにした。2. 鱗による年令査定の結果, 年令の形成完了時期は11-12月で, 無輪のものは当才魚1輪のものは2年魚, 2輪のものは3年魚である。3. 降海型アマゴおよび溯河マスの各部形態, 鱗の形状および朱点を有する点でアマゴと差が認め難い。従ってこれら三者の関係は早栗によるサクラマスとヤマメの関係同様で, 溯河マス, アマゴの雌雄から降海型アマゴおよびアマゴがそれぞれ出現するものと考えられる。溯河マスは大島のビワマスの降海型と一致する。4. 降海型アマゴは満1年経過後の12-3月に産卵生息域である支流から錦川本流に降河し, 体表が銀白化する。このアマゴは5-7月に錦町付近に溯上しマスと呼ばれる。降河と溯河の時期から考えると海中生活の期間は2-3ケ月である。アマゴでも降下, 溯上は見られるが, 海までは降下しないと思われる。5. アマゴの成長は満1年で最大尾叉長16.3cm, 満2年で20cm, 2年6ケ月で24.0cmである。降海型アマゴでは満1年2ケ月で18cm, 1年8ケ月で30cmでニジマスより優れた成長を示す。6. アマゴならびに溯河マスの成熟は雌雄とも満2年であり, アマゴの雄では満1年で成熟するものもある。7. アマゴでは雌雄とも産卵放精後生き残るものがある。

To computationally investigate the recent experimental finding such that extracellular ATP release caused by exogeneous mechanical forces promote wound closure, we introduce a mathematical model, the Cellular Potts Model (CPM), which is a popular discretized model on a lattice, where the movement of a “cell” is determined by a Monte Carlo procedure. In the experiment, it was observed that there is mechanosensitive ATP release from the leading cells facing the wound gap and the subsequent extracellular Ca2+ influx. To model these phenomena, the Reaction-Diffusion equations for extracellular ATP and intracellular Ca2+ concentrations are adopted and combined with CPM, where we also add a polarity term because the cell migration is enhanced in the case of ATP release. From the numerical simulations using this hybrid model, we discuss effects of the collective cell migration due to the ATP release and the Ca2+ influx caused by the mechanical forces and the consequent promotion of wound closure.

The image studied here is very rare in terms of iconography, as everyone, including Amitābha, is represented by the figure of a Bodhisattva. Amitābha is represented by the figure of the chief of the Pure Land.Also, while the contour line of the central Buddha was lost its vitality, those of the left and right Bodhisattva have freedom. The latter are reminiscent of the Amida-25-bosatsu-raigō-zu (阿弥陀二十五菩薩来迎図) (National Treasure), owned by the Chion-in (知恩院) . In other words, the time of production of this picture is can be place in the second quarter of the 14th century.Meanwhile, while the central Buddha has the characteristics of the Southern Song Dynasty of China, the left and right Bodhisattvas are full of Japanese elements.That is, the model of this painting was a Southern Song painting with only Amitābha painted in order for a dying person to image the moment of going to Pure Land as soon as possible to meet Amitābha. With this South Song painting as their model, the Tendai-Sanmon (天台山門) artists daringly added 2 Bodhisattva to promote their understanding that Raigō (来迎) precedes Ōjō (往生), and produced this picture.

Management of wild mammals in urban green areas is a growing issue of concern in Japan, because some dangerous mammals have begun to use such areas as habitats or travel pathways. We investigated the mammal fauna in the linear green area located within the urban zone of Kanazawa City, Japan between June and December 2018. Using camera traps, we observed 11 mammal species or species-groups in the green area, the majority of which were medium-sized facultative omnivores. The long forest edge of the green area may have had positive effects on the otherwise low population-carrying capacity for some species. Large mammals did not inhabit the green area permanently, but the area may function as a travel pathway for these species into the city center. Further studies are required to clarify the essential characteristics of the green area, which harbors the mammal fauna revealed by the present survey, and to develop concrete management plans.

