日本福祉大学図書館は,電子図書館を構築中である。われわれの図書館では,電子図書館構築にむけて数々の改革を手がけてきた。電子図書館のための情報インフラストラクチャの整備,電子コンテンツの品揃え,Web・データベース連携技術の獲得,Web OPACの改革,図書館員の情報発信能力の拡大などである。電子図書館は実用の段階に入った。実用の段階であるということは,利用者から電子図書館は便利であるという評価を獲得することこそ重要である。そのためには,図書館機能の基本機能とも言える図書館利用者に一次資料提供を広げることである。また,図書館サービスをインターネットを通じて利用できるようにする。具体的には,Webを使って,図書館サービスを統合することが必要である。そのために,情報発信ツールとしてWebのツールを作成した。インターネットの時代に,図書館へ寄せられた利用者の期待に応えるには,図書館に情報専門家としての力を蓄えることこそ重要である。

The significant attenuation of seismic motion in the west of the 2001 Geiyo earthquake is inferred from strong motion distributions, observed seismograms and their spectra. Since this attenuation is identified even in the distribution of borehole motions, that is assumed to arise in a deeper part like the mantle wedge. If we assume a low-Q zone in the mantle wedge, a strong motion simulation with Qs = 20-30 can reproduce the observations. This zone may be related to dehydration of the Philippine sea plate.

The Earthquake Prediction Data Center (EPDC) of the Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo, has been receiving the hypocentral parameters and arrival time data acquired through the University Information System for Earthquake Prediction Research, which is operated by Japanese national universities under the national program for earthquake prediction. Through the cooperation of these universities, the data and hypocenters were compiled and stored in the database system of the EPDC. There are two types of database; one is the real-time database and the other is the revised database which is sent by magnetic tapes from each regional center. EPDC has prepared to open these database for every seismologists to use and now the real-time database can be used by the real-time monitoring system and the revised database is open to be public as the Japan University Network Earthquake Catalog. The hypocentral coordinates and orgin times listed in the catalog are redetermined by EPDC using the arrival time data of the revised database. Although, the minimun magnitude of the earthquakes listed in the catalog is 2.0, the earthquakes listed in the catalog covers the microearthquake activities in Japan. In the present paper, we discuss the hypocenter determination procedure of the catalog and also the characteristics of the hypocenters listed in the catalog.

We review recent theoretical studies on wave propagation in the near field of seismic sources. These include theories for horizontally layered media as well as those for irregularly layered media. Ray theory and its extensions are easily applied to arbitrarily inhomogeneous media, but they include serious approximations. The finite difference method is also flexible, but requires extensive computation. Except for these methods, we should note that all the methods currently available for irregularly layered media belong to the category of the method of weighted residuals.

Seismic intensity at Shikine-jima during the earthquake swarm of Izu-Islands in 2000 is usually one or two ranks higher than that at neighbor island, though epicentral distances to these islands are almost similar. In order to investigate the cause of anomalous large seismic intensity, three portable strong motion instruments have been installed at the island.The spectral ratios of observed S waveforms at sedimentary stations at Shikine-jima demonstrate severe site amplification of 2 to 10 within a wide frequency range between 1 to 10Hz relative to rock site. The experiments based on a GA inversion indicate unusual subsurface structure with very low (VS=31-427m/s) and high attenuation (QS=15-148) superficial layer overlying a bedrock (VS=1000m/s, QS=200) with large contrast at the interface is a main cause of high seismic intensities.The influence of nonlinearity was also found near a coast of Shikine-jima when the ground acceleration level exceeds 300cm/s2. The nonlinear ground response yielded a considerable reduction of the ground motions, so that the observed peak accelerations during the severe earthquakes were only about 50% of that predicted by linear ground response.

Some techniques used in statistics, such as the variable change method, the penalty function method and the gradient projection method, are introduced to determine the location of a hypocenter with a definitely non-negative depth. Numerical simulations are carried out to compare the efficiency of them by using synthetic arrival time data for a four-station seismic array. They demonstrate that the penalty function method with a proper weight is the most efficient. However, if we take an improper weight, it may lead to a negative depth or an invalid solution. Since the variable change method and the gradient projection method do not have such arbitrariness, those can be implemented more easily into hypocenter determination processes operated routinely. The demonstration with real arrival time data shows that the variable change method as z=h2 has practical efficiency.

