本論文では、作曲者の感性を反映させた楽曲を生成する自動作曲システムの構築のために、スケールとキーに着目し、それらから構成される旋律の旋律印象モデルを提案する。スケールには様々な種類が存在し、その種類によって聞き手に異なる印象を与える。しかし、スケールとは音づかい1つだけでも種類や印象が変化し、どのスケールに属するかは、曖昧である。そこで、任意的に生成された旋律が、どのキーと、どのスケールに属するかをファジィモデルにより定義する。その提案モデルについて、5種類のキーと5種類のスケールから構成される合計25個の旋律についての感性評価実験結果から得られた印象との比較実験を行うことにより、ファジィモデルの有用性を検討する。

【目的】トランス脂肪酸(トランス酸)の摂取は,血清LDL-コレステロール濃度を増加させ,動脈硬化性疾患のリスクを高める。日本人を対象にしたトランス酸の摂取量調査および目標量(上限)に関する研究は,限られている。本研究では日本人成人女性におけるトランス酸摂取量の調査を行い,血清コレステロール濃度との関連について検討した。【方法】30~60歳代の日本人女性54名を対象に,3日間の食事調査を実施した。空腹時に採血を行い,血清脂質濃度を測定した。【結果】対象者のトランス酸摂取量の中央値は0.36%エネルギー(%E)であり,平均値は 0.40%Eであった。トランス酸摂取量の最大値は1.47%Eであり,1%Eを超えた被験者は1名だけであった。脂質摂取量とトランス酸摂取量との間に,有意な正の相関が認められた。血清LDL-およびHDL-コレステロール濃度とトランス酸摂取量との間には,有意な相関はなかった。【結論】本研究では,本研究対象者の日本人成人女性が摂取しているトランス酸量は1%E以下であり,この低レベル(%E)のトランス酸摂取では,健常人において血清コレステロール濃度に対して大きな影響を及ぼさない可能性のあることが示唆された。

油脂中のトコフェロール (Toc) の熱分解および油脂の熱酸化に及ぼす各種の抗酸化剤の作用, ならびにアスコルビルパルミテート (As. P) との併用による効果について検討した。1) 使用した抗酸化剤の内では, TBHQが最も油脂中のTocの熱分解を防止し, ついで, セサモール, オイゲノールの順で, ケルセチンおよびBHAは効果少なく, フラボンやβ-カロチンは防止効果が認められなかった。2) TBHQは添加量を増すにしたがい, Tocの熱分解防止効果は高められた。3) Tocの熱分解防止効果の高いTBHQやセサモールは, 油脂の熱酸化も抑制したが, β-カロチンおよびフラボン添加では油脂の熱酸化を促進した。4) BHA, セサモールおよびケルセチンのそれぞれの単独添加の場合ょりもAs. Pの併用によりTocの熱分解防止効果は高められた。5) Tocの熱分解防止効果のないフラボンでは, As. Pとの併用によりTocの熱分解防止効果が現れた。一方, β-カロチンにはAs. Pの併用による効果は認められなかった。

The effect of thermal oxidation and hydrolytic promoters of oil or their inhibitors were investigated on the deterioration of oil and decomposition of tocopherol (Toc) in oil with or without an aluminum cover float. Vegetable oils (soybean, hardened soybean, rapeseed and olive oils) under the presence of oxidation promoters of oil (ferric and cupric stearates), hydrolytic promoters of oil (stearic and citric acids, or magnesium oxide) and their inhibitors were heated in glass tubes (2.7×20cm) at 180°C.The deterioration of oil and decomposition of Toc in oil were apparently promoted by addition of ferric and cupric stearates. On the other hand, the added silicone oil, tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) and ascorbyl palmitate (As. P) showed preventive effects on the deterioration of oil and decomposition of Toc in oil. And moreover, the deterioration of oil and decomposition of Toc in oil containing As. P heated with the aluminum cover float were clearly less than those without the float.

[Purpose] This study investigated the effects of low-level laser phototherapy on hand and forearm fractures. [Subjects and Methods] This was a one-group pretest-posttest design study. We recruited 9 patients with hand or forearm fracture, and they received diode laser treatment (808 nm, 10 Hz, 60 mW). Evaluation of pain on a visual analog scale (VAS) and radiographic assessments were made pre-intervention, post-intervention, and at two weeks of follow-up. [Results] There were significant differences in VAS scores between pre-intervention and post-intervention and between pre-intervention and 2 weeks of follow up. In the radiographic assessment, the percentage of detectable cortical bridging also increased significantly after phototherapy. [Conclusions] We consider that low-level laser phototherapy is effective for human bone healing and pain relief.

