宇宙航空研究開発機構では,将来のブレイクスルーとしての超音速旅客機実現を目指し2005年10月に飛行実験に成功した小型超音速実験機(NEXST-1)に引き続き,新たな飛行実験プロジェクトとして,2006年度より「静粛超音速研究機」(S3TD:Silent SuperSonic Technology Demonstrator)の予備設計に着手し,2008年~2009年度に基本設計を実施した.S3TDは,完全自律離着陸及び超音速飛行可能な無人機で,ソニックブーム低減技術を飛行実証することを目的としたものである.本報告書では,超音速飛行実験計画及び飛行実験システム(研究機システム及び実験場システム)の設計検討について,JAXAが独自に検討した成果及びJAXAとプライムメーカの契約に基づき実施された成果をまとめる.

Background: Current guidelines equally recommend direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and warfarin for atrial fibrillation (AF) patients with a bioprosthetic valve (BPV); however, there are limited data comparing DOACs and warfarin in AF patients with an aortic BPV.Methods and Results: This post-hoc subgroup analysis of a multicenter, prospective, observational registry (BPV-AF Registry) aimed to compare DOACs and warfarin in AF patients with an aortic BPV. The primary outcome was a composite of stroke, systemic embolism, major bleeding, heart failure requiring hospitalization, all-cause death, or BPV reoperation. The analysis included 479 patients (warfarin group, n=258; DOAC group, n=221). Surgical aortic valve replacement was performed in 74.4% and 36.7% of patients in the warfarin and DOAC groups, respectively. During a mean follow up of 15.5 months, the primary outcome occurred in 45 (17.4%) and 32 (14.5%) patients in the warfarin and DOAC groups, respectively. No significant difference was found in the primary outcome between the 2 groups (adjusted hazard ratio: 0.88, 95% confidence interval: 0.51–1.50). No significant multiplicative interaction was observed between the anticoagulant effects and type of aortic valve procedure (P=0.577).Conclusions: Among AF patients with an aortic BPV, no significant difference was observed in the composite outcome of adverse clinical events between patients treated with warfarin and those treated with DOACs, suggesting that DOACs can be used as alternatives to warfarin in these patients.

Precision nutrition, also referred to as personalized nutrition, focuses on the individual to determine the individual’s most effective eating plan to prevent or treat disease. A precision nutrition for infants requires the determination of the profile of human milk. We compared the lipid profiles of the foremilk (i.e., the initial milk of a breastfeed) and hindmilk (the last milk) of six Japanese subjects and evaluated whether a human milk lipid profile is useful for precision nutrition even though the fat concentration fluctuates during lactation. We detected and quantified 527 species with a lipidome analysis by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The fat concentration in hindmilk (120.6 ± 66.7 μmol/mL) was significantly higher than that in foremilk (68.6 ± 33.3 μmol/mL). While the total carbon number of fatty acids in triglyceride (TG) was highest in C52 for all subjects, the second or third number differed among the subjects. Both the distribution of total carbon number of fatty acids included in TG and the distribution of fatty acids in TG classified by the number of double bonds were almost the same in the foremilk and hindmilk in each subject. The lipids levels containing docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid in total lipids of the foremilk and the hindmilk were almost the same in each subject. Among the sphingolipids and glycerophospholipids, the level of sphingomyelin was the highest in four subjects’ milk, and phosphatidylcholine was the highest in the other two subjects’ milk. The order of their major species was the same in each foremilk and hindmilk. A clustering heatmap revealed the differences between foremilk and hindmilk in the same subject were smaller than the differences among individuals. Our analyses indicate that a human-milk lipid profile reflects individual characteristics and is a worthwhile focus for precision nutrition.

