[Purpose] This study was aimed at investigating the preliminary therapeutic efficacy and usefulness of canoe game-based virtual reality training for stroke patients. [Subjects and Methods] Ten stroke patients were randomly assigned to an experimental group (EG; n=5) or a control group (CG; n=5). Patients in both groups participated in a conventional rehabilitation program, but those in the EG additionally participated in a 30-min canoe game-based virtual reality training program 3 days a week for 4 weeks. Therapeutic efficacy was assessed based on trunk postural stability, balance, and upper limb motor function. In addition, the usefulness of canoe game-based virtual reality training was assessed in the EG and therapist group (TG; n=20), which consisted of physical and occupational therapists, by using the System Usability Scale (SUS). [Results] Improvements in trunk postural stability, balance, and upper limb motor function were observed in the EG and CG, but were greater in the EG. The mean SUS scores in the EG and TG were 71 ± 5.2 and 74.2 ± 4.8, respectively. [Conclusion] Canoe game-based virtual reality training is an acceptable and effective intervention for improving trunk postural stability, balance, and upper limb motor function in stroke patients.

Numerous epidemiological surveys have shown that consuming coffee can prevent cancer development. Caffeine and chlorogenic acid are the most well known constituents which are included in coffee and prove to have an positive effect to prevent cancer. Although these constituents are known to directly act on anti cancer machineries, such as anti-oxidant effect. There are also studies showing that benefit of functional food is exhibited by metabolic changes. Therefore, we may anticipate that changing metabolic pathways may occur during coffee intake and further expect lowering the cancer risk. Thus, in this study, we analyzed the effect of administration of coffee to Eker rat which are a renal cancer and a metabolic syndrome model rat. By giving 1% coffee for 100 days, we found that renal cancer development was suppressed. We further analyzed the metabolic change by metabolomic analysis in liver and observed that the abnormal carbohydrate and ketone body production in Eker rats were restored by coffee consumption. We also confirmed that these effects were not due to the recovery of tumor suppression gene TSC2 expression. Thus, coffee may have a anti-cancer effect by changing the metabolic pathway and lower the risk factors which may lead to cancer development.

日本看護協会が実施したワーク・ライフ・バランスワークショップ事業報告書から,平成22-24年度に新規参加した施設の課題解決に向けた取り組みをKH Coderにより内容分析した。32都道府県236施設の課題解決に向けた取り組みは,4,648のキーワードに抽出でき,それを22の課題設定に分類した。課題設定は,〈WLB基礎部分〉〈WLBの取り組み〉〈取り組み方法〉〈成果を視野に入れた取り組み〉の4つのカテゴリーに分類した。今後4ヶ月のカテゴリー割合では,〈取り組み方法〉がどの年度も35%以上を占めていた。それに対し,今後1年間・今後3年間では〈取り組み方法〉が減少し,〈WLB基礎部分〉〈WLBの取り組み〉が60%以上に増加し,WLB本来の取り組みに移行していた。このことから,ワークショップでの支援は有効であったと考える。課題設定間の関係性では,「やりがい向上」が他の課題設定に強く結びつき,今後の推進に必要な取り組みであることが示唆された。

Kisspeptin, encoded by KISS1/Kiss1 gene, is now considered a master regulator of reproductive functions in mammals owing to its involvement in the direct activation of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons after binding to its cognate receptor, GPR54. Ever since the discovery of kisspeptin, intensive studies on hypothalamic expression of KISS1/Kiss1 and on physiological roles of hypothalamic kisspeptin neurons have provided clues as to how the brain controls sexual maturation at the onset of puberty and subsequent reproductive performance in mammals. Additionally, emerging evidence indicates the potential involvement of extra-hypothalamic kisspeptin in reproductive functions. Here, we summarize data regarding kisspeptin inside and outside the hypothalamus and revisit the physiological roles of central and peripheral kisspeptins in the reproductive functions of mammals.

In order to rationalize the safety margin of pressurized components subject to local metal loss, we applied a probabilistic reliability method. The modeling of the local metal loss is based on API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 and we investigated the safety margin for the pressure equipment subjected to local metal loss utilizing the actual corrosion rate data. Probabilities of failure of both shallow metal loss and deep metal loss were calculated. These results showed the relation between time until next inspection and probability of failure was cleared. We also analyzed the sensitivity of an assessment curve based on the reliability index for local metal loss. The reliability-based assessment curve was available regardless of COV of the shape of metal loss.

本研究では,幅・奥行きの異なる自律全方位移動ロボットのサイズを考慮し,並進運動と回転運動を同時に制御可能なファジィポテンシャル法に基づく障害物回避アルゴリズムを提案する.ロボット形状を考慮し,環境に応じて回転速度を決定することにより,効率的な移動および回避が可能となる.横幅のある自律全方位移動ロボットを対象としたシミュレーションによりその有効性を検証する.

As described in the previous chapters, experiments following the introduction of the London theory revealed a few serious problems which could not be explained by the theory. Examples are transition to the normal state when the magnetic field is applied parallel to the surface of a superconducting film and the dependence of the penetration depth on the addition of impurities. The latter problem was resolved by Pippard through the introduction of the coherence length as described in the previous chapter. A serious problem which remained unresolved was the surface energy at the boundary of the superconducting and normal phases in the intermediate state of Type 1 superconductors. The stability of the intermediate state observed in experiments requires the boundary energy to be positive, which can not be explained by the London theory. In the next few chapters, the phenomological theory by Ginzburg and Landau, which not only resolved these problems but also led to the prediction of Type 2 superconductors, will be described.

We examined the 20-years records of female transfer of wild bonobos at Wamba, D. R. Congo. Most females left their natal group between 6 and 9 years old, and immigrated into new groups between 10 and 12 years. Females seemed to travel several groups before settling in a new group. After settling down, they start reproduction and will not transfer to other groups for the rest of their life. We examined average of coefficient of consanguinity of males with whom females may copulate in new groups. The probability of inbreeding drastically decreases when a female transfers groups, and it decreases according to the amount of intergroup travel. Differences in female transfer pattern between bonobos and chimpanzees seem to be due to the differences in the risks of traveling alone, such as predators, social relationships between females, and high social status of females. The balance between cost and benefit of intergroup transfer may determine philopatric social structure in chimpanzees and bonobos.

甲状腺未分化癌は極めて予後不良な疾患であり,確立した治療法は今のところ存在しない。われわれは2006年からドキソルビシン(DXR)とシスプラチン(CDDP)を使用する化学療法にバルプロ酸を併用する方法を試行しており,手術と放射線治療を加えた集学的治療によって予後の改善に努めている。その結果として,手術から2年以上経過しても無再発生存している症例を3例経験したのでここに報告する。

本研究は、樹脂に充填するフィラーに着目し、生活者に製品の長期使用を促すプラスチック材料を開発することを最終目的としている。本報では熱可塑性樹脂であるポリプロピレンと熱硬化性樹脂である不飽和ポリエステル樹脂を用いて、これらの樹脂中に複数種類のフィラーを混入することを試みた。フィラーの大きさによって異なる混入方法を使い、サンプルを作製した。作製したサンプルの印象や質感を、被験者を用いた印象評価実現により検討した。これにより、サンプルの質感に対する評価構造とサンプルの特徴が明らかとなった。フィラーの種類を変えるだけでなく、サンプルの研磨やフィラーの表面処理によっても、その印象を大きく変化させられることが確認できた。