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to clarify the factors affecting the burden of family caregivers of home-bound disabled elderly persons. [Subjects] Data were collected for 66 home-bound disabled elderly persons (mean age of 81.4 ± 9.7) and their 66 family caregivers (mean age of 62.4 ± 11. 5) who were living at home in Kobe city, Hyogo. [Method] Capacity to perform ADL was assessed using the Barthel Index for the home-bound disabled elderly persons. The care burden and health status of their family caregivers were also evaluated. [Results] There was no significant correlation between ADL, the grade of care required for home-bound disabled elderly persons and family caregivers’ burden. It was also revealed that the family caregivers’ burdens were determined by their state of depression. [Conclusion] These results suggest that social and psychological supports are necessary to reduce the burden of family caregivers.

Introduction Seifu, devised in 1992 by Xu, is a therapeutic technique of “pulling the skin”. Its effects on the blood pressure, edema, and pain were previously reported in part 1. In this report, Electroencephalography (EEG) changes between before and after Seifu were evaluated.Subjects and Methods The electroencephalograph was performed using an FM-717 biofeedback system (FUTEK, Yokohama, Japan). EEG was recorded for 1 minute each before and after Seifu, and changes in brain waves were analyzed.  The subjects were 7 males and 39 females with a mean age of 74.7±16.2 years who underwent Seifu for 5 minutes or longer (5-30 mins, mean : 13.8±6.3 mins) a total of 131 times. EEG was also recorded for 1 minutes each before and after Seifu by 2 Seifu therapists.Results The percentages of β-dominant (p<0.05) and θ-dominant (p<0.001) periods significantly decreased, and the percentages of α2-distribution (p<0.01) and α3-distribution (p<0.05) periods significantly increased. With one therapist, β waves decreased, after both the first and second Seifu treatments. With the other therapist, α1 and α2 waves increased, but θ waves decreased, after both the first and second Seifu treatments.Discussion The results indicate that sleepiness was resolved, tension was mitigated, and the level of relaxation rose, after Seifu. In other words, Seifu brought about a feeling of calm wakefulness. This suggests an increase in serotonin secretion after Seifu. Serotonin generated from tryptophan is a neurotransmitter with an antidepressant effect and causes composure and a sense of stability. An increase in serotonin secretion is reported to induce calm wakefulness and α2-dominant EEG traces. Therefore, the results of our study suggest that Seifu treatment of a sufficient duration stimulates serotonin secretion. Seifu is performed by “simple and constant rhythmic movements”. The technique of Seifu closely resembles that of grooming. Such simple and constant rhythmic movements are considered to stimulate serotonin secretion, and grooming reportedly increases serotonin secretion in both the groomer and groomed. Therefore, the health of not only the Seifu recipient but also Seifu therapist is considered to be promoted by increased serotonin secretion.Conclusion The changes in EEG traces after Seifu of a sufficient duration suggested increased serotonin secretion. Seifu is considered to promote the health of not only the recipient but also the therapist by increasing serotonin secretion.

The preparation of anticancer drugs necessitates careful work because it can involve the handling of hazardous drugs. In actual clinical settings, liquid leakage can occur if the same rubber stopper is penetrated with injection needles multiple times; special attention should be paid to the fact that the first penetration mark can serve as a site of leakage to increase risk.Hence, we conducted a confirmatory study to detect air leakage, which can be detected with greater sensitivity than liquid leakage, using a number of methods of penetration with a focus on the viscoelasticity of rubber stoppers. In the second penetration, when the bevel was oriented perpendicularly to the first penetration (AB method), a leakage rate of 100% (30/30) was obtained with an 18 G regular-bevel needle penetrating the rubber stopper at a short depth of 0.5 mm from the first penetration mark. When the bevel orientation was changed under otherwise the same conditions (CB method), the leakage rate decreased to 37% (11/30). When the bevel orientation was completely aligned to the orientation of the first penetration (BB method), the leakage rate further decreased to 0% (0/30). Another important factor was the depth of penetration; under all conditions examined, lower leakage rates were obtained with a 1.0 mm depth than with 0.5 mm.As a result, in clinical settings involving two occurrences of penetration, two distinct cases were revealed depending on needle bevel positioning: spills and other forms of leakage prevented by the viscoelasticity of the rubber stopper and those promoted by the same.

