本稿は1905-10年の大阪でのペスト流行をとりあげ, 『大阪府第二回百斯篤流行誌』を主な史料としながら, 流行の様相とその対策を明らかにする。アジアでの第3次パンデミックを背景として, 大阪府では958名の患者が発生し, 近代日本で最大のペスト被害となった。行政当局は捕鼠・除鼠に重点を置きながら患者の早期発見に努め, 入院・隔離, 交通遮断, 消毒で対応したが, 零細事業者や下層民を中心に社会経済的にも大きな打撃を与えた。This study discusses the plague outbreak in Osaka from 1905 to 1910 and describes how it spread and what countermeasures were taken, based primarily on "The Report on the Second Plague Outbreak in Osaka Prefecture." Against the backdrop of the 3rd pandemic in Asia, this study explores the case of Osaka prefecture where 958 patients suffered from plague, which is the largest case in modern Japan. The authorities focused on capturing and exterminating rats, while trying to detect patients at early stages to counter the outbreak with hospitalization and quarantine, cordoning and blocking transport, and disinfection. However, the epidemic had negative socioeconomic consequences, primarily to small business and lower income groups.小特集 : 日本における生活水準の変化と生活危機への対応 : 1880年代-1980年代

小泉八雲ことラフカディオ・ハーンは、左目が失明しており右目は強度の近視であった。そんなハーンにとって、異国である日本で執筆活動をする上で重要となってくるのは、彼の耳の感覚であった。ハーンは数多くの「音」に関する文献や作品を残しており、特に日本本来の音や虫の声などを深く愛した作家であった。そういった自然の音の描写のほかにも、ハーンの作品には日本語がそのまま用いられている箇所が多く存在する。さらに言えば『Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan』の「By the Japanese Sea」にある話のように「Ototsan!Washi wo shimai ni shitesashita toki mo, kon ya no yona tsuki yo data ne?―Izumo dialect」と、ハーンが節子と暮らしていた土地である松江の方言が用いられている場面もあり、ハーンが何らかの意図を持って英文の中に日本語を配置したことが分かる。ハーンは節子や周囲の人々から聞いた話を物語として著しており、その点においても、ハーンとって耳は作品を書くために何より大切な商売道具であったと思われる。ハーンにとって聴覚がいかに大事であったか、その研究は今までにいくつもなされてきた。ハーンが耳を使う作家であることは上記した通り様々な先行研究がなされてきたが、それは虫や下駄の音といった日本の自然や伝統文化の音、もしくは『Kottō』の「The legend of Yurei-Daki」の中にある「Arà!it is blood!」といった日本語の響きの研究が主流であり、節子の出雲方言には今まであまり注目されてこなかった。しかしハーンの作品は出雲方言訛りの節子の語りを聴いて書かれたものが多く、ハーンの作品を読み解く上で節子の発音や出雲方言が重要であることは言うまでもない。日本語が母語ではないハーンには、日本人とは違うように音としての日本語が聞こえていたはずである。今回の研究では特に節子自身の言葉や、節子の出雲方言の影響がどれほどハーンの作品に現れているかを中心に考察しつつ、ハーンが出雲方言、ひいては日本語をどのように日本語を受け取っていたのかということを考えていく。この論文ではその手掛かりとして、ハーンが英文作品にそのまま取り入れた日本語を調査し、その真意を読み解いていくこととする。

Merkle and Hellman proposed a knapsack scheme using the superincreasing sequence as a trapdoor. Kasahara and Murakami introduced the trapdoor using even-odd check in shifted values of the secret sequence. These sequences are typical trapdoors of knapsack schemes using the modular multiplication. In this paper, we propose a method of combining these trapdoors. We also propose a high-density knapsack cryptosystem using the proposed trapdoor. Moreover, we discuss on the security of the proposed scheme against Shamir's attack and the low-density attack which are conventional attacks for knapsack schemes.

循環器領域におけるMRIやCTなどの非侵襲画像診断法は近年著しく進歩している.シネMRIは,左室だけでなく右室の壁運動や容積を,心エコーよりも高い再現性をもって評価できる.また,心筋の遅延造影MRIは心筋線維化などの組織性状の診断に優れており,複数のMRI撮影法を組み合わせることにより,各種心筋疾患の病態を総合的に診断することが可能となる.心臓MRIによる予後予測における有効性も多くの研究で示されており,心臓MRIは心不全患者や各種心筋症が疑われる患者において欠くことのできない検査法となっている.遅延造影MRIの弱点はびまん性の心筋線維化を検出できないことである.最近では,心筋線維化の程度を定量的に評価できるT1 mapping法が開発され,心筋疾患の有無と重症度を客観的に評価することが可能となっている.

