In this article I have translated and annotated the "Way of Enthronement (Inzira Y'Uubwimika)" from the esoteric royal ritual code (ubwiru) of Rwanda. Once enthroned, the Rwandan king was no longer a human being. This transformation was accomplished through two ritual processes. In the first process a prince became a king by receiving the regalia, taking oaths, and obtaining the public approval. In the second process the new king acquired the supreme power through his participation in the rituals to regenerate the kingdom. Throughout the "Way of Enthronement" was emphasized the military power of the new king to gain triumphs over the enemy kingdoms. This reflected the fact that Rwanda was incessantly at war during the eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries. It was also mainly from the military concerns that the interregnum was made shortest.本稿はルワンダの王朝秘典ubwieuから「即位の道」(Inzira Y'Uubwimika)に訳・注をつけた。ルワンダでは王は人間ではなく、即位式が人間を王に変えた。即位式は二つの儀礼過程から成る。一つは、先王からのレガリアの引継、宣誓、公衆への顔見せと承認によって一人の王子が王になる過程である。もう一つは、王国を甦らせる諸儀礼の主役を演じることを通じて新王が至高性を獲得していく過程である。「即位の道」で、終始一貫して強調されるのは王の軍事機能、敵国に勝つ能力である。これは18–19世紀のルワンダが恒常的な臨戦態勢をとっていたことと符合する。空位期を「乗り越えるべき難局」と見なし、手早く新王を即位させてしまうのも、軍事的配慮が大きく作用していたと思われる。この軍事の卓越にルワンダの即位式の一つの大きな特徴を見ることができるだろう。

2002年5月22日〜24日に開催されたゲーム関連の展示会「Electronic Entertainment Expo(E3)2002」。今回のE3における話題の中心は,昨年と同様「オンライン」だった1)。その戦略に関しては「Xbox」を擁する米Microsoft Corp.と「プレイステーション2(PS2)」のソニー・コンピュータエンタテインメント(SCE),「ゲームキューブ」の任天堂が,三者三様の対応を見せている。

Snakebite accidents by the South American rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus account for 10% of those occurred in Brazil. It induces severe neurological symptoms, but does not induce pain or severe tissue destruction at the site of inoculation, which is in contrast to the most other snakebites. Due to these properties, the crude venom of this snake used to be employed for controlling pain, for example, of cancer. Recent studies using the crude venom experimentally demonstrated that this venom shows antinociceptive effect more potent than morphine. This effect is orally active and long-lasting for 3-5 days, and despite mediated by opioid receptors, it dose not develop peripheral tolerance nor induce physical dependence unlike morphine. These remarkable properties prompted us to purify and chemically characterize the substance responsible for the analgesic effect. Bioassay-guided fractionation led to the isolation of a novel peptide, designated crotalphine, with a sequence of 14 amino acid residues having a single disulfide bond. We report herein the isolation, sequence determination and synthesis of crotalphine. Pharmacological evaluation using synthetic peptide will also be reported.

<p>吹田市立博物館では、新型コロナに関連する資料の収集を行っている。こうした資料は、次世代の人々が感染拡大の実態を知る上で貴重な歴史資料となる。同館ではまた、新型コロナに関連したミニ展示を開催した。収集資料の一部を展示することで、次なる収集につなげることとともに、コロナ禍が日本や地域社会に何をもたらしたのか、また私たちに何を託したのか、来館者一人一人が、これからの日本のあり方、みずからの生き方を考えるきっかけとしてもらうことを目的としていた。モノからコトへ、というように博物館の社会的役割が変化する時代の中で、モノとともに市民による新型コロナ体験の証言を収集・アーカイブする活動が重要となろう。</p>

The objective of the present paper is to discuss the application of nonplanar wings such as Whitcomb’s winglet to new subsonic transport airplanes. A simple numerical method has been developed to calculate the minimum induced drag for a wing of an arbitrary nonplanar configuration, using the Trefftz-plane(far-field) analysis and the Lagrangean multiplier technique. For a series of wing/winglet combinations and several more complex forms such as curved wings, the value of the induced drag efficiency parameter‘l/e’is evaluated and compared with that of a conventional planar wing. When comparing the induced drag benefits, it is assumed that both wings have the same‘extended’wing planform rather than the‘projected’one. And, to take account of the trade-offs between wing aerodynamic efficiency and wing structural weight, the wing root bending moment as well as the wing total lift are kept constant. With these constraints, the drag performances for both wings could be compared without any ambiguity associated with structural weight and wing surface skin friction. The results obtained show that the minimum induced drag of every nonplanar wing analyzed here is not less than that of a planar wing except in the case of relatively small values of restricted wing root bending moment. Thus, it is concluded that a planar wing is superior to a nonplanar wing from the view point of cruise drag performance.

McLuhan's "Understanding Media" is well known for its difficulty in understanding. Especially his concept of "hot / cool" medium is central symbol of difficulty and ambiguity of the book. In this article, I try to restructure the concept for better understanding and application of McLuhan's thought. I try to decompose the concept to three conceptual dimensions. Its first dimension is the dimension of social context: openness of interpretation. Its second dimension is the dimension of medium format: displacement easiness of medium. Its third dimension is the dimension of synaesthesia. On the third dimension, I propose that we should treat it as completely different dimension from "hot / cool" concept.