We examined whether auditory steady-state response (ASSR), which is known as a lower-order brain response, can be modulated by expectations accompanying the progression of a musical phrase. We fabricated musical melodies consisted of seven tones, the amplitudes of which were modulated at 40Hz, under two conditions:the final (7th) tone was either congruent or incongruent with respect to the musical context of the melodies. Two control experiments were also conducted. The objective of one control experiment was to investigate the effect of the preceding sound (6th) on the final tone (7th) by presenting two final tones (6th and 7th) extracted from the melodies, and the objective of the other control experiment was to investigate the effect of hearing a pitch itself by presenting a tone sequence of ascending and descending scales between A♭5 and C7. The ASSR source strengths were estimated by magnetoencephalography. The strength of the 7th tone of the melodies was significantly larger in the incongruent condition than in the congruent condition. This difference could not be explained by effects of the preceding sound and pitch of the target tone, suggesting that ASSR was modulated by musical expectancy.

The BRCA1 gene plays an important role in the development of human breast cancer, and recent research indicated that genetic variations of BRCA1 are also related to canine mammary tumors (CMTs). Here, using rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE), we cloned the 5′- and 3′-UTRs of BRCA1. By direct sequencing of the flanking sequences of the 5′- and 3′-UTRs of BRCA1, three previously unreported single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified, two (−1228T>C, −1173C>T) in the putative promoter regions and one non-synonymous SNP (63449G>A) in exon 23. Compared with 16 normal samples, the sequences from 34 CMTs suggested that SNP (−1173C>T) was associated with the development of CMTs (odds ratio (OR)=2.57, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.07–6.15).

筋萎縮性側索硬化症(ALS)では上位と下位の運動ニューロンの選択的傷害が強調されてきた.しかし,近年はALSと,認知症を合併するALS(ALS-D)や前頭側頭葉変性症(FTLD)との病変の連続性が明らかになり,共通の蓄積物としてユビキチン陽性封入体がみいだされた.ユビキチンが結合している蛋白はTAR DNA-binding protein-43(TDP-43)であることが,2006年秋に米日の研究者によってほぼ同時に報告され,ALS研究に大きなインパクトを与えた.ALS, ALS-D, FTLDは蛋白化学的にはリン酸化されたTDP-43が細胞質内,神経突起内,神経核内に蓄積するTDP-43 proteinopathyと見なされる.2008年には家族性ALSの原因遺伝子として,TDP-43遺伝子変異が同定され,ALSとの関連がより強固になった.今後,TDP-43の機能や代謝を明らかにすることにより,ALSの発症機構と分子病態,治療薬研究が飛躍的に発展することが期待される.

進化ロボティクスや人工生命の分野において、自律ロボットの制御に関する研究が行われている。本研究では仮想物理環境における多関節ロボットアームにあるタスクを与え、その挙動獲得の実現を目的とする。アームは遺伝的アルゴリズムにより人工ニューラルネットワークを学習させ、物理モデリングによるシミュレーションを実施した。この結果得られたアームの獲得したタスク動作を検証する。

A feature of climate impacts on occupational health and safety are physiological limits to carrying out physical work at high heat exposure. Heat stress reduces a workers work capacity, leading to lower hourly labour productivity and economic output. We used existing weather station data and climate modeling grid cell data to describe heat conditions (calculated as Wet Bulb Globe Temperature, WBGT) in South-East Asia. During the hottest month in this region (March) afternoon WBGT levels are already high enough to cause major loss of hourly work capacity and by 2050 the situation will be extreme for many outdoor jobs.

Plant secondary product glycosyltransferases belong to family 1 of the glycosyltransferase superfamily and mediate the transfer of a glycosyl residue from activated nucleotide sugars to lipophilic small molecules, thus affecting the solubility, stability and pharmacological activities of the sugar-accepting compounds. The biotechnological application of plant glycosyltransferases in glycoside synthesis has attracted attention because enzymatic glycosylation offers several advantages over chemical methods, including (1) avoiding the use of harsh conditions and toxic catalysts, (2) providing strict control of regio-and stereo-selectivity and (3) high efficiency. This review describes the in vivo and in vitro glycosylation of natural organic compounds using glycosyltransferases, focusing on our investigation of enzymatic synthesis of curcumin glycosides. Our current efforts toward functional characterization of some glycosyltransferases involved in the biosynthesis of iridoids and crocin, as well as in the sugar chain elongation of quercetin glucosides, are described. Finally, I describe the relationship of the structure of sugar chains and the intestinal absorption which was investigated using chemoenzymatically synthesized quercetin glycosides.
