The standard version of the Epic of Gilgamesh composed in Akkadian in the second millennium BC narrates the adventures of Gilgamesh, the tyrannical ruler of Uruk, and his heroic quest for immortality. After Gilgamesh grieved over the death of his beloved friend Enkidu, he became frightened by the inevitability of death and he set out on a long journey to visit Ut-napishtim, the wise, who had survived the flood in ancient times and had been endowed with immortality by the gods. Ut-napishtim, tells Gilgamesh, how he survived the flood with the help of Ea, the god of wisdom. Then he says to Gilgamesh, “But now, who will bring the gods to assembly for you, so you can find the life you search for? Come, for six days and seven nights do not sleep!” (XI 207-209) Gilgamesh fails this challenge and realizes it is impossible for him to obtain eternal life. On the return journey, Gilgamesh manages to find the herb of rejuvenation, which Ut-napishtim had told him about. But a snake chances upon the herb, eats and casts off its skin, depriving of Gilgamesh the rejuvenation he had hoped for.The present author does not agree with M. Eliade who argued that the Epic of Gilgamesh narrates the failed initiation of Gilgamesh due to his lack of wisdom. The editor of the Epic, possibly Sin-l?qi-unninni, must have intended to bring the immortal Ut-napishtim and the mortal Gilgamesh together by incorporating the flood myth into the Epic. The purpose of the editor seems to have been to declare that the times in which immortality could have been given to a human being were 128 long past.At the beginning of the Epic, the editor introduced Gilgamesh as the extremely wise man who “came a distant road and was weary but was granted rest.”Although Gilgamesh had returned to Uruk in vain, it is suggested that he became wise and overcame the fear of death. The Epic narrates, in my view, a story of a successful initiation which has been appealing to the people until today.

思い込みや動静不注視などの交通事故要因には,人の予測特性が作用していると考えられる.本稿では,大脳皮質の動作原理として有力な仮説のひとつである予測符号化理論を組み込んだ深層学習機を用いて,運転において人の視覚が走行環境をどのように予測しているかをシミュレーションする新しいアプローチを提案する.

思い込みや動静不注視などの交通事故要因には,人の予測特性が作用していると考えられる.本稿では,人の視覚をシミュレートする深層学習モデルを用いて,実際の走行映像から人が認知したであろう映像を生成し,実際の映像と比較分析することで,交通ヒヤリハットに影響を及ぼし得る人の予測特性の知見を得たので報告する.

Galloway-Mowat症候群(GAMOS)は小頭症を伴う精神発達遅滞とステロイド抵抗性ネフローゼ症候群(SRNS)などの腎症を呈する疾患である.GAMOSにおける腎症は,治療抵抗性のため生命予後を規定する.今回シクロスポリン(CsA)で長期間の寛解を維持しているGAMOSの1例を報告する.1歳健診で精神発達遅滞,小頭症を指摘された.2歳時に蛋白尿を認め,5歳時にSRNSの基準を満たし,腎生検で巣状分節性糸球体硬化症を認めた.以上よりGAMOSと診断した.SRNSに対してCsAを導入したところ尿蛋白は減少し,7歳時に不完全寛解した.寛解維持した後にCsAの中止を試みたところ蛋白尿が増悪したため,CsAが尿蛋白減少に寄与していると判断した.腎毒性軽減のため8歳時から1日1回の投与へ変更し,14歳時の腎生検で明らかな腎毒性は認めなかった.CsAの単回投与は腎毒性を抑制し,GAMOS腎症のような遺伝性SRNSの予後改善に有効な可能性がある.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the patterns of complicated pedestrian flow with visible pedestrian area model. The coordinates of all pedestrians at each frame is calculated.The pedestrian area is defined as the 90cm circle from the coordinates of each pedestrian. The condition of monodirectional pedestrians which forms groups is similar to the distribution of electric field, so Blobs, Meta-ball, with Bezier Clipping method is used to visualize the pedestrian area. (1) The conflict among pedestrians is reduced by the forming group of monodirectional pedestrians; (2) The pedestrian move along the edge of other group's area because he/she can't cross inside the group; (3) The overlap of group's area illustrates the conflict between groups;The condition of pedestrian flow is analyzed with visible pedestrian area model.

現存する大阪城天守閣は、昭和天皇の即位の御大礼記念行事として企画された日本で最初の鉄骨鉄筋コンクリート製の復興天守閣で、昭和6年に竣功したものである。天守閣は徳川時代の天守台の上に建設されているため、旧石垣に大きな負担をかけないように設計されている。本報文では、復興天守閣の基礎の設計の考え方についてまとめるとともに、天守閣の沈下等について考察を加えるものである。

S状結腸憩室炎による結腸膀胱瘻を5例経験した.平均年齢68.4歳,男性3例女性2例で,5例中3例は他院にて大腸癌あるいは膀胱癌と診断され,1例は人工肛門を造設されていた.主訴は4例で糞尿あるいは気尿を認め,1例は腹痛,腹部膨満感のみであった.5例中3例において,注腸検査,膀胱鏡,MRIにより結腸膀胱瘻が描出可能であった.全例で大腸憩室症の既往があったこと,画像上,腫瘤形成を認めないことから,憩室炎に伴う瘻孔と診断し,S状結腸切除,膀胱部分切除術を施行した.術後経過は全例良好であった.結腸憩室炎による結腸膀胱瘻は比較的稀な疾患であり,自験例5例とともに15年間の報告例を集計し,以前の本邦報告例と比較し,若干の文献的考察を加えて報告する.

