[Purpose] To determine the efficacy of high intensity laser therapy (HILT) versus pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea. [Subjects and Methods] This was a randomized clinical trial that included 52 girls diagnosed with primary dysmenorrhea and who were assigned randomly into two groups of equal numbers. The treatment was three sessions every cycle for three consecutive cycles where group (A) included those participants treated with HILT 15 min/session and group (B) those who were treated with PEMF 30 min/session. All patients were evaluated before starting the treatment as well as after the end of treatment by present pain intensity scale and the prostaglandin level in blood and pain relief scale at the end of treatment for both groups. [Results] The results showed a significant decrease in the severity of pain, statistically significant decrease in prostaglandin level in blood, and a statistically significant pain alleviation in both groups. With comparison between both groups there was a statistically significant decrease in the severity of pain, significant decrease in the blood levels of PGF2α, in group (A) than group (B). [Conclusion] Both HILT and PEMF are effective in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea with HILT being superior to PEMF.

To date, many studies concerned with intrinsic motivation in humans and artificial agents based on a reinforcement learning framework have been conducted. However, these studies have rarely explained the correspondence between intrinsic motivation and other essential cognitive functions. This study aims to build a method to express curiosity in new environments via the ACT-R (Adaptive Control of Thought-Rational) cognitive architecture. To validate the effectiveness of this proposal, we implement several models of varying complexity using the method, and we confirm that the model’s behavior is consistent with human learning. This method focuses on the“ production compilation” and ”utility” modules, which are generic functions of ACT-R. It regards pattern matching with the environment as a source of intellectual curiosity. We prepared three cognitive models of path planning representing different levels of thinking. We made them learn in multiple-breadth maze environments while manipulating the strength of intellectual curiosity, which is a type of intrinsic motivation. The results showed that intellectual curiosity in learning an environment negatively affected the model with a shallow level of thinking but was influential on the model with a deliberative level of thinking. We consider the results to be consistent with the psychological theories of intrinsic motivation. Furthermore, we implemented the model using a conventional reinforcement learning agent and compared it with the proposed method.

Objectives: This study aimed to clarify the effect of an intervention using a head-mounted display with a web camera set at a modified pitch angle on spatial awareness, sit-to-stand movement, and standing balance in patients with left and right hemisphere damage.Methods: The participants were 12 patients with right hemisphere damage and 12 patients with left hemisphere damage. The line bisection test, a sit-to-stand movement, and balance assessment were performed before and after the intervention. The intervention task involved pointing at targets 48 times in an upward bias condition.Results: Significant upward deviation on the line bisection test was noted in patients with right hemisphere damage. The load on the forefoot during the sit-to-stand movement was significantly increased. The range of anterior–posterior sway during forward movement in the balance assessment was reduced.Conclusions: An adaptation task performed in an upward bias condition may produce an immediate effect on upward localization, sit-to-stand movement, and balance performance in patients with right hemisphere stroke.

行政と市民の連携が叫ばれている昨今、その両者が日ごろから情報を共有し、自治体経営に関して同じ問題意識を持つ必要性が高まっている。それゆえに、行政と市民を繋ぐ広報広聴制度の重要性が増している。本研究では、特に行政の広聴制度に着目し、この制度を参加者流動型と参加者固定型の二つに分類して、その現状について報告する。そして、今回は横浜市の実列を紹介しながら、広聴制度とICT の関係や今後の課題について考察する。

本研究は,着メロから着うた・着うたフルへと日本の有料音楽配信サービス市場が転換する局面に着目し,ネオ制度派組織論を起点とするメガマーケティング概念を活用して,組織フィールドにおける多主体の制度的実践について分析を行った.定性分析からは,複数の制度的実践による揺さぶりが明らかになり,得られた分析結果をもとに,定量分析によって市場の断絶と創造における制度的実践の成果について検証を行った.

Objectives: In this study, we applied novel nasal filters to assess animal allergen exposure of veterinary staff during their normal daily routine. Methods: Rhinix nasal filters were worn during work by 94 employees at different veterinary practices and 18 employees at a research institute, who acted as controls representing an animal-free environment. Contact with animals and the activities performed were documented by the study participants using a short questionnaire. Major allergens of cats (Fel d 1), dogs (Can f 1), and domestic mites (DM) were measured using fluorescence enzyme immunoassays. Results: At the practices, Can f 1 was detected in 98%, Fel d 1 in 82%, and DM allergens in 39% of the samples. Allergens were also detected in some control samples (6% for Can f 1, 39% for Fel d 1, and 17% for DM) but in very low concentrations. There was a highly significant difference between allergen levels in veterinary workers who treated at least one cat or dog during the sampling period and those who did not (2.66 vs. 0.70 ng/filter for Can f 1 and 1.01 vs. 0.20 ng/filter for Fel d 1). The amount of sampled Fel d 1 increased significantly with increasing duration of contact with cats. This effect was not observed for Can f 1. Conclusions: The majority of veterinary workers are exposed to dog and cat allergens, even without direct contact with these animals. Rhinix nasal filters may be considered a simple and easily applicable method for monitoring personal allergen exposure.

