Particular batches of Moderna mRNA Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine were recalled after foreign particles were found in some vaccine vials at the vaccination site in Japan in August 2021. We investigated the foreign particles at the request of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis suggested that the foreign particles found in the vials recalled from the vaccination sites were from stainless steel SUS 316L, which was in line with the findings of the root cause investigation by the manufacturer. The sizes of the observed particles ranged from <50 μm to 548 μm in the major axis. Similar foreign particles were also detected in 2 of the 5 vaccine vials of the same lot stored by the manufacturer, indicating that the foreign particles have already been administered to some people via vaccine. Observation of the vials of the same lot by digital microscope found smaller particles those were not detected by visual inspection, suggesting that more vials were affected. Contrarily, visual inspection and subvisible particulate matter test indicated no foreign particles in the vials of normal lots. Possible root cause and strategies to prevent such a deviation were discussed from technical and regulatory aspects.

Several Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance issues and their associated quality problems that have been revealed since 2020 have led to large-scale recalls and supply suspensions of drug products in Japan. This paper provides an overview of the causes and countermeasures for supply disruptions of low-molecular-weight chemical pharmaceutical agents, focusing on quality-related issues. A recent increase in the use of generic drugs emphasized the importance of strengthening active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) supply chains and ensuring GMP compliance among drug manufacturers. In addition, increasing recalls in the drug products of certain marketing authorization holders due to storage stability problems strongly suggests the need to improve their development process considerably. Other measures to stabilize the supply of pharmaceuticals, including increasing stockpiles of APIs, were also discussed.

中国に残された文献史料によると、嘉靖36(1557)年に日本の戦国大名大友義鎮が浙江省に派遣した貿易船が、舟山島の岑港で沈没した。「巨舟」と記されたその船は、当該期東シナ海域を往来する船のなかで最大級の大型構造船であった。本研究の現地調査において、沈没船の時代に関わる考古遺物を確認できたとともに、船の母港の都市空間構造を明らかにすることができた。また、共通の意識を有する中国の研究者との連携体制を構築するとともに、国際学会を通じて研究成果を世界的に発信することができた。

本稿では、COVID-19 (新型コロナウイルス感染症) の世界的・全国的拡大による学校教育への影響をふまえた、地域学習 (郷土学習) の在り方を検討する。2020年7月19日に、「新型コロナウイルス感染症 (COVID-19) とESD地域学習―『Withコロナ』の経験を共有し『Postコロナ』に活かそう―」をテーマに、Zoomを用いたオンラインシンポジウムを企画実施した。本稿ではまず、このシンポジウムの開催経緯と内容、実践報告を示す。そのうえで、シンポジウム内でおこなわれた議論および開催後の参加者アンケートをもとに、COVID-19の流行の経験をふまえた今後の地域学習の在り方を検討する。結果は3つに大別できる。第一に、地域をめぐるフィールドワークは、地域のリアルな状況を把握するうえで重要であり、関係者の理解を得たうえで積極的に実施する必要がある。第二に、オンライン環境の活用可能性が増していることは地域学習にとって好機になる。第三に、学びの対象としてのコロナ禍が加わった。ローカルな地域の様々な要素とグローバルな要素がリンクしていること、社会構造や政治が私たちの行く末を大きく左右することが実感できる。以上を組み合わせることで、地域学習を通じて、学習者は持続可能な社会の構築を自分事にできる可能性がある。

市場は自発的な交換の場として発達する。市場が効率的なのは,取引に参加する当事者双方の効用が増加する点にある。一方,政府は強制を加えて税を徴収する。税収を超えた政府支出がおこなわれた状態は,税負担を承諾していない者に税の負担を強制している状態であり,略奪がおこなわれている。アメリカ合衆国第30代大統領カルビン・クーリッジの指摘した「必要以上の税を集めるのは合法的強盗である」という状態である。市場での取引と納税者からの承諾の得られない課税が存在する経済では税率は,50%を超えてはならない。生産・交換・課税から生じる効用はマイナスとなる。生産者にとって生産は苦痛となり,生産を放棄する。税率が50%から25%の間であれば,税率を下げる減税は効用を増加する効果がある。税率40%のとき税率を1%下げると,その効用は4%増加する。税率30%のとき税率を1%下げると,効用は1.5%増加する。税率25%のとき税率を1%下げると,効用が1.0%増加する。平成19年度の国民負担率は39.7%,将来の税金を増やさないために財政赤字分も含める潜在的な国民負担率となると43.7%。減税することで経済は活性化する。国民は富み,そして税収は増加する。税を扱う能力のない行政責任者は,税を無駄に使うだけでなく社会の経済活動を阻害する。主権者は,能力のない行政責任者を止めさせることで政府の略奪を止めることができる。選挙で選ぶ行政責任者の財政運営能力を「将来の税金」という会計情報として提供することで,主権者は合理的な決定が可能となる。

