The field of comparative cognitive science has focused especially on mammals and some birds because of their phylogenetic closeness with humans and their larger brain compared to "lower vertebrates" such as fish. However, recent comparative analyses and conceptual models in the field of animal psychology and/or animal behavior propose that cognitive abilities have evolved in response to ecological and/or social factors. In addition, it has been shown that brain organization are largely conserved throughout the vertebrates, suggesting that lower vertebrates may have more sophisticated cognitive abilities than previously thought. Therefore, to reveal the phylogenetic distribution of cognitive abilities we should also examine lower vertebrates. In fact, ethologists have demonstrated diversity of social and ecological complexities in fish, which are good candidate for helping to reveal how cognitive abilities evolved. Therefore, I focus on fish cognition in this review. Recent studies have shown that some fish behave depending on the types of information they receive. As examples, I introduce studies about flexible decision-making and social cognitive abilities in cichlid fish in Lake Tanganyika, and cleaner wrasse. Finally, I discuss the evolution of cognitive abilities in different ecological contexts.

統合失調症の精力的なゲノム研究が世界的に取り組まれているものの,統合失調症の病態生理が不均一であるが故に(異種性),その分子基盤を理解する際の大きな障壁となっている。筆者らは,これまでも臨床的な側面から特徴的な病像を呈する症例を集積し,かつ家系症例や希少症例を軸にして,個々の症例が有する分子基盤の一端を一般症例へ敷衍するというストラテジーを実践してきた。この研究手法により,まれな遺伝子変異を持つ家系症例から「カルボニルストレス」という代謝経路の障害を見出し,一般症例のおよそ 2 割に同じカルボニルストレス代謝の障害をもつ比較的均一な亜群を同定した。また,カルボニルストレスを呈する症例群の臨床的特徴を明らかにするとともに,カルボニルストレスの解毒作用をもつピリドキサミンを用いた医師主導治験を実施した。本稿では,これまでのカルボニルストレス性統合失調症について概説し,統合失調症研究における我々の将来展望について述べた。

The issue of a sport team's promotion to a higher league has been investigated primarilyfrom the spectator's perspective. Although recent few studies highlight the importance of localresidents on this topic, the effects of various moderating variables on local residents' decisionmaking processes still remain unexplored. The current study is one of the first attempts to( 1)develop measures for capturing three dimensions( cognitive, affective, and conative aspects) oflocal residents' attitudes toward a professional sport team promoted to a higher league and( 2)examine the effects of significant moderating variables (i.e., gender, age, and willingness tosupport the home team) on the cognitive attitudes-behavioral intentions chain and on theaffective attitudes-behavioral intentions chain. Data were collected from local residents (n =180) at two large shopping malls located in the franchise area of a professional soccer teamthat was promoted to the J-League Division Ⅱ in the 2009 season. The results indicate that theeffect of cognitive attitudes on behavioral intentions was stronger for older people than foryounger people. The research findings, managerial implications, limitations, and directions forfuture research are discussed.

多次元尺度構成法 (MDS) の一手法であるToblerの方法は,点間距離の入力データがメトリックの条件を満足し,点の配置を再現する空間をユークリッド平面に限定するとき,より簡便で操作的な手法である.本稿では,昭和36年と昭和55年の2時点について,全国主要46都市間の国鉄路線利用による時間距離にこの手法を適用し,得られた時空間マップの解釈と経年的比較を行なうとともに,手法の有効性に検討を加えた. その結果,この19年間にわが国の交通システムは大きく発展し,なかでも新幹線による時間短縮の効果が絶大であることが判明した.また,時間距離の入力データと,ユークリッド平面に再現された時間距離との適合度の評価によると, Toblerの方法は十分有効であった.これによって,交通システム研究において,時空間マップによる視覚的考察の可能性が示されるとともに,錯綜した構造をもつデータを少数次元の空間に再現するといった手法の有効性が明らかとなった.

As one of the physical evaluation techniques of seeding effects, cloud seeding experiments were conducted utilizing an instrumented aircraft, with the use of dry-ice pellets in cold clouds and hygroscopic flares and salt micro-powders in warm clouds as a seeding agent. We demonstrated from the in-situ measurements that dry-ice pellet seeding of mixed-phase orographic clouds were effective, based on the comparison of estimated radar reflectivity factor, ice water content, or precipitation intensity from the 2D images of ice particles between seeded portions and their surroundings. The observational results we obtained so far showed that hygroscopic seeding of warm clouds might be effective under limited conditions.