本研究の目的は、共同意志決定 (SDM)を促進するツール(SHARE)を用いた包括的なSDMシステムの構築とその効果検証であった。SHAREは利用者のリカバリーゴール(希望する生活の実現に向けた目標)や自身の精神的健康にとって大切なこと、自身の状態を適切に医師に伝えることに焦点を当てたPCソフトウェアである。利用者は診察前にピアスタッフのサポートを受けながら自身の情報をSHAREに入力した。医師はSHAREの情報をもとに診察を進め、診察の最後にSDMを実施する。このSDMシステムは、臨床的なアウトカムに影響を及ぼすことはなかったが、患者と医師のコミュニケーションや関係性の向上に効果を示した。

Human has utilized various compounds and metals originated from plant kingdom and mineral resources and produced pharmaceuticals and cosmetics including Chinese medicine. The Edo era was likely to be the beginning of quality management and regulation on pharmaceuticals and chemical substances, and thereafter such regulation has been continued to date by adjusting scientific advancement according to the change of era. In this review, I would like to report and discuss regulation and safety evaluation of cosmetics, come in scientific concept of drugs and toxic compounds, requirement for scientific basis on drug efficacy, health hazard produced by drugs, quasi-drugs and cosmetics such as chronic lead-poisoning, allergic reaction and depigmentation, regulation and management happened and enforced. In addition, prospectives will be paid on the roles of drug metabolizing enzymes presented in the skin of human and animals, many practices of regulations and standards from manufacturing process to marketing, construction and development of alternative testing methods for safety evaluation of cosmetics on the basis of scientific and technological advancement.

Recently there were typical reports about the serious side-effect syndromes for the medicated cosmetics in Japan. One side-effect symptom was due to medicated soap with the hydrolyzed wheat powder so-called as “Cha No Sizuku Sekken.” This symptom was called as the food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (FDEIA). Another side-effect symptom was caused to rododendrol (4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-bunanol, HPBol) as the whitening agent. HPBol happened the serious side-effect of vitiligo against many users. In this report, I explain to describe the position of quasi drugs in Japan and to make clear to both the distribution of molecular weight about the hydrolyzed wheat powder described by Dr. Yoshiaki Ikarashi and the cause of giving the side-effect of rododendrol described by Takumi Akiyama.

「自然法則から因果的決定論は帰結しない」ということを示す。因果的決定論とは, 過去の確定性から, 因果の鎖を介して, 未来の確定性を導き出そうとする主張であるが, そのためには, 自然の斉一性(「未来は過去に似る」), 因果律(「どんな出来事にも原因がある」), 行為者因果の不可能性(「行為者を最初の原因とする因果関係はありえない」) が必要である。しかし, これらすべてを認めたとしても決定論は帰結しない。なぜなら, そもそも自然法則が成り立つためには背景条件(産出条件の現存と妨害条件の不在) が必要であり, 背景条件をあらかじめすべて特定することは不可能かつ不必要だからである。つまり, 自然法則は, 背景条件抜きでは, 未来に向かって因果の鎖を形成できるほど結果を一通りに決定する力を持たず, 自然法則の例外許容的性格と決定論の細部決定性の間のギャップは未来に関しては埋めることができない。なお, 関連する背景条件の総計を原因とする法則(完全法則) が仮にあれば因果的決定論は成り立つが, 既知の自然法則の内に完全法則はない。また, 完全法則は出来事を説明する力を持ちえないから「法則」として認めることはできない。

Aphids have a mutualistic relationship with the bacterial endosymbiont Buchnera aphidicola. We previously reported seven cysteine-rich peptides in the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum and named them Bacteriocyte-specific Cysteine-Rich (BCR) peptides; these peptides are exclusively expressed in bacteriocytes, special aphid cells that harbor symbionts. Similar symbiotic organ-specific cysteine-rich peptides identified in the root nodules of leguminous plants are named Nodule-specific Cysteine-Rich (NCR) peptides. NCR peptides target rhizobia in the nodules and are essential for symbiotic nitrogen fixation. A BacA (membrane protein) mutant of Sinorhizobium is sensitive to NCR peptides and is unable to establish symbiosis. Based on the structural and expressional similarities between BCR peptides and NCR peptides, we hypothesized that aphid BCR peptides exhibit antimicrobial activity, similar to some NCR peptides. We herein synthesized BCR peptides and investigated their antimicrobial activities and effects on the bacterial membrane of Escherichia coli. The peptides BCR1, BCR3, BCR5, and BCR8 exhibited antimicrobial activities with increased membrane permeability. An sbmA mutant of E. coli, a homolog of bacA of S. meliloti, was more sensitive to BCR peptides than the wild type. Our results suggest that BCR peptides have properties that may be required to control the endosymbiont, similar to NCR peptides in legumes.