The effectiveness, safety and usefulness of ketotifen nasal spray were investigated in 163 patients with allergic rhinitis. Ketotifen nasal spray (0.05mg/puff) was given four times daily for 4 weeks or more. “Slight to high” improvement was recorded in 92.4% of patients and “moderate to high” improvement in 61.0%.Overall usefulness was very high for both perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis. Side effects were noted in six patients (3.7%). Drowsiness was noted in five patients and nasal mucosal pain in only one.The results of this study suggest that ketotifen nasal spray is very useful in the treatment of allergic rhinitis.

街路空間を沿道建築物からの観点で見ると,内部空間と外部空間が存在する.この境界である建築壁面線は,曖昧な境界を構成し中間領域を形成している.この中間領域は,内部空間が外部空間に貫入した「浸み出し」と,外部空間が内部空間に貫入した「入り込み」から構成される.本研究では,「浸み出し」の中間領域を構成する要因を検討し,中間領域の類型化を行った.その結果得られた7類型は直観情報の活動支援装置,活動,商品と,内部情報によりその性格を説明することができた.また,その類型は商品展開型,活動展開型,商品活動展開型,内部情報型,情報不特定型,活動支援装置商品展開型,活動支援装置展開型となることがわかった.

家計の物価予想の形成メカニズムに関する研究の一環として約8000の家計を対象にアンケート調査を2018年5月に実施し、家計が将来の物価や景気についてどのように情報を取得しているのか、家計は中央銀行の存在をどの程度認識しているか、中央銀行の政策にどの程度の関心をもっているか、中央銀行からのメッセージはどのような経路で家計に伝わっているかを調べた。また、中央銀行コミュニケーションに関する理論と実証の最近の研究動向を調べるために、渡辺努がジュネーブの国連統計局主催の会議に2018年5月に出席し最近の研究成果(Storable Goods, Chain Drifts, and the Cost of Living Index)を報告したほか、渡辺努と西村はSEM(Society for Economic Measurement)主催の会議に出席し論文報告を行った(渡辺の報告論文"Product Turnover and the Cost of Living Index: Quality vs. Fashion Effects"、西村の報告論文"Incorporating Market Sentiment in Term Structure Model")。また梶井は、市場と予測に関する理論研究に関して欧州で情報収集と討論を行った。ヨーク大学ではゲーム理論の観点からの討論を行い、その後初期の研究成果をセミナー報告したほか、ウォーリック大学、ベニス大学でも研究報告と意見交換を行った。本科研の研究費は上記の研究活動に加えて、データ収集・加工のための作業謝金、英文校閲謝金等に使用した。なお、本研究課題は基盤研究(S)として採択されたため、基盤研究(A)の研究成果を基盤研究(S)に引き継ぐこととした。

Effect of metallographical factors on the rolling fatigue life of 1%C-1.5%Cr bearing steel was investigated, and the most profitable component for the bearing life was discussed.The results obtained are as follows:(1) Metallographical factors affected on the rolling fatigue life of bearing steel were not amount and size of residual cementite but the chemical compositions soluted in fhe matrix.(2) The most effective factor affected on the rolling fatigue life was carbon content soluted in the matrix and the most desirable carbon content in the matrix was about 0.5 percent.(3) It was recognized that the mechanism of flaking was related to the third stage of the tempering of martensite. This was deduced from the observation of the micro-structure of cyclic stressed area by the transmission electron microscopy and the result of bearing life test of a new type steel with higher silicon of which the starting temperature of the third stage was rised by silicon.

2005年総選挙でブレア労働党に三度敗北したイギリス保守党は, 2回目となるOMOV党首選挙を実施した。その結果, 議員歴4年 (当選2回) にすぎない党内若手モダナイザーのキャメロンが, ベテラン党内右派・トラディショナリストのデーヴィスに大差で勝利した。これは, 前回 (2001年) の党首選挙と比較してみると, 全く正反対ともいえる結果であった。そこで本稿は, イギリス保守党員の政治観に関する筆者独自の調査分析をも踏まえて, (1) キャメロンの勝因, (2) キャメロン選出の意義について検討した。彼の勝因は, 「党大会」演説と巧みなメディア戦略 (イメージ管理) によって「政権奪回可能な党首」の演出に成功した点, そして党内外の情勢変化に党員の多くが反応した点などに求めることができる。結果的にキャメロンは, イギリス保守党史上初めて「下院議員, 党員 (党大会), メディアの合作でつくられた党首」として位置づけられる。
