高齢者を対象とする日常着についての調査より, 高齢者の衣服の着方について以下のような特徴がみられた.<BR>(1) 男性は, 上半身に肌着シャツ, 外衣シャツ, ジャケットかジャンパーの着用が一般的であるが, 5・6月ごろの気温の変化には, 肌着シャツの重ね着で対応していることがわかった.下半身には, パンツ, ズボン下にズボンを着用している.<BR>(2) 女性は, 上半身に肌着シャツ, ブラウス, セーター類を着用している例が最も多かった.上半身用衣服には前あき型で七分袖のものが多く, 肌着シャツの重ね着は男子と同様であった.また, 下半身には, パンツ, 長パンツやズボン下そしてズボンかスカートを着用している.夏に向けてスカート・ワンピースの着用が増すが, パンツ類の着用は依然として多く, 足腰の冷えと着衣の関連性をうかがわせる結果であった.また, 服種は男性のものにくらべ女性のほうが多い.<BR>(3) 高齢者用衣服の素材には, 下着類に綿, 外衣に化学繊維が多く使用され, 天然繊維を志向する若者と対照的である.素材に関する知識は一般に低かった.<BR>(4) 着衣の種類より推定した衣服の熱抵抗と衣服重量より, 高齢者は, 若者にくらべ厚着の傾向がみられるが, 衣服の着方に個人差が大きい.<BR>以上の結果より, 高齢者のよりよい衣生活をめざして次のような点が望まれる.<BR>服種の多様化 : 高齢者の日常着の種類をみるとき, 男性では, ジャケットやジャンパーの着用が多い.それにくらべて女性はカジュアルなセーター類の着用が多い.男性は, 習慣的に外出用としてこの種の衣服を着用していると考えられるが, 家庭内ばかりでなく近所等に出かけるときにも, 軽量で伸縮性に富む衣服の着用が勧められる.女性については, 若年者にくらべ衣服の種類が少ないが, 夏になるとスカートやワンピースの着用者も増えるなどおしゃれに無関心でないことが推察される.そこで, ファッション性を取り入れた衣服の供給が望まれる.たとえばキュロットスカートなどは活動がしやすい衣服の例として考えられる.<BR>衣服の着方と形・素材の工夫 : 男女とも, 体温調節のため厚着傾向の人が多数を占めていたが, 少ない枚数でも重ね着をすると同効果が得られるような衣服, とくに下着類の充実が求められる.すなわち, 腰, ひざやひじの冷えを防ぐよう局所的に厚手のものにするなど構成と形の工夫, 熱抵抗性の高い布素材の利用, また, 重ね着をしても活動に支障をきたさないような伸縮性素材の使用などが考えられる.一方で着衣の量に個人差が大きいことから, 季節を問わず, 保温性の高いものから低いものまで多種多様な衣服の供給が望まれる.<BR>表示の改善 : 素材についての知識は一般に低いので, 組成や洗濯表示を見やすく, わかりやすい大きさで表示されるよう改善を促す必要がある.

2013年6 月にプノンペンで開催された第37回世界遺産委員会において、雲南省南部の哀牢山脈に広がる「紅河ハニ棚田群の文化的景観(Cultural Landscape of Honghe Hani Rice Terraces)」の世界遺産登録が決定した。わたしはこの喜ぶべき一報を、世界遺産指定地域から50㎞ほど離れたハニ族の村落で手にしたが、その時点では登録決定の事実はおろか、世界遺産とは何かを知る村人にすら誰一人として出会わなかった。本稿では、そこで事態を説明する役割を担った私自身を巻き込む対話を通じて形成された、ハニ族の村落コミュニティにおけるローカルな「世界遺産」認識の一例を紹介し、さらにそこから浮かび上がる論点として、ハニ族が自らの文化をどのように概念化しているのかを検討する。 近年の中国では、文化遺産の制度的認定を求める機運がますます高まりつつある。それに呼応して学術界においても文化の資源化をめぐる議論が活発に行われおり、紅河ハニ棚田の世界遺産登録もまた、地元出身の文化研究者たちが現地政府に働きかけて声高に主導してきた申請運動が実を結んだものであった。したがって、世界遺産委員会の認めるところとなったハニ族の文化とは、少なからず政治的な戦略のもとで描かれてきた文化像を下敷きにしたものにほかならず、そこから棚田に暮すハニ族の今日的な村落生活をうかがうことは難しい。本稿では、世界遺産登録を契機として際限なく拡散されつつあるこうした「ハニ族文化」と、ハニ族が語る自らの「文化」のすれ違いについて具体的に検討していく。

