Ophidiomycosis is an emerging infectious disease caused by the fungus Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola, which has been affecting wild and captive snakes in North America, Europe, and Australia. We report 12 cases of suspected ophidiomycosis in captive colubrid snakes in Japan. Pathological and microbiological examinations were performed, and the results confirmed the diagnosis of ophidiomycosis in two snakes, which indicated that the remaining sympatrically raised snakes also had ophidiomycosis since they exhibited similar lesions. This is the first report of ophidiomycosis in Asia caused by O. ophiodiicola. To prevent the expansion of ophidiomycosis in the natural environment in Japan, there is a need to evaluate the ophidiomycosis carrier status of imported snakes, the pathogenicity of the infection in native snakes, and the prevalence and distribution of O. ophiodiicola in wild and captive snakes. Measures also must be taken to prevent endemicity globally.

This study investigated whether there are differences in bystander behavior when bullying is witnessed. We evaluated the number and types of bystander behaviors by means of the OBVQ, and then examined the psychological characteristics of the different bystander behaviors. 269 Japanese elementary school students and 503 junior high school students completed questionnaires assessing empathic concern, peer conformity, moral disengagement, authenticity and satisfaction in classes, global self-worth, and how they would respond if they observed a peer being bullied. The results of a multinomial logistic regression analysis and ANOVA demonstrated that there would be some types of bystander behavior with common characteristics such as empathic concern and developmental differences. Moreover, the results also showed that two types of behaviors, of which one indicated the most negative psychological state, might be caused by peer conformity. Other behaviors might be caused by moral disengagement and contain some subordinate modes owing to regulatory effects of peer conformity, such as pretending to be unaware of bullying. The practical implications of bystander behavior are discussed.

We conducted SCUBA-based surveys of the larval and juvenile fish fauna in reef and seaweed areas in the inshore region of Usujiri, Hakodate, along the Pacific coast of southern Hokkaido, Japan, from 2019 to 2020. A total of 100 species in 10 orders and 44 families were identified based on morphological observations and DNA barcoding analyses of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. Of these species, two specimens of the labrid, Pseudolabrus sieboldi Mabuchi and Nakabo, 1997, one specimen of the cottid, Cottus hangiongensis Mori, 1930, two specimens of the blennid, Petroscirtes breviceps (Valenciennes, 1836), and one specimen of the gobiid, Pterogobius zacalles Jordan and Snyder, 1901, represent the first records of these four species in the study area. In addition, three specimens of the Stichaeid, Lumpenopsis pavlenkoi Soldatov, 1916, represent the first records captured during juvenile stages of this species, and one specimen of the pleuronectid, Lepidopsetta mochigarei (Snyder, 1911) represent the first juvenile captured in Usujiri of these species. The fish list is also added in this report.

窒素雰囲気下で熱処理されたスギ辺材およびアカマツ辺材の耐朽性, 耐蟻性および吸湿性を検討した。熱処理の温度は140~240℃で, 熱処理の時間は24時間とした。スギ辺材の熱処理木材から木口断面20mm×20mm, 繊維方向10mm の試験片を切り出して, オオウズラタケおよびカワラタケによる12週間の強制腐朽試験を実施したところ, 処理温度が高いほど腐朽による質量減少率は低下し, 220℃および240℃の処理で質量減少率は1%以下となった。また, ファンガスセラー試験においても, 12カ月経過時点で, 無処理試験体の腐朽度が5となっても, 220℃および240℃処理試験体の腐朽度は0のままであった。一方, 室内耐蟻性試験では, 240℃処理試験体のイエシロアリ食害による質量減少率は11%であり, 耐蟻性は十分ではなかった。JIS K 1571: 2004に準拠した野外試験の結果, 奈良県森林技術センター明日香実験林におけるスギ辺材熱処理材の腐朽とヤマトシロアリによる被害も, また鹿児島県日置市吹上浜におけるアカマツ辺材熱処理材のイエシロアリによる被害も, 処理温度が高いほど軽減されることが明らかになった。高い生物劣化抵抗性を示す熱処理木材は, 吸湿性も大きく低下しており, 両者に密接な関係があることが示唆された。

