Low-grade central osteosarcoma, a rare subtype of osteosarcoma, is less aggressive than conventional osteosarcoma. We report ac case of low-grade central osteosarcoma of the mandible. A 52-year-old woman presented to our department for treatment of a swelling in the right side of the mandible. Computed tomography revealed ground glass radiopaque lesions associated with an expansive growth pattern in the mandibular bone. Because a suspicion of low-grade central osteosarcoma was diagnosed In the biopsy sample provided from the previous hospital, the lesion was surgically resected. Histopathologically, the tumor consisted of a dense proliferation of spindle cells with mild atypia. At the periphery of the lesion, the normal cortical bone was invaded by tumor nests. Low-grade central osteosarcoma was diagnosed in the surgical specimen. Tumor recurrence has not been observed for more than 6 years after surgery. Low-grade central osteosarcoma is hard to differentiate from osteogenic benign neoplasm or bone malformation. Therefore, when radiographic findings reveal an expansive ground glass appearance, a bone biopsy including the normal cortical bone and the central part of the lesion is essential.

Cathartic effects of Aloe pulv. (J. P. IX) and pulv. of Aloe arborescens MILL. var. natalensis BERGER (Kidachialoe) were examined in mice and rats by oral administration. It was found that rats were more suitable than mice. Additionally, no sex difference in rats was observed. Cathartic activity (ED<SUB>50</SUB>) in male rats was 84.3 mg/kg in Aloe pulv., and 900 mg/kg in Kidachialoe pulv. Several experiments to find the mechanism of cathartic effect of Aloe were done. It was considered that Aloe acted on the large intestine mainly, and that process of activation of Aloe by intestinal flora was necessary to act. It was considered that main cathartic component of Aloe was barbaloin by comparision of barbaloin contents in Aloe and cathartic activity. Then, it was concluded that barbaloin represented cathartic activity of Aloe.

磁気記録技術は, V. Paulsen の発明以来100年の歴史を有する身近な技術である.中でもハードディスク装置は,外部記憶装置の中核的存在であり,薄膜磁気記録媒体,磁気抵抗効累 (MR) 型ヘッド, PRML信号処理などの最先端技術の継続的導入により,ここ数年間は年率60%(このままでいけば10年で160倍)という驚異的なスピードで高密度化が進農している.現在,ハードディスク装置の記録密度は光ディスク装置を追い越すまでになっており,その産業規模も半導体メモリーに匹敵する巨大なものとなっている.本講座では,高度情報化時代にますますその重要度が高まると考えられる,ハードディスク装置の原理と構成について概説する.

従来,大鳥蘭三郎らの研究によってシーボルトによる鍼灸に関する言及が,彼の門人の蘭訳文献に依拠するものであること,またその蘭訳の原著が石坂宗哲の鍼灸文献『知要一言』であることは知られていた。しかし,シーボルトが門人美馬順三にその蘭訳を依頼したのは『知要一言』刊行以前のことであり,先行研究では蘭訳の際の底本までは特定できていなかった。今回,著者の調査によって,ライデン大学図書館に所蔵される石坂宗哲の鍼灸書が,シーボルトの江戸参府の際に石坂宗哲が自ら書写して贈った自筆稿本であり,蘭訳の際の底本となった文献であることが分かった。また国立民族学博物館に所蔵されるシーボルト旧蔵にかかる「九鍼」と「微鍼」も,石坂宗哲から贈られたものである可能性が高いことを論じた。

オブジェクト指向アプリケーション開発環境ActivePageは,松下電器産業(株)と米国Gain Technology社とで共同開発したアプリケーション開発のための基本ソフトウェアであり,テキスト,グラフィックス,イメージ,アニメーションなどのマルチメディアオブジェクトを扱うことができる.また,これらのオブジェクトデータを保存するために,オブジェクト指向データベースを利用している.ActivePageでは,開発者がクラスの定義を行なう機能を解放しておらず,あらかじめOAアプリケーションを作成するために必要と思われるクラスを用意している.このため,一般のオブジェクト指向言語に比べアプリケーションの開発が容易である.

Microbial rhodopsin is a large family of membrane proteins having seven transmembrane helices (TM1-7) with an all-trans retinal (ATR) chromophore that is covalently bound to Lys in the TM7. The Trp residue in the middle of TM3, which is homologous to W86 of bacteriorhodopsin (BR), is highly conserved among microbial rhodopsins with various light-driven functions. However, the significance of this Trp for the ion transport function of microbial rhodopsins has long remained unknown. Here, we replaced the W163 (BR W86 counterpart) of a channelrhodopsin (ChR), C1C2/ChRWR, which is a chimera between ChR1 and 2, with a smaller aromatic residue, Phe to verify its role in the ion transport. Under whole-cell patch clamp recordings from the ND7/23 cells that were transfected with the DNA plasmid coding human codon optimized C1C2/ChRWR (hWR) or its W163F mutant (hWR-W163F), the photocurrents were evoked by a pulsatile light at 475 nm. The ion-transporting activity of hWR was strongly altered by the W163F mutation in 3 points: (1) the H+ leak at positive membrane potential (Vm) and its light-adaptation, (2) the attenuation of cation channel activity and (3) the manifestation of outward H+ pump activity. All of these results strongly suggest that W163 has a role in stabilizing the structure involved in the gating-on and -off of the cation channel, the role of “gate keeper”. We can attribute the attenuation of cation channel activity to the incomplete gating-on and the H+ leak to the incomplete gating-off.

文化財の修復では,古くから使われ,使用方法や使用後の変化について多くの経験が重ねられている材料が「伝統的な材料」として多くの場面で使用されている。このような材料は,勘や経験に基づいて安定して使用されているため,意外にもその化学組成が明確になっていない場合もある。中でも,古糊(ふるのり)と言われる糊は,甕に入れたデンプン糊を十年ほど保存して作られるもので,汎用性の高い他の糊とは異なり,書画の修復においてのみ用いられる特殊な材料である。この古糊の特徴について,近年明らかにできた化学的知見と,それをもとにした類似材料の調製について報告する。

冷蔵人胎盤の加水分解によるCE14(ラエンネック(L))は各種アミノ酸を含んでおり,その作用として,抗脂肝作用,組織呼吸の促進効果,肝再生の促進などが,実験的研究から知られている.今回の研究は,本剤が慢性肝疾患の治療に有効な薬剤かどうかを知ることであった.患者を二重盲検により,2群にランダムに分けた.Placeboとしては生理的食塩水を用いた.第I群は,L注射を2週間受けた後,Placeboを2週間受け,この方法をもう一度くり返した.第II群は,始めPlacebo注射を2週間受け,つぎの2週はLの注射を毎日受けた.その後は第I群と同様にもう一度くり返した.肝機能検査を2週毎に行なって,その前と2週後の値を比較した.両群とも,GOT, GPTはL投与期間で下降し,それは統計的に有意であった.これに比して,両群のPlacebo期間におけるGOT, GPTの下降は有意ではなかった.以上より,Lは慢性肝疾患患者に効果があるといえよう.

Artists can get space and time into a static pictorial scene. Although the pictorial scene is in many parts inconsistent with the physical properties of real scene, we doubtlessly feel the pictorial scene as having a reality. On the other hand, interestingly, we know the pictorial scene is not real. How can we overcome this coexistence of incompatible realities, physical and psychological realities? Here we review the studies investigating the memory displacement of objects with the motion lines that are one of techniques to depict the motion on a still image, and discuss that the efficacy of visual stimulation by the pictorial technique determines the dominance between physical and psychological realities: when the latter is dominated over the former, we get caught up in the picture.