Smaller hens's eggs and yolks are composed of smaller yolk spheres, and vice-versa for larger yolks. We examined whether the size of the yolk spheres was related to the size of eggs and yolks in eggs from different birds. The cross-sectional area of the yolk spheres in the intermediate layer of steamed yolks was measured by the image-processing technique. The weights of the eggs and yolks from different birds were greatest in the ostrich (>duck>White-Leghorn>Nagoya>guinea fowl>quail). The weight of an ostrich egg was about 25 times greater than that of hen eggs, and about 120 times greater than that of quail eggs. The cross-sectional area of yolk spheres was greatest in the White-Leghorn (>ostrich>duck>Nagoya>quail>guinea fowl). There was no significant correlation between the cross-sectional area of yolk spheres and the yolk weight in eggs from different birds (r=0.12). The kinds of bird egg cannot be identified by the different cross-sectional areas of the yolk spheres.

公共の使用のために作った営造物の管理がずさんで,事故につながる例が後を絶たない。たとえ仮設構造物でも,使命を終えたからといって管理を怠ることは許されない。 1996年3月17日の午前2時30分ごろ,鳥取市内を流れる千代川の河川敷で土砂が崩落し,中学生4人が生き埋めになる事故が発生した。砂質土のたい積した地形に沿って盛り土をし,その上に建設した工事用道路が崩れた。

Although the removal of bacteria in the oral cavity is regarded as an important preventive measure against pneumonia, the majority of elderly individuals are rarely provided with oral care-related information. This study examined the usefulness of oral care-related information provision for the elderly by pharmacists working at drugstores. A questionnaire survey was conducted, involving 387 pharmacists working at drugstores and 51 elderly individuals who visited such stores. Oral care-related information had been actively provided by 14.5% of the pharmacists, and 62.5% of all oral care products were being sold as care products. When focusing on the elderly, 70.6% showed interest in oral care, but the proportion of those who had performed self-care to promote such health was limited to 5.9%. After being provided with oral care-information, 97.6% answered “I wish to regularly perform oral self-care”, and 86.3% regarded oral care-related information provision by pharmacists as “very useful”. The results of this study demonstrate the usefulness of information provision by pharmacists at drugstores to promote oral self-care among the elderly.

Skeletal muscle has an important role besides its obvious function in physical movement and locomotion; namely, it maintains whole-body metabolism. Maintaining muscle mass and quality with regular exercise is closely related to quality of life and a healthy life expectancy. However, the ways that exercise, and muscle contraction, in particular, contribute to our health has not been analyzed in detail. Progressive elucidation of the intracellular mechanisms underlying the metabolic changes induced by exercise/contraction and the hormones secreted from skeletal muscle (called myokines) is providing new insights into how exercise affects our health. To research these mechanisms in muscle contraction, various in vivo and in vitro experimental models have been developed. This review article outlines the existing skeletal muscle contraction models in rodents. Each model has its advantages and disadvantages. It is important to keep such features in mind when selecting an appropriate contraction model for the particular experimental purpose.

日本事情科目については、以前から複数の教員から実施についての疑問の声が上がっていた。その声は、例えば「学生にとって本当に有益な科目の提供ができているか」「あるいは「学生が本当に授業を理解しているか」というものであった。国際センターでは日本事情科目の管理運営を任されているという立場から、こういった科目の具体的な見直しを図るために、授業担当教員からの声を集めることにした。This is a Report of the Survey on the NIHONJIJYO subjects which have been held every year to help undergraduate foreign students to understand what is now going on in Japan and what they should know about very basic social, legal and scientific history of Japan. I did this survey because I heard some complaints about those subjects from some lecturers in charge of them and also because at ISC we agreed that it is time to renew those subjects into more effective ones.

The bigger the size of ship becomes, the more complicate questions arise on the hull construction. The gunwale connection in the mammouth ship is one of the most grave questions, because of the poor purchasability of the big size gunwale angles, the hard workmanship on the riveting of large diametres, and etc. As the countermeasures for the above-mentioned questions, the Tee-section or angle built-up by welding, or else the rounded gunwale, were already proposed.<BR>The authors examine the current practices of the gunwale connection in the mammouth ship and propose a new type of welded gunwale, "L-gunwale", as the most promising.
