The goals of this retrospective clinical case series study were to describe the management of anesthesia, and to report perioperative complications in cats undergoing subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) placement due to ureteral obstruction. Medical records of client-owned cats with ureteral obstruction and anesthetized for SUB placement between 2012 and 2015 in a veterinary teaching hospital were reviewed. Twenty-seven cases were identified. Duration of anesthesia and surgery (mean ± standard deviation) were 215 ± 42 min and 148 ± 36 min, respectively. Hypothermia was the most common intraoperative complication. Hypotension, hypocapnia, hypertension and bradycardia were also frequently observed. Out of 22 cats who experienced intraoperative hypotension, 17 received inotropes and vasopressors. There was a significant decrease in creatinine (P=0.008) and total solids (P=0.007) after SUB placement when compared with baseline values. Postoperative complications included pain, anorexia, nausea, hypertension, and urinary tract-related problems. No death occurred in the postoperative period. Successful management of anesthesia for SUB placement involves rigorous anesthetic monitoring and immediate treatment of complications. Perioperative complications appear to be common. This study could not identify risk factors associated with this procedure.

A three-year-old spayed domestic short-haired cat presented for evaluation of weight loss, cardiomegaly and pleural effusion. Echocardiographic examination demonstrated a thickened pericardium with mild pericardial effusion and a large volume of pleural effusion characterized by exudate. Although the cat was treated with antibiotics, the clinical symptoms did not improve. The cat developed dyspnea and died on day 7. Necropsy revealed a large amount of modified transudates ascites, pleural effusion and markedly dilated pericardium. Histopathological examination revealed severe exudation of fibrin and granulation tissue in a thick layer of the epicardium. The cat was diagnosed with fibrinous pericarditis secondary to bacterial infection.

平成29年度は、アラブ古典音楽の即興演奏タクスィームに関し、特にマカーム(旋法)の構造と展開について研究を推進した。現地調査はマレーシアで行なった。研究成果展として公開講座「マカームとラーガ2」(多摩美術大学・平成29年12月)を開催した。東京音楽大学小日向英俊氏を講師に迎え音楽家による実演も伴いながら、今回はアラブ音楽の即興演奏「タクスィーム」とインド音楽の「アーラープ」の比較研究を行い、討議した。アラブ音楽ではマカームを転調しながら展開する点がインド音楽とは大きく異なり、観客にもその理解が共有された。他にも、「琵琶とシルクロード」(文京シビックホール・平成29年11月・薦田治子武蔵野音楽大学教授企画)を始めとする多くの公演や講演において、アラブ音楽の真髄であるマカームの構造を実演し解説することに努めた。平成30年3月、ビレン・イシュクタシュ博士を中心とするトルコの演奏家・研究者の企画によりマレーシアで開催されたインターナショナル・シェリフ・ムヒッディン・タルガン・ウード・フェスティバル(クアラルンプール・ユヌス・エムレ研究所)に出演し、自作曲とタクスィームを演奏し好評を博した。シェリフ・ムヒッディン・タルガンはアラブ音楽、トルコ音楽両方にとって重要な役割を果たした音楽家である。その名を冠したウード・フェスティバルでは、トルコ音楽とアラブ音楽の比較研究が行われ、タクスィームの表現や多様なプロセスを検討した。またマレーシア、シンガポール、インドネシアなど東南アジア諸国にウード音楽が浸透している現状を把握し、アラブ音楽圏の広がりについても認識を新たにする貴重な機会となった。

本研究は抑うつ的反すうの能動性に焦点を当てた介入プログラムの効果を検討した。抑うつ傾向と抑うつ的反すう傾向の高い大学生を,無作為に介入プログラムを受ける実験群(12名)と特別な介入を受けない統制群(11名)に振り分けた。介入プログラムは,抑うつ的反すうに関するポジティブな信念を反証し,抑うつ的反すうの持続を導くプラン・目標を弱めることに焦点をおいた2週間のトレーニングから構成された。実験の結果,実験群のみ抑うつ的反すうの頻度と,反すうすることで自己や状況の洞察が得られるという信念の確信度が減少した。更に,抑うつ的反すうの頻度の変化は,この信念の確信度の変化と連動していた。以上の知見は抑うつ的反すうを変容するための介入技法の洗練に繫がるものである。また,抑うつ的反すうが個人の能動性によって持続するというモデルと一致しており,抑うつ的反すうの持続過程の理解に寄与する知見である。

