Oceanic response to a series of typhoon passages is investigated with a triply-nested oceanic downscaling model forced by the assimilative GPV-MSM reanalysis dataset for the coastal marginal sea off Kii Peninsula, Japan. Temperature is decreased about 2 degrees for 2 weeks during three typhoons passing by. An EOF analysis decomposes the modeled SST properly into 1) a seasonal signal as a linear trend attributed to enhanced vertical mixing and mixed layer deepening due to the seasonal surface cooling in the 1st mode, 2) coastal upwelling at several locations through the Ekman transport due to the stormy surface wind field in the 2nd and 4th modes, and 3) SSH changes caused by the meso- and submeso-scale, cyclonic cold eddies near the topography and subsequent eastward transport by the Kuroshio in the 3rd mode.

This study proposes a structural system which aims at improving the seismic performance of new and existing wooden houses making use of oil dampers. Problems to install any special damping devices into wooden structures are known, for one thing to be the wood being brittle in bending and the other the strength of the joint between the device and wood being relatively low. Therefore, to get rid of these problems, we developed an oil damper which works only when subject to compression and is provided with relief valves to limit the maximum resistance. First part of the study deals with a series of harmonic loading tests to see if the damper exhibits the same properties as designed beforehand. Then, the dampers are mounted as knee braces at the corners of wood panels which is subject to dynamic loading tests in two ways. First one is a test to apply sinusoidal inertial force to an isolated panel. Second one is a shaking table test on full scale single-story wood frames. From these tests, we confirmed that the damper can absorb as much as nearly 60% of seismic input energy. It is also confirmed that the installment of the damper makes it possible for wooden frames that collapses at the first strike of strong ground motion to withstand the same ground motion several times with no significant damage accumulation to main structures. Lastly, these test results are compared to analytical results and it is concluded that the proposed structural system do work to improve seismic safety of wooden houses.

プラスチックは工業材料としてストレングス・メンバーの分野にまで進出するようになっている。プラスチックの大型構造物を構成するためには,切断したり, 接合したりすることが必須の要件であって, 最近, 特に注目されている分野である。ここでは,プラスチックの約75%を占める熱可塑性プラスチックの主たる接合方法である溶接についての加工機と,一般の接着についての加工機について,それぞれの分野での大勢と,個々の加工機の機構と作用効果について解説を行なった。

Although dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a widely used analgesic and sedative agent for endoscopic procedures, cardiovascular complications, such as bradycardia and hypotension, are frequently experienced. We herein report the first case of asystole-induced bradycardia due to DEX during endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). An 81-year-old man without cardiovascular diseases was referred for gastric carcinoma. ESD was started after administering a loading dose of DEX followed by a continuous maintenance infusion of DEX. The patient's heart rate gradually decreased, and then cardiac arrest occurred. DEX has a risk of cardiac arrest, so bradycardia should not be underestimated during sedation with DEX.

本稿では,日本語の授受本動詞の持つ特徴である視点制約と方向性に着目し,これらの要因が学習レベル上位群と下位群の中国人日本語学習者の授受本動詞文理解にどのように影響するのかについて絵と文のマッチング課題を用いた実験で検討した。その結果,学習者は視覚呈示されたイラストと授受の方向性が合致しない文は比較的正しく判断できるが,授受動詞文の視点制約に違反した文には誤った判断を行う傾向があり,方向性が合致しているか否かに頼って授受動詞文の正誤判断を行っていることが示された。また,レベルの上昇とともに方向性が合致しない文は正しく判断できるようになるが,視点制約に違反した文を正しく判断することはレベル上位群でも難しいことが分かった。したがって,授受動詞を含む文理解における困難の主要な原因が視点制約にある可能性が示唆された。

人が生涯にわたって経験するストレスには大きな性差が見られる。本研究は平成7年度国民生活基礎調査の集計結果を用いて女性に一貫してストレス経験率が高いことを示し、このパターンを説明するいくつかの仮説を検討する。最終的には、自分、家族、家族以外の他者、いずれに成立する出来事に対しても、女性の方がほぼ一貫してストレス経験が高いことが示される。これは女性が他者に対するケアのみではなく、自分に対するケアもより多く行うというケアの性別非対称的構造を想定することで説明が可能となる。最後に、女性によるケアの提供という視点から性別役割分業を捉える可能性が議論される。

Pad type compressive force sensor suitable for high speed impact force measurement is developed. A piezoelectric film is sandwiched by a pair of the thin metal sheets. The electric wire is connected to the metal sheets which are the electrode of piezoelectric film. The whole of the sensor is covered by thin resin sheet, and layer components inside the sensor are fixed together in one body. A sensor is about 1mm in thickness and it can be made in the various shape according to the purpose of use. Several pad sensors are made for trial purpose, and the performance are examined through experiments by applying fluctuating loads and impact loads. Finally, the pad sensor is applied to the impact force measurement of golf ball shot by setting up the sensor to No5 and No9 golf irons.

The existence of critical impact velocity has been confirmed in experiments in which a sheet was perforated by a flying projectile. The experiments were performed to measure the values of parameters relevant to the normal impact of the cylinder against the sheets. By examining the relationship between the diameter of blanks and impact velocity, the phenomenon of the critical impact velocity was confirmed. The theoretical approach was also presented, for the same conditions as in the case of simple wave propagation, as in the Karman-Duwez solution. The comparison between theoretical examination and experimental results was also discussed.

Aims: MND-2119 is a novel once-daily dose self-emulsifying formulation of highly purified eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester (EPA-E) and is approved as an antihyperlipidemia agent in Japan. It has improved absorption and achieves higher plasma EPA concentrations at Cmax than conventional EPA-E. In the JELIS trial, concomitant use of EPA-E with statin therapy significantly reduced atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risks. As a potential mechanism of action of EPA, endogenous formation of EPA-derived anti-inflammatory metabolites is receiving greater attention. This study aims to investigate the endogenous formation of EPA-derived anti-inflammatory metabolites following single and multiple administrations of MND-2119. Methods: Healthy adult male subjects were randomly assigned to a nonintervention (control) group, MND-2119 2-g/day group, MND-2119 4-g/day group, or EPA-E 1.8-g/day group for 7 days (N=8 per group). Plasma fatty acids and EPA-derived metabolites were evaluated. Peripheral blood neutrophils were isolated, and the production of EPA-derived metabolites from in vitro stimulated neutrophils was evaluated. Results: After single and multiple administrations of MND-2119 2 g/day, there were significant increases in plasma EPA concentration, 18-hydroxyeicosapentaenoic acid (18-HEPE), and 17,18-epoxyeicosatetraenoic acid compared with those of EPA-E 1.8 g/day. They were further increased with MND-2119 4 g/day administration. In neutrophils, the EPA concentration in the MND-2119 2-g/day group was significantly higher compared with that in the EPA-E 1.8-g/day group after multiple administration, and 18-HEPE production was positively correlated with EPA concentration. No safety issues were noted. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that MND-2119 increases the plasma and cellular concentrations of EPA and EPA-derived metabolites to a greater extent than conventional EPA-E formulations.
