Characteristics of flow fields produced by a dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator in quiescent air are numerically investigated. A time-dependent localized body-force distribution is utilized to mimic the effect of the plasma actuator with modulated bursts. The computed time-averaged and instantaneous flow fields are compared with the experimental results by using high-speed schlieren photography and particle image velocimetry. The computed flow fields are in good agreement with the experimental results when the nondimensional parameter (Dc) is within the appropriate range. With an appropriate choice of Dc, the location and size of the induced flow structures, computed with respect to the maximum flow velocity parallel to the wall, are quantitatively in agreement with the experimental results. Also considered are the effects of the burst frequency (non-dimensionalized by the chord length and the free-stream velocity of assumed separated flow control experiment) on the induced flow. The results show that changes in the burst frequency cause insignificant changes in the magnitude of the time-averaged flow parallel to the wall, but they cause significant fluctuations in the amplitude and power spectral densities of that flow.

不定愁訴に基づき身体科をいくつもかかる患者の中には,自閉症スペクトラム障害(ASD)と思われる一群がいる.こうしたASD患者の特徴をアスペルガー障害の男性症例を提示して考察した.まずASD患者は,基本的に身体過敏性をもち,さらにコミュニケーション障害を含む社会性の障害からくる不適応による症状の身体化,そしてそれを強固なものとする症状へのこだわりをもつ.筆者らはこれをASD患者の「身体化の三重構造」と呼ぶこととした.この「身体化の三重構造」のために,ASD患者の身体症状が遷延化しやすく,結果として身体科を不要に受診し続けやすい.こうした患者への対応では,患者と治療者の関係性を意識的,積極的に良好に保つこと,彼らの過敏性などの特性についての認識を共有すること,コミュニケーションの中であいまいな表現は極力避け,ときには断定的な表現を用いるなどの工夫が必要であることを指摘した.

An intact, male mixed-breed cat approximately 3 months of age was referred to Iwate University Veterinary Teaching Hospital with dysuria that developed after a traffic accident. At the initial visit, a cystostomy tube was placed as a temporal urinary diversion. Antegrade urethrography revealed severe stenosis of the intrapelvic urethra. A prepubic urethrostomy (PPU) with formation of a convex urethral stoma was performed 22 days after the first visit. Twenty-four months after surgery, the cat could urinate smoothly in a standing position, although a small amount of intermittent leakage was observed immediately after getting up. There was no evidence of peristomal dermatitis. Therefore, the formation of a convex urethral stoma may effectively prevent peristomal dermatitis in cats who undergo PPU.

This study aimed to prospectively assess nasopharyngeal luminal changes in brachycephalic dogs without respiratory signs using cervical radiography. Forty brachycephalic dogs without cardiopulmonary diseases were included. The nasopharyngeal luminal change was calculated on inspiratory and expiratory cervical lateral radiographs. The median nasopharyngeal luminal change was 21.6% (range, 0.3–85.6%). In five dogs, a nasopharyngeal luminal change of >50% was identified. There was no correlation between nasopharyngeal luminal changes and age, sex, body weight, or body condition score. These results suggest that brachycephalic dogs without cardiopulmonary diseases may be over-diagnosed with partial pharyngeal collapse. Further studies comparing nasopharyngeal luminal changes between clinically healthy brachycephalic dogs and dogs with respiratory signs are warranted.

ミジンコは環境に応じて異なった生殖戦略をとることが知られている。適切な環境下では、単為生殖によりメスがメスを産むことにより急速に増殖する一方で、個体密度の上昇、餌の枯渇、日照時間の短縮、水温の低下など、その生存環境が悪化した場合には生殖戦略は単為生殖から有性生殖へと変化する。この有性生殖においてはまずメスがオスを産生し、このオスと交尾したメスは耐久卵と呼ばれる特殊な卵を産生する。この耐久卵は長期の乾燥にも耐えることから、生存戦略上有利に働いていると考えられる。特に個体密度が上昇した場合に生殖戦略が変化することは、ミジンコがその個体密度を何らかの方法で感知していることを示唆している。すなわち微生物などでよく知られ研究が進んでいるクオラムセンシングに類似したシステムがミジンコにおいても存在している可能性がある。このセンシングシステムの実態を明らかにするために、耐久卵を人工的に産生する条件を設定し解析を行った。耐久卵をつくる割合についていくつかの系統のミジンコについて検討を行い、ベルギー由来のミジンコが高率で耐久卵をつくることを明らかにした。およそ10Lの水槽でミジンコを一定時間培養し、過密状態になるまで飼育し耐久卵の産生を誘導した。耐久卵を高頻度で産生した水槽から飼育水を回収し、固相法により抽出を行った。生理活性については、通常はオス産生かおきない濃度で培養したミジンコの飼育水に溶出画分を添加することにより評価した。その結果、高密度でミジンコを培養した飼育水には、オス産生を誘導するインデューサーの存在が示唆された。さらにこの物質の同定を目指して、より大きな水槽を用いて培養を行い、オス産生誘導成分の精製を進めた。現時点では最終的な画分に至らないものの、バイオアッセイ法と部分精製法を確立したことから最終的な画分まで精製をすすめ最終的にその物質の同定をめざしている。