"For my own part, I commonly attend more to nature than to man, but any affecting human event may blind our eyes to natural objects," Thoreau wrote in The Last Days of John Brown. In fact Thoreau was a poet-naturalist who devoted himself to walking in the fields and woods, observing plants and animals and writing poems and nature-essays. He was a great trnscendentalist who quetsted on for the virtue immanent in the universe and human being. As shown in the principle based on transcendental individualism, he never resorted to violence, though he was destined to assume a firm attitude toward the social evil. At last, however, he stood up for Captain John Brown who attacked slavery with a combined armed group of black men and white. This was why Thoreau recognized the riot raised by John Brown as the most sovereign deed. Actually it was disadvantageous for Thoreau to dare to plead for Brown, who was taken for an ignorant, narrow-minded, self egotist, a cruel, insane and fanatically prejudiced religious maniac. Thoreau held on by his principle, transcendentalism, grounded on the supreme dignity of an individual, which included the supreme inviolability of his body against the physical invasion of bloodletting. This dramatic action raised by John Brown was too universal and spiritual to hypercritize and crush into pieces. Brown was the very man who "showed himself superior to nature and had a spark of dignity in him." It was John Brown who embodied Thoreau's great idea "there are a thousand hackings at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root." Thoreau concludes in A Plea for Captain John Brown as follows: I foresee the time when the painter will paint that scene no longer going to Rome for a subject; the poet will sing it; the histrian record it; and, with the Landing of the Pilgrims and the Declaration of Independence, it will be the ornament of some future national gallery, when at least the present form of slavery shall be no more here. We shall then be at liberty to weep for Captain Brown. Then, and not till then, we will take our revenge. When Thoreau changed his attitude from the passive resistance to the positive resistance, his plea for Brown meant that he realized his ideal based on universal and creative view of life of poet-naturalist as well as on unalterable individualism of transcendentalist.

Populism and nationalism have come to the forefrontof Amencan political discoursein the post-Cold War period. For example, Michael Lind's recent book, The NextAmerican Nation, in which he argues for an interracial America based on nationalismand interracial populist majority coalition building, has been widely reviewed anddiscussed.Why populism and nationalism now? Behind these arguments, there is acommon recognition that the United States now faces the critical problems of a deepening racial cleavage, a widening income gap that is leading to middle class decline,and a sense that without change, American society is going to disintegrate Criticshave emerged who consider multiculturalism elitist, and instead propose transracialnational identity with vernacular American culture. They argue for a rekindling ofupward mobility for the working class and the protection of middle class income by restricting immirgration and managed trade (economic natronalism and populism).Those arguments are surely debatable. They are to a certain extent persuasive, however, for the critics have shown that the Democratic and Republican parties are notresponsive, or cannot find effctive policies, for these problems, and the traditionalliberal-conservative paradigm is no longer workable. Whether a new majority coalition based on economic populism and nationalism will be realized or not, populistand nationalist sentiments wrll affect American politics and external affairs in thepos-Cold War era.

The FEM W-tip which initially has the shape of a needle (the radii of curvature 5×10-6_??_1.510-5 cm) was inserted into a special specimen chamber of an electron microscope and the changes of shape by heating were observed over a wide range of temperatures (1600°K_??_2800°K) either continuously or intermittently. The receding rate by the blunting of the tip was determined by an application of Herring's theory on transport phenomena in solid to field emission cathode. It was found from the experimental results that the receding rate of the tip depended on the cone angle. Furthermore, the process of typical changes in the shape of the tip was established, and why a neck formed in the region near the tip could be explained.

本研究では,視覚シンボル検出課題を用いて,北神ほか(2002)で示されたシンボルの認識容易性に対する白抜きシンボルの優位性を,背景の色を変更して再検討した.また,意味内容の事前学習,および,シンボル自体の意味の明瞭さの影響も併せて検討した.その結果,認識の速さという点において,白抜きシンボルの優位性はみられず,白抜きシンボルの優位性は,シンボルが配置される背景の色と,シンボルの地の色との関係によって変動する状況依存的なものである可能性が示唆された.また,先行研究と同様,事前に学習を行う方が,あるいは,もともと意味がわかりやすいシンボルの方が,認識が容易であることも示された.