We present a new ‘bending’ formulation of three-dimensional ray tracing in a spherical Earth. This is suitable for computer programming, and we have already corrected some errors in previously published formulations. By using this formulation we calculate a seismic ray traveling in a velocity model for the subduction zone around the Japan islands. The result is compared with those by appoximate ray-tracing methods, such as Ray Initializer, Circular Ray Tracer and Pseudo-Bending. The model includes the Conrad and Moho discontinuities, and the upper boundary of the subducting Pacific plate. To evaluate the effect of the discontinuities we also calculate exact rays for continuous models derived from the Lagrange or spline interpolation of the discontinuous model. The comparison shows that appoximate ray-tracing methods and smoothed continuous models may lead detailed seismic tomography of the subduction zone to a wrong result. In particular, the discontinuities should be taken into calculations to obtain precise trajectories of rays traveling through a subducting slab.

Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) is an anionic surfactant widely used in laundry detergents. The environmental safety of LAS has been extensively reviewed in various chemical safety assessment programs worldwide. In this paper, we report an LAS aquatic environmental risk assessment of Japanese rivers using a high-tier assessment approach. For the exposure assessment, river water monitoring data of more than 400 samples were used to determine predicted environmental concentrations (PECs) which were then verified with the AIST-SHANEL exposure model. For the effect assessment, a statistical extrapolation approach using chronic ecotoxicity data was used. Toxicity data were normalized to the average alkyl chains found in the environment (C11.3) and to that of commercial LAS average alkyl chains in Japan (C11.8). Mesocosm data were also normalized to determine the predicted no-effect concentration (PNEC) in the environment. The 95th percentile PECs for detected concentrations in Japanese rivers were 32 to 45 μg/L, and the PNECs were 270 (C12) to 530 (C11.3) μg/L based on mesocosm data with an assessment factor of 1 and supported by data from the statistical extrapolation approach. The PEC was about 10 times lower than the PNEC. From the result of the risk characterization, it was concluded that the aquatic environmental risk posed by LAS in Japan is low.

不登校やいじめなど, 子どもの学校不適応問題が深刻化し続けている中, 子どもの学校不適応に関する研究や不適応改善のための取り組みが盛んに実施されている。しかし, 学校適応の定義が一貫していないために, 学校適応の測定に用いる指標や介入の効果検証の仕方は研究間で様々である。特に現在注目を集めているのは不適応の予防であり, 効果的な予防介入を実施するためには, 子どもの学校適応の正確かつ妥当なアセスメントが必要になる。本論文では, 先行研究の展望により学校適応の概念をまとめ, 学校適応アセスメントの理論的基盤となる三水準モデルを提唱した。このモデルでは, 水準1として感情や認知を含めた子どもの行動的機能, 水準2として子どもの行動が学校環境の中でどのように強化され形成されるのかという環境の効果に注目した学業的・社会的機能, 水準3として個人の行動と環境との相互作用の結果として生じる子どもの学校適応感という3つの水準から子どもの学校適応状態を把握する。また, これまでに実施されている予防介入の限界と課題から, より効果的な予防介入に必要なアセスメントについて三水準モデルをもとに検討する。

本研究の目的は、スーパーマーケットにおける欠品率を推定することである。中規模食品スーパーにおける実際のデータ (販売データ、コーザルデータなど) を用いて売上予測を行うと同時に、同予測値と在庫データを照合することで、商品レベルの欠品率 (=販売機会ロス) を推定した。なお需要予測の精度を改善するために、正規の線形回帰モデルではなく、売上数量にボアソン分布を想定した対数加法モデル (GAM) の当てはめを用いた。

While reading silently, we process only the visual information of the text. Conversely,while reading texts orally, we process the visually presented text and produce the au-ditory information of the text through articulatory movement. These activities are assumed to facilitate the memory and comprehension of textual information. Although we cannot use such auditory nor motor information while reading silently, there is little difference between the degree of comprehension based on silent and oral reading for adult readers. The purpose of this study is to explain how we compensate the loss of multisensory process during silent reading by comparing the visual processing process during silent and oral reading. In Experiment 1, we measured the eye-movement dur-ing reading garden-path and normal sentences silently and orally. In Experiment 2,we compared the eye-movement during reading more common paragraph silently and orally. The results showed that silent reading took shorter time for comprehension than oral reading, and readers had more visual fixation points and read back frequently dur-ing reading silently than orally. These reading strategies during silent reading seemed to compensate the loss of multisensory process and support the text comprehension.

