It is important for R&D managers, consultants, and other people seeking broad knowledge in technology fields to survey technical literature such as research papers, white papers, and technology news articles. One of the important kinds of information for those people regards the effectiveness of new technologies in their own businesses. General search engines are good at selecting documents revealing the details of a specific technology or a technology field, but it is hard to obtain useful information about how a technology will apply to individual business cases from such search results. There is a need for a technology survey assistance tool that helps users find technologies with suitable capabilities. In this paper, two technical tasks were tackled to develop the prototype of this assistance tool: Extraction of advantage phrases and scoring for the advantage phrases to find novel applications in the target technology field. We describe a new method to identify advantage phrases in technical documents and our scoring function that gives higher scores to novel applications of the technology. The results of evaluations showed our phrase identification method with only a few phrasal patterns performs almost as well as human annotators, and the proposed scoring conforms better to the decisions made by professionals than random sort.

本研究の目的は高齢者に対する全3回2週間の短期集中型睡眠改善プログラムの実践を報告することであった。従来の研究よりも短期間で実施する睡眠改善プログラムを、離島A在住の高齢者16名と離島B在住の高齢者23名の計39名に実施した。その結果、睡眠改善行動の頻度増加、睡眠障害の重症度軽減、主観的な寝つき、熟睡感、日中のすっきり感の改善が認められた。一方で、睡眠障害の重症度においては先行研究と比べて限定される結果であった。また、離島ごとの分析では、睡眠障害の改善や主観的評価の一部において離島Aの改善が大きいことが示された。よって、従来よりも短期型であっても高齢者の睡眠を改善できる可能性が示唆された。

Essential trace elements (ETEs) are a couple of elements, whose abundance in the body is less than that of iron in human body, indispensable for human physiological function. Overview on the impacts of these elements on childʼs growth and development will be given. Elucidation of such impacts is not an easy task since so many factors other than ETEs, but often associated with ETEs, would affect the childʼs growth and development. Brief summary of the impacts by iron, zinc, copper, iodine, and selenium will be described, followed by a discussion on potential relationship between trace element nutritional status and globalization. Examining the issue of ETEs in global perspective has revealed the existence of deficiency in the past and might suggest reconsideration of the concept of nutritional requirement of ETEs.

サイエンスライティングをサイエンスコミュニケーションの主要な実践として位置付け、効果的なライティング作法とその教育法を探求した。実施にあたっては、大学院生等を対象としたライティング講座を実施し、「魅力的なサイエンスライティングのポイント;初心者が陥りやすい罠;想定する読者・媒体;専門用語の“ほぐし方”」といった観点から講じ方に関する基礎データを収集した。その成果は専門のウェブサイトを設けて公開した。

哺乳時に著しい呼吸障害を来した新生児の1例を経験したので報告する。出生後に哺乳開始するも、喘鳴、チアノーゼ、鼻腔へのミルクの逆流が認められたため、経口哺乳が困難となった。胸部レントゲン、心エコー、頭頸部MRIなどでは、明らかな異常は認められなかったが、鼻咽腔ファイバースコープ検査で上咽頭がやや狭いように思われた。おそらくこのために、授乳中に努力性の鼻呼吸が行われ、下顎と舌を中心とする嚥下運動のリズムが障害されて誤飲したものと考えられた。日数の経過とともに、この障害は徐々に改善した。

When consumers buy certain products, they sometimes seek information about the product class and sometimes not. Many literatures have shown that consumers make less effort to acquire information when they are less involved with the product class. Then, if information seeking by word-of-mouth is easier and costs less than information seeking by mass media, those consumers who are less involved with the product class will depend upon word-of-mouth more than the more involved consumers. This study examined this hypothesis by giving questionaires to 214 female college or university students. The product class chosen here was cosmetics. The results showed that information seeking by word-of-mouth is an easier way to aquire information, and that if consumers are less involved with the product class, they depend more upon word-of-mouth for getting information about the product clans.