本研究はアリルイソチオシアネート(AITC)がエチレン作用の阻害剤ないしは抑制剤であるという観点から、ミカン等の果樹、トマト等の野菜およびスイ-トピー等の花きを使用し、これらに対するAITCの影響を検討し、エチレン作用に対するAITCの作用機構の解明を行い、鮮度保持を含む品質保持技術としての応用を検討した。ウンシュウミカンに対してAITC処理を行った結果、呼吸量の増加がみられ、エチレン処理によりクロロフィル分解(脱緑)は進行し、それをAITCが抑制すること、この脱緑の程度(L+b)/2+aとクロロフィラーゼ活性との間に高い正の相関関係があること、クロロフィリドaベルオキシターゼと脱緑の度合との間には、相関関係は認められないことを明らかにした。その作用は麻酔をかけたような状態を示した。トマト果実にAITCを処理した場合、着色の抑制および果実硬度の軟化の抑制を生じた。処理時間は50分、処理濃度としては5u1/1から効果が顕著であった。トマト子葉の上偏生長に対するAITCの阻害は不(反)拮抗阻害作用の傾向を示した。AITCを先に5分処理するとその後エチレン処理しても上偏生長は起こらず、上偏生長を起こす場合はエチレンを先に6時間以上処理する必要があった。エチレンの関与が少ない切り花のキクではAITCの品質保持効果は観察されなかった。エチレンの関与が大きいスイ-トピーの花では鮮度保持効果はみられなかったが、AITC処理により花の退色を抑制した。現時点での応用としてはSTSとAITCの併用処理が効果的である。作用機構の解明のため、AITCでオジギソウを処理し、振動傾性阻害を観察した。この結果、AITCは果樹および野菜でも観察されたように、麻酔症状様に作用し、一定時間経過後回復がみられた。

カラシナから発生するAITCを利用して雑草防除を行うため,レタスおよび雑草種子の発芽抑制効果を明らかにした。1. 土壌50mLあたり濃度50mg/LのAITC水溶液20mL添加でレタスの発芽が抑制された。2. 土壌50mLあたりカラシナ生葉1g以上の混和量でレタスの発芽が抑制された。このときのAITC濃度は摩砕した生葉1gで24時間後に0.65mg/Lでピークとなった。40℃ではこれよりピークが早く現れ,高濃度が長時間維持された。3. アオビユでは,レタスと同程度の発芽抑制効果が認められたが,イヌビエでは十分な効果が得られなかった。

冷蔵ゲルを中心とした大豆タンパク質ゲルのゲル状食品への適性を,ソーセージ,ハンバーグ,さつま揚げを用いて調べた.その結果,冷蔵ゲルは加熱ゲル,凍結ゲル,SPIと比べてゲル状食品への高い適性をもち,畜肉や魚肉すり身に対する高い代替の可能性を示した.特に,ハンバーグのようなヘテロジニアスな歯ごたえを有する食品に対してはテクスチュロメータ物性並びに官能評価の結果から,畜肉代替比率50%でも対照(大豆タンパク質無添加)と同等の食感を有した.一方,ソーセージとさつま揚げの場合は畜肉代替比率が50%であると,その物性は対照よりも劣った.その理由は両サンプルともかたさと弾力の低いスコアーのためであった.<BR>以上より,冷蔵ゲルはゲル状食品において畜肉や魚肉すり身の高い代替が可能であった.これは冷蔵ゲルのもつしなやかで喉ごしのよいゲル物性が最終食品の物性に活用されたためであり,冷蔵ゲルの性質が畜肉や魚肉すり身との親和性を向上したためであると考えられた.この冷蔵ゲルの高い親和性は,冷蔵ゲルが加熱ゲルのようなS-S結合主体のゲル化ではなく,疎水結合や水素結合主体のゲル化であると考えられる2)ことに基因していると推察された.

本稿では,スーパーマーケットにおける顧客の購買行動の分析とマーケティング意思決定支援を目的に開発したABISS(Agent-Based In-Store Simulator)の研究経過と得られた知見について解説する.ABISSの開発にあたっては,対象スーパーマーケットの協力のもとで,顧客の店内行動と購買行動のデータを取得し,その分析結果にもとづいて,エージェント・ベース・シミュレータを実現している.そして,「データマイニング」と「シミュレーション」を統合することで,利用者に対する説得力の強い,しかも,意思決定者の納得感のある非専門家にも使いやすいシステムの実現をはかった.
