TPPVを導入したALS(TPPV・ALS)患者のtotally locked-in state(TLS)について全国調査をおこなった.調査時点709名のTPPV・ALS患者中89名(13%)がTLSであった.臨床経過が確認されたTLS患者41名は,ALSの神経病院分類で,29名(70%)が6カ月間内に四肢,橋・延髄(球),呼吸および外眼運動系の4つの随意運動系のうち2つ以上が麻痺した複数同時麻痺型で,28名(70%)はTPPV開始後5年以内にTLSになった.また最後に麻痺した随意運動系は,37名(90%)が外眼運動系であった.神経病院TLS例の臨床経過の特徴は、全国調査の結果に合致していた。

The Kokugo (The Japanese Readers) in ten volumes edited by the editorial department of Iwanami Shoten, which were used as textbooks of Japanese at middle school under the old system of education from 1935 to 1944,are evaluated as textbooks of a high cultural standard although they were edited under the ultranationalistic trend of eduction at that time. Taking advantage of the occasion of their republication in 1988,the author, who happened to be taught with those textbooks at school, tries to take them into cosideration from various angles.

Social media, such as Twitter and Instagram, are an increasingly common part of modern life. Especially, Instagram is getting more and more popular as a fashion medium and a fashion learning platform because of its picture processing and sharing functions. This article discusses both the inner and outer effects of social media on the process of learning fashion and on information distribution. The author also conducted an internet survey and analyzes 455 responses. The analysis revealed that 1)Twitter and Instagram are extensions of existing network media such as weblogs, and 2)they possess great potentials in distributing pop culture independent from mass media and high culture.

A 57-year-old woman experienced pain from foreign bodies in her oral cavity after eating raw squid. Examination of her oral cavity revealed 20-30 small foreign bodies embedded in the mucous membrane. After all the foreign bodies were pulled out, the pain was allayed and the wounds eventually healed. The foreign bodies, 5mm in length, were white and of elongated conical shape. Under microscopy, a large number of sperms was observed in the bodies. These foreign bodies were determined to be sperm-bags of the squid. It is supposed that this woman ate squid with spermatophores, thereafter sperm-bags were discharged from the spermatophores into her oral cavity. Although only a few similar cases heretofore have been found, it might increase among the Japanese who frequently eat raw squid.

日本において動物園は, 有害物質による汚染のない排水の制御や飼料コストの増加などいくつかの問題をかかえている。本研究では, 生物的浄化や飼料としての水生植物の利用を熊本市動植物園内で行った。 3種類の水生植物(ホテイアオイ, ボンテデリア, マコモ)を汚水の流入する池で栽培したとき, 水中における全リンの濃度は, 植物の成長に伴い有意に減少した。 収穫した3種の植物は,湿地帯に生息する草食動物の嗜好性において良い結果がえられた。さらに, 飼料としての植物の利用は本動物園において1ヶ月当たり少なくとも約8万円の飼料費削減をもたらした。サイレージ調製について検討した結果, 添加物の必要性が認められた。 この研究から, マコモ, ポンテデリア, ホテイアオイのような水生植物による富栄養池の生物的浄化とその飼料としての利用は動物園において有効であることが示唆された。

住民検診で発見された胸部腎の1例を報告した. 37歳の家婦で, 自覚症状はない. 胸部X線写真上, 右横隔膜上に半球状の陰影を認め, 造影CTにて右腎を確認した.両腎動脈は正常位から分岐し, 右腎動脈は上方へ直線的に挙上していた. その他の合併奇形は認めなかった. 胸部腎は自覚症や機能異常をともなうことは少なく, 画像検査の発達した今日, 診断は容易ではあるが, 発育異常の観点から合併奇形の検索は不可欠である.

