We present a fast algorithm for probabilistically extracting significant locations from raw GPS data based on data point density. Extracting significant locations from raw GPS data is the first essential step of algorithms designed for location-aware applications. Most current algorithms compare spatial/temporal variables with given fixed thresholds to extract significant locations. However, the appropriate threshold values are not clearly known in priori, and algorithms with fixed thresholds are inherently error-prone, especially under high noise levels. Moreover, they do not often scale in response to increase in system size since direct distance computation is required. We developed a fast algorithm for selective data point sampling around significant locations based on density information by constructing random histograms using locality-sensitive hashing. Theoretical analysis and evaluations show that significant locations are accurately detected with a loose parameter setting even under high noise levels.

En accordant une place nouvelle aux ouvrages de Georges Hardy, administrateur colonial de la premiere moitie du XXe siecle, cet article reconstitue la relation entre le colonialisme francais et l'art en Afrique noire. Sur la base de l'interet tant pour le contexte qui lui etait contemporain que pour la perspective, Hardy affirme qu'il reste des possibilites de renouvellement des <<arts indigenes>> malgre leur disparition brutale apres l'installation de la domination europeenne. Dans son livre L'Art negre en 1927, il identifie les influences europeennes a la fois negatives et positives, et il conclut que c'est dans l'avenir qu'on pourra apprecier les effets de cette influence europeenne sur les arts africains et sa contribution a leur developpement, comme le Benin ou le Dahomey, ou etaient produites les sculptures de qualite et liberties de la tradition religieuse. La colonialisation francaise chez Hardy se voit attribuer un role important d'aider les activites creatrices a se developper, ce qui permettrait aux colonies de collaborer et de s'associer a la metropole au travers l'eveil des arts indigenes. G. Hardy justifie ainsi l'attitude paternaliste du colonialisme qui par l'acculturation a permis aux arts africains de s'ouvrir a d'autres domaines artistiques comme la peinture.

京都は千年の都であり,政治の中心が江戸に移っても文化の中心として栄華を極めていた。江戸時代の中葉には,経済の中心が大坂へ,また後期には江戸へと移動した後も,町衆の文化への思い入れはたいそう強いものがあった。京都に明治2年に設置された番組小学校は,文部省の明治5年の「学制」頒布より3年先だって作られたものであり,教育の教育が全国的に見てもかなり先駆的かつ内容的に充実していた。しかしながら,番組小学校の経済的負担は京都府に全面的に依存しており,町衆の経済力が設置に貢献したものとは必ずしも言い難かった。その典型的なものが,小学校の維持費を捻出するために各小学校に作られた「小学校会社(明治2年設立)」である。この会社は当初こそうまく機能していたが,明治17年から18年にかけて,各番組において経済的破綻をしてしまい,その役割を京都府に委ねる。初等教育は,文部省の国家統制の手段であったため,何とか維持出来たが,中等教育は宗教団体へ身売りを余儀なくされる。我々が従来考えていた京都市民の活力,教育への願望,文化への希求といった固定した考え方がひっくり返るのである。京都市の公立学校は,国内の他の地域と同様,国の管理・統制・援助の下ではじめてその維持が可能であったことがわかるのである。

東京湾岸沿いにあるビル10階の大部屋に一歩足を踏み入れると、熱気が伝わってきた。20〜30代を中心に40人ほどが6つのテーブルに分かれ、真剣な眼差しで議論を戦わせている。「お客様のニーズは何なの?」「競合もあるから厳しいよね」…。6月18日の午後1時前に始まった議論は、延々5時間余りも続いた。 これは日本軽金属が取り入れている「事業化実践チーム研修」の一幕。

道路標識は交通安全に対して大きな役割を担っている.本論文では,ドライバが標識を見落とすことを防ぐため,車内に設置されたカメラによって撮影した画像から道路標識を抽出し,道路標識の種類とタイプを認識する手法を提案する.本研究では,提案した輝度・彩度分布特徴パラメータ「輝彩度」(街値)を利用し,カラー画像から標識候補画素を抽出することにより,標識の抽出牢の向上を図っている.「シンメトリフレームワーク(symmetry framework)形状判別法」により,標識候補領域の5種類の形状を判断できることを示し,処理時間の大幅な軽減を図っている.シンボルと背景の輝度差と色度差を利用し,標識シンボル領域を抽出している.抽出した標識シンボル領域の形状判断により,標識のタイプを確定できる.また,3種類の色,5種類の形状,16タイプの標識が存在するカラー画像500枚を用いた評価実験の結果,96.2%の高抽出牢と93.3%の高認識牢を達成するとともに,平均処理時間が約0.1秒とほぼ実用的な処理時間を達成できることを示した.

Water probably has played significant roles in the origin and evolution of the Earth. During the accretion period, an H2-H2O atmosphere would have been formed by impact degassing of planetesimals, which may have resulted in the formation of magma ocean (hence promoted metal-silicate separation) and condensed to form the proto-ocean. During the evolution of the Earth, water would have circulated between the surface and mantle reservoirs. This global water cycle may have controlled the ocean mass and water content in the mantle as it coupled with thermal evolution of the Earth through mantle rheology. It may also have oxidized the mantle and the atmosphere in the Earth's history.

The main function of the capitalist credit system is to create additional purchasing power in advance of future reflux of money, that is, credit creation. Commercial credit is the most fundamental form of credit creation, but it has the restrictions by individual situations, such as the sum of money due, the terms of payment and the acceptability of a bill. Banking credit is the capitalist social mechanism that overcomes the limitations of commercial credit, and realizes constant and overall credit creation. An individual bank, however, will be exposed to liquidity risk as well as credit risk, by responding to various requests based on many individual situations. This paper shows that the liquidity risk of banking credit is not actualized under the following conditions. 1) The banking system which has the mechanism of bill clearing and settlement, and of inter-bank lending or rediscount, is systematized. 2) The banking system is carrying out inclusion of the whole social reproductive process. 3) The social reproductive process is smooth and favorable. Under the conditions, bank liabilities, banknotes and deposits, which banks create in the course of bill discounting, circulate as means of purchase and payment, achieving the function as reserve that idle money has accomplished.