SLATS is the first test satellite of JAXA to demonstrate operations at “super low orbit”below 400 km altitude, almost never used for long-life remote sensing. Lower altitudes will bring benefits for Earth observation such as higher resolution optical imaging and higher Signal/Noise ratio of Synthetic Aperture Radar. Small and High Resolution Optical Sensor (SHIROP) is a panchromatic camera to achieve under 1 meter resolution from super low altitudes. Pointing accuracy and image quality, which are influenced by atmospheric drag, ion engine and Time Delay Integration (TDI), are going to be evaluated. Techniques acquired by SLATS are planned to be used for future regional observation.

Formamidinium-type dehydrating reagents such as 2-chloro-1,3-dimthylimidazolinium chloride are useful as selective activators toward hemiacetal hydroxy groups at the sugar-reducing end in an aqueous media. This synthetic method enables us to obtain various sugar-containing compounds directly from the corresponding free saccharides using corresponding nucleophiles. Azide and aryl thiol act as suitable nucleophiles for this method and the resulting compounds are used as intermediates for glycoconjugates. This study aims to describe the progress of direct modification of the sugar-reducing end using a formamidinium-type electrophile.

I.まえがき 機能的残気量(Functional Residual Capa—city,以下F.R.C.と略す)の測定は,慢性肺気腫の診断並びにその程度の判定上大切であるばかりでなく,慢性肺疾患に於ける代償性肺気腫の有無,肺葉切除術後の残存肺膨脹の状態を知る上にも重要である。 F.R.C.の測定はかなり前から行われ,1932年のChristie1)の論文では当時まで発表されたF.R.C.の測定に関する約47篇の論文の詳細な考察を行いVan Slyke and Binger2)の方法が最も信頼性の高い方法であると述べている。この方法は水素をIndicator Gasとして用いているがChristieは之を改良し,爆発の危険性を除くために窒素をIndicator Gasとして用いる閉鎖回路法を発表した。この方法はその後かなり長く用いられ,閉鎖回路法としてはわが国では現在も尚行われている。1939年J.McMichaelはChristieの方法を追試しKatharometerを用い水素をIndicator Gasとして用いるConstant Volume Modificationを初めて発表した。1940年Darli—ng4)は酸素による開放回路法を発表し,その正確さ,再現性の高い点から米国その他に於て現在も尚広く用いられている。

動的なバランス制御を必要としない多足歩行機械は, 機能的にいくつかのレベルに分類されうる.筆者らは歩行機械の最低限の歩行機能として, (i) 二次元的歩行, (ii) 不整地における本体の水平保持, (iii) 本体の絶対高さの一定保持を定義している.<BR>ところで, 上記の機能を実現するのに必要かつ十分な能動自由度はいくつになるだろうか.自由度に関する考察は, 歩行機械を開発する際の基本のように思われるが, この問題についてはまだ十分に研究されていない.<BR>このような観点から, 本論文では静的安定でかつ最少の足数を有する4足歩行機械を使って能動自由度について調べている.その結果, 上記機能を実現する必要かつ十分な能動自由度は"6"であることを示している.

A 64-year-old man was diagnosed with MPO-ANCA-related systemic vasculitis in March, 2004, because of multiple mononeuropathies, an interstitial pneumonia, a rapidly-progressive glomerulonephritis which was demonstrated by a biopsied-specimen from kidney. High dose intraveneous methylprednisolne bolus-therapy following an oral prednisolone were transiently effective. In August, 2004, the serum level of MPO-ANCA elevated again, and a macular purpura appeared in both arms. A hundred mg/day of oral cyclophosphamide was added to the prednisolone. In February, 2005, he was re-admitted to our hospital because of muscle weakness of extremities mainly in the left arm and leg. Laboratory examination showed a pancytopenia, high serum levels of ferritin (more than 3000μg/ml) and of MPO-ANCA. Bone marrow-aspirated smear showed a number of hemophagocytosis by macrophages. His general status worsened with continuous pyrexia and a decreased level of consciousness. He died in April, 2005, in spite of the treatments including several antibiotics and anti-fungal agents. An abscess formation in the right frontal lobe demonstrated by the autopsy seemed to be responsible for his final outcome. Histologically, the narrowing of lumen and thickening of small vessels in several organs such as kidneys and lungs were observed. In this case, the serum levels of cytokines such as INF-γ, TNF-α, which play an important role for the pathogenesis of hemophagocytic syndrome were undetectable. On the other hand, the serum levels of IL-6, IL-10 and soluble IL-2 receptor were high. These cytokine profiles were compatible with those in compensatory anti-inflammatory response syndrome (CARS) which reflects a cachexic condition but not systemic vasculitis nor hemophagocytic syndrome.