Objective: Keshan disease is an endemic cardiomyopathy found in Keshan, north-east China. The first patient was identified in 1935. This disease is characterized by a blood circulation disorder, endocardium abnormality and myocardium necrosis. Selenium (Se) deficiency is thought to be a major factor by Chinese scientists. However, the exact etiology has not been clarified up to now. The government decided to apply sodium selenite to growing crops, and the incidence of the disease decreased dramatically. However, a few cases still occur as chronic or latent types. This paper reviews Keshan disease from a historical aspect and also the present situation.Methods: We made a reference survey and summarised the etiology, pathological changes, clinical manifestation, and other views of Keshan disease.Result: So far, epidemiological surveys have shown that Keshan disease occurs in large areas in 14 provinces in China, mainly in the countryside. It has been confirmed by clinical and pathological studies that Keshan disease is an independent endemic myocardial disease caused by biological and geological factors. The largest prevalence age rates are boys under 15 years old and women of childbearing age. There are several hypotheses; acute carbon monoxide poisoning, virus infection, malnutrition, or selenium deficiency. The first is not currently believed to be the cause. The following was pointed out; studies on the relationship between diet and the endemic areas of Keshan disease in 1961, where the food custom of the local residents was relatively simple and a so-called “one-sided diet” (eating a limited variety of food) might be related to the incidence of Keshan disease. In 1973, large-scale investigations on the natural environments were performed in the endemic areas of Keshan disease in the whole country. As a result, it was reported that there was a relationship between the incidence of Keshan disease and the special natural environment in the endemic areas and the cause of Keshan disease was strongly supported by nutritional, biological, geological and chemical (selenium deficiency) factors. In 1981, on the other hand, it was found that the levels of antibodies against Coxsackie virus were higher in the serum of Keshan disease patients than of normal subjects. This fact supposed that the cause of Keshan disease was related to a virus infection. However, it is difficult to explain why the clinical and pathological manifestations of Keshan disease are similar to those of other diseases, e. g. idiopathic dilatational myocardial disease. Further research should be performed on Keshan disease to clarify the etiology.

Alkaline polymer gel electrolytes mainly with modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) have been prepared for an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC). Their electrochemical characteristics were evaluated by impedance spectroscopy and constant-current charge/discharge measurement. The prepared gel electrolyte film with KOH exhibits excellent flexibility and an ionic conductivity of about 7×10−2 S cm−1 at 298 K. The gel electrolyte EDLC shows comparable discharge capacitance to that for EDLC containing a conventional aqueous electrolyte. These results suggest that the gel electrolyte based on the modified PVA is promising material for use in EDLC.

市民や地域住民自らがコミュニティに存在する問題を解決するためには,コミュニティの問題認識を明確化する必要がある.本研究では,コミュニティの中で市民や住民自らが主体的に問題解決を図る仕組みをコミュニティ・ガバナンス,コミュニティ全体の認識を「社会的文脈」と呼ぶ.社会的文脈は,時系列的に遷移するものと考えられる.そこで,近年の自転車交通問題を例として,コミュニティ・ガバナンスにおける社会的文脈の遷移過程を明らかにした.新聞記事テキストの内容分析を行い,ある特定の語と共起する語群より社会的文脈を特定した.さらに共起語の時系列的な変化より,社会的文脈の遷移過程を明らかにした.近年の自転車交通問題では,自転車の放置問題から,道路空間上での自転車走行のあり方へと社会的文脈が遷移したことを示した.

The skeletons of Minatogawa Man, found on Okinawa Island in 1970, have been morphologically reevaluated. The skulls of Minatogawa Man are characterized by a low and wide face with rectangular orbits, a projected glabellar region, a depressed nasal root and deep temporal fossae, which more or less resemble those of the late Pleistocene men from Zhoukoudian Upper Cave and Liujian and early Holocene Jomon people in Japan. In Minatogawa Man, however, the development of these characteristics is very pronounced. In the Minatogawa and Jomon skulls the zygomatic bones protrude anteriorly and the zygomatic arches are thin and flared, which are different from the features of the Upper Cave and Liujian men. Besides the skulls, the Minatogawa postcranial bones stand apart from those of the Zhoukoudian Upper Cave, Liujian, Jomon Japanese, and are close to Zhoukoudian Homo erectus, in some characteristics. Therefore, Minatogawa Man should be assigned to the oldest type of Mongoloids or modern Homo sapiens in East Asia. We infer that he might be a direct ancestor of Jomon people, but not an ancestor of the Upper Cave and Liujian men.

Immunoglobulin (Ig) A nephropathy is a prevalent form of primary glomerulonephritis, which leads to end-stage renal failure in a significant proportion of patients. Immunotherapy, including steroid use, is widely used to induce disease remission; however, it can cause serious side effects. We herein report 3 cases of progressive IgA nephropathy and their successful treatment with a combination of aspirin and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) without the use of steroids. The precise mechanism responsible for the combination therapy is still unknown; however, aspirin may potentiate the production of anti-inflammatory lipid mediators derived from EPA. Further clinical trials are required to substantiate this treatment regimen.
