A convenient large-scale preparation of the indoloquinone antitumor agent EO9 has been developed. A Nenitzescu reaction has been used to prepare the indole skeleton having all functional groups necessary for its conversion into a key intermediate in a short synthesis of the indoloquinone EO9. Moreover, the hazardous reagent, Fremy's salt was replaced by safer one, [bis (trifluoroacetoxy) iodo] benzene, for oxidation of the 4-aminoindole to the corresponding indoloquinone, and high quality EO9 was easily obtained by choosing acetonitrile as the solvent in the substitution reaction of the methoxy group with ethylenimine to introduce the aziridinyl group into the precursor.

We conducted a program for preventing gingival inflammation for 3 years in a junior high school in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The program consisted mainly of instruction in oral prophylaxis and oral health education.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the program.The results were as follows;1. The prevalence of gingival inflammation in the students was about 70%.2. At the baseline, the average number of segments with gingival inflammation in 3rd grade students was greater than in 1st and 2nd grade students, and the differences were statistically significant (p<0.05).3. This study indicated that the program for preventing gingival inflammation was very effective, and the maximum value of the reduction rate was 55.4%. Especially effective was the fact that we screened out the serious cases and instructed them individually.4. The degree of gingival inflammation in the students decreased for about 1 year. But after 1 year, the degree was reversed slightly. However, the reduction rate between baseline and after 2.5 years was still high and about a 40% effect remained.5. A Highly statistical relationship between plaque and gingival inflammation was found both at the baseline and after 1 year. The partial correlation coefficients were 0.37 (p<0.001) and 0.18 (p<0.001).6. Instruction for improving individual toothbrushing habits helped the students to form desirable habits for a short period, but it was difficult to maintain these favorable habits for long periods.

東北地方太平洋沖地震によって発生した津波によって,干潟・浅場は大きく地形変形し,藻場は消失するなど,宮古湾(岩手県)の生態系は甚大な影響を受けた.著者らは,アマモ場に着目し,アマモ,地形および底質環境を合わせた総合的な環境復元過程を検討すること考えた.本研究では,宮古湾において,アマモ場の復元のための初期の情報として底質の状況を把握することを目的とした.調査は2011年2月と10月に行った.2月調査により,津波被害後のアマモ場を,底泥の粒度分布からアマモ生育の適性度を評価し,3つにゾーニングした.10月調査では,ゾーニングに基づいて空間的に密な調査を実施し,詳細な底質およびアマモの分布状況を把握した.この底質の分布データは,今後の底泥およびアマモの回復過程の初期データとして有用となる.

The ever advancing development of chemical reactions has initiated enormous progress towards the stereoselective reactions. In almost cases, however, only one isomer of the possible two isomers can be obtained by these reactions and nowadays selective synthesis of both isomers is required. The present article reviews the current advancement for selective diastereoface differentiating reactions to give both isomers especially relating to nucleophilic addition reactions to carbonyl compounds with an asymmetric center. Fundamental significance is to utilize metal reagents possessing various coordinating abilities.

A series of conformationally constrained nucleoside analogues with two hydroxymethyl groups mimicking the 3'- and 5'-hydroxyl groups of the 2'-deoxyribose were prepared and evaluated for their antiherpetic activity. Among those, 9- [[cis-1'-, 2'-bis (hydroxylmethyl) cycloprop-1'-yl] methy] guanine showed extremely potent antiviral activity against HSV-1. One of the enantiomers with (1'S), (2'R) -configuration (A-5021) was proved to be the active form. A-5021 was more active than acyclovir (ACV) against HSV-1, HSV-2, VZV, HCMV and showed superior activity over ACV in animal models. An efficient process for preparation of A-5021 including enantioselective hydrolysis of the intermediate is described. An oral prodrug AV-038 and anti-VZV drug AV-100 are also described.

日本では, ハチミツ酒を口にする機会は少ないが, その歴史は古くヨーロッパの神話や伝説にも登場する。ハチミツ酒はハチミツを単純に水で薄めてアルコール発酵させるだけでなく, ホップ, ハーブ, 薬草やスパイスなどを加えて作り, 機能性を有する嗜好飲料である。市販されている各国のハチミツ酒も紹介してもらった。

