75歳男性。糖尿病性腎症による末期腎不全にて維持血液透析中,透析導入10年後に血清亜鉛55 µg/dlと低下し,亜鉛含有胃粘膜保護薬(polaprezinc)の処方が開始されると,徐々に汎血球減少が出現・持続した。投与開始4ヶ月後,血清亜鉛129 µg/dlと上昇し,亜鉛含有胃粘膜保護薬の投与は中止されたが汎血球減少は進行し,当科に紹介された。WBC 1,700/µl,Hb 8.9 g/dl,Plt 9.5×104/µlと汎血球減少を認め,WT1 mRNA 76 copy/µgRNAと若干高値だった。骨髄像で巨赤芽球様変化や環状鉄芽球があり,骨髄異形成症候群を鑑別に挙げたが,血清銅<2 µg/dl,血清セルロプラスミン3 mg/dlと低値であり,亜鉛過剰に起因する銅欠乏による造血障害と考えた。ココアの摂取による銅の補充で汎血球減少は改善し,補充開始4ヶ月後の骨髄像で当初の形態異常は消失した。慢性腎臓病患者や透析患者の亜鉛補充時には銅欠乏による造血障害に注意が必要と考えられた。

The 30-seconds all-out sprint test on the cycle ergometer was performed by 10 high school and 13 college men’s cyclists. In addition, this study investigated their best time for 200 m (200mTT) and 1000 m (1000mTT) time trials in the velodrome. This study clarifies the relationship between muscle thickness of thigh, shank, and trunk and 1) the average speed for the 200mTT and 2) the 1000mTT in the field, and 3) the mean power of the 30-seconds all-out sprint cycling test. 1) The average speed for the 200mTT significantly correlated with the muscle thickness of posterior shank and front and lateral abdomen. 2) The average speed for the 1000mTT significantly correlated with the muscle thickness of posterior thigh and shank and front and lateral abdomen. 3) The mean power of the 30-seconds all-out sprint cycling test significantly correlated with the muscle thickness of anterior and posterior thigh, posterior shank, and front and lateral abdomen. Except for the average speed for the 200mTT and 1000mTT, the mean power of the 30-seconds all-out sprint cycling test was significantly related to the muscle thickness of anterior thigh. These results suggest that increasing muscle thickness of posterior thigh and shank and front and lateral abdomen is important for enhancing performance in sprint cycling.

At a theme park or entertainment show, actors wearing a cartoon-character costumes entertain guests. Unfortunately, existing cartoon-character costumes have heads with a fixed facial expression. We propose a novel cartoon-character costume where the head is equiped with a web camera inside and display panel outside. When an actor wears the head, the web camera captures the face of the actor. Based on the pattern classification technique, the facial expression is classified into one of five categories of emotion: anger, joy, sadness, surprise and neutrality. For each category, a corresponding facial image is chosen from a bank of facial images of cartoon characters. The chosen image is depicted on the display panel as the face in real time. The new costume head enables the actor to communicate with audiences interactively and play the other characters immediately by changing the facial image bank.

災害常襲国である日本において,土地利用マネジメントを含めた事前復興計画の推進は急務であるが,土木史的な視座を踏まえて,危険地帯への市街地進出要因を考慮した制度設計がなされているとは言い難い.そこで本研究では,東日本大震災,西日本豪雨で被災した5都市の都市形成史と災害後の都市計画的対応を比較分析し,各都市で甚大な被害を生むに至った空間的要因とその経緯を解明することを目的とする.近代以降の交通基盤整備や土地区画整理事業等の都市基盤整備が実施された位置や規模を,分析の視点とする.次の災害への備えとしての災害防御インフラの整備と,土地の利便を逓増させる交通基盤・都市基盤整備とが連動して行われたかどうかが,災害後に減災型都市構造へ転換する分岐点となったことを明らかにした.

This study aimed to develop the assessment of muscle strength and endurance in climbers, and clarify the profiles of muscle strength and endurance in Lead climbers, in relation to performance levels. Muscular strength and endurance, using a traditional hand grip strength dynamometer and an original new climbing-specific grip strength and endurance test, were determined in 12 male non-climbers and 40 male Lead climbers who were categorized into four groups (control, beginner, intermediate and expert). All muscular strength and endurance test were significantly associated with climbing performances (ρ=0.674 -0.747, p<0.05). Differences among the four groups were more marked in climbingspecific strength and endurance than in traditional hand grip strength. Traditional hand grip strength was significantly higher for control group than for beginner and intermediate group. Therefore it is insufficient to evaluate muscle strength of Lead climbers only by traditional hand grip strength, whereas the climbing-specific strength tests used here can be used to evaluate the muscle strength and endurance profiles of Lead climbers in relation to climbing performance.

