海底噴火に伴う巨大軽石の種類は,海底火山活動の種類や形成環境に左右される.そのため巨大軽石の解析は過去の海底火山活動や噴火環境の推定に役立つ.今回,奥羽脊梁山脈に分布するグリーンタフ中から発見した巨大軽石は気泡が伸長した跡が残されており,グリーンタフ中で初めて材木状軽石と認定できた.材木状軽石は水深約1000 m以深で形成される気泡がパイプ状に伸長した巨大軽石である.本発見は本研究地域のグリーンタフを噴出した古海底火山活動の場を制約する重要な鍵になる.材木状軽石は琉球弧や伊豆・小笠原弧の背弧リフト帯から発見されている.現在の背弧リフト帯における材木状軽石と海底熱水鉱床の存在は,本研究地域の材木状軽石と黒鉱鉱床の存在という点で類似する.この事実は本研究地域が背弧リフト帯と同様のテクトニクスや火山活動下にあった可能性を示唆している.

Aim: Cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) is an important lipid transfer factor in plasma that enhances prothrombinase activity in purified systems. This study was conducted to test the association of plasma CETP activity with venous thrombosis (VTE) and to address the procoagulant mechanism of CETP activity in prothrombinase assays.Methods: We measured CETP lipid transfer activity in plasmas of 49 male VTE patients and in plasmas of matched controls. CETP procoagulant activity was tested in purified prothrombinase systems.Results: CETP lipid transfer activity levels were significantly higher in VTE patients than in controls (p=0.0008). A subset of patients carrying the CETP mutations Ala373Pro and Arg451Gln, which were also linked to the VTE risk, showed significantly higher plasma CETP activity than the noncarriers. The plasma CETP activity negatively correlated with APTT, suggesting that the CETP activity is associated with plasma coagulability. Recombinant (r) CETP bound to both factor Xa (Kd=15 nM) and Gla-domainless factor Xa (Kd=59 nM), whereas rCETP enhanced prothrombin activation by factor Xa, but not by Gla-domainless factor Xa. rCETP also required factor Va for enhancement of prothrombinase activity. When we addressed the effects of mutations in CETP on prothrombinase activity, Gln451-rCETP was found to have five-fold higher thrombin generation activity than wt-rCETP or Pro373-rCETP.Conclusions: Elevated CETP lipid transfer activity in plasma was associated with the risk of VTE. Gln451-CETP, which is linked to VTE, has much higher procoagulant activity than wt-CETP. CETP might act as a physiologic procoagulant by mechanisms that involve its direct binding to factor Xa.

The composition and diversity of the gut microbiota are known to be different between babies and adults. The aim of this project was to compare the level of bifidobacteria between babies and adults and to investigate the influence of lifestyle factors on the level of this bacterium in the gut. During this study, the levels of bifidobacteria in 10 human babies below 2 years of age were compared with that of 10 human adults above 40 years. The level of bifidobacteria proved to be significantly higher in babies in comparison with adults. This investigation concluded that a combination of several factors, such as age, diet, and BMI, has an important effect on the level of bifidobacteria in adults, while in babies, a combination of diet and age may influence the level of intestinal bifidobacteria.

This paper reports the activity in the development of the observation system of seafloor crustal deformation for understanding mechanism of interplate earthquakes at subduction plate boundaries around Japan. Currently, the method for the seafloor geodesy is under development in order to overcome several difficulties. The position of the sea-bottom transponders at the vicinity of the Nankai trough and the Japan Trench is observed using a GPS/Acoustic measurement system. Early results from processed data show a scatter of 4cm standard deviation for repeated horizontal positioning from drifting survey vessel. This paper describes two techniques developed to realize precise acoustic ranging, automatically detecting and correcting the Doppler-shift of acoustic propagation signal due to ship's drifting and attitude motion, and theoretically forming a pulse of one wavelength in cross correlation between transmission and reception of long-coded signals.

本論文では, 自閉症児の音声言語獲得の基盤となる前言語的伝達行動 (共同注視, 叙述的指さし, リファレンシャル・ルッキング) が成立するための条件を, 「環境の中にある刺激」, 「大人」, 「子ども」の3項関係の中で明らかにし, それを確立するための心理学的指導技法について検討を加えた.まず, 自閉症児の対人的相互作用, 意志伝達の困難の基礎にある知覚・認知系の障害を検討した.その結果, 重度自閉症児に, さまざまな伝達機能を形成する場合, (1) 社会的刺激に対する視覚的注意を高めるための訓練, (2) 特定の方向に注意を定位するための腕や指の運動反応形成訓練, (3) 大人の視線の動きや, 自分自身の視線の動きと指さしなどの運動反応を協応させるための訓練, (4) 外界からの社会的フィードバックに対する応答性を高める訓練が有効であることが明らかになった.