ろうベースの盲ろう者であるAさんは、若い頃に手帳を取得していたが、社会との接点を持たず、社会資源も活用することなく在宅生活を送っていたようである。ところが、同居家族の逝去により、突然、独居となってしまった。<BR> 幸いにも、近隣の親戚から支援が得られ、福祉事務所につながることができたものの、もともと交流が乏しかったため、従前のAさんのライフスタイルを知る人は誰もいない。ホームヘルパーの導入などでライフラインを整えることはできたが、Aさんとのコミュニケーションが十分に取れない中で、何を望み、どういう生活を本人が目指しているのかはきちんと見えていない。<BR> まだ、本人の意向を十分に把握するには至っていないが、多職種、多事業所が関わり、情報交換をしながら、少しずつ本人への理解が進んできたと言えるところである。福祉事務所とヘルパー事業所の関わりだけでも、生活は維持でき、時間の経過とともに落ち着きを見せるようにはなってきたが、大きく流れが変化したのは、専門職が関わるようになってからである。自分の意思で行動する機会が持てるようになり、行動範囲を広げることができると在宅のストレスも緩和されてきた様子で、最近では表情も明るくなったと周囲から言われている。専門職集団である福祉センターの存在、および地域に視覚障害の専門職が配置されていることが大きく貢献していると言える。<BR> 現在も支援は進行形であり、試行錯誤を繰り返しながら、格闘してきた約1年間の関わりを報告する。

Novel peptides derived from chicken collagen hydrolysate (CCH) were confirmed to have a vasoprotective effect after ingestion and absorption to vessels; however, their endovascular mechanism of action required clarification. Therefore, using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), in which inflammation had been induced by tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), we investigated the mechanism by which CCH-derived peptides inhibited the vascular inflammatory response. Expression of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1), and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in HUVECs was increased significantly by the addition of TNF-α, whereas treatment with proline-hydroxyproline (Pro-Hyp) and hydroxyproline-glycine (Hyp-Gly), which are present in human peripheral blood after ingestion of CCH, inhibited these increases. These peptides also reduced the mRNA expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) up-regulated by TNF-α. These results suggest that the vasoprotective effect of CCH-derived peptides is due to inhibition of endothelial inflammation.

島根県は社会福祉法人南高愛隣会(長崎県)の研究事業の一環として、起訴された高齢者や障害者に対し、福祉的視点からかれらの更生支援を検討する、いわゆる入口支援に取り組み始めている。島根県では2013年10月に社会福祉法人島根県社会福祉協議会内に障がい者調査支援委員会が立ち上げられて以降、これまでに4事案において入口支援を実施してきた。13;本研究は、そのうちこの研究事業全体として初の試みとなった、在宅起訴(控訴)時点で入口支援を実施したB氏の事案を取り上げた。本研究では、この事案のなかで取り組まれた入口支援について、ソーシャルワークの事例として整理を試みた。また、勾留中と在宅起訴(控訴)時点の入口支援の比較を通じて、在宅起訴(控訴)における入口支援の可能性を検証した。その結果、入口支援の実施期間は勾留中とほぼ同じ約2ヶ月であったものの、在宅起訴(控訴)の場合は時間的制約、物理的制約が少なく、本人の障害特性等によって面会回数等を柔軟に調整することができていたことが分かった。その一方で、判決後により福祉サービスとつながった場合に誰が再犯防止の責任を担うのか、弁護人との連携をどのように構築していくか等が課題として見えてきた。

エジプトで飼育されている水牛, 牛および緬羊について, それらの第一胃内繊毛虫構成を調査した. その結果, 水牛では12属29種7型, 牛では10属28種11型および緬羊では7属18種6型がそれぞれ同定された. 牛と水牛では22種が共通してみられたが, 緬羊では12種が牛および水牛との共通種であった. 各家畜ともエントジニウム属, 特にE.simplex, E.nanellumおよびE.exigumが最も多くみられた. 以上から, エジプトの家畜反芻動物の第一胃内繊毛虫構成は, 水牛が熱帯地域の繊毛虫の一部を保有しているものの, 全体として, 温帯地域の反芻獣のそれと類似していることが明らかとなった.
