Developments in soft x-ray microscopy which has unique advantages in observation of biological samples are reviwed. Some types of the x-ray microscopes have now resolution better than 0.1μm, exceeding that of light microscope, and are capable of quick imaging of rather thick (1-10μm) hydrated samples with x-rays in the region of water window (2.3-4.3nm). Future problems related to radiation damage and thermal diffusion in observation of hydrated sample are briefly introduced.

We have developed the wide range scanning tunneling microscope (STM) to measure surface topography of a diamond turned gold mirror, a gold coated float polished glass surface and so on. Three dimensional positioning of our STM device is achieved not by using a famous piezoelectric tripod, but by monolithic high precision wide ange translation mechanisms, which we call multi-compound parallel spring. One of strong points of this device is that capability of this specially fabricated X-Y stage is to measure over a sample area of 70μm×70μm and is easily cut from a monolith. We have got an information that each diamond tip trace straightness of the turned surface using a high precision air bearing lathe changes noticeably in the portion. This fact shows that we still have to improve not only such manufacturing conditions as tool radius, and the roughness of tool tips but also the surface finish machine environments especially vibrations.

走査型トンネル顕微鏡は,固体表面の個々の原子を識別することができる新しい手法であり, 1986年のノーベル物理学賞の対象となったものである.その原理,装置技術や応用についての現状を紹介し,今後の課題や発展の方向について述べる.

固体表面の形状や原子配列を原子像として直接観察できる新しい方法として,走査型トンネル顕微鏡 (Scanning Tunneling Microscopy) が最近Binningらによって開発された.この方法の原理,装置および固体表面観察に応用したいくつかの例を説明し,固体表面の原子配列を研究するのに有力な方法であることを示す.また,この方法の問題点にも触れる.

履帯式車両の旋回性の評価は, 一般に旋回に要する所要エネルギ, 旋回半径, 旋回時間等で評価される。自脱コンバインのように農業仕様のものでは上記の評価項目に加えて, いかに旋回時に圃場表土を乱さないかが大切である。本報では信地旋回, 超信地旋回時に圃場表土が2次元的にどの程度乱されるかを, 比較・検討, 考察した。その結果, 従来の信地旋回方式は超信地旋回に比較して旋回時に圃場が乱される面積が理論的に2倍, 実験的に約1.7倍であることを明らかにした。

本研究は,鎌倉時代の仏師快慶を中心に,快慶とほぼ同時代を生きた仏師 3 人との造像における作風の特徴を数量的に比較する事を目的としたものである.分析作品を坐像のみに絞り,法量を用いて主成分分析を試みた.その結果,快慶が中央部へまとまったのに対し,運慶が全体に散らばり,院派・円派の京都仏師たちの作品は左上部へ附置された.この結果は従来の様式研究で指摘された作風の特徴と矛盾してはおらず、法量の数量分析でも仏師の作風の特徴が見出されうることが明らかとなった.

Ethyl 5-hydroxybenzo [α] phenazine-6-carboxylates (IIa, b) were prepared by the condensation of ethyl 1,4-dihydro-1,4-dioxo-3-methoxy-2-naphthoate (I) with o-phenylene-diamines. Acylations and alkylations of IIa, b gave the corresponding o-acyl and alkyl compounds (IIIa-k). The reaction of IIa, b with ethanolamine gave β-hydroxyethyl-carboxamides (Va, b). Compound Va was converted into β-chlorinated compound (VIa), whose chlorine was substituted by dialkylamines to give ethylenediamine-type amides (VIIa, b, c). Compounds VIId and VIIe were obtained by the reaction of IIb with dialkylalkylenediamines. Oxidation of IIa, b afforded N-oxides (IXa, b). The antimicrobial activities of all synthetic compounds were tested by paper discagar diffusion assay. Compounds IIId, e, g, VIIa and IXa showed inhibitory activities to T. interdigitale and IXa to C. albicans.

九州の稲作農家にとって、昨年は久々の豊作になるはずだった。彼らの最大の敵は台風だが、昨年上陸した台風は1件だけ。稲の成長期の日照時間もまずまずだった。しかし実際に収穫してみると、収量は平年比96%と微減だったが、米が白く濁る「白未熟米」の比率が高く、品質の指標になる一等米比率は27%と平年より37ポイントも低かった。