To overcome the limitation of low network density and sparse distribution of meteorological stations, spatial interpolation is being performed for estimating meteorological variables that are not geographically covered by existing observation network. While there are several readily available spatial interpolation techniques, it is still difficult to determine which one best estimates actual observation. Considering the stimulus for disaster risk reduction, hydrological, agricultural, and other applications of interpolated data, this study compared six interpolation techniques (Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW), Completely Regularized Spline (CRS), Tension Spline (TS), Ordinary Kriging (OK), Universal Kriging (UK), and ANUSPLIN) that have been recommended in tropical maritime region. Validation results comparing historical monthly and interpolated rainfall data from 1981-2010 in 65 stations in the Philippines show that OK has the best performance among the aforementioned techniques followed by ANUSPLIN and TS. Ultimately, this study is a contribution to the existing inadequate literatures that have documented and evaluated interpolation techniques that can be used in archipelagic regions with prominent climate variability.

Organic electronics is an extensively studied subject opening new horizons in electronics technology. It has attracted great attention as a technology to enable flexible electronic devices through solution processing of organic and polymeric materials. However, patterning of organic materials to construct device components still remains one of the major hurdles to be overcome due to problems with chemical processing. Fundamentally this challenge originates from the limited number of options regarding orthogonal solvents. Recently, we have identified supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) and segregated hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) as universal, non-damaging solvents for most non-fluorinated polymeric materials. These unconventional solvents expand processing options from the two-dimensional plane to three-dimensional space by drawing another orthogonal axis. Taking advantage of those noble solvents and fluorinated photoresists, we were able to make patterns of functional organic materials photolithographically. Furthermore, our orthogonal processing method has been applied to the fabrication of a patterned polymer light-emitting device in scCO2 and an organic thin-film transisotor in HFEs.

Over ten-year routine inspection results on organochlorine pesticide (OCP) residue were summarized, OCPs residues, including BHC isomers (α, β, γ, and δ-BHC), DDT analogs (p,p′-DDD, p,p′-DDE, o,p′-DDT, and p,p′-DDT), and pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB) and its metabolites (pentachloroaniline and methyl pentachlorophenyl sulfide (MPCPS)), in 1,665 samples for 37 types of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) using the QuEChERS method coupled with the GC-ECD. Based on the maximal residue levels for OCPs set by Asian pharmacopeias, PCNB contamination in Ginseng radix as well as the total DDT and PCNB contamination in Panacis quinquefolii radix are of concern. OCP residues in different parts of Panax ginseng were also compared. The total BHC residue in leaf and fibrous root, as well as the total DDT and PCNB residue in all parts, exceeded MRL of 0.1 mg/kg. Overall, this study provided meaningful results about OCP residue in CHM for pharmaceutical industries and consumers.

2016-2018年の3ヶ年で、千葉県御宿町沖で1609年に沈没したスペイン船籍ガレオン船サン・フランシスコ号の船体遺存可能性の調査及び初期マニラ・アカプルコ交易船の船体・造船技術及び関連遺物把握の考古学研究を実施した。御宿町の岩和田沖合とされる同船の推定沈没範囲において、船体や関連遺物の遺存状況の検証を明らかにする水中考古学探査・潜水調査を行った。マルチナロービーム音響測深機による海底地形計測及び磁気探査、潜水調査によって、沈没可能性地点を浅海と沖合岩礁(真潮根)の二つに絞り込んだ。サン・フランシスコ号関連の文献精査、国外のマニラ・アカプルコ交易沈没船遺跡の比較研究を実施した。

Feeding studies on rice genetically modified with soybean glycinin were performed on rats for four weeks. The rats were divided into three groups, each being fed on (I) only a commercial diet, (II) this diet plus control rice and (III) this diet plus rice genetically modified with glycinin. The rats were fed with 10 g/kg-weight of rice every day by oral administration. During the test period, the rats in every group grew well without marked differences in appearance, food intake, body weight, or cumulative body weight gain. There were also no significant differences in the blood count, blood composition or internal organ weights among the rats. Necropsy at the end of the experiment indicated neither pathological symptoms nor histopathological abnormalities in the liver and kidney. Judging from these results, the rice genetically modified with glycinin is considered to have been essentially the same in nutritional and biochemical characteristics as the control rice.

