Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), a first homolog of ACE, regulates the renin-angiotensin system by counterbalancing ACE activity. Accumulating evidence in recent years has demonstrated a physiological and pathological role of ACE2 in the cardiovascular, renal and respiratory systems. For instance, in the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), ACE, AngII, and AT1R promote the disease pathogenesis, whereas ACE2 and the AT2R protect from ARDS. Importantly, ACE2 has been identified as a key SARS-coronavirus receptor and plays a protective role in SARS pathogenesis. Furthermore, the recent explosion of research into the ACE2 homolog, collectrin, has revealed a new physiological function of ACE2 as an amino acid transporter, which explains the pathogenic role of gene mutations in Hartnup disorder. This review summarizes and discusses the recently unveiled roles for ACE2 in disease pathogenesis. (Circ J 2010; 74: 405 - 410)

The aims of this paper examine the historical character of rural community, and the changes of the communal relations of members by the rural policy in pre-war time. The prototype of rural community is "administrative village" which was formed by the shogunate state in 17 century. The village consisted of independent and modernized farmer's families, but village members had communal and medival relation with each other. This dual character of village were corresponded to the same character of the shogunate state. There were "bilateral relations" between village and state, and depended on each other. It is important that the village strongly regulated its members by self-restricted regulation of members. The home living improvement policy in 1930's aimed to rationalize farmer's traditional life style in rural community. At the same time, this policy made the traditional regulation abilities of community tight because this policy was carried out depended on it's relations in community. The economic control policy in war-time changed the class order of farmers in community and made the traditional relations loose. But this policy also carried out depended on the traditional regulation abilities in community and made it tight. Thus, the rural policy in pre-war time had dual and contrastive characters, and the regulation abilities of community were maintained and supported by rural policy.

脳外傷後の身体障害が軽い患者では, 外見からは高次脳機能障害が時にわかりにくく, 「見えない障害, 隠れた障害」 などと称される. 外見上は良好に回復しているものの, 社会生活への適応が障害されており, 実際の生活や社会に帰って初めて問題が顕在化し, 結果的に元の学校や職場に戻ることができないこともしばしばある. 本稿では, 脳神経外科医が知っておくべき脳外傷後高次脳機能障害の特徴と診断として, ①急性期の意識障害の正確な記載と早期の画像診断の重要性, ②診断困難例における頭部SPECTやPETなどの機能的画像診断法の有用性, ③自動車運転再開における脳神経外科医の役割について概説する. 脳外傷後高次脳機能障害の病態を正しく理解し診断や治療方針を決めるとともに, 社会参加への適切な判断や指導における脳神経外科医の役割が今後さらに高まると思われる.

“Japan; Who governs?” This has been one of the main themes in the Japanese political science. Since the bureaucracy had been the core of the pre-war imperial system, the establishment of the elected officials' supremacy under the new Constitution became, the priority objective. This goal was achieved by the decades of the Liberal Democratic Party's one party dominance. However, recent studies have re-discovered the significance of the bureaucracy.After reviewing the academic literature, this article brings three new perspectives. First, the new type of bureaucracy, “administrative conservator, ” is emerging. Second, this “re-discovery” of the Japanese bureaucratic leadership might be temporary. Japan has become a front-runner who has to choose her own shape of the state. Bureaucrats have to work together with politicians since only politicians can make legitimate decisions. Therefore it's time for us to discuss the constructive relationship between those two, instead of asking which has the dominance. This identifies factors that define the bureaucracy itself. Finally, this article demonstrates the knowledge that defines bureaucracy is not some knowledge on particular areas, but the certain attitudes towards policies.

Shin Kobe railway station on the Sanyo Shinkan Sen (New Sanyo Line) is situated at the south piedmont of the Mt. Rokko and underlied by active fault named Suwayama fault.Then the elevated railway structures are underlied three different beds such as granite rock, fault clay and alluvial sand and gravels.So, the special considerations were carried out for the design of the structures with regard to the effects of differential movements of the ground due to active faulting, uneven subgrade reaction under the basement structures, and heaving pressure due to swelling of the fault clay.

