The purpose of this article is to describe the journalistic practice and business strategy of the Joyo Shimbun, a local paper distributed in 15 municipalities in the southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture. It is based on the authors' interviews with its president and a Joyo Shimbun journalist. Some findings are as follows:1) There were differences of opinion among the staff on what sort of news the paper should focus on: conventional mainstream journalism or local journalism, which some regarded as important because of the effect it could have on the local community.2) Not full-time professional journalists, but part-time reporters were the primary contributors to a report on a local referendum in Tsukuba-shi.3) Journalistic quality was maintained by journalists who were professionals with experience in conventional journalism and who were sympathetic toward public journalism.4) Local Journalism is now a key concept, not only for journalism practices but also for newspapers' business strategy.The purpose of this article is to describe the journalistic practice and business strategy of the Joyo Shimbun, a local paper distributed in 15 municipalities in the southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture. A series of experiments was conducted to explore sources of difficulties in manipulating daily electronic appliances. In realizing users' goals, these appliances require users to decompose their goals to a set of subtasks in a specific way. We hypothesize that users who have extreme difficulties do not decompose the task or that their decompositions are different from the one that designers assume. To test this hypothesis, we compared the performance of those who had been taught the general idea of task decompsition with that of the control group, using a copy machine. The results of the two experiments showed that the trained group achieved the tasks faster with fewer errors than the control group. The experiment 3 examined this task decomposition hypothesis, using a refined copier that visualized the idea of task decompostion. The results showed that the refined copier reduced errors at the early stages of learning. These results strongly support the idea that users' difficulties lie mainly in the task decomposition.

ベーキングパウダーを使用した菓子・パン類,ミョウバンを使用した食品として野菜加工食品,海産物などを中心とした105試料について,食品中のアルミニウム(Al)含有量調査を行った.菓子・パン類は57試料中26試料で0.01~0.37 mg/g,小麦粉調製品は6試料中3試料で0.22~0.57 mg/g,野菜加工食品は3試料すべてで0.01~0.05 mg/g,海産物は6試料中4試料で0.03~0.90 mg/g,即席めんは11試料中3試料で0.01~0.03 mg/g,春雨は4試料中3試料で0.04~0.14 mg/g,大豆は不検出,大豆加工食品は16試料中1試料で0.01 mg/gのAlが検出された(定量限界0.01 mg/g).週一度摂取すると体重16 kgの幼児のPTWIに相当するものが,菓子類2試料,小麦粉調製品2試料,くらげ1試料の5試料あった.以上の結果から,子供,特に幼児では製品や喫食量により,PTWIを超過する可能性があることが示唆された.

第一部研究論文・実践報告<研究論文>本稿では、良心館ラーニング・コモンズで展開しているセミナーが正課科目に活用された事例を元に、その成果と課題を検討した。その上で、正課教育と学習支援との連携のあり方について展望を述べた。結論として、それらの連携から最終的に学生の自主的な学習にどのように結び付けていくのかを考える必要があること等、得られた知見を論じた。

The concentrations of medically used radionuclides in activated sludge samples were measured for 10 waste water treatment plants (WWTP) in Tokyo from October 1983 to March 1994. The nuclides 99mTc, 67Ga, 111In 123I 131I and 201Tl, among others, could be detected, but these concentration levels were lower than the legal concentration limits in Japan. The excess activated sludge is usually incinerated at WWTP; then the resulting ash is transported for reclamation in Tokyo Bay. Internal and/or external exposure doses were evaluated for the following cases: (1) The dose of the public attributed to radioactive iodine and 201Tl, which were released from the incinerator by burning sludge; (2) The dose of the workers during the process of transport and reclamation of the ash. As a result, the effective doses were sufficiently lower than the dose limit 1mSv/y. The decay of the radionuclides were calculated over a period of curing of the landfill. It was found that the radionuclides had decayed out to approximately one nuclide. The effective dose of the public can therefore be ignored. Moreover, it was clarified that the effective dose of the public resulting from 99Tc is negligibly low in value at the present time.

Although, mushrooms have low nutritional value and are not easily digested, it is desirable to include them in the diet since they are rich in dietary fiber and vitamin D. This study evaluates the awareness of dietary habit and nutritional value among students studying nutrition and their families, with the objective of increasing the consumption of mushrooms and improving healthful dietary habits. Sixty percent of both the students and their families reported that they liked mushrooms, the orders of preference being shiitake, bunashimeji, maitake, and winter mushrooms (enokitake). Seventy percent of the students and their families ate mushrooms at least once a week. Tempura cooking style was least preferred the students. Both the students and their families value freshness and price when buying mushrooms, and purchase mushrooms because of their good taste. They also perceive mushrooms as being expensive.

福島第一原子力発電所事故により,福島県内は放射性物質による汚染が心配されている。福島高校スーパーサイエンス部では,高校生の外部被ばくに注目し,昨年6月福島県内外で個人線量調査を実施した。この結果から,福島県内の高校生の個人線量が特異的に高いわけではないことがわかった。