A 13-month-old female Newfoundland dog suffered from urinary bladder tumor. Histologically the tumor consisted of round or fusiform cells, occasionally having eosinophilic cytoplasms. Apparent mature rhabdomyoblasts possessing elongated eosinophilic cytoplasm and cross striations were infrequently observed. The tumor cells exhibited immuno-positive for anti-myoglobin, desmin and vimentin antibodies. Ultrastructurally, tumor cells have abundant myofibrils in their cytoplasm and Z bands were also detected. The present tumor was diagnosed as a urinary bladder rhabdomyosarcoma in a Newfoundland dog, which has not been frequently reported in dogs.

During their clinical clerkships (CCs) in surgery, medical students are generally introduced to such areas as surgical indications, surgical techniques, and perioperative management through rounds and practical skills training on wards and in operating rooms. Given the technological advances made in virtual reality (VR) over recent years and its increasing use in education and corporate training, we decided to try using VR for the benefit of students on surgical CCs. To this end, we developed what we termed a "VR surgery tour" in the field of gastrointestinal surgery, which involved students using VR goggles to view edited 3D images. We then asked 26 fifth- and sixth-year medical students at Nippon Medical School assigned to CCs in gastrointestinal surgery between November 2020 and September 2021 to evaluate the VR surgery tour via a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire included questions using a five-point Likert scale and space for free comments. Our results showed that all respondents felt satisfied with the VR surgery tour, with 96% of them indicating it was a viable alternative to clinical training; moreover, about 90% of the students found it useful as a teaching aid for pre-learning and requested that VR teaching materials be made available in other fields as well. We concluded that our VR surgery tour is a valuable supplement to practical training in gastrointestinal surgery and that it increases medical students' motivation to learn. We believe VR is an effective teaching aid and that there will be increasing demand for its use in various education and training programs.

近年,フレイル,サルコペニアが癌の治療成績に影響するという報告が多く見られる.身体的フレイルの重要な要因がサルコペニアであり,慢性炎症が原因となる.慢性炎症にはDAMPs(Damage‐Associated Molecular Patterns)が関与しており,circulating cell‐free DNA(ccfDNA)もDAMPsの一種であると考えられている.われわれは,ccfDNAの断片化の程度を測定し,周術期サルコペニア,ccfDNAと癌の治療成績の関連を検討した.術後半年後に撮影した腹部CT検査でPMI(Psoas Muscle Index)を測定したところ術後合併症を発症した群ではPMIが低値で,無再発生存期間が不良であった.また,術前にccfDNA LF(Long Fragment)を認めた症例では無再発生存期間が不良であった.術後合併症を発症しないことが重要であり,そのためにはサルコペニア,慢性炎症への対策が非常に重要であると考えられる.

本研究は5名の研究代表者、分担者を中心とした研究会を複数回開催するとともに、大規模な公開研究集会を年に一回開催し、その成果をや報告書にまとめ、webで幅広く公開することによって、一般からもその成果に対する広い関心を集めることができた。また2016年の国際美学会、2017年の国際記号学会においてはラウンドテーブルを組織して、海外の研究者との議論を深めることができた。これらの研究活動によって新しい理論的な枠組の構築に結びつけることができた。本研究はポピュラー文化に関する美学的アプローチの最先端の成果を挙げることができた。

奈良教育大学附属中学校ではESDの理念を軸に「総合的な学習の時間」を学びの系統性の中に位置づけて学校づくりを行っている。本稿では、コロナ禍のなか、10月に実施した地域フィールドワーク「奈良めぐり」で得た知見を紹介する。多様性・多文化共生を学ぶコースでは、ゲストティーチャーとの対話(ひととの出会い)を通して、外国人問題や障害者に対する視点の変化、さまざまな生き方に触れた。できないと嘆く前に「たくましく、できることを探し、一歩踏み出す人々」との出会いを契機に、まとめを経て「自分ごと化」していく生徒の変容を分析する。
