国営昭和記念公園みどりの文化ゾーンの「花みどり文化センター」の屋上庭園「浮游の庭」において,環境負荷低減効果として特殊空間緑化による温熱環境改善効果,および雨水流出遅延効果を解析した。その結果,2007年夏で最も暑い8月16目(最高気温37.6℃)では「浮游の庭」における潜熱フラックスは一日で9.7MJ/m^2あることが明らかとなり,温熱環境改善効果が検証された。またドレーンからの排水量,降水量等の計測結果から,雨水貯留および遅延について効果があること,年間の流出係数は0.76であることが明らかとなった。

昭和36年3月,鳴き竜で有名な日光東照宮の本地堂は火災のため焼失した.その後この重要文化財を復元する計画が進み,栃木県当局からの依頼により"鳴き竜"復元のために1/4の模型を製作して調査研究を行ない,元どおり復元できる見通しがえられた.

焼酎蒸留残渣を利用して醸造酢を製造する場合,クエン酸耐性を有する酢酸菌を用いて,添加エタノール濃度5%(v/v)の条件で好気培養を行えば,焼酎蒸留残渣の固形分の有無,滅菌の有無,従来法あるいは返し仕込みで副生する焼酎蒸留残渣の種類に関係なく,容易に酢酸発酵が行えることを明らかにした.さらに,流加培養を行うことにより,回分培養と比較してより高い酢酸生成収率が得られた.製造した醸造酢は市販の黒酢と同様の優れた抗ラジカル活性およびACE阻害活性を示し,それらの活性は焼酎蒸留残渣由来の物質によることがわかった.このように,焼酎蒸留残渣から機能性を有する醸造酢を製造することができた.

本研究では、全国の有権者から無作為抽出した対象者(サンプル)に対し、ノート・パソコンを用いた世論調査(CASI方式)を日本で初めて実施した。さらに、ノート・パソコンによるCASI調査に、認知心理学的視点を加えた政治経済学実験の要素を組み込み、実験を導入した世界初のCASI方式全国世論調査に成功した。これにより、政治変動をもたらす日本人の意志決定のメカニズムの解明を可能にし得る新たな研究を踏み出した。

Previous animal studies have shown that transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into spinal cord lesions enhances axonal regeneration and promotes functional recovery. We isolated the MSCs derived from fat, bone marrow, Wharton’s jelly and umbilical cord blood (UCB) positive for MSC markers and negative for hematopoietic cell markers. Their effects on the regeneration of injured canine spinal cords were compared. Spinal cord injury was induced by balloon catheter compression. Dogs with injured spinal cords were treated with only matrigel or matrigel mixed with each type of MSCs. Olby and modified Tarlov scores, immunohistochemistry, ELISA and Western blot analysis were used to evaluate the therapeutic effects. The different MSC groups showed significant improvements in locomotion at 8 weeks after transplantation (P<0.05). This recovery was accompanied by increased numbers of surviving neuron and neurofilament-positive fibers in the lesion site. Compared to the control, the lesion sizes were smaller, and fewer microglia and reactive astrocytes were found in the spinal cord epicenter of all MSC groups. Although there were no significant differences in functional recovery among the MSCs groups, UCB-derived MSCs (UCSCs) induced more nerve regeneration and anti-inflammation activity (P<0.05). Transplanted MSCs survived for 8 weeks and reduced IL-6 and COX-2 levels, which may have promoted neuronal regeneration in the spinal cord. Our data suggest that transplantation of MSCs promotes functional recovery after SCI. Furthermore, application of UCSCs led to more nerve regeneration, neuroprotection and less inflammation compared to other MSCs.

We report neuropathic arthropathy of the shoulder joint caused by syringomyelia and discuss the method of diagnosis and treatment.Three patients were treated and their ages were 41, 52 and 55 years respectively. In case No 1, there was swelling and the rapid destruction of the shoulder joint. Synovectomy was performed, however the ROM decreased markedly. Six months later, a shoulder joint replacement was carried out and a temporaly improvement of ROM was noticed. However it became worse gradually again and after ten years later she can abduct her arm only 40 degrees. In case No. 2, the synovectomy was performed, but the destruction of the joint progressed rapidly and the joint was dislocated anteriorly 6 months later. At present she has poor abduction of 60 degrees. In case No. 3, osteosynthesis was carried out for the humeral shaft fracture 5 years ago, however non-union and neuropathic arthropathy of the shoulder joint were diagnosed 3 years. later. Present ab-duction angle is 30 degrees.All these three cases had characteristics of massive swelling, rapid and progressive destruction of humeral head with slight pain.So far in Japan, 36 cases out of 42 cases of neuropathic arthropathy of the shoulder joint was caused by syringomyelia. However, the results of these cases were not satisfactory, even after performing synovectomy, prosthesis or arthrodesis because almost all the syringomyelia cases are slow and progressive and leads to the destruction of the joint.

ニホンウサギコウモリ(<i>Plecotus auritus sacrimontis</i>)の出産保育コロニーの構造を明らかにすることを目的とし,本州中部の4ヶ所のコロニーで最長5年間の標識再捕獲調査を行った.出産保育コロニーの構造として,齢構成,コロニーサイズとその年次変化,性比および出生コロニーへの帰還率について解析した.また,初産年齢および齢別繁殖率についても解析した.本調査地におけるニホンウサギコウモリの出産保育コロニーは,母獣と幼獣(当歳獣)による7~33個体で構成されていた.また,各コロニー間でコロニーサイズやその年次変化に違いがみられた.幼獣の性比(オス比)は,4ヶ所のコロニー全体で54.2%であり,雌雄の偏りはみられなかったが,満1歳以上の未成獣個体を含む成獣の性比は1.0%とメスに強い偏りがみられた.オスの出生コロニーへの帰還率は,全コロニーでわずか3.6%(2/56)であった.一方,メスの翌年の帰還率は,4ヶ所のコロニーでそれぞれ高い順に78.9%,63.6%,16.7%,0%であった.初産年齢は満1歳または満2歳で,すべてのコロニーを合算した帰還個体の齢別繁殖率は,満1歳で50%(12/24),満2歳で100%(13/13)であった.また,満2歳以上のメスは全て母獣であり,出産年齢に達した後は毎年出産し続けていることが確認された.<br>