ビスフェノールA(BPA)は,エストロゲン活性を示すことから内分泌撹乱化学物質と疑われている物質であり,社会的にも注目を集めている。この物質はポリカーボネート(PC)やエポキシ樹脂等の原料であることから,このような製品からの溶出について多くの関心が払われてきた。しかし,著者らが廃プラスチックからのBPAの溶出について検討したところ,塩化ビニル(PVC)製品からの溶出量が極めて大きいということが分かった。家庭において,よく水にさらされるPVC製品にホースがある。これらPVC製ホースからのBPAの溶出を調べたところ,実験に供した9製品すべてから溶出が確認され,濃度範囲は4.0~1730μg/lであった。製品の一つについて,水との接触時間を24時間まで変えて溶出濃度を求めたところ,最大558μg/lであった。単に水を通過させただけでも8.7μg/lのBPAが溶出した。これは,PC製品からの溶出濃度に相当する。

アマニタトキシン(キノコ毒)中毒による劇症肝炎の症例を報告する.45歳,男性,増強する黄疸を主訴として来院.入院時の血液生化学検査でGOT3,410IU/l, GPT 3,762IU/l,プロトロンビン時間150秒以上と著明な肝機能障害を認めた.経過中,肝性脳症II度発症したため,劇症肝炎の診断の下に治療を開始する.病歴,検査結果より典型的アマニタトキシンによる劇症肝炎と診断.血漿交換等を含む積極的治療をおこなった結果臨床症状は回復に向い,救命しえた.本邦においてアマニタトキシン中毒による劇症肝炎の報告はいまだなく,稀有な症例と考え報告する.

[Purpose] The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of regular treadmill exercise on skeletal muscle Rictor-Akt and mTOR-Raptor-S6K1 signaling pathway in high-fat diet-induced obese mice. [Subjects and Methods] Four- week-old C57BL/6 mice were adopted and classified into normal diet group (ND, n = 10), normal diet and training group (NDT, n = 10), high-fat diet group (HF, n = 10), and high-fat diet and training group (HFT, n = 10). The exercise program consisted of a treadmill exercise provided at low intensity for 1–4 weeks, and moderate intensity for 5–8 weeks. [Results] The Western blot method was used to measure the expression of mTOR, Raptor, S6K1, Rictor, and Akt proteins in the soleus muscle. mTOR levels were significantly higher in the HF group than in the ND and NDT groups. Raptor/mTORC1 and S6K1 levels were significantly higher in the HF group than in all the other groups. Akt levels were significantly lower in the HF group than in the NDT group. The risk of obesity may be associated with the overactivation of the mTOR-Raptor-S6K1 signaling pathway and a decrease in Akt levels. [Conclusion] This study also indicates that performing aerobic exercise may be associated with the downregulation of the mTOR-Raptor-S6K1 pathway.

Tensile behaviors of cryogenic steels, which contain 0 to 12wt% nickel, were examined to obtain the fundamental knowledge related to the role of retained austenite in the improvement of fracture toughness. Although retained austenite of 8% and 12% nickel steel, which were manufactured by the special heat treatment composed of quenching, intermediate heat treatment, and tempering, was stable under the deep cooling at –196 ºC, it transformed to martensite by straining around 10% at –196 ºC. The strain hardening behavior was divided into two categories. One is that the maximum strain hardening appears just after yielding, then the strain hardening gradually decreases with increasing strain. It was related to 0% to 2% nickel steels, which include less retained austenite. Another is that the strain hardening increases just after yielding with the increase of strain, then it gradually decreases. In this case, higher strain hardening was derived. It was related to 5% to 12% nickel steels which included a certain amount of retained austenite. The increase of strain hardening under low temperature was attributed to the solute nickel and the formation of martensite, which act as a hard second phase, by the work induced martensitic transformation.

Twenty-six cases subjected to neck surgery were operated under epidural anesthesia. These consisted of one case of laryngectomy, three cases of thyroidectomy, four cases of resection of median cervical cyst, twelve cases of thyroplasty type I, five cases of arytenoid aduction and one case of resection of lypoma. In the studies, it was shown that epidural anesthesia had benefits for thyroidectomy, thyroplasty type I and arytenoid aduction. The patients were conscious and without pain while undergoing the operations, allowing the surgeon to speak with them to make sure of the patient's voice changes. The anesthesia was also good for laryngectomy and radical neck dissection of its broad numbring area. Usually the patients were most uneasy bewfore and during their operations. Therefore, we used a much larger dose of tranquilizer before and during the operations. By using a smaller dose of anesthetics than is used for local anesthesia, we found that this anesthesia had a broader numbring area resembling general anesthesia. It was concluded that the epidural anesthesia should be used more frequently for neck surgery than types.