四食思想に関して、近代の仏教研究論文において論及がなされたのは、木村泰賢著「原始仏教思想論」が最初であり、本格的な考察は宮坂宥勝著「仏教の起源」においてなされたと言えよう。「仏教の起源」の論考は原始仏教を中心となされているが、拙論においては阿毘達磨を中心とし、原始仏教や唯識仏教とも比較して考察を進める事とする。

Sun Wukong 孫悟空, Zhu Bajie 猪八戒 and Sha Wujing 沙悟浄 were disciples of Sanzang Fashi 三蔵法師 in the Ming dynasty novel The Journey to the West 西遊記. Many mysteries remain regarding their roots. This article points out that some of the real disciples of Xuanzang 玄奘 (602–664) were their models.The model of Sun Wukong can be found in the Gaochang 高昌 native Ma Xuenchi 馬玄智 who delivered Xuanzang’s letter from Khotan 于闐 to Emperor Taizong 太宗 of Chang’an 長安, and in the exotic-looking attendant in Xuanzang’s portrait. The two may be the same person. He became a “monkey practitioner” 猴行者 in the Song dynasty novel The Narrative Story of Acquisition of Sūtras by Sanzang of the Great Tang Dynasty 大唐三蔵取経詩話 and a monkey-faced attendant in the painting of Acquisition of Sūtras by the Tang Monk 唐僧取経図 found in the Anxi Yulin Grottoes 安西楡林窟 during the same period.The model of Zhu Bajie is considered to be Xuanzang’s disciple Kuiji 窺基 (632–682). According to the Song Biographies of Eminent Monks 宋高僧伝, he traveled with women and food in carriages and was called the “Three Carriages Monk” 三車和尚. Given his image of greed and amorousness, he was fused with a boar (or pig) pulling the chariot of Marīcī 摩利支天 in The Journey to the West of the Yuan Dynasty 元本西遊記. In The Journey to the West, critical Edition by Yang Donglai 楊東来先生批評西遊記 of the Ming dynasty, he calls himself “General Carriage” 御車将軍, a subordinate of Marīcī.The model for Sha Wujing is the Great God 大神 dreamed by Xuanzang, when he was in distress in the desert. He was called “Shensha God” 深沙神 in the Song Dynasty novel The Narrative Story of Acquisition of Sūtras by Sanzang of the Great Tang Dynasty, but in The Journey to the West of the Yuan Dynasty he came to be known as “Sha Monk” 沙和尚. His level of divinity was demoted from god to monk because of the appearance of Zhu Bajie, which was modeled after Kuiji, and the image of Wŏnch’uk 円測 (613–696), a rival of Kuiji was superimposed.

自殺は本邦の大きな社会問題の1つである.一時期は3万人を超えていた自殺者は,国や地方自治体による積極的な対策もあり2万人程まで減少したものの,若年層の自殺の微増やコロナ禍での女性自殺者の増加など依然として多くの課題が残る.自殺や自殺に発展する可能性の高い自傷では,医療者を含めたクライエントの周囲の人が持つ誤解や偏見,それに基づく対応などが問題となる.ゆえに,自殺・自傷行為に対する正しい知識や適切に状況に応じて対応するスキルは医療者にとって必須である.本稿では,作業療法士が自殺や自傷経験のあるクライエントに介入・支援する際に必要だと考えられる自殺や自傷の基礎知識と予防および介入について述べる.

症例は55歳男性,自殺企図で左前胸部に包丁が刺さって倒れている患者が発見され救急搬送された.エコーで左血胸と診断され,胸腔ドレナージを行った.CT検査を行ったところ,包丁が左肺を貫通し左下肺静脈に包丁先端が位置している所見であった.心嚢液はなく,人工心肺準備下に左開胸での肺切除と左下肺静脈の損傷があれば修復する方針で,仰臥位として,手術を開始した.大腿動静脈を剥離していたところ,急激な血圧低下をきたした.ただちに人工心肺を確立し,胸骨正中切開を行い,出血部位を観察すると左室側壁長軸方向に5 cm程度の損傷があり,拍動性に出血していた.心室細動下に修復術と左肺上葉舌区部分切除を行った.術後経過は良好で第25病日紹介病院へ転院となった.胸部鋭的損傷の場合,心嚢液貯留がなく,一見安定した血行動態であっても,心血管損傷による血行動態の破綻の可能性も考慮し,人工心肺を準備した上での加療が重要である.