国立公園では,利用者の増加に伴い野生生物とのトラブルや環境悪化など様々な問題が生じている.今回我々は,大雪山国立公園内の岩塊堆積地に生息するエゾナキウサギ(Ochotona hyperborea yesoensis)の生息地において,散乱しているごみの存在に気づいた.そこで利用客が多く訪れる生息地を対象に,ごみの数や品目を明らかにすることを目的として,目視による回収調査を実施した.2021年7月30日から8月6日にかけて,大雪山国立公園内の5地点(十勝岳望岳台探勝路・駒止湖・東ヌプカウシヌプリ・白雲山・岩石山)で計11.2時間(平均2.2 h/地点)探索し,合計26個のごみを発見した(発見効率2.3個/h).これらのうちプラスチック製品が多くを占め,空き缶やタバコの空き箱も含まれた.ごみは岩の隙間に落ちているケースが多く,いずれもエゾナキウサギの観察を目的としたレクリエーション時に由来すると推察された.20年以上の長期にわたり残存し続けてきたと思われる缶ごみもあり,周辺環境へ化学物質が溶出している可能性も疑われる.今後のより良い公園利用のために,関係行政主導の定期的な清掃や利用者意識を高める働きかけはもちろん,ごみに気づいた者が率先して持ち帰るような互助的行動の普及が望まれる.

A survey of mammal fauna using a total 26 automatic digital camera traps on an abandoned railway and a series of tunnels belonging to the former Japanese National Railway was conducted from March 2, 2015 to December 19, 2019 in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture in Central Japan. A total of 74,807 informative photographs were obtained over 41,052 camera days. Of the 15 mammals that were photo-captured, the most frequently photographed was Sus scrofa (relative abundance index: 15.1 photographs/100 camera-days), followed by Paguma larvata (6.2), Felis catus (5.6), Vulpes vulpes (1.4), Nyctereutes procyonoides (1.2), Lepus brachyurus (0.7), Martes melampus (0.2), Procyon lotor (0.2), Capricornis crispus (0.2), Cervus nippon (0.1), Mustela sp. (0.1), Sciurus lis (< 0.1), Macaca fuscata (< 0.1), Meles anakuma (< 0.1), Myocastor coypus (< 0.1), in order. The study area, which is located in the eastern foothills of Aichi Prefecture, supports populations of local wildlife species that are representative of medium- and large–sized mammals (S. scrofa, V. vulpes, N. procyonoides and L. brachyurus, M. melampus, C. crispus, and C. nippon) and is considered to contribute positively towards the conservation of regional biodiversity. Since the activity of S. scrofa and the administrators of the abandoned railway and tunnels overlap during the twilight hours (i.e., one hour before and after sunrise and sunset), caution is necessary to prevent encounters between S. scrofa and humans.

Roadkill associated with transportation infrastructure exerts a negative impact on the natural environment and driving; hence, it should be prevented to conserve wildlife and promote safe driving. In this study, drivers in Tottori Prefecture were surveyed regarding their recognition and attitudes toward roadkill. The survey was conducted in September 2020, and online questionnaires were collected from 500 respondents aged 20 to 60. A total of 406 respondents (81.2%) answered that they know what roadkill is and that they had seen it most commonly on roads. More than 90% of those who were aware of roadkill felt that roadkill should not occur, primarily out of sympathy for animals and traffic accident danger. In addition, there was a difference in consciousness depending on the animal species. Roadkill prevention consciousness for large mammals stemmed from a concern to avoid driving dangers, while the reason given for preventing endangered species from becoming roadkill was the need for conservation. Many respondents thought that amphibians, reptiles, and insects are small and collisions are inevitable. Also, more than 80% of respondents thought that roadkill is a problem for both humans and animals. This information on drivers' attitudes toward roadkill prevention in Tottori Prefecture is valuable as a resource for roadkill policies in the future.