In multi-attribute decision making, the similarity, attraction, and compromise effects warrant specific investigation as they cause violations of principles in rational choice. In order to investigate these three effects simultaneously, we assigned 145 undergraduates to three context effect conditions. We requested them to solve the same 20 hypothetical purchase problems, each of which had three alternatives described along two attributes. We measured their choices, confidence ratings, and response times. We found that manipulating the third alternative had significant context effects for choice proportions and confidence ratings in all three conditions. Furthermore, the attraction effect was the most prominent with regard to choice proportions. In the compromise effect condition, although the choice proportion of the third alternative was high, the confidence rating was low and the response time was long. These results indicate that the relationship between choice proportions and confidence ratings requires further theoretical investigation. They also suggest that a combination of experimental and modeling studies is imperative to reveal the mechanisms underlying the context effects in multi-attribute, multi-alternative decision making.

赤血球の主要膜内在性蛋白質であるバンド3は、従来、生命推持に必須とされてきた。本研究は、黒毛和種牛の遺伝性バンド3欠損症における知見をもとに、この定説の妥当性を検討し、代償機構を解明することを目的とする。得られた成果の概要は以下のとおりである。1)遺伝子型と赤血球表現型との解析により原因遺伝子異常がR664X変異であること、本疾患が優性遺伝形式をとることを実証した。2)赤血球膜病態の解析に基づき、ホモ接合型とヘテロ接合型の赤血球球状化機序が異なること、即ち、前者ではバンド3-アンキリンースペクトリン間結合の消失が、後者では変異バンド3のドミナント・ネガティプ作用によるバンド3減少がそれぞれ球状化の原因となることを示した。これらの知見から膜骨格の形成とバンド3の生合成とが独立した現象であり、バンド3は膜骨格形成には不要であるが、その後の膜安定化に必須であることを提唱した。3)バンド3完全欠損赤血球には本来は前駆細胞のみにみられるバンド3の構造類似体AE2によるアニオン輸送能が存在することを解明した。さらに、迅速なアニオン輪送は全く代償さえておらず、バンド3によるアニオン輪送は平常時のガス交換に必須の要索ではないことを実証した。

娯楽の発展によって人々が歌う機会が増えてきた。カラオケの採点の登場などから上手に歌いたいと思う人が多いことも事実である。そこで本研究では裏声を出すことができ、音痴ではない男性を対象にした歌唱力向上メソッドを提案する。歌唱力は大きく分けて「音程」「リズム」「発声」と3つの要素に分けることができる。その中でも「発声」はカラオケの採点でもあまり重視されていない。そのことからJPOPの歌唱発声において必要不可欠であるミックスボイスの習得を目的とする。ミックスボイスは表声と裏声のコントロールが自由にできることが前提であることから、表声と裏声を上手に扱えるようになるための練習メソッドを考案し、メソッドに沿って練習を進めていく。メソッドごとの可否判定についてはスペクトル及びスペクトルグラムから判定できるようなシステムを提案する。

法哲学者は教育学者の仕事に不案内である。従って、筆者の尾高朝雄をめぐる評価(以下「尾高論」という)も、これまでは法哲学者としての側面のみに注目し、検討を進めてきた観を否めない。ところが、教育学の世界に目を転ずると、そこには、文部省著作教科書『民主主義』の筆者に携わった尾高を取り上げる、もうひとつの尾高論が存在したのである。小論の目的は、そうした理論状況を受けて、一方に与して、他方を排するという方法に陥ることなく、尾高という学究について総合的立体的に考察することの意義を明確にすると同時に、これからの尾高論の進むべき途を開拓することに存する。