本ノートでは、笑いを主旨とするイグノーベル賞受賞作品に関し、日本の業績の定性分析と定量分析を行う。その結果を参照しつつ、「笑いを含むイノベーション」を考察することを目的とする。 定性分析については、笑いの諸理論を援用して受賞作品の特徴を抽出する。まず、その諸理論の解釈を行うとともに、理論間の関係を調べる。次に、その中の価値論を取り上げて、価値の構造を図式化する。その構造表現を援用しつつ日本人による受賞作品を解釈する。また、笑いの感情の誘発要件に言及するとともに、その誘発モデルを提案する。 定量分析については、受賞数を国別に求め、日本が先進国の中でも高い業績を有する国であることを述べる。 また、日本のビジネスを中心にして、今後のイノベーションを考察する。多くのイグノーベル賞受賞作品が「イノベーション」を志向していることを述べるとともに、「笑いを含むイノベーション」を図る際の留意点をまとめる。そして、STEM(理工学)の拡張として、「笑い(Laughter)を含むイノベーションSTLEAM」を図ることを事例提案している。

Starch is comprised of very large α-glucan molecules composed primarily of linear amylose and highly branched amylopectin. Most methods for analyses of starch structure use hydrolytic enzymes to cleave starch. When undegraded, whole starch structures can be analyzed by gel-permeation chromatography (GPC), but this typically yields a single peak each for amylopectin and amylose. The objective of this study was to stably separate amylopectins in whole starch based on their molecular weight using GPC, and to determine the structure of each peak. When alkali-gelatinized whole starch was applied to GPC columns (Toyopearl HW75S×2, HW65S and HW55S), it was separated into three peaks. Iodine staining and chain length distribution analyses of debranched samples showed that peaks were mainly composed of high-molecular weight (MW) amylopectin consisting of many clusters, low-MW amylopectin consisting of a small number of clusters, and amylose.

Woody biomass is anticipated to be a resource for a decarbonized society, but the difficulty of isolating woody components is a significant challenge. Brown-rot fungi, a type of wood rotting fungi, decompose hemicellulose particularly efficiently. However, there are few reports on the hemicellulases from brown-rot fungi. An α-L-arabinofuranosidase belonging to glycoside hydrolase family 51 (GH51) from the brown-rot fungus Gloeophyllum trabeum (GtAbf51A) was cloned and characterized in the present study. Analyses of the phylogeny of GH51 enzymes in wood rotting fungi revealed the existence of two groups, intercellular and extracellular enzymes. After deglycosylation, the recombinant GtAbf51A produced by Pichia pastoris appeared on SDS-PAGE as approximately 71,777 daltons, which is the expected molecular weight based on the amino acid sequence of GtAbf51A. Maximum enzyme activity occurred between pH 2.2 and 4.0 and at 50°C, while it was stable between pH 2.2 and 10.0 and up to 40°C. Due to the presence of a signal peptide, GtAbf51A was thought to hydrolyze polysaccharide containing arabinose. However, the hydrolysis rate of arabinosyl linkages in polysaccharides was only 3%–4% for arabinoxylan and 17% for arabinan. GtAbf51A, in contrast, efficiently hydrolyzed arabinoxylooligosaccharides, particularly O-α-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1→3)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-Dxylopyranose, which is the principal product of GH10 β-xylanase. These data suggest that GtAbf51A cooperates with other xylan-degrading enzymes, such as β-xylanase, to degrade xylan in nature.

Algal sulfated polysaccharides are known to be effective hyaluronidase inhibitors. We evaluated hyaluronidase inhibitory activity of sulfated polysaccharide (SP) from Caulerpa lentillifera. Results showed that SP with IC50 of 163 μg/mL appears to allosterically inhibit the hyaluronidase activity. Main sugar composition and sulfate content of SP was estimated to be Gal, Glc, Xyl, Man, uronic acids and sulfate in the weight percent of 27.7: 28.9: 14.6: 22.5: 3.4: 21.7. We modified the SP by desulfation and partial hydrolysis with trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) to investigate the effect of sulfate content and molecular weight on inhibition. Hyaluronidase inhibitory activity of desulfated SP, 0.1 M TFA-hydrolyzed SP and 0.5 M TFA-hydrolyzed SP were significantly lower than that of native SP, revealing that sulfate content or molecular weight is important for hyaluronidase inhibition.
