本研究では, 空港旅客ターミナルの窓口施設に注目し, 旅客流動シミュレーションを用いて窓口施設を最適化する方法を提示した. この手法により, 最適な窓口数が時間帯ごとに算定されるとともに, 窓口数に応じて最適なフロア面積が算出される. 旅客流動シミュレーションにおいては, 既存空港での観測から得られた利用施設選択率などに基づいて旅客流動を再現し, 待ち行列シミュレーションによって旅客の滞留現象を表現した. 既存空港のチェックインカウンターとセキュリティチェックに, この手法を適用した結果, 旅客流動の再現性が確認されるとともに, 計算対象日の各窓口施設の利用実態に即した, 適正な施設規模が算出されることが示された.

福島県の放射線汚染地域に生息しているアカネズミの放射線影響評価を行なうことを目的として、個体群調査、染色体異常の頻度、個体被ばく線量を調査した。福島県の警戒区域内において福島第一原子力発電所事故発生時期に出生した個体が少ないという結果を得たが、新生個体も確認されているため、放射線汚染地域のアカネズミ個体数は回復していると考えられる。また、放射線被ばくによる生存個体の成長遅滞は認められなかった。染色体解析では、放射線に特異的な染色体異常は認められず、放射線汚染地域および対照地域との間で有意な差は検出されなかった。アカネズミの個体被ばく線量は、環境中よりも吸収線量が下回っていることを明らかにした。

Persistent severe rainfall (PSR) events during the rainy season (April to July) in southern China were studied in terms of the dynamic features of the large-scale circulation. The aim of the study was to understand the formation mechanism and improve forecasting. The circulation field and spatiotemporal distribution of waves at 500 hPa for different types of PSR were analyzed. The results reveal the following: (1) During the pre-flood season (April to June) in southern China, troughs have the same phase in the middle latitudes as those in the high latitudes. The East Asia major trough (3–5 wave numbers) in the middle latitudes strengthens southwards and interacts with the 30°N subtropical high (1–2 wave numbers) from three days prior to the PSR events. (2) During the post-flood season (June to July) in South China, the weather regime transitions occur on five days prior to the PSR events. The 40°N trough (2–4 wave numbers) strengthens southwards and interacts with the subtropical high (1–2 wave numbers). It is also affected by the blocking ridge (3 wave number) in the high latitudes. (3) During the Mei-yu period (June to July) over the Yangtze–Huaihe River basin, the transitions of circulation pattern start three days prior to the PSR events. With the northwest development of the subtropical high, there is a transfer process from long to short waves in terms of energy for the trough at 50°N.

北海道の北東部に位置する国後島において,北海道に広く分布する樹上性の3種の小型哺乳類(タイリクモモンガPteromys volans,ヒメネズミApodemus argenteus,キタリスSciurus vulgaris)の分布調査を行った。タイリクモモンガおよびヒメネズミの生息を確認するため,国後島の南部に位置する寒帯性の針広混交天然林に30個の木製巣箱を2年間(2013年7月〜2015年8月)設置した。加えて,2012年7月には,キタリスを目撃した経験の有無について30名の島民を対象にアンケート調査を実施した。巣箱調査の結果,タイリクモモンガおよびヒメネズミの個体或は巣材等の痕跡は一切観察されず,また,アンケート調査の結果でもキタリスを目撃したことがある島民はいなかった。国後島におけるこれら3種の分布記録はこれまでも無かったが,本島でこれまでに用いられたことのない巣箱調査法によってもタイリクモモンガ・ヒメネズミが確認できなかったことから,本島には樹上性小型哺乳類が生息しないことが改めて示唆された。更新世氷期に生じたと考えられる国後島内の森林の縮小は,これら3種を含む森林性哺乳類にとって生息の可否を決定づける重要な環境変化であり,森林の縮小に伴い森林環境によく適応した哺乳類種は絶滅したのかもしれない。

Maintenance and improvement of masticatory function in nursing care elderly persons (NC) is an important issue, and it is speculated that sarcopenia is related to declining masticatory function. The decrease in skeletal muscle index(SMI), a major diagnostic criterion for sarcopenia, has been reported to be associated with swallowing function in NC.However, the relationship between SMI and masticatory function is unknown. Therefore,we investigated the relationship between masseter muscle thickness(MMT)and SMI, with the aim of examining the specific relationship between decreased masticatory function and sarcopenia in NC. MMT and SMI were measured by ultrasonography and bioelectrical impedance analysis in 275 NC participants in Omori Town, Yokote City, Akita Prefecture in the Tohoku region in Japan. Cognitive functions measured from all participants using questionnaire. Participants were classified into low-MMT or high-MMT group based on the median of each of MMT, and SMI and related items in each gender. In addition, to examine the factors related to MMT, logistic regression analysis was conducted by entering age,sex, SMI, nutrition status, severity of dementia, and other items as explanatory variables and MMT as objective variable. SMI in high-MMT group were significantly higher than low-MMT group(high-MMT: 4.8±1.4 kg/m2, low-MMT: 4.4±1.4 kg/m2, P=0.010).Furthermore, logistic regression analysis indicated that SMI were significantly associated with a MMT(Odds Ratio=0.83, 95% Confidence Interval=0.69-0.99, P=0.049). Our result suggested that the mass of the masseter muscles decreased with NC due to sarcopenia, possibly contributing to a decrease in masticatory function.

Background:Valve calcification is well estimated by ex-vivo micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). The objective of this study was to investigate the associations between micro-CT findings and biological indices of calcification in aortic stenosis (AS), as well as differences between bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) and tricuspid aortic valve (TAV).Methods and Results:Aortic valves and plasma were obtained from patients undergoing valve surgery. Valves were dissected and underwent micro-CT, genetic analyses, and calcium content assessment. Plasma levels of calcification markers were measured. Forty-two patients with isolated severe AS, including 22 with BAV, were studied. BAV patients had a lower median CT value (140.0 [130.0–152.0] vs. 157.0 [147.0–176.0], P=0.002) and high-density calcification (HDC) fraction (9.3 [5.7–23.3] % vs. 21.3 [14.3–31.2] %, P=0.01), as compared with TAV. Calcification fraction (CF) correlated with AS severity (measured as maximal transvalvular pressure gradient [r=0.34, P=0.03], maximal flow velocity [r=0.38, P=0.02], and indexed aortic valve area [r=–0.37, P=0.02]). For TAV patients only, mRNA expression of integrin-binding sialoprotein correlated with CF (r=0.45, P=0.048), and the receptor activator of the nuclear factor κ-B ligand transcript correlated with HDC corrugation (r=0.54, P=0.01).Conclusions:TAV patients with AS present more mineralized calcifications in micro-CT than BAV subjects. The relative volume of calcifications increases with the AS severity. In TAV patients, upregulated expression of genes involved in osteoblastogenesis in AS correlates with leaflet mineralization in micro-CT.