A 12-year-old mixed-breed dog presented with a 2-month history of abdominal distension. Radiographic examination, abdominal ultrasonography, and computed tomography revealed a mass in the cecum (15.0 × 11.9 × 4.5 cm). The cecal mass was surgically removed and examined histopathologically. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells expressed S-100 and neuron specific enolase but not α-smooth muscle actin and CD117 (c-kit). These histologic and immunohistochemical features indicated that the mass was consistent with a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST). In dogs, most MPNSTs arise from the brachial plexus, spinal nerve root, and skin of the extremities. However, gastrointestinal MPNSTs in dogs have not been described previously. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report to describe cecal MPNST in a dog.

This project's goal is a digital text corpus of Zeami's critical writings, with a focus on his first and most famous text Fushikaden, and their analysis using computational methods. The corpus will include not only transcriptions of historical manuscripts to digitally model their genealogy but also Yoshida Togo's first print publication and Nose Asaji's first annotated edition for an analysis of Zeami's modern reception. A critical evaluation of the results achieved during this fellowship will inform further consideration for building a digital scholarly edition of Fushikaden.

Aneurysms of the A1 segment of the anterior cerebral artery tend to develop in combination with various vascular anomalies of the A1 segment. Arterial branches that originate from the A1 segment and perfuse cortical regions are known to be rare. In this report, we describe a 48-year-old woman who presented with a ruptured aneurysm at the origin of an anomalous cortical artery arising from the A1 segment, for which microsurgical neck clipping was performed. Intraoperatively, the anomalous artery was seen to originate from the A1 segment, running into the interhemispheric fissure. An aneurysm was located at the bifurcation of the anomalous artery and the A1 segment. Postoperative angiography showed that the anomalous artery has branched into the fronto-orbital artery and the frontopolar artery and terminated as the anterior internal frontal arteries. We report a rare case of an aneurysm arising from an anomalous callosomarginal artery that arose from the A1 segment and perfused the cortical region. It is of significance to recognize that an aneurysm can develop at the origin of an anomalous artery that arises from the A1 segment.

In this paper, a broadband tunable power divider (TPD), whose power division ratio (PDR) can be theoretically tuned from -∞ to +∞, is proposed. The new design is based on a Wilkinson power divider, a branch line coupler, and a new combination of phase reconfigurable synthesized transmission lines (PRSTLs) that comprises varactor diodes as the phase shifters (PSs). The operating principles and design equations will be provided with thorough discussion. For proof-of-concept demonstration, a prototype was designed at 2.4GHz. The performance in the measurement is summarized as follows: the operating bandwidth = 25% (2.1GHz-2.7GHz), very wide PDR tuning range of ±29dB, maximum insertion loss = 1.6dB, and switchable output phase of 0° or 180°.

Background Although there is a close connection between emergency medical services (EMS) system and the outcome of out-of-hospital ventricular fibrillation (VF), few data are available regarding the situation in Japan. Methods and Results A prospective multicenter study of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest was conducted according to the Utstein guidelines. A total of 4,383 patients who were given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by EMS personnel for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest were enrolled. The proportion of VF or pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT) as the first cardiac rhythm after cardiac arrest was 16.2% with a mean call-to-initial-recorded-electrocardiogram (ECG) interval of 11.1 min. In a subgroup of patients with witnessed collapse, the predicted incidence of VF or pulseless VT was 62.7% at the time of cardiac arrest, and the decline accelerated with every minute that the collapse-to-initial ECG interval was delayed. Multivariate analysis showed that the odds ratio for VF or pulseless VT after collapse-to-initial ECG interval was 0.91 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.89-0.94, p<0.001), and 1.54 (95%CI, 1.24-1.97, p<0.001) after bystander CPR. Conclusions In Japan, VF occurred in 63% of cases at the time of cardiac arrest and the performance of bystander CPR appeared to prolong VF. (Circ J 2005; 69: 1157 - 1162)

