In order to find out how an eco-tour in a primeval forest affects the stress, perceived physical condition and feeling of the participants, the authors organized a tour to Suigenchinomori, a primeval forest in Kawakami Village, Nara Prefecture. Results indicate changes in the participants’ stress, perceived physical condition and feeling during the tour. These three variables were measured at three points on the route. The stress of the participants decreased on average during the tour from the first to the second point, whereas from the second to the third point it increased. At the individual level the stress of two participants increased and that of the other four decreased. From the second to the third point it increased on average. At the individual level it increased with two participants and decreased with three participants, staying the same for one case. The authors plan to improve the research design based on these result, and continue the same kind of tours in order to collect more data, performing not only statistical tests to determine any general effects but also qualitative examinations on individual differences.

現在のコンピュータシステムにおいて,高速な処理を行うためのキャッシュメモリの導入及び,複数のタスクを切り替えながら実行するマルチタスク処理が必要不可欠なものとなっている.マルチタスク処理においてタスクスイッチ時にダーティラインを主記憶へ退避させる必要がある.本研究では,性能オーバーヘッドを低減することでプロセッサの性能が向上すると考え,性能オーバーヘッドの原因となるキャッシュメモリ中のダーティラインに着目する.タスクスイッチによる性能オーバーヘッドを実験的に知ることで,性能オーバーヘッドを低減させるスケジューリングが開発可能になると考えられる.本稿では,タスクスイッチ実験を行い,タスクスイッチによって追い出されるダーティラインに起因する性能オーバーヘッドの定量的評価を行った.実験の結果,性能オーバーヘッドはプログラム及び,タイムスライスの影響を受け,タスクスイッチを行わなかった場合よりも最大で37%程度の実行サイクルが増加することが分かった.

In this case study, focusing on the implementation of the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) for weather forecasting in Japan, the authors investigate a process of value-adding to scientific information, which we hope could give a hint for knowledge management. Unlike the received wisdom of the “linear model” which assumes that “basic” science is eventually applied to technology or that the users of technology only passively receive what the designers and the providers have made, the Sun Protection Factor has been established as a quantitative index of ultraviolet radiation by the cosmetics industry, rather a potential user of meteorological information services. The provider of meteorological information, the Japan Weather Association (JWA), then could adopt and appropriate the framework of ultraviolet forecasting which has been presented by the cosmetics industry. The authors hope that this case study which investigates the initiative of an industry which is sensitive to the ordinary consumers, particularly to women, in the market could contribute to an understanding of how a user-friendly scientific information market could be formed and transformed.

筋萎縮性側索硬化症(amyotrophic lateral sclerosis:ALS)は,大脳皮質運動野の上位運動ニューロンおよび脳幹と脊髄の下位運動ニューロンが選択的かつ系統的に障害される進行性の神経変性疾患である.ALSで障害されるα運動ニューロンは,構成する運動単位からFF(fast-twitch fatigable),FR(fast-twitch fatigue-resistant),S(slow-twitch)と3つのサブタイプに分類され,FF,FR,S型α運動ニューロンの順番で変性が生じる.近年,マトリクスメタロプロテアーゼ9(MMP9)がFF型α運動ニューロンに発現し,変性誘導に関与することが報告された.我々は,細胞外マトリクス(ECM)タンパク質であるオステオポンチン(OPN)が,MMP9とは異なるFR及びS型α運動ニューロンに発現することを発見し,OPNがALSの運動ニューロン変性に与える影響について検討した.ALSモデルマウス(SOD1G93Aマウス)脊髄中のOPNの局在を検討したところ,OPNは病態進行に伴い細胞外に放出され,ECMで粒子状構造物として観察された.またALS発症期の前後において,野生型マウスでは殆ど認められないOPN/MMP9共陽性の運動ニューロンが認められた.この共陽性の運動ニューロンは,FF型α運動ニューロンの変性(変性第1波)の後に代償的にリモデリングしたFR/S型α運動ニューロンであることを発見し,小胞体ストレスマーカーやOPN受容体であるαvβ3インテグリンの発現が認められたことから,ALS病態進行における運動ニューロン変性第2波の機序に,OPNによるインテグリンを介したMMP9活性化の関与が示唆された.またOPN欠損SOD1G93Aマウスは発症の遅延及び寿命の短縮を示し,OPNはALSの病態進行に対して2面性の性質を持つ可能性が示唆された.すなわち,OPNはALSの発症を規定する運動ニューロンに対しては障害的に,ALSの進行を規定するグリア細胞には保護的に作用する可能性が考えられた.以上より,我々はALSの第2波の運動ニューロン変性の機序としてOPN-インテグリン-MMP9系を新たに見出した.

The Satsuma clan (Edo Era), ordered two editors to collect documentation on local landscape characteristics to produce a collection titled, Sangoku Natural Beauty Spot Collection (1843). This collection introduced eight wakas (traditional Japanese style poetry consisting of 31 syllables) written by Nobusuke Konoe titled, Eight Scenic Spots in Bonotsu, which were influenced by eight scenes in south Satsuma. Each waka included an illustration of the scene produced by a professional artist hired by Konoe. It is known by historical fact that these eight sites existed but no concrete location was ever identified nor pursued. This report confirms the existence and naturalistic value of the Eight Scenic Spots in Bonotsu. Research based on vegetation, geological formation, and extracted historical information has clarified the location of each site. Realizing the identity of each location, a suitable conservation plan is proposed which addresses the evident problems concerning the conservation of the Eight Scenic Spots in Bonotsu. The basis of this research study reveals the necessity to conserve each site based on its natural landscape and significance as cultural heritage. The consideration for maintenance and practical application usage of each site is also addressed in regards to the proposed conservation plan.
