Epidemiology in the field of sports science is relatively new compared to other areas, such as exercise physiology and biomechanics; however, it is currently one of the most popular disciplines. Physical fitness has been a traditional topic in exercise (or physical activity) epidemiology since the late 1980s. In Japan, a pioneer study investigating “fitness epidemiology”, the Tokyo Gas Study, was published in 1993. Since then, however, trends in fitness epidemiology have changed and two main trends have emerged: large-scale studies and the subdivision of study objectives. An increasing number of large-scale cohort studies using fitness as an exposure variable have been published since the mid-2010s, confirming the findings reported by smaller-scale studies, but with higher external validity and robustness. Moreover, large-scale studies have enabled examination of the association between physical fitness and comprehensive health outcomes, including all-cause and disease-specific mortality and incidence of noncommunicable disease. However, researchers now must fill current knowledge gaps and develop more detailed study questions, which has resulted in a subdivision of study objectives. Accordingly, this short review addresses current trends in fitness epidemiology and introduces the author’s findings from a series of studies investigating the cumulative influence of physical fitness on the risk for lifestyle-related disease(s). In addition, it briefly discusses muscle-strengthening activity epidemiology, which has recently attracted attention as a new frontier beyond fitness epidemiology.

Although previous researches have shown that our spatial understanding is determined by the multiple sensory information such as vision and touch, how the effect of visuo-tactile integration works on the sense of body ownership, agency and self-localization has been unrevealed. In this study, we built a telexistence system to investigate the effect of combined visual and tactile information by allowing the participants to see their own back via surrogate robot, while applying stimuli on their hand and back synchronously. The participants' answers on questionnaires revealed that they experienced reality in the position of robot in a remote location, rather than their own bodies, through the experiment. This result provided evidence for the efficient enhancement of visuo-tactile integration on self-localization, body ownership, and the sense of agency in a telexistence settings.

1978年の 「日米防衛協力のための指針」 策定は、従来、秘密裡になされていた共同計画策定が公式化された、日米安全保障関係史上、画期的な出来事だと位置づけられる。本論文では、この 「指針」 策定をもたらす契機となった米国側のイニシアチブ、すなわち公式化要請の背景には、従来見逃されてきた、米国の国内政治要因があったのではないかとの仮説を提示する。具体的には、米=タイ間の秘密裡の共同計画が米軍の越権により策定された等と議会で問題視されたことを受け、日本との同様のそれについても批判を受けるのではないかと危惧されたことが背景にあったとする。他方、 「指針」 策定作業においては、この米国側の要請を受けた日本側が 「指針」 の基礎となる文書を起草する等、イニシアチブを取ることとなった。これは、日本の国内政治上の理由より、共同計画策定が秘密裡に実施されるようになったとの歴史的経緯より、公式化を実現する上では、日本側が自らの問題を解決すること、すなわち、日本国内において共同計画策定に関する政治的なコンセンサスを形成することが最も重要な課題であったことに由来する。

徳島県に所在する地方港湾撫養港の海岸保全施設において,南海トラフを震源とする地震による津波から背後地域を防護するため,既設の海岸保全施設を改良する事業を実施した.当該事業においては,様々な制約条件がある中で,適した既存の地盤改良工法を選定するだけではなく,地盤改良を行う作業船の改造,当時は開発中であった砂圧入式静的締固め工法の採用,及び,背後企業体の施設更新に併せた工事による作業用地の確保といった,主として地盤改良に関するマネジメントが効果を発揮した.本論文においては,厳しい施工条件下での既設護岸の耐震化にあたって,地盤改良工法の選定にかかるマネジメントによって対応した事例について述べる.

