A case of BCG-related lymphadenitis is presented. After BCG vaccination, an enlarging mass was noted in the left axillary region of a 1-year-old boy. Imprint smear cytology of the extirpated lesion revealed aggregates of epithelioid and tingible-type histiocytic cells without a necrotic background. Histologically, the lesion showed granulomatous nodules composed of epithelioid histiocytic cells and Langhans' giant cells without associated caseous necrosis. Immunohistochemically, the epithelioid histiocytic cells were positive for and-BCG antibody, lysozyme and CD 68. It is necessary to distinguish this BCG-related lymphadenitis from tuberculous lymphadenitis.

新型コロナウイルス感染症,いわゆるCOVID-19の感染拡大は,土木計画学分野の研究者が研究対象としてきた都市活動,交通行動,経済・産業活動に対して大きな影響をもたらした.ついては本特集は,土木計画学研究委員会が主催し2020年8月8日に開催した「COVID-19に関する土木計画学研究発表セミナー」での発表論文を中心として,COVID-19の感染拡大に伴うそれらの諸行動,諸活動,ならびに諸対策にまつわる各種の土木計画学研究を掲載するものである.

紅茶エキスによるうがいが, インフルエンザを予防できるかどうかを検討した.実験は, 平成4年10月18日から平成5年3月17日までの5カ月間行なった.まず同一職域集団297人を2群に分け, 実験群151人は, 原則として8時と17時の2回, 1回約100ml程度の紅茶エキス (0.5W/V%) でうがいをした.対照群146人は, 特に何も行なわなかった.実験期間中にインフルエンザ症状を呈した者56人の咽頭ぬぐい液からウイルスを分離し抗原分析をした結果, A型ウイルスH3N2が2株およびB型ウイルス10株が分離された.感染の判定は, 実験開始時および終了時に採血を行い, A/Yamagata/120/86 (HIN1), A/Saitama/55/93 (H3N2), B/Saitama/5/93と赤血球凝集抑制反応を行ない, 抗体価が4倍以上上昇したものを感染とみなした.その結果, 感染者は実験群35.1%に対して対照群では48.8%で, 有意な差 (p<0.05) が認められた.この結果, 紅茶エキスによるうがいは, インフルエンザを阻止しうる可能性が示唆された.

Tropical cyclone (TC) intensity forecasts issued by the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre (RSMC) Tokyo - Typhoon Center are systematically compiled to analyze the long-term behavior of errors and to explore the potential for improvement in the forecast accuracy using a statistical correction approach. In this study, a dataset is constructed from annual statistics and every single forecast listed on annual reports on the activities of the RSMC Tokyo. This study found that (1) the accuracy of annual mean forecast has not improved over 26 years and that (2) forecast errors tend to be larger in the rapidly developing TCs. Further analysis reveals that recent forecast output (2008-2014) contains biases associated with the magnitude of the vertical shear of horizontal wind, convective available potential energy, upper ocean temperature, maximum potential intensity (MPI) and ocean coupling potential intensity (OC_PI). To evaluate the adverse effect of such biases in the current forecast system, a simple statistical correction is applied. It improved TC intensity forecast by 7.8-16.9% when an OC_PI is employed.

Based on observations, the number of tropical cyclones (TCs) approaching the southern coast of Japan, including Tokyo, has increased over the last 40 years, and these TCs are increasing in strength when they approach land. The environmental conditions for TC development have become more favorable, with warmer sea surface temperature, less vertical wind shear and more moisture in the atmosphere. In addition, the translation speed of TCs has decreased, which indicates a longer influence time. Comparison of the synoptic environment during July–October between the first (1980-1999, P1) and second (2000-2019, P2) 20 years shows that the sub-tropical high is strengthened in P2, where the western and northern edge of the high extends further the west and the north, respectively. Also, the westerly jet is weakened in P2 over and south of Japan in the middle to upper troposphere. These changes in the synoptic environment are considered to play a role in increasing the number of TCs approaching Tokyo and also in producing more favorable conditions for TC development. The relationship between the changes in TC characteristics over the last 40 years and global warming is unclear. As the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) is in a positive phase in P1 and a negative phase in many years of the P2 period, decadal oscillations may have played some role in the increase in the number of approaching TCs and in the changes in the synoptic environment.

The purpose of this study was to examine muscle activities during seven traditional different free dynamic exercises designed to strengthen the abdominal muscles. Eleven adult men with experience in weight training were asked to perform three repetitions of LSU, BSU, TSU, TC, RSU, LR and SLR. Activities of the upper rectus abdominis (URA), lower rectus abdominis (LRA), external abdominal oblique (EAO), and rectus femoris (RF) during the hip flexion and hip extension phases of each exercise were examined by electromyography (EMG) and analyzed using root mean square (RMS) values. The following results were obtained: (1) The mean RMS values for the URA were larger during the RSU and SLR than during the other five exercises. The value for the same muscle was larger during the TC exercise than during the LSU, BSU, TSU, and LR exercises. The mean RMS value for the LRA was largest during the RSU exercise, while that during the SLR exercise was larger than those during the LSU, BSU, TSU, TC, and LR exercises. (2) The mean RMS value for the EAO was largest during the SLR exercise, while that during the RSU exercise was second-largest and that during the TSU exercise was third-largest. The mean RMS values for the RF were larger during the RSU and SLR than during the other five exercises. The smallest value for this muscle was recorded during the TC exercise. (3) In most of the exercises, RMS in the hip flexion phase was larger than in the hip extension phase, and each muscle exhibited a knee flexion phase/knee extension phase ratio of between 0.5 and 0.8. However, the ratio for EAO and RF exceeded this range. (4) The muscle activity for the RF muscle in the RSU and SLR exercises was large, implying excessive stress for the lumbar vertebrae. Nevertheless, these exercises induced active muscle activity, and appeared desirable to perform with sufficient attention to safety.These results suggest that RSU and SLR exercises are the most effective movements for stimulating the URA, LRA and EAO. Moreover, TC is an effective movement for training the URA, and TSU is an effective movement for training.

ユーザの発するオノマトペには 「何かを表現したいがうまく言語化して表現できないモヤモヤとした印象」 が込められていると言われている.すなわち,オノマトペを入力として扱えるシステムを開発することは,そのようなモヤモヤとした意図を直接的に扱えるため,ユーザの認知的な負担の軽減につながると考えられる.そこで,本研究ではこのようなシステムの構築に向けて,オノマトペの印象を客観的手法に基づき数値化する方法を提案することとした.具体的には,ユーザに対する質問し調査の結果をもとに,オノマトペを構成する音の印象を表現する属性の抽出と属性値の設定,およびその属性値を組み合わせることでオノマトペの印象を表現する方法を提案した.