オスカー・ワイルドの『ドリアン・グレイの肖像』の序文では,鏡がこの作品を読み解く鍵であることを暗示する文章が並ぶ。鏡自体,ルイス・キャロルの『鏡の国のアリス』や,ギリシャ神話のメドゥーサ退治に使われた鏡のように,一種魔術的な要素を持ち,虚像と実像の乖離を本来的に内包するものだが,この作品においては肖像画が鏡の役割を果たすというひねりを効かせており,「誠実」な人間と「真実」の人間という世紀末的対立を際立たせている。肖像画が魂の真実を映し出す時,鏡に映っているモノとはいったい何なのだろうか。本稿では夏目漱石の『幻影の盾』もヒントにしつつ,『ドリアン・グレイの肖像』を中心にワイルドにおける鏡と真実,ほんものとにせもののありようを探る。

The concept of certain microorganisms conferring direct benefits to the host relates to the term “probiotic”. Probiotics are microorganisms, bacteria, or yeast that when administered orally in sufficient quantity can counteract the effect of pathogenic microorganisms. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the site where probiotics are believed to play the most important role. The proposed effects of probiotics include antagonism of pathogens, interference with adherence, competition for nutrients, enterotoxin inactivation, modulation of the immune response, and strengthening of the intestinal barrier. From birth to postweaning, piglets are very sensitive to gut colonisation by pathogens. Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli represents one of the most common agents of swine diarrhoea. The enterotoxins produced by this E. coli virotype are responsible for the loss of electrolytes and water observed following infection. This review addresses more specifically the studies done during the last 10 years deciphering the molecular mechanisms at play between host cell and probiotic interactions in the swine GI tract.

Chemical compositions and particle number densities of atmospheric aerosols were measured continuously in the coastal area of Seto Inland Sea during the spring of 2015. The mean concentrations of NH4+, NO3-, and water soluble organic nitrogen (ONws) were 1.6, 0.85, and 0.28 μg N m-3, respectively in total sampling mode. NO3- existed in both fine and coarse modes, while NH4+ and ONws existed primarily in fine mode. On the days of normal atmospheric conditions, the amount of ONws contributing to the total nitrogen was about 14% N in both fine and coarse sampling modes. This ratio was equivalent to the amount of NO3- content in fine mode and NH4+ in coarse mode. On the days with polluted atmospheric conditions, the amount of ONws contributing to total nitrogen was about 9.3% N in fine mode and about 5.0% N in coarse mode. This ratio was equivalent to the contributions of NO3- in fine mode and NH4+ in coarse mode. Dry deposition fluxes of particulate NH4+, NO3-, and ONWS in the area were 280, 660, and 83 μg N m-2 day-1, respectively. The flux of NO3- was more effective than any other nitrogen compounds, since the deposition rate depends upon a size distribution. The dry deposition of ONws accounted for about 8.1% of the total nitrogen dry deposition. Thus, ONWS cannot be ignored when considering the nitrogen budget and cycles in this area.

To make sustainable society come true, product design is required to consider environmental issues such as reduction of resource usage, product disposal, and environmental loads. Many approaches for resolving these issues such as reuse, remanufacturing, and upgradable designs are studied and implemented. To apply these design approaches to product appropriately, a designer has to understand their characteristics and evaluate the product's adaptability for these design options. Hence, this paper evaluates the advantage of these design approaches. The ultimate purpose of this study is proposal of an adaptability evaluation method of product reusability, remanufacturability, and upgradability to support designer's decision making of product or component life cycle options at the early phase of design process. Thus, this paper speculates the appropriate perspectives of these evaluations and proposes conceptual evaluation method based on the viewpoints of society (low environmental load emission), manufacturer (low production cost and high profit), and consumer (low life cycle cost and high performance). Proposed evaluation method evaluates laptop's adaptabilities of aforementioned life cycle options quantitatively and shows that upgrading can satisfy the intents of environmental load emission, production cost, and life cycle cost. In addition, the agendas of this study are emerged. Particularly, evaluation perspectives with respect to product disassemblability, reliability, and pleasurability should be added. Additionally, improving evaluation method that can evaluate multiple perspectives comprehensively is also this study's agenda.
