Since high levels of hyperthermia induce immunosuppression to a certain extent (i.e., granulocytosis and lymphocytopenia) in patients, we applied mild hyperthermia in volunteers using equipment enabling well-controlled hyperthermia. Restricted control of rectal temperature at 39.4 (± 0.2)°C for 30 min was conducted and various parameters of the body were examined. The most prominent change observed during exposure to hyperthermia was elevated levels of pH and PO2 in the blood, even in the venous blood. A transient elevation of ACTH, cortisol and growth hormone in the blood was also seen during this time. In parallel with this phenomenon, the number of total lymphocytes and those of its subsets (especially CD57+ or CD56+ NK cells and NKT cells) increased. More interestingly, the proportion of HLA-DR (MHC class II antigens) increased in NK and NKT cells, and their intensity on the surface of CD20+ B cells increased. These results suggest that mild hyperthermia is important for modulation of the functions of the circulatory, endocrine and immune systems.

Benzodiazepine receptor agonists (BZs) are medications to be used with caution, not only for long-time users, but also for first-time users. This study aimed to compare the use of BZs or central nervous system (CNS) agents in first-time BZs users (FU) and continuing BZs users (CU). Using a large health insurance claims database in Japan, BZs users aged ≥40 years in 2013 who were opioid non-users without hospitalization were classified into FU or CU, by use of BZs in the first half-year. BZs or CNS agent use at the index date (the first date BZs were dispensed in the latter year) was investigated as follows: (1) proportion of patients with prescriptions of BZs for use as needed (BZs-AN), (2) daily number of BZs or CNS agents, and (3) daily standardized dose of BZs or CNS agents. More individuals in the FU group (3,162/16,576; 19%) than in the CU group (7,627/46,088; 17%) received BZs-AN (p<0.001); 87% of the FU group vs 62% of the CU group used single BZs (p<0.001), and 53% vs 24% used less than 5 mg/day of equivalent diazepam (p<0.001). A similar trend was found for CNS agents. Numbers or doses of BZs or CNS agents decreased with increasing age in both groups. However, some first-time users aged 70-74years started with ≥2 types of BZs or ≥10 mg/day of equivalent diazepam. Overall, BZs for outpatients without opioids were started carefully, but a prescription review was necessary for some patients, requiring more effort from healthcare providers.

This study examined the effects of three types of mentoring, such as career mentoring, childcare mentoring, and double-roles mentoring, on the working intentions of regular female employees rearing children. In addition, it also examined the effects of work-family conflict and vocational identity as mediators. Survey data from 247 regular female employees whose youngest child was less than 16 years old were used. The results showed the following: (a) double-roles mentoring directly promoted working intention, and (b) career mentoring promoted vocational identity formation directly, and the degree of vocational identity formation positively influenced working intention.

The purpose of the study was to focus on the prejudice toward people receiving welfare and to identify the psychological factors related to such prejudice. Participants included 193 university students (104 male and 89 female, M = 19.5 years). Links among the participants’ self-esteem, nationalism, perspective taking, and prejudice toward people receiving welfare were examined. Multiple regression analysis revealed that prejudice was positively related to nationalism and negatively related to perspective taking. Implications for mitigating criticism toward people receiving welfare are discussed.

2021年8月号の特集は「図書館とゲームのいま」です。欧米の図書館では,ゲームを図書館資料として扱う取り組みが一般的に行われていますが,国内でも,公共図書館を中心として,同様の取り組みを行う図書館が増えてきています。一言でゲームと言っても様々ですが,囲碁・将棋などの「伝統ゲーム」だけでなく,「ボードゲーム」や「デジタルゲーム」,「テーブルトーク・ロールプレイングゲーム(TRPG)」なども対象としているのが近年の取り組みの特徴です。取り組みの内容も,館内利用や体験イベントの開催に留まらず,図書館の情報資源としてゲームを収集・整理して館外貸出を行っている事例など幅広くなってきています。一方,図書館でゲームを扱うことについては,その目的・意義が,一般の図書館利用者はもとより,図書館関係者にも十分に浸透しているとは言い難い状況かと思います。そこで今回の特集では,図書館とゲームの関わりについて,様々な視点でご執筆いただきました。まず,日向良和氏より,図書館とゲームの関わりについて,海外の事例も交えた近年の動向,情報資源としてのゲームの位置付け,図書館でゲームを扱うことの意義や効果,今後の展望についてご解説いただきました。高倉暁大氏にはイベント開催の豊富なご経験から,公共図書館における事例を中心に,イベントの目的や効果,開催にあたっての課題についてご紹介いただきました。実際にボードゲームの館外貸出を行われている中札内村図書館の小山洋子氏,杉浦慶美氏には,ボードゲームの館外貸出を始めた経緯や狙い,実際の利用状況や反響,運用上の課題についてご紹介いただきました。井上奈智氏には,実際に図書館でアナログゲームを導入する際の,情報収集や選定,購入手続きを進めるにあたって,どのような情報やツールを用いることができるか,ご解説いただきました。福田一史氏には,ビデオゲームを収集・保存するために必要不可欠となる目録について,立命館大学ゲーム研究センターのゲーム保存の事例を通じて,そのデータモデルやデータ公開の手法についてご詳説いただきました。本特集が,図書館でゲームを扱う意義やサービス上の位置付けを考える参考資料として,また実際の導入を検討する際の足掛かりとなれば幸いです。さらにこうした新しい取り組みを通して,これからの図書館のあり方を再考するきっかけとなりましたら望外の喜びです。(会誌編集担当委員:南雲修司(主査),今満亨崇,大橋拓真,中川紗央里)

日本は世界で最も多い30万種類の苗字を持つ国である.苗字は地域の歴史・風土の影響を受けているため,その世帯数には地域差が存在し地域性の一指標となりうる.本稿では,2005年電話帳データに基づいて,苗字の空間的偏在を把握し,その偏在と人口流動との関係性について報告する.なお,その地域の苗字構成比率と全国の苗字構成比率との比較を用いて偏在性を示し,人口移動データと地利値の概念を用いて人口流動を表した.

The 60MWh vanadium flow battery system was installed in Minami-Hayakita substation of Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc. (HEPCO), and started operation December 2015, to demonstrate application of the storage battery as a dispatchable power source like fire plants and hydro plants. In commissioning tests, initial characteristics of the flow battery system, such as energy capacity, system efficiency, and response time, are confirmed. These results satisfied the specification of the system. This system has been operated to demonstrate various types of control modes such as load frequency control, compensation for wind power and PV output fluctuation, control for countermeasure against over generation, and so on. In periodic evaluation, it is confirmed that there is no deterioration of energy capacity and system efficiency, which are main performance parameters, for these 2 years of operation.
