音象徴語をA型(1拍語基の語),AB型(2拍語基で,第2拍がラ行音以外の語),AR型(2拍語基で,第2拍がラ行音の語)の三つに分けて,擬音語がどのようなタイプの語に多く用いられているのかを調査した。型別では,擬音語としての用法をもつ語の割合はA型に多く,AR型には比較的少ない。それぞれの型においても,A型では「Aー,Aッ,Aン」,「AーAー,AッAッ,AンAン」タイプに,擬音語としての用法をもつ語が多く含まれているが,特に,引き音節の「Aー,AーAー」タイプのものに集中していた。AB型の語では,「ABリ」には擬音語として用いられる語があるにもかかわらず,「AッBリ,AンBリ」にはほとんどない。AR型では,語基に「リ」の添加された形の「ARリ,ARリARリ」等にはあまり擬音語として用いられる語はなく。「リ」の添加されない「ARAR,ARARッ」等が擬音語としての用法をもっていた。AB型,AR型では「リ」が添加されているか否かで,擬音語として用いられる語の分布に偏りが見られた。また,擬音語を意味分野別にみると,「動物・人の声」の擬音語,声を発するという行為に近い「吐く,吹く,吸う,呼吸する」ことを表す擬音語はA型に多かった。しかし,同様に口を使って行う行為でも「噛み砕く」はAR型,「飲み込む」はAB型の語に集中しており,意味分野によって,用いられる語のタイプに偏りがあることがわかった。

The use of onomatopoeic terms for describing food properties was studied. Fify-three onomatopoeic terms were selected to describe food properties by round-table discussion and questionnaires from 192 terms that had been collected from literature and free-answer questionnaires. A panel of 830 persons was asked whether the selected terms correctly expressed the properties of foods. Of the 648 returned questionnaires, 595 were considered valid and thus used for further analysis. More than 40% of the panel (with a confidence level of 95%) answered "yes" for almost all of the terms. A further analysis showed that the use of such terms as "mattari" and "boso-boso" differed according to the sex, age and/or degree of interest in food of the panelists.

本論文では, 外国人の擬態語・擬音語学習を支援する辞書システム JAMIOS (Japanese Mimesis and Onomatopoeia Dictionary System) について述べる. 日本人は擬態語や擬音語を頻繁に用いる. しかしこれらは, 日本語独特の表現であり感覚的な語のため, 日本語を学習する外国人にとり理解が困難である. そこで, 我々は状況・発音・意味・使い方・感覚などに着目し, 擬態語・擬音語知識を表現した. JAMIOSは, (1)使用する状況をマルチメディア情報により提示し, その状況や発音形態を変化させることで関連語の検索できる, (2)擬態語・擬音語の特徴に沿ったさまざまな知識や関連語を検索できるなどの特徴をもつ.

感性を表す言語であるオノマトペ(擬音語・擬態語)は新語・造語が多く,既存の辞書には語彙が不足している.また,既存の自然言語処理用コーパスにもオノマトペはあまり出現しない.そこで本研究では,自動生成したオノマトペ候補語をクエリとしてWeb上のテキストを検索し,候補語を含む用例を取得することでこれをコーパスとみなす.次に得られたコーパスを解析し,候補語がオノマトペかどうかの判定を行う.オノマトペと判断された語については,係り受け解析結果の頻度情報などを利用し,その語義や用法を得る.最後に,複数の候補語の語義を照らし合わせて,語義間の距離を定義したオノマトペ概念辞書を構築する.Onomatopoeias which express sensibility include many new words and coined words, and the existing dictionaries are insufficient of their vocabularies. Furthermore, onomatopoeias seldom appear in the existing corpus for natural language processing. In this work, we generate candidate words of onomatopoeias automatically and search the text on the Web with a search engine using the candidates as a query. Therefore we can acquire a corpus containing examples of the candidates. Then, we process the corpus and judge whether each candidate is onomatopoeia or not. If a candidate is judged to be an onomatopoeia, we give its sense and usage from results of syntactic analysis, and construct a concept dictionary of onomatopoeias.

Strange sounds generated by machines are expressed by onomatopoeia. And onomatopoeia expresses trouble or poor condition of the machines. Especially, many kinds of onomatopoeia are used for expressing strange sound of automobiles, and the relationship between onomatopoeia and the sources of strange sound is reported. In this study application of onomatopoeia for expressing strange sound is discussed. Onomatopoeia is language which people utter. Therefore it is necessary to clarify the relationship between the frequencies perceived to sound like the onomatopoeic word and uttered sounds. In this report, we paid attention to both the vowel and the consonant of uttered sound of onomatopoeia. As a result we found that the utterance time of a consonant changes by the mechanism of utterance. And the ratio of energy between the vowel and the consonant influences frequency of the sound that an onomatopoeia expresses.

遠隔作業支援において, 映像だけでは伝え難い力情報などを効率的に伝達する手法の実現を目指す. 伝統技術の伝承や, スポーツの分野では微妙な力加減を擬音語で表現して伝達していることに注目し, 音による力情報提示により遠隔地からの作業支援を行う手法を提案する. カメラとプロジェクタとを用いて双方向コミュニケーション環境のプロトタイプを構築し, その上で, 一自由度の力加減を, 周波数変調を行った音で提示する基礎実験を行った. 実験結果から, ゆっくりと加えられる力加減の伝達において音による提示が有効であることを確認した.

We have performed basic experiments for the purpose of applying onomatopoeia to engineering problems. In these experiments, test subjects were made to perform lifting actions while listening to onomatopoeic utterances. We thereby demonstrated that there is a relationship between the onomatopoeic utterances and the lifting forces exerted by the test subjects. We examined how the lifting forces are related to the magnitude of the onomatopoeic utterances and the envelope of these sounds. Furthermore, by comparing this phenomenon with the effects of simple tones and white noise, we investigated how the lifting force is affected depending on whether or not emotion is expressed when uttering the onomatopoeia.