ドッグフードへのサルモネラ属菌の混入に注目し、日本国内で販売される犬用ドッグフードを対象に調査を行った。方法は「愛玩動物用飼料等の検査法(27消技第1051号)」に従った。対象製品は27社の犬用ドライフードから選択した国産フード63製品、輸入フード47製品とした。輸入フードの原産国の内訳は米国14製品、オランダ7製品、タイ・カナダ・フランスが6製品、オーストラリア5製品、スウェーデン2製品、チェコ1製品であった。その結果、サルモネラ属菌は、今回調査した、すべての製品で陰性であった。

日本酒のコクはゴク味ともいわれ, アミノ酸やペプチドなどの成分のほかに甘みと酸味のバランスなどが関与しているとされる。コクは日本酒の代表的な味覚感覚であり, その実体を明らかにすることは清酒の品質設計やおいしい飲み方などに貴重な情報を提供するものと考えられる。筆者は最近研究が活発になってきたコクを科学的に解明するための研究に取り組まれている。そこでコクにかかわる生理的側面や日本酒との関係について詳細に解説していただいた。

食道異物は摘出が容易な症例や自然排泄が期待できる症例が多いが,時として消化管穿孔や皮下・縦隔気腫などの合併症を引き起こす事がある。今回われわれは過去11年間で経験した,食道異物の症例を若干の文献的考察を加え報告する。症例は全98例,10代と60〜70代の二峰性分布を認めた。種類別ではPTPが最多であった。30例が入院加療を要したが軽快退院していた。一般的な耳鼻咽喉科診察では食道内の異物を見落としてしまう恐れがあり,上部消化管内視鏡検査や頸部CT検査は重要である。また鋭的異物の誤飲を積極的に疑う場合,後に下部消化管穿孔や穿通をきたす恐れがあるため他科との連携を図り,下部消化管精査も検討すべきである。

Wearable devices have been numerously reported so far which aim to augment eating experience by applying crossmodal perception that multiple senses are interacting with each other and are integrated as one experience. As for devices which append sensory stimuli artificially, it is considered that multisensory integration would be lost if a delay between multiple sensory stimuli arises. On the other hand, a novel experience could be also obtained by utilizing the delay. This research investigated the perception of a time-lag between delayed auditory feedback of chewing potatochips and actual chewing behavior. As a result, most of the participants perceived time-lags at more than 200 [ms], and this result can be attributed to the durations of closing and occlusal phase of mastication. This research also investigated the effect of the time-lag on “zakuzaku” (crunchy) feeling of potatochips. As a result, 100 [ms] time-lag augments zakuzaku feeling most, and the evaluation values of zakuzaku feeling tend to vary more widely when the time-lag becomes perceived. According to the above results, this paper showed that delayed auditory feedback of mastication could augment zakuzaku feeling without spoiling multisensory integration.

On Amami Oshima Island, free-ranging and feral cats are harmful to wildlife populations. In this study, the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in these cats was examined using a newly developed Gaussia luciferase immunoprecipitation system assay. Of 1,363 cats, 123 cats (9.0%) was positive for T. gondii. The prevalence was significantly different in different areas; among cats in the rural area, where many wild animals live, including endangered species, T. gondii infection was more prevalent than in the urban area of the island. This finding indicates a possible risk to wildlife of infection from free-ranging and feral cats. Therefore, management of cats is important for wildlife conservation.

2015年から2016年にかけてのごく短い間に,私たちの学会は3人の偉大な先達を相次いで失いました。大村政男先生(1925年10月4日生,2015年10月31日逝去),星野命先生(1927年8月24日生,2015年11月7日逝去),藤永保先生(1926年10月2日生,2016年1月21日逝去)です。3人の先生はいずれも日本パーソナリティ心理学会の前身である日本性格心理学会(1992年6月設立)の設立発起人,初代の理事として学会の設立に参加され,とくに大村先生は初代の副理事長,2代目理事長として初期の学会運営に大きく貢献されました。先生方のパーソナリティ心理学への思いは,『性格心理学研究』(現在の『パーソナリティ研究』)の第1巻第1号(1993年3月)に掲載された論文やシンポジウム記録を読むと,いまも強く伝わってくるものがあります。先生方はつねに,パーソナリティとはなにか,パーソナリティをどう捉えるか,パーソナリティ研究の意義はなにか,という根本的な問題を考え続けておられました。私たちも忘れずにそうした根本的,原理的な問題を考え続けることで,先生方の功績を引き継いでいきたいと思います。『パーソナリティ研究』では追悼特集として,3人の先生方にゆかりのあった会員から,各先生の思い出を語っていただくことで,先生方への追悼に代えることとし,会員の皆様とともに先生方を偲びたいと思います。

In this study, finite element models for two types of bicycles with different shapes were constructed. These deformable models were validated in quasi-static loading conditions, and were used to investigate the effect of the deformation of the bicycle body on the head injuries to its occupant. The analysis confirmed that, when deformable models are used, the kinematics of the cyclist after the contact with a vehicle changes, and the injury values are different, from those obtained by rigid models. In addition, different bicycle types produce different riding postures, which significantly change the rotational motion of the cyclist around the vertical axis, subsequently affecting head injuries.