アメーバ経営システムを導入する企業が近年増加している.しかし,それらの導入企業の中には,短期的にその運用を中止ししてしまう企業も少なくない.その中止の原因を解明するためには,アメーバ経営システムを継続的に運用している企業と比較的短期で中止してしまった企業において,部門別採算制度の諸側面がアメーバのパフォーマンスに及ぼす影響メカニズムに相違があるかどうかを明らかにすることは非常に重要である.本研究において多母集団同時分析を実施した結果,その影響メカニズムは継続企業と中止企業の間で概ね同様であることが分かった.比較的短期間でアメーバ経営システムを中止してしまうぐらい運用中に問題が生じていた状況でも,当該システムは一定の効果をもたらしていたのである.以上のファインディングスにより,その中止原因は,得られた効果を上回る負担感や不満の存在,あるいは効果の絶対量を抑制する何らかの要因の存在である可能性が高いことが示唆された.

Acrylamide is industrially produced by catalytic hydration of acrylonitrile with reduced copper salts. However, the preparation and regeneration of the catalyst are laborious and the process requires a high temperature. It has therefore been considered very desirable to establish a process for producing acrylamide under moderate conditions, because compounds containing double bonds in the molecule are readily polymerizable.There is a growing interest in the synthesis of useful organic compounds by biological process for its specificity and moderate reaction condition. Therefore, we attempted to produce acrylamide from acrylonitrile using microbial enzyme and we found a bacterium having a high acrylamide producing enzyme (nitrile hydratase).This paper describes the details and merits of the development of microbial production of acrylamide.

We evaluated the quantitative relationship between the subjective stress value and heart rate variability. The mean values of R-R interval (RRI) and respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), which were reported to be markedly affected by stress, were used as heart rate variability. The following mental workload was performed so as to give wide range loads to the subjects: presentation of research, asking questions in research presentation, research presentation practice, and supine rest. The subjective stress value was obtained as serial values from 1 to 5 by a newly-developed questionnaire. The correlation between the stress value and RRI or RSA when such wide range workload are given was evaluated. There was a high correlation between the subjective stress value and RRI (correlation coefficient, -0.637), but not between the subjective stress value and RSA (coefficient, -0.319) Signal processing of RRI was simpler than that of RSA. These results suggest the usefulness of RRI as an index of the subjective stress value.

2型糖尿病で加療中の85歳女性.入院2か月前より水泡性天疱瘡に対してステロイド治療が開始された.3日前からの発熱を主訴に当院を受診し,肺炎を契機とした糖尿病性ケトアシドーシスの診断で入院した.入院後ステロイドを中止し,インスリン,抗菌薬を開始したが,翌日の喀痰鏡検にて糞線虫の幼虫を多数認めたため糞線虫過剰感染症と診断しイベルメクチンを開始した.また,意識障害,呼吸不全を認め,細菌性髄膜炎,非心原性肺水腫と診断し,抗菌薬の変更,非侵襲的陽圧換気も開始した.本例の抗HTLV-1抗体は陽性であり,イベルメクチン14日間連日投与で糞線虫は陰性化し,約60日間かけて意識状態,呼吸状態も改善を認めた.本例は抗HTLV-1抗体陽性2型糖尿病患者がステロイド投与を契機に糖尿病性ケトアシドーシス,細菌性髄膜炎,非心原性肺水腫を伴った重症糞線虫症を発症し,イベルメクチン連日投与により救命し得た希少な症例である.

女性の社会進出が進み、一日の多くの時間を保育施設で過ごす子どもの数も増加する中で、集団への適応の如何は子どもにとって大きな課題となり得る。本研究では、社会的スキル、実行機能及び言語能力の3者を適応に関わる領域として捉え、幼児期におけるそれら3領域の関連を検討することを目的とした。近畿圏内の保育所、幼稚園、認定こども園の担任保育士に質問紙調査を実施し、3歳後半から6歳の就学前児 652 名に対する回答を得た。それらの保育者評定の得点について因子分析した結果、社会的スキル3下位尺度(主張スキル・協調スキル・自己統制スキル)、実行機能2下位尺度(抑制力・状況対応力)、言語能力2下位尺度(外言活用力・メタ言語活用力)を抽出した。分散分析の結果、7下位尺度の全てにおいて、性別と年齢の交互作用は有意ではなく、それぞれの主効果のみが有意であった。具体的には、女児が男児よりも有意に得点が高く、また、5歳前半児がそれ以前の年齢群よりも有意に得点が高かった。パス解析の結果、言語能力から社会的スキルと実行機能への影響が大きいこと、そして、言語能力の中でも、外言やメタ言語を活用する能力の発達が、幼児期における社会的スキル及び実行機能の獲得・発達に対して、共通の重要な要件となっている可能性が示唆された。
