Big time-series data have been generated in various applications including sensor networks, financial systems, online documents, medical information, web access records, social networking services, etc. How can we efficiently and effectively find typical patterns? How can we statistically summarize all the sequences, and achieve a meaningful segmentation? What are the major tools for forecasting and outlier detection? This paper summarizes our recent work, which includes: SpikeM that analyzes the rise and fall patterns of influence propagation in social networking services, TriMine for fast mining and forecasting of complex time-stamped events, AutoPlait for automatic mining of co-evolving multidimensional time sequences, EcoWeb as ecology-inspired nonlinear dynamical systems for pattern extraction from online activities, FUNNEL for automatic mining of spatially co-evolving epidemics, CompCube for non-linear mining of competing local activities, and RegimeCast for real-time forecasting of data streams.

In this study, we investigated the influence of visual information on the food preference of toddlers. Forty 2- to 3-year-old toddlers participated in two tasks: a naming task and a preference task. We prepared photographs of vegetables and fruits and then made line drawings of the photographs. We selected high and low familiarity foods based on wholesale quantity orders for the last six years. At first, we presented the high and low familiarity food images side by side. Participants were asked to choose a favorite one and say the name of the food. Results showed that the effect of the naming task on preference was different between vegetables and fruits. The visual information of color and texture might be important factors for a food's visual preference.

It is difficult to track down the Levantine origins of the six Syro-Palestinian deities found in New Kingdom Egypt (Baal, Reshef, Hauron, Anat, Astarte, and Qedeshet). Part of the problems is that the images of these deities, venerated both by the royal family and by the ordinary people, were much Egyptianised. It has been pointed out that Syro-Palestinian art was greatly influenced by Egypt, Anatolia and Mesopotamia, which plausibly results in the assumption that Egyptian styles, once exported to Syria-palestine, may have come back to Egypt in the form of 're-imported' images of these deities. This paper will discuss, as a case study, the means by which the representation of the goddess Qedeshet was established.<br> The investigation leads us to the following conslustions: 1) the motif of a naked female <i>en face</i> might have been imported from Egypt to Syria-Palestine before the New Kingdom, but then part of this iconography was possibly brought back to Egypt with the concept of Qedeshet, 2) the idea of the goddess standing on the back of an animal was not Egyptian originally, and as for Qedeshet, the influence of the goddess Ishtar in Mesopotamia would be very important, 3) the snakes in the hands of Qedeshet probably reflect the Egyptian view in which the serpent is the symbol of magical protection, resurrection and vitality in the afterlife.<br> Under the circumstances, it can be deduced that the motif of the goddess Qedeshet in the New Kingdom has not been dominated primarily either by Egypt or by Syria-Palestine but is in fact composed of elements of iconography and concepts from both regions. Some could be originally Egyptian components, introduced into Syria-Palestine earlier and re-imported into Egypt with Syro-Palestinian factors, while others were newly brought into Egypt, and assimilated to some extent with Egyptian ideas on particular aspects.

HMD(Head Mounted Display)は装着者に対して、コンピュータが作り出した仮想空間にあたかも実際にいるような臨場感を与えることができる.しかしながら, HMD装着者は両眼をディスプレイで覆われるため表情の把握が妨げられるという問題が起こる.本報告では, HMDディスプレイの外側, すなわち, HMDは装着者の対面相手側の面にHMD装着者の眼を表示するEye-through HMDを提案する.Eye-through HMDは, HMDを付けていても相手に眼の動きを見せることが可能となるので対話が妨げられない.という特徴をもっている.また、応用の一つとしてのPoppet Eyesついて述べる.

新型リニアアクチュエータ(呼称:トンネルアクチュエータ 日立製)とリニアモーションボールガイド,0.034nm分解能変位フィードバックセンサを用いて20kg質量のステージをPID制御で位置決めし,分解能0.3nm,100μmステップの応答を繰り返してかたより誤差0.04nm,ばらつき誤差0.09nmを得た.

第三セクター鉄道は,地域公共交通の維持・発展を目的として作られた制度である.この第三セクター鉄道という方式は,臨海鉄道などの貨物輸送を除けば,初めに岩手県にある三陸鉄道に導入され,赤字ローカル線の黒字経営を実現した.それによって第三セクター鉄道が評価されこととなった.ところがポストバブル期には第三セクター鉄道の経営に厳しさを増した.その結果,鉄道経営における第三セクター方式への疑問も出されたが,整備新幹線の建設に伴う並行在来線の維持のために第三セクター方式が活用されることとなり,このたび再び見直されることになった.本発表では,長野新幹線の開業によって開業したしなの鉄道を事例としながら並行在来線の第三セクター化を取り上げ,地域社会の持続的発展における影響について考察していくことにする.

鈍的外傷による胸部大動脈損傷は,受傷直後より30分以内に大半が死亡する重篤な疾患である.好発部位としては通常は内膜,中膜の断裂により大動脈峡部に限局する仮性瘤の形成を引き起こすことが多い.しかし,今回,画像上も病理学的所見上も通常のB型解離と同様の形態を呈した稀な症例を経験したので報告する.症例は72歳女性で1999年交通事故にて外傷性急性大動脈解離(Stanford B)を発症した.大動脈最大径は35mm程度で多発外傷もあり,降圧加療を行ったが大動脈径の拡大,破裂の兆候等なく,その後外来にて経過観察となった.2005年 2 月,背部痛出現し,CTにて大動脈径は55mmに増大を認め,手術の方針となった.部分体外循環下に下行大動脈人工血管置換術を施行した.術後は対麻痺など認めず良好に経過した.病理組織では,通常の解離と同様の中膜の外側 2 / 3 の部位で解離を認めた.

クックパッドは広く使われている料理のレシピサイトである。クックパッドの人気つくれぽレシピからレシピのタイトルと紹介文を抽出し、どのようなことばが使われているか分析を試みた。ウェブページから人気レシピをダウンロードし、テキスト処理を行ったのち、テキスト・マイニング・ツールKH Coderを用いて解析をおこなった。単語では「簡単」という語が突出して使われており、クックパッドの特徴をよく表していた。共出分析でも、「簡単」と「ある・材料・出来る」が同じクラスターにまとめられた。

間崎万里先生頌寿記念Those who carried out the coup d'etat of Brumaire (November, 9-10) 1799, declared the establishment of the provisional government of the Consuls and started drafting of the new constitution. The ideas of Sieves, one of the members of the revolutionary group and the theorist of it, were adopted as the foundation of the constitution. However, Napoleon Bonaparte interfered with the work of the drafting committee and proceeded to revise the draft so as to make it fit to his purpose. Thus the Constitution of the Year VIII came into being on December 13th with the signatures of the committee members and was later approved by the national plebiscite according to the provision of the constitution. The new constitution, unlike the earlier ones, does not have in the preamble any declaration of rights and consists of only 95 articles. It is briefer than any of the preceding ones, and contains, among others, provisions for the rights of citizenship, the Senate, the legislative power, the government, the courts, and the responsibilities of public functionaries etc. The executive power resides in the three Consuls, the First Consul being entitled to the right of promulgating laws, and appointment and dismissal of officials, civil and military, and remaining two Consuls being only entitled to consultative voice. The members of the legislatures, and all the public officials central and departmental, were all elected by the people formally. Thus the ideals of Sieyes who had, under the principle of the sovereignity of people, tried to prevent the dictatorship by dividing powers, crumbled before the intervention of Napoleon Bonaparte and came to be even utilized by him for his purpose.