BCG-CWS was administered in 30 patients with primary lung cancer, and in most cases this was in conjunction with other therapeutic procedures such as irradiation, chemotherapy and/or surgery.Oil-attached BCG-CWS was prepared by homogenizing 4mg of BCG-CWS, two drops of mineral oil and 2ml of 0.2% Tween 80 saline.Two hundred μg of BCG-CWS was injected intradermally every week. In patients with carcinomatous pleuritis, 400μg of BCG-CWS was injected into the pleural cavity every week.Prolonged survival periods in advanced lung cancer cases treated with BCG-CWS was observed in comparison with historical controls. Most of the patients showed increased PPD skin reaction and increased in vitro PHA response after BCG-CWS administration.As adverse reactions, minimal skin ulceration was observed in 37% of the patients, and fever in 57% after repeated intradermal injection of BCG-CWS, none of which necessitated the interruption of immunotherapy. No serious side effects, however, have been observed during the BCG-CWS treatment.

Aphasia greatly influences a patient's quality of life (QOL). Recovery from aphasia requires a long time, and improvements in anterior language function can be difficult to achieve. Aphasia is a major obstacle for returning to work and thus can have serious economic consequences.The diagnosis of aphasia requires a qualitative assessment (classification of type of aphasia) and a quantitative judgment (severity assessment). Importantly, the various symptoms that constitute the pathology of aphasia must be understood when making a qualitative assessment. Quantitative assessments must also be evaluable using a systematic objective test.The mainstream of aphasia treatment is the classical stimulus–facilitation method. Recently, a cognitive neuropsychological approach, a pragmatic approach, and Melodic Intonation Therapy have also attracted attention as possible therapies. Furthermore, studies on pharmacotherapy and noninvasive therapy for aphasia are proceeding.The psychosocial study of aphasic persons and their families has become a very important theme. Lately, a depression rating scale and a QOL rating scale for people with aphasia, a family's communication burden scale, and a communication self–efficacy scale have been developed. Clinically, it is important to provide hospitable support to both people with aphasia and their families.

海洋観測機器の製作コストやランニングコストを下げるため,プリント基板をエポキシ樹脂に直接固定し,水中や海底で使用するLED光源とチャージポンプを開発,それぞれ耐圧試験や実海域での作動を確認した.LED光源は水深約9200 mの海底に5回投入したが,物理的な破損もLEDの故障も生じなかった.この光源を基に製作したものをトンガ海溝,ホライゾン海淵(水深10800 m)の海底で使用,堆積物直上の様子や底生生物活動のハイビジョン撮影に成功した.チャージポンプには圧力に弱い電解コンデンサが必要なため,樹脂で固定する前にコンデンサをカプセルで覆い,人工的な気泡の中に配置することで圧力から保護する手法を開発した.この手法で樹脂固定して製作したチャージポンプと赤色LEDを,伊平屋北熱水フィールド(水深1053 m)内の人工熱水噴出孔における深海電池の発電実験に供した.結果,LEDの点灯により発電が確認された.エポキシ樹脂は海水,温度,圧力,光などによって劣化することが知られているが,深海環境における強度や透明度の変化についての知見はいまだ乏しいため,長期設置と強度試験による寿命の推定が今後の課題となろう.

研究期間において、(1)現場深海熱水噴出孔において硫化物チムニーの内外で600mV程度の起電力が潜在的に存在し、実際の電子伝達能を有していること、(2)にもかかわらず、実験室内実験において、チムニーに生息する微生物群集を植種源として、天然チムニー電極や様々な電極を支持体とした電気合成微生物群集の増殖が観察されないこと、が明らかになった。これらの結果を踏まえて、深海熱水現場環境での電気合成微生物群集の増殖実験を行い、電気合成微生物群集の形成を示唆する結果を得た。自然深海熱水噴出孔のチムニーにおいて電気合成微生物群集が生育可能であることが明らかになった。

本研究提案では、遠隔的酸化還元反応によって環境中に発生する電流を積極的に利用する「環境電流生態系」が存在するという作業仮説を立て、その存在量とメカニズムを解明することを目的とした。本課題において、我々は熱水噴出孔で電流が発生することを、鉱物の電気特性、鉱物の触媒特性、熱水と海水の酸化還元電位、現場発電試験などを通して照明した。さらに、微生物がこの環境電流環境下で鉱物表面に付着することも明らかにした。現場での長期微生物培養試験は天候不良の影響により実現できなかったが、疑似環境下における電流利用微生物の集積培養については今後の進展に期待が持てる。