In Korea, pear juice has been used for tenderization of meat since early times, suggesting the presence of proteases. The objective of this research was to identify the protease in the pears and to investigate the possibility as a new tenderizer of meat. Crude pear proteases were prepared from Korean pear (Shingo). The proteolytic activity was measured by using N-α-benzyloxy carbonyl-L-lysine-nitrophenyl ester (CBZ-Lys-ONp) as substrate. The optimum activities of this protease were found at around pH 7.0 and 37°C. When porcine actomyosin was treated with this pear protease at 25°C and pH 7.0, myosin heavy chain was progressively degraded during the reaction. On the other hand, actin was degraded slightly under the same condition. Other myofibrillar proteins were also degraded by this protease. The present study suggested that Korean pears contained protease which may be useful as a meat tenderizer.

We analyzed the status of tumor development in dogs by breed based on tumor cases that presented to the Department of Veterinary Pathology of the Gifu University for diagnostic examinations over eight years (2005–2012). We also calculated the crude incidence of tumors in dogs by breed based on the results of a survey conducted in 2011 in Gifu Prefecture. The most common sites of tumor development included the skin, digestive organs, and mammary glands. Smaller dogs showed a tendency to have a higher incidence of breast tumors. We thus identified dog breeds with a higher crude incidence of tumors (Bernese mountain dog, golden retriever, corgi, etc.) and those with a lower crude incidence of tumors (Pomeranian, poodle, Chihuahua, etc.). Unlike the current trends for domestic dogs in the US and Europe, Japan has a higher number of small dogs as pets; it is therefore necessary to develop a policy for canine cancer specific to Japan.

Two wood trunks, one charred and 75 years old and the other not charred and more than 199 years old, were collected from Hayakawa ignimbrite of Niigata Yakeyama Volcano. They were investigated using the radiocarbon wiggle-matching method to determine the age of the eruption. The result was 1225-1244 cal AD (95.4%), which is over 200 years younger than previous estimates. The eruption, including the Hayakawa ignimbrite, was the largest during the volcano's life period of 3000 years. Co-ignimbrite fallout KGc ash has been found at many archaeological sites spreading on the eastern flanks of Myoko Volcano and the Takada Plain. The age obtained here will provide a useful time constraint for archaeologists and volcanologists studying this area.

Background:Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with activation of the sympathetic nervous system, and patients with this condition often experience elevated blood pressure (BP), increased BP variability, and nocturnal BP surges.Methods and Results:The SYMPLICITY HTN-3 trial was a large prospective, randomized, blinded, sham-controlled trial of renal denervation for treatment of uncontrolled, apparently treatment-resistant hypertension. In a post hoc analysis, we examined the effect of renal denervation vs. sham control on office and ambulatory (including nocturnal) systolic BP in patients with and without OSA. 26% (94/364) of renal denervation subjects and 32% (54/171) of sham control subjects had OSA. Baseline office and nighttime systolic BP values were similar in both arms, including in subjects with and without OSA. Compared with sham control, renal denervation reduced the 6-month office systolic BP in subjects with (−17.0±22.4 vs. −6.3±26.1 mmHg, P=0.01) but not in subjects without OSA (−14.7±24.5 vs. −13.4±26.4 mmHg, P=0.64), P=0.07 for the interaction between treatment arm and OSA status. In those with sleep apnea, renal denervation was also associated with a reduction in maximum (−4.8±21.8 vs. 4.5±24.6 mmHg, P=0.03) and average peak (−5.6±20.4 vs. 3.2±22.4 mmHg, P=0.02) nighttime systolic BP.Conclusions:OSA subjects appeared to be responsive to renal denervation therapy. However, this hypothesis requires prospective testing.

粘着トラップによる3種ゴキブリ(チャバネゴキブリ,ワモンゴキブリおよびトビイロゴキブリ)の捕獲率「(捕獲数÷放飼数)×100」は日ごとに低下した.これは粘着トラップを避ける個体が増加したことによると判断した.チャバネゴキブリでは令別,雌雄での比較で♂>♀>老齢>若令の順に捕獲率は高かった.特に,若令は捕獲されにくかった.一週間にわたり捕獲をまぬがれた個体(経験群)と新しく放飼された個体(未経験群) では,常に前者の捕獲率が低かった.これは,経験ゴキブリ群が粘着トラップに捕獲されないような行動を「学習」したものと推察した.経験群をしばらくトラップから避けて飼育する中断期間を与えたところ,トラップを避ける行動は5週間まで維持された.粘着板を避けるには触角の働きが大きいと思われる.触角の先端部の微毛は粘着面を感知するだけでなく,粘着面への付着を防いでいると考えられる.生きている間は触角を空中に保持し,死亡すると付着した.モニタリングや殺虫剤の効果判定の目的で,粘着トラップを連続して使用したり,頻繁に使用したりすると,トラップ捕獲率が低下し,得られたゴキブリ指数がその場のゴキブリ生息状況を正しく反映しない可能性があることに留意すべきである.