Objective This study aimed to explore the support extended by prefectural public health nurses (PHNs) toward the human resource development (HRD) of municipal PHNs in Japan.Methods We performed a qualitative descriptive study involving nine prefectural PHNs from April 2019 to May 2020. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews using an interview guide, described qualitatively, coded, and then categorized.Results Five categories were extracted. “Clarifying the needs and problems related to HRD and daily PHN activities in the municipalities,” “Creating an environment where all municipal PHNs have equal opportunities for off-the-job training,” and “Helping municipal PHNs recognize the meaning of practice and develop an evaluation perspective” were extracted from the prefectural government PHNs and prefectural health center (HC) PHNs. “Clarifying problems and future prospects to encourage the growth of PHNs” and “Creating an environment where the significance and value of the activities of PHNs are recognized within the organization and HRD can easily take place” were extracted from the HC PHNs.Conclusion Much of the HRD support provided by the prefectural PHNs to the municipal PHNs was analogous to the PHN activities provided to the community and residents. To promote HRD effectively, prefectural PHNs should apply their individual care skills to the HRD of municipal PHNs.

The pathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas syrinage pv. actinidiae causes bacterial canker disease, which is the most damaging disease afflicting kiwifruit (Actinidia chinensis). The most prevalent strain is biovar 3 (Psa3), which is highly pathogenic. Therefore, Psa3-resistant varieties of kiwifruit are urgently needed. A previous study reported that Actinidia rufa, a wild Japanese species related to kiwifruit, is highly resistant to Psa3. Genome-wide DNA markers may be useful to locate the loci that confer Psa3 resistance. Therefore, in the present study, we used published kiwifruit genome sequence information to design 1,101 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers covering the entire kiwifruit genome in silico. We next examined DNA polymorphisms in more than 1,000 polymerase chain reaction products for potential use as SSR markers among A. rufa Fuchu and A. chinensis FCM1, a pollen-providing parent Fuchu A. chinensis male 1, and other kiwifruit cultivars in order to develop Psa3 resistant kiwifruit cultivars. We finally obtained 351 polymorphic markers, in the entire kiwifruit genome, which can be applied to produce next-generation kiwifruit cultivars, including Psa3-resistant cultivars.

Background This study was designed to evaluate the effects of low-frequency electrical stimulation (LFES) on muscle strength and blood flow in patients with advanced chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods and Results Patients with CHF (n=15; age 56.5±5.2 years; New York Heart Association III - IV; ejection fraction 18.7±3.3%) were examined before and after 6 weeks of LFES (10 Hz) of the quadriceps and calf muscles of both legs (1 h/day, 7 days/week). Dynamometry was performed weekly to determine maximal muscle strength (Fmax; N) and isokinetic peak torque (PTmax; Nm); blood flow velocity (BFV) was measured at baseline and after 6 weeks of LFES using pulsed-wave Doppler velocimetry of the right femoral artery. Six weeks of LFES significantly increased Fmax (from 224.5±96.8 N to 340.0±99.4 N; p<0.001), and also PTmax (from 94.5±41.5 Nm to 135.3±28.8 Nm; p<0.01). BFV in the femoral artery increased after 6 weeks from 35.7±15.4 cm/s to 48.2±18.1 cm/s (p<0.05); BFV values at rest before and after 6 weeks of LFES did not differ significantly. Conclusions LFES may improve muscle strength and blood supply, and could be recommended for the treatment of patients with severe CHF. (Circ J 2006; 70: 75 - 82)

ヘブライ語は多層からなる言語である。今日おもにイスラエルで話されている現代ヘブライ語はその最新の段階にある。本稿はヘブライ語の諸層を概観する。ヘブライ語は何世紀もの間、ユダヤ人にとって聖なる言葉であり、彼らに宗教的なアイデンティティーを付与してきた。19-20世紀に復興した現代ヘブライ語は非宗教的な文脈で用いられる。この変化は、現代のユダヤ人が自らの言語を「イスラエル・ヘブライ語」と呼んで、古代ヘブライ語が付与するのとは異なるアイデンティティーを求めていることと関連している。