This paper examines the concept of the state as set forth in two political pamphlets by Philipp Etter: The Swiss Democracy (1933) and The Reform of the Fatherland and We (1934). Etter was then a member of the Council of States representing the Catholic Conservative Party. The publication of these two texts was contemporary with the seizure of power in Germany by the Nazis and the emergence of pro-Nazi parties in Switzerland. After asserting the end of liberalism and the dangers of social democracy, Etter proposed a “Third Way.” This was an inherently dangerous proposal, however, because the Third Way generally referred to fascism or Nazism. Nonetheless, Etter clearly rejected the centralizing methods of the Nazis and justified his approach with reference to Switzerland’s strong decentralization. Moreover, he regarded the vocational order advocated by Pope Pius XI in his encyclical Quadragesimo anno (1931) as an ideal, though one that was realized in the contemporary fascist regimes of Italy and Austria. By eliminating centralizing elements from this ideal of vocational order, Etter attempted to “swissize” it. His concept of the state was brought to fruition in the form of a “corporatist state without dictators” between the late 1930s and 1950s, when he was a member of the Federal Council.

本研究は、今日勃興しつつある信用スコアサービス、およびその基礎にある与信管理技術に関し、受容意向という側面に着目し、社会学の立場からこの種の対象を総合的に扱うための枠組を構築しようとするものである。すなわち、第一に、信用スコアに関するデータを収集・整理し、国内外の社会学研究者や他分野の研究者のさらなる探究に資するデータベースを作成し、公開する。第二に、信用スコアの受容意向に関する実態調査を行い、結果を公表する。第三に、上記データベースと調査結果の分析および考察を通じ、「信用スコアの社会学」を確立し、与信管理技術を代表例とする新技術の社会的影響という広範なテーマを扱える社会学理論の創造をはかる。

Visual-motor reaction time to 6 light signals was measured in case that the probability of each signal was not equal. It proved not to be proportional to the entropy of information sources, and was shorter than reaction time to selective signals of equal probabilities. The judgement period in terms of the difference cf the reaction time and motion time was significantly correlated with the signal probability. It was the larger, the smaller was the display probability of the signal. If 64 red lamps were placed on a panel in forms of 88 cm squares, the judgement period without previous instruction of the lamp positions to be lit was delayed, especially when the entropy of information sources was larger. The relational shortening of the reaction time for unequal signal probabilitiest uneven concentration of attention was discussed.

ハシブトガラス Corvus macrorhynchosはヒトにとって身近で馴染み深い存在にも関わらず,その生活史や行動,認知について未解明な部分が多い.本研究では,ハシブトガラスの貯食行動における貯食場所の選好性に焦点を当て観察した.その結果,ハシブトガラスは貯食場所として樹高の高い常緑針葉樹の樹冠部を好むことが明らかになった.このことは,ハシブトガラスが貯食時にエサを隠すのにより有利な場所を選択していることを示唆している.

The validity of the application of the Cepstral/Spectral Index of Dysphonia (CSID) to Japanese dysphonic speech was examined by analyzing normal and breathy voice samples both produced by healthy Japanese volunteers with no vocal problems. Four Japanese sentences which had phonological similarities to the English test sentences were prepared for the application of the CSID. The voice samples included sustained vowel /a/ and the four sentences.The CSID was applied for analyzing both the sustained vowel and the four sentences. Established indices based on pitch synchronous analyses, such as period perturbation quotient (PPQ), amplitude perturbation quotient (APQ) and noise to harmonic ratio (NHR) were applied to the samples of the sustained vowel.For the grade of the hoarseness and the breathiness, auditory perceptual evaluations of Japanese speech sentences and the sustained vowel were performed using a visual analog scale (VAS). GRBAS scale was used for evaluations of the sustained vowel only.Strong statistical relationships were found between the CSID and the three indices with pitch synchronous analyses. Furthermore, the CSID had strong statistical relationships with the two auditory perceptual evaluations as well, which was equal to relationships between the auditory perceptual evaluations and the indices with pitch synchronous analyses. Given that the CSID can be used to analyze speech samples whereas the indices with pitch synchronous analysis have certain technical problems to analyze speech samples, this index is considered to be applicable as a useful measure for evaluating vocal dysfunction of Japanese speech and should be used actively in clinical settings.