本研究では, PISA型読解力の育成を目的に, LTD話し合い学習法に依拠した小学校国語科の授業を設計し, その有効性を検討した。LTDは8ステップからなる過程プランに従って読書課題を読解する学習方略である。個人で行う予習と集団で行うミーティングとで構成されている。本実践では, ステップごとに予習とミーティングを授業時間内で実施した。対象児は同一の公立小学校5年生2クラス52名, 対象単元は説明文(全15時間)であった。授業は, 単元見通しや課題明示など協同学習の基本事項を考慮しながら実施した。学習成果は, PISA型読解力の「情報の取り出し」を測定する「基礎テスト」と「解釈・熟考・評価」を測定する「活用テスト」, 学級集団の特質を測定する「Q-U」で検討した。実践結果を比較対象群(他の公立小学校2校6クラス182名)の結果と比較したところ, LTDに依拠した授業の結果, 活用テストの成績が比較対象群よりも有意に高く, もともと成績が低かった児童の伸びが大きいことが確かめられた。また, 「Q-U」の結果から「学級の雰囲気」「学習意欲」と「承認」が改善され, 学び合える学級集団が形成されていることが確認された。

The necessity of shifting the policy focus from supply-side initiatives such as physical-capacity expansion to demand-side initiatives including ease of congestion is newly rising as a compelling method of improving the general ride quality of the metro users. In an effort to catch up with such shifting trend, a system schematic that will update the congestion status of the metro lines via mobile devices is suggested through this study, along with the development of a smartphone application to realize this service idea. The developed smartphone application allows the metro passengers to identify the congested area of each station platform and to receive information on the congestion level of each train and car. Through such assistance, the metro congestion information system can improve the overall convenience of the metro passengers by helping them identify the congestion level across the metro lines.

Nucleosides and nucleotides are one of the most important elements for cells by the fact that they are components of DNAs and RNAs. In addition, they play important roles in most fundamental cellular metabolic pathways such as energy donors, second messengers, and cofactors for various enzymes. Therefore, there exists a rich source in drug discovery targeting nucleosides and nucleotides. In order to utilize nucleosides and nucleic acids on the drug development, it is very important to develop reactions and methods, by which the highly coordinating and labile nucleoside intermediates can be used. With these in mind, we have been working on synthetic nucleoside and nucleic acid chemistry. First, branched sugar nucleoside derivatives, which are potential antitumor agents, have been synthesized utilizing samarium diiodide (SmI2) mediated Reformatsky reaction or aldol reaction. 3′-β-Carbamoylmethylcytidine (CAMC) was found to exhibit potent cytotoxicity against various human tumor cell lines. Synthetic methodology of the caprazamycins, which are promising antibacterial nucleoside natural products, was also developed by the strategy including β-selective ribosylation without using a neighboring group participation. Our synthetic route provided a range of key analogues with partial structures to define the pharmacophore. Simplification of the caprazamycins was further pursued to develop diketopiperazine analogs. Medicinal chemistry of oligodeoxynucleotides has been conducted. Thus, novel triazole-linked dumbbell oligodeoxynucleotides and modular bent oligodeoxynucleotides were synthesized. They exhibit excellent binding affinity to NF-κB or HMGB1 A-box protein, which are important therapeutic targets. Therefore, the results obtained conclusively demonstrated these oligodeoxynucleotides could be proposed as powerful decoy molecules.

In sum, the author of this paper wants to assert that the notion of gender that commonly works as a denominator to sever constructed character of sex and sexuality out of biological sex and sexuality might cease to function due to diversified interests of feminism activists. The paper examined briefly a history of feminism in Japan as compared with that in the United States for the last three decades. It came out with the observation that mighty emergence of minorities' voices other than essentialists' might bring out a breakdown of concept of gender as an adhesive of various interests. In conclusion, the author of this paper asserts the notion of gender should be more itemized and individualized to reflect the real world through its reconstruction.

Porous network structures composed of TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers(TOCNs) were successfully built up by a simple drying technique in air or oven where aqueous TOCN dispersions were dried on porous supports with mcron or submicron pores. A small amount of cationic surfactant was added to the TOCN dispersion to make hydrophilic TOCN surfaces hydrophobic to some extent. The porous TOCN networks formed inside the individual pores of the support had two-dimensional structures composed both of single and bundled TOCNs. Laser scanning microscopy was subjected to in situ monitoring during the formation of porous TOCN networks, showing that the wet thin films were first formed from the TOCN dispersion, followed by the gradual formation of submicron-sized pores in the films as water evaporated. The new method described here has potential for mass production of functional porous materials from cellulose nanofibers.

The aim of this paper is to present a new rational choice theory of voting which contains Bandwagon-type voters that all the existing rational choice theories of voting have failed to deal with and to present a way of showing the turnout rate as a Bayesian Nash equilibrium in the more general and plausible framework.The findings of this paper are (1) There exists a Bayesian Nash equilibrium which corresponds to substantial turnout in the rational choice theory of voting which contains almost all the types of preference including Bandwagon-type. (2) My research shows that there are unnegligible percentage of Bandwagontype voters in the electorate of the First District in Kagawa at the General Election in 2005. This means all the existing rational choice theories of voting based on the expression ‘R= pB-C+D are not plausible.
